[PHP-DEV] Bug #15418: bzdecompress returning negative numbers instead of strings
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Operating system: Linux (2.4.17 ix86) PHP version: 4.1.1 PHP Bug Type: Bzip2 Related Bug description: bzdecompress returning negative numbers instead of strings This APPEARS that it may be a re-surgence of bug#12233, which was marked closed several months ago... I am getting bzcompressed strings into a script, which is then supposed to bzdecompress them and save the bzdecompressed strings to a file. What's coming out is the same sort of thing described in bug#12233 - instead of the strings I'm getting "-7-5-5-5-5"(etc.) I also tried grabbing the current CVS. I couldn't get ./buildconf to work right, but I did try copying the current files out of CVS's ext/bz2 directory over the top of 4.1.1's released files and recompiling 4.1.1 that way, but still no fix... Example (in the following example, '$fhandle' is an fopen'ed URL which is a script that opens a file and sends it as bzcompressed strings. THIS script has been tested, and works fine - I can use wget to fetch the same data and successfully bunzip2 it from the console. $savehandle is the local file that's been fopen'ed to save the bzdecompressed data to [and which is getting the "-7-5-5-5-5" in it...]) while(!feof($fhandle)) { $data=fread($fhandle,8192); $outdata=bzdecompress($data); fwrite($savehandle,$outdata); } -- Edit bug report at http://bugs.php.net/?id=15418&edit=1 -- Fixed in CVS:http://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=15418&r=fixedcvs Fixed in release:http://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=15418&r=alreadyfixed Need backtrace: http://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=15418&r=needtrace Try newer version: http://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=15418&r=oldversion Not developer issue: http://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=15418&r=support Expected behavior: http://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=15418&r=notwrong Not enough info: http://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=15418&r=notenoughinfo -- PHP Development Mailing List <http://www.php.net/> To unsubscribe, visit: http://www.php.net/unsub.php
[PHP-DEV] Bug #15378 Updated: 3d array variables not usable in double quotes
ID: 15378 Updated by: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reported By: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Status: Bogus Bug Type: Arrays related Operating System: Linux 2.4, Apache 1.3.22 PHP Version: 4.1.1 New Comment: [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- I was aware of that syntax but there are some cases (sql querys, cookies & headers) where it is not possible to write it that way and the only solution WAS to assign it to a simpler variable. [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- Thanks. I guess that solves this problem. And this is documented where? Previous Comments: [2002-02-05 06:29:42] [EMAIL PROTECTED] This is not true. The following is perfectly valid: echo "My first name is {$var['name']['first']}!"; [2002-02-05 03:21:08] [EMAIL PROTECTED] The correct syntax is: echo "My first name is ".$var[name][first]."!"; You cannot have comples variables inside quotes. [2002-02-05 00:34:07] [EMAIL PROTECTED] I should add that the the first level of the array works fine, it is just the second (& following) levels that cannot be used. array( 'first' => 'Caleb', 'last' => 'Maclennan' ) ); echo "My first name is $var[name][first]!"; ?> Acutal Result: My first name is Array[first]! Correct Result: My first name is Caleb! This get's really nasty when useing 3 dimentional arrays to put data in SQL querys. The above example can easily be done by takeing the variable out of the quotes and useing "." to add it to the end, but there are other cases where the only solution is to do like this: -------- -- Edit this bug report at http://bugs.php.net/?id=15378&edit=1 -- PHP Development Mailing List <http://www.php.net/> To unsubscribe, visit: http://www.php.net/unsub.php

Correct Result: My first name is Caleb! This get's really nasty when useing 3 dimentional arrays to put data in SQL querys. The above example can easily be done by takeing the variable out of the quotes and useing "." to add it to the end, but there are other cases where the only solution is to do like this: -- Edit bug report at http://bugs.php.net/?id=15378&edit=1 -- Fixed in CVS:http://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=15378&r=fixedcvs Fixed in release:http://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=15378&r=alreadyfixed Need backtrace: http://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=15378&r=needtrace Try newer version: http://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=15378&r=oldversion Not developer issue: http://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=15378&r=support Expected behavior: http://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=15378&r=notwrong Not enough info: http://bugs.php.net/fix.php?id=15378&r=notenoughinfo -- PHP Development Mailing List <http://www.php.net/> To unsubscribe, visit: http://www.php.net/unsub.php

