Yes, good to know that you are well and safe Ann!

My brother in Nyack had to have two sump pumps continuously running to keep his
basement from flooding, and my friend Stephen battled driving home from Cape
Cod through the thick of it.

Out here in the Uttermost West we had a mostly nice day, but then some clouds
filled the sky and a light drizzle appeared for 20 minutes. Very unusual for
this time of year … about a month early for any rain at all. Of course, on the
local news, the sky was falling! LOL!

be well! hugz,

Interesting thought. I wonder how long a 200 year old would want (or be
expected) to work or otherwise contribute to society? And how much of their
life could reasonably be allotted to the nebulous concept of retirement?

OK so here's the story...
I had a mild stroke in the middle of June.. an over night in the
emergency room at NYU LAngone and a bunch of tests before and during
the stay there.
some placque build-up in carotid artery , the one where stuff goes to
your face, not your brain... and it resulted in a speech impediment but
nothing more
serious. the slurry comes and goes.. mostly gone, but if I'm really
tired it shows up. I'm on the generic version of Plavix and Crestor
now.. and a tiny aspirin a day. My blood pressure has been steady-on
for years on a small amount of amlodipine though they saw my white coat
readings in hospital and tried to foist a double dose on me.. that
didn't happen. On a follow up visit a week after hospital adventure I
showed date and time stamped photos of the readings I had gotten at home
since out of hospital and nurse-practitioner agreed that someone who had
readings around 120/65 at my age should not be increasing Bp lowering
drugs.

I have lost 12 lbs (on purpose) since early June.. don't eat anything
that once had 4 legs, and as I love to cook it isn't difficult for me to
make tasty stuff
that is healthy. I'm doing some kind of combination of Mediterranian
and DASH I guess, my own design but it is working. I get a CT scan in Sept .
and I have to get a cardio doc but won't be doing anything about that yet.

about a week after being released from the hospital I got out on a
relative cool day for a bit but then got caught in the heat and was a
mess - heat exhaustion. .. a week later I had another outing being
more cautious, minimum amount of walking to get two chores done and earl
in am so the weather was ok.. a few steps from my doorway I took a
header .. not a balace issue - I was side stepping to avoid some kids
unloading a truck and caught my
toe on the curb.. nothing broke, but bruised left boob and ribcage,
scraped knee , and broke glass frames - that thankfully broke in jus the
right place that I was able to do a temp repair - one lens fell out but
didnt break and was recovered quickly. I frightened the teens because
my eyebrow ridge was bleeding profusely - didn't hurt at all.. one of
them brought lots of paper napkins from a deli on the corner and helped
me to my front door. Got home safely to wait for my groceries to get
delivered... I have not been out of the apartment since then (7/26) ..

I'm all but completely recovered from the fall but I will not be leaving
my apartment until the temperture is no higher than 75 f in the morning
and lowered humidity... even then I won't venture beyond one or two
blocks without getting on an air conditioned bus.

Hoping that the CT scan in September and my good diet will allow me to
drop the Plavix (clopidogrel) I guess I'll be taking statins for my
choleterol for quite a while..

I really did this to myself... eating poorly since I turned 85...being
rather cavelier (I got this far.. so..) and allowed myself too much
wicked stuff on my plate..
I weigh 132 now and am aiming for 130..

THe really good news is that I appear to be a Covid -dodger- haven't had
it at all (knock wood) and I was testing myself every day after being
in the hospital emergency room ..

anyway - here I am

RE: catching up on a hot summer day (Where's Ann been?)

2022-08-08 Thread jcoyle
Don't know how I missed this earlier, Anne - but so glad things are beginning
to get better!
Reminds me that, just before we were coming to the USA in 2016, I had a similar
fall - tripped on a kerb, fractured my right eye socket, almost degloved my
right hand and had a number of other scrapes and bruises. Did not overnight in
hospital, but had some excellent repair work done by very kind and efficient
staff, and allowed to go home. Three weeks later, I'm meeting Anne on 7th.East
for an excellent lunch!
Keep safe, Anne us oldies gotta hang around a bit longer.

I'm all but completely recovered from the fall but I will not be leaving
my apartment until the temperture is no higher than 75 f in the morning
and lowered humidity... even then I won't venture beyond one or two

Hoping that the CT scan in September and my good diet will allow me to
drop the Plavix (clopidogrel) I guess I'll be taking statins for my

Re: for Ann: Photographer Spots Curious Coincidences on New York City Sidewalks

2021-11-17 Thread ann sanfedele
These are definitely my kinda thing - I'd loved to have captured any -
even the intentional visual jokes..

However, the write of the article doesn't know the meaning of the word
"coincidence"  - these photos are all -ironic juxtaposition - also
sometimes called

"visual puns"  .. not really coincidences.

but what is coincidental is that you posted this the day after there was
an odd coincidence in my life relating to Mark C's Peso called Water
Music...

so list related in a way..

I wrote him off list , and sent him the link to one of the items I'm
selling on my creative Photo calendars site (and it is on cafepress
marketplace too)
some of you have seen it.. but the link I sent Mark was directly to the
individual listing. The item is a t-shirt with the notation of the first
bar or two of Handel's "Water Music" as a design with the quote "I go
for baroque" worked in to it.    Mark quipped back a bit later showing
he recognized what it was.

A few hours later I was checking my reports on my STORE on CPC and at
the top of the list of items sold was the very T-shirt I sent Mark the
link to.
In (gasp) a size 3xL   Naturally, I wrote to him "Coincidence or...?"
wondering if he had a large friend who liked Handel or had grown a lot
himself.

Nope- neither were true.  Now THAT is a coincidence !  All I know is
that the person who ordered it was no one I know either - one Barbara F.

Coincidence and mystery..

and likewise you posting an article titled "coincidence" just after this
happened and directing it to me.  what fun!

A hearty happy birthday from chilly Michigan. We did get a bit of sun today, so
I ventured out in the yard for a bit. Hope you had a great day!

@Ann: Not sure if the two, Redbubble or Cafepress, are connected in some
way or not. Years ago I did use Cafepress in the early days but I went
with Redbubble recently. I don't really have much right now that would
work with Spoonflower. I agree about not living off the profits but it
does provide some random infusion of coffee / snack? monies but hey who
knows we both may become extremely popular...

@Daniel: Thank you so much it is nice to receive kind words.

DAn, you are just tricking me into being more lsit active ! :-)  My
method of lurking has been to scan the subject lines - take a quick peak
at Pesos
and there are so many lovely ones! but I jsut do't feel like typing (<<
see example why)

my life is jigsaw puzzle, words with friends, social distanced trips to
get groceries - at this point at least it is easy to do in my world,
every 3 or 4 days.

I nap a lot.. welcome emails off list and hellos on facebook... where
thankfuly\ly a few of youa re there to say hi to.

one little note on that regard.. I recently changed my picture from the
lovely one JOhn COyne took of me a couple of years ago when visiting her
with me in my handmade mask to reflect the times.  when I did that, I
changed the banner photo to show I live in NY... the photo I used was one
at dusk from my roof with a glorious sky and the Empire State building
lit up.  I could tell from the responses that some of my friends
apparently felt

I took the photo recently...whereas I took it in 2013.

Toine's photo of blue sky and green slope (that I LOVE) reminded me that
the sky in the 2013 photo  was as striking as it is because of the
pollution in NY.
The most stunning sky shots - almost gaudy ones, that I've taken from
the roof over the years were caused by heavy pollution .  I can't go up
on the roof anymore.. the stairway there and the way the door opens make
it dangerous for me, though the roof itself is safe .

My lungs are grateful for the lack of particulate matter in the air, but
my eyes are bored.

ok back to my off screen life.  -