[PHP-DEV] Bug #15224 Updated: openSSL and cURL results in Apache seg-faulting
ID: 15224 Comment by: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Old Reported By: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reported By: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Status: Feedback Bug Type: OpenSSL related Operating System: Linux RH 7.1 PHP Version: 4.1.1 New Comment: Same problem ... w/ OpenSSL it goes down everytime. (version 4.1.1 goes down just if the script uses PHP authentication, 4.0.6 gets 'crazy' after some time ... really stable environment :( ) Btw, IMHO it's not Apache/SSL/glibc/libs problem ... I've tried many different configurations (various Apaches, various Unixes, various compilers, various libraries (freetype, ...), various PHP4 configs) past three days ... still having the same problem. 30 mins ago I found it works if I disable OpenSSL (EAPI). Uff ... I call this 'total waste of time'. PS: The only common things in this case are: gd 1.8.4, PHP3 + PHP4 support (--enable-versioning), all as DSO. And no, removing PHP3 won't solve the problem, I've already tried that ... guess what happened? Previous Comments: [2002-01-26 08:35:38] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Can you provide a sample script and a backtrace (see http://bugs.php.net/bugs-generating-backtrace.php)? [2002-01-25 12:53:19] [EMAIL PROTECTED] I have compiled PHP-4.1.1 with: ./configure --with-apxs --with-pgsql --enable-sockets --with-openssl --without-mysql --with-curl I have compiled cURL-7.9.3 with: ./configure and ./configure --with-ssl Otherwise, I'm using the standard RH stuff. I'm using the XML-PHP stuff (usefulinc.com) to perform XML-RPC over HTTPS. The XML-RPC requires cURL for this. I need the openssl in PHP for another application. If I perform the XML-RPC request I get: [Fri Jan 25 17:24:44 2002] [notice] child pid 11452 exit signal Segmentation fault (11) However, if I compile PHP without openSSL support, the request works fine. [PHP-DEV] Bug #14976: gzopen URLs like fopen() does
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Operating system: ANY (Linux)http://slashdot.org/u PHP version: 4.1.1 PHP Bug Type: Feature/Change Request Bug description: gzopen URLs like fopen() does One feature of PHP that I find REALLY handy is the transparent handling of 'remote' files (i.e. http:// and ftp:// URL's). Currently gzopen "doesn't quite" handle anything but local files. Attempting to gzopen, for example, an "ftp://some.host.net/pub/somefile.gz"; URL currently returns a strange error (the error itself reported as Bug#14814). I traced a gzopen("ftp://some.host.net/pub/somefile.gz";) sort of connection with ethereal, and noticed that connection to the ftp server IS made, login is performed, passive mode switched to, and the file is STARTED downloading (about 3 1k packets came across) but the script dies with a "Warning: Success in " error message. As I'm running the script from the command line as a standalone utility, I can instead do something like : wget -q ftp://some.host.net/pub/somefile.gz | php gzfilething.php > gzoutput.txt and gzopen("php://stdin") to process the text, and it does work fine, but it's a bit awkward to use and is inconsistent with fopen()'s behavior. Note that the fopen with "zlib:" URL's doesn't work for remote files, either (how would you write such a thing? fopen("zlib:ftp://some.host.net/pub/somefile.gz","r";)? I tried several variations and confirmed that zlib: automatically assumes a local filehandle. Insert following SQL query after connecting to the MSSQL database: SET TEXTSIZE 10 or to your estimated max size, which should be the same as defined in odbc_longreadlen (), if MSSQL is accessed through ODBC, which I prefer, because the PHP mssql functions don't return my german umlaute correctly. hope this helps gustav graf Previous Comments: [2001-08-01 04:44:03] [EMAIL PROTECTED] selecting a ntext type field using mssql_query produces the following error message MS SQL message: ntext data cannot be sent to clients using DB-Library (such as ISQL) or ODBC version 3.7 or earlier. [PHP-DEV] Bug #14457 Updated: Pspell ceases to work on upgrade from 4.0.6 to 4.1.0
ID: 14457 User updated by: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reported By: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Old Status: Feedback Status: Open Bug Type: Pspell related Operating System: Linux 2.4.7 (RH7.2) PHP Version: 4.1.0 New Comment: I did specify the /usr/local/pspell location in pspell's installation to see if it made any difference for 4.1.0 but it didn't. Things continued working in 4.0.6. I didn't save the procedure on installing pspell, I'm pretty sure the only parameter I passed was "./configure --prefix=/usr/local/pspell" and then made the modules. I will write back when I attempt to upgrade to 4.1.0 again. I don't know whether Aspell/Pspell merge did anything. Previous Comments: [2001-12-28 21:52:28] [EMAIL PROTECTED] ... well, in the original bug report you had: '--with-pspell=/usr/local/share' and in the new one you have '--with-pspell=/usr/local/pspell' That's very different I hope that you configured pspell with '--prefix=/usr/local/pspell', right? Otherwise you should have just specified '--with-pspell' in php configure line instead. First, how did you build pspell and aspell (what are the configure lines, versions, and in which order you built them) Second, could you go into the directory with pspell source and from there to examples, and try to compile and run an example: cd pspell/examples make example-c ./example-c en s helllo and please tell if it gives you a list of suggestions for the misspelled word 'helllo'. (I'll be in and out of the office for the next few days, so I might not respond in a timely manner) [2001-12-17 09:46:39] [EMAIL PROTECTED] './configure' '--with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql' '--with-apxs' '--enable-wddx' '--with-sablot' '--with-pspell=/usr/local/pspell' '--enable-force-cgi-redirect' '--with-gettext' '--with-ldap' '--with-cpdflib=/usr/local' '--with-jpeg-dir' '--with-tiff-dir' is the latest iteneration of my configuration. This is the exact configuration I am using in a 4.0.6 installation. Pspell does not work with the same using 4.1.0. (I re-installed pspell to that directory just to make sure) [2001-12-13 23:37:36] [EMAIL PROTECTED] It is strange it even compiled. Are you sure that pspell is installed in --with-pspell=/usr/local/share and not in --with-pspell=/usr/local ??? (e.g. do you have a directory /usr/local/include/pspell or /usr/local/share/include/pspell if the former, you probably need to recompile PHP specifying the right directory) Do you have a configure line for your 4.0.6 installation to compare against? [2001-12-12 09:09:56] [EMAIL PROTECTED] './configure' '--with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql' '--with-apxs' '--enable-wddx' '--with-sablot' '--with-pspell=/usr/local/share' '--enable-force-cgi-redirect' '--with-gettext '--with-ldap' Worked in 4.0.6 but not in 4.1.0 Warning: PSPELL couldn't open the dictionary. reason: I'm sorry I can't find any suitable word lists for the language-tag "en". $pspell_link = pspell_new ("en"); if (!pspell_check ($pspell_link, "testt")) { $suggestions = pspell_suggest ($pspell_link, "testt"); foreach ($suggestions as $suggestion) { echo "Possible spelling: $suggestion"; } } Edit this bug report at http://bugs.php.net/?id=14457&edit=1 -- PHP Development Mailing List <http://www.php.net/> To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To contact the list administrators, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[PHP-DEV] Bug #14839 Updated: getcwd() and `pwd` report incorrect directory
ID: 14839 User updated by: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reported By: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Status: Closed Bug Type: *Directory/Filesystem functions Operating System: Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris PHP Version: 4.0.5 New Comment: "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" makes it all clear. I searched all the release documentation (for all the releases since getcwd() was introduced in 1999) prior to writing this bug for any remarks about this kind of behavior, but couldn't find anything. The default behavior for Unix and DOS programs is to run in the CWD, so programmers tend to expect that of other programs, such as PHP. As "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" and "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" pointed out, this may not be the most desirable behavior for a Web script. Since it is contrary to what most programs do, I'd like to request that the documentation of the startup behavior of PHP be sure to note this behavior, and that the -C option be documented a bit more boldly -- at least listed in the release notes. Thanks. Previous Comments: [2002-01-04 05:02:27] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Closing the report. [2002-01-04 05:01:54] [EMAIL PROTECTED] There is nothing wrong with getcwd(). The problem is that php changes current working directory to the script's. This makes sense if you think of CGI scripts, but makes no sense if you write command line programs. That's way a new command line switch (-C) was introduced in PHP 4.1.0 which prevents PHP from chdir'ing into script's directory. So changing the first line of your script to #!/usr/local/bin/php -qC (and upgrading to 4.1) should fix the problem. [2002-01-04 00:47:58] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Ok, some comments, if i may. Firstly, I have verified this behaviour, however (and I could be wrong), this is not unexpected. The script executes relavtive to the directory it exists within, not the directory you are currently in. I can't particularly explain why, but this kind of makes sense. If you had a script in some unsafe directory, allowing the moving and deleting of files, and you could run it in a secured directory, in which the php process had sufficient access, and affect the files there, would that not present potential security risks? Anyhow, i could be wrong, so don't take what i said as corret. [2002-01-04 00:22:32] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Oh, I suppose you want my configure line, even though it really doesn't make a difference. Here it is: CONFIGURE_COMMAND = './configure' '--with-gd=/usr/local' '--with-mysql' '--with-openssl' '--with-apxs=/usr/local/sbin/apxs' '--prefix=/usr/local' ---- [2002-01-04 00:16:48] [EMAIL PROTECTED] This problem was previously reported by someone against PHP 4.0.6 in Bug ID # 14214. Latest comment on the that reports says they are going to close it for lack of information. This bug has existed in every version of PHP I've used since 1999. It fails on Linux, FreeBSD and Solaris. Both mistaken report the directory which contains the script being run, NOT the current working directory. This fails when run from a directory other than where the script is saved: #! /usr/local/bin/php -q Under any POSIX-compliant OS, or just about any version of Unix, calling the getcwd(3) library routine should get the correct result. After the upgrade, all MySQL connectivity was broken - none of my scripts installed could connect. MySQL was running fine (and winmysqladmin from the mysql\bin directory was able to connect fine). Restarting MySQL and IIS did not help. I was able to downgrade back to 4.0.6 (from the backup directory created during install), which immediately fixed the problem. Previous Comments: [2001-12-30 07:00:22] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Today I upgraded PHP on my WinXP system from 4.0.6 to 4.1.0 as I was finding 4.0.6 slow and thought 4.1.0 may help. [PHP-DEV] Bug #14756: pow(0,[broken power]) gives wrong result
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Operating system: Linux (Debian 2.2) PHP version: 4.1.1 PHP Bug Type: Math related Bug description: pow(0,[broken power]) gives wrong result The pow() function returns incorrect results when raising zero to a "broken power". pow(0,0.5) ("the square root of zero"), for example, returns NAN. It should return zero. This, is new since 4.0.6. Perhaps it is related to the fix for bug #14544. -- Edit bug report at: http://bugs.php.net/?id=14756&edit=1 -- PHP Development Mailing List <http://www.php.net/> To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To contact the list administrators, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Operating system: don\'t care PHP version: 4.1.1 PHP Bug Type: Documentation problem Bug description: Example is wrong http://download.php.net/manual/en/function.strftime.php This is a mistake. print (strftime ("%A, in French ")); setlocale ("LC_TIME", "fr_CA"); fr is the French language CA is a country, Canada in this case. [PHP-DEV] Bug #14698 Updated: pg_fetch_array() does not require row param
ID: 14698 User updated by: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reported By: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Status: Analyzed Bug Type: Documentation problem Operating System: Linux PHP Version: 4.1.0 Old Assigned To: yohgaki Assigned To: New Comment: Sounds good. I think it would be silly to drop this change. - It does not appear to impact existing code (patch switches based on argument count) - The reason I discovered it because I was annoyed with what I thought the existing behavior was. Good luck with the new maintainership. Previous Comments: [2001-12-26 02:26:39] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks for checking the change :) I'm the new module maintainer, so I'm asking previous module maintainers about it. Since MySQL seems it does the same, I'll keep this behavior probably, but it is not a promise yet. ;) [2001-12-26 02:19:28] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Implemented 6 months ago by jon (1.112) pgsql.c. Looks reasonable. [2001-12-26 02:13:51] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Works wonderfully without the row. That's certainly a win convienence wise, especially for folks coming over from mysql where the loop syntax is trivial (while $row = fetch()) {} I'd prefer to see the docs change then the functionality. I'll take a look at the code itself but it is hard to see how this is a performance loss, most users end up keeping a counter anyways. Why do you prefer making the row required? It seems like a silly added restriction, especially when I bet 80% of the cases where the function is called don't need it. [2001-12-26 02:09:44] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Additional comment: All pg_fetch_* works as reporter mentioned, but DO NOT take advantage of this. I may change behavior after I check php3 and php4 CVS log :) [2001-12-26 02:06:55] [EMAIL PROTECTED] I've checked current code. Reporter is right. I need to check when this has been changed and I think row should be required parameter. I'll keep this behavior if and only if this was the implemented from the beginning :) (Current code internally advance row in result structure) So DO NOT take advantage of this. [PHP-DEV] Bug #14675: ./configure line not properly reflected in phpinfo()
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Operating system: 2.4.7-10smp #1 SMP / RH 7.2 PHP version: 4.1.0 PHP Bug Type: *General Issues Bug description: ./configure line not properly reflected in phpinfo() When compiling PHP statically with Apache I've observed the following strange and very frustrating behavior. in /php ./configure OptionA in /apache ./configure --activate... make then phpinfo() reports the proper ./configure line it was compiled with. Then do something like in /php ./configure --without-mysql in /apache make (using earlier ./configure) now phpinfo() reports the old configuration line, but Mysql for example is now not present. removing config.cache between compiles in /php doesn't fix things, but a make clean does. Doesn't appear to depend on the /apache build process since make clean on the apache side changes nothing, not does a new /apache ./configure. The functionality changes properly in every case. A /php ./configure WITH mysql generates the mysql section in phpinfo(), but the phpinfo() configuration line might remain --without-mysql, even though the mysql extension is listed in the very same phpinfo. Now I'd call this so much nitpicking if I wasn't going to building php a couple of hundred times. I'd obviously like to avoid doing a make clean between each slightly changed build. Since the underlying functionality seems to change properly I'm assuming I either missed some obvious instruction, or that there is simple bug or documentation update that should happen to fix things up. -- Edit bug report at: http://bugs.php.net/?id=14675&edit=1 -- PHP Development Mailing List <http://www.php.net/> To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To contact the list administrators, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

This is the exact configuration I am using in a 4.0.6 installation. Pspell does not work with the same using 4.1.0. (I re-installed pspell to that directory just to make sure) Previous Comments: [2001-12-13 23:37:36] [EMAIL PROTECTED] It is strange it even compiled. [PHP-DEV] Bug #14537: fgetc fails to return single charachter immediatly
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Operating system: Linux 2.4.7-10smp i686 PHP version: 4.1.0 PHP Bug Type: Filesystem function related Bug description: fgetc fails to return single charachter immediatly fgetc should have at least the option of returning a single charachter immediatly upon its entry, or another function should be defined (such as getchar()) that achieves similar functionality to fgetc(stdin) which return a single charachter immediatly. The following script allows the user to type more than a single charachter and only returns when the user hits enter. fgetc should simply block until a single charachter is entered and then return. This is missing functionality that can not be worked around easily as far as I can tell. [PHP-DEV] Bug #14290 Updated: SMP PHP/apache process appears to be in infinite loop 100% CPU Utilization
ID: 14290 User updated by: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reported By: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Old Status: Feedback Status: Open Bug Type: Scripting Engine problem Operating System: RH 7.2 PHP Version: 4.0.6 New Comment: Excellent! PROBLEM IS FIXED by upgrading to 4.1.0 :)! I should have put an entry in here a day so ago, but I wanted to give it enough time to see for sure if the bug would surface. Your current release is a great Holiday gift! YEA! Thanks SO MUCH to the whole team, and Happy Holidays! Previous Comments: [2001-12-14 13:04:41] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Could you try 4.1.0, if you still have problem, could you take backtrace when you have problem? (You know how to attach running process to gdb, rihgt?) You should also seach/ask RedHat if there is fix for this. AFAIK, there are many people have this problem. It is less likely to be fixed by changing PHP code.. But batcktrace may help. [2001-11-29 15:40:50] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hello- Seems to be identical to bug #8446, which was closed, it appears, since the bug reporter did not reply after 4.0.5 was released. Using php 4.0.6 on RH 7.1 SMP. At random times (maybe once a day), a process will be found taking 99.9 %CPU. Wonder if other SMP servers are seeing the same issue... Thanks for any help. However return ''; seems to work all of the time! Looks like sess_write has to return a '' (null string) It cannot return NULL, nor it return false; Otherise sess_write will never be called! ---ends--- Previous Comments: [2001-12-14 00:19:21] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Problem solved in 4.1.0 (release). All thanks to [EMAIL PROTECTED] for pointing me to his very well written code! I found the reason my sess_write was never called with register_globals = off was because my sess_read function was something like this: sess_read( $key) ... if I find stuff for $key from PostgreSQL { return $valuesfound; } else { return false; } The problem was with "return false;" After changing: return false; to return NULL; things worked. Don't know why the "return false" worked with "register_globals=on" and "register_global=off" requires sess_read to return NULL if nothing was found... [PHP-DEV] Bug #14474: Apache PHP Module cannot seem to handle large amounts of output
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Operating system: Windows XP Pro PHP version: 4.1.0 PHP Bug Type: Apache related Bug description: Apache PHP Module cannot seem to handle large amounts of output Note: this seems to be the same problem as #14222, but I can't seem to append stuff to someone elses bug so... This is something I first noticed when I upgraded from XP RC1 to WinXP Final, when using PHP 4.0.6. I upgraded to 4.1.0 today, and it doesn't solve the problem. The php apache module doesn't seem able to handle outputting moderate to large sized pages. I have been able to reliably reproduce the problem with the following script: "; } ?> Viewing this page with internet explorer causes it to go into an almost endless loop of relaoding the page. It will display the first few 'this line is number...' and then will reload the page over and over. On some sessions IE will eventually show it's 'The page cannot be displayed' page, and sometimes it will just reload indefinitly. Viewing this page with Mozilla/Netscape doesn't have the same effect. Mozilla doesn't go through the reload loop, but will not show the page as it should either. There will be unexplained (no errors) jumps in numbers/missing output such as: This is line number 2368 This is line number 2369This is line number 2517 This is line number 2518 But the errors in output don't occur in the same spot each time. And evenutally (well short of 1,000,000 lines) the output will just stop with no error, often in mid line. I have found that adding 'flush();' just after the 'print "This is line...' seems to fix the problem. -- Edit bug report at: http://bugs.php.net/?id=14474&edit=1 -- PHP Development Mailing List <http://www.php.net/> To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To contact the list administrators, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[PHP-DEV] Bug #14396: open_basedir check in nested include does not allow subdirs
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Operating system: linux / redhat 7.1 PHP version: 4.0.6 PHP Bug Type: PHP options/info functions Bug description: open_basedir check in nested include does not allow subdirs with enabled safe-mode and open_basedir restriction it is not possible to execute a include/require/... function in a included file that tries to include a file that is in a subdirectory of the initially executed script. WORKAROUND: Placing all included files into the same directory works fine, but is quite a bunch of work and not always suitable when adapting supplied software and scripts, e.g. running phpNuke in this environement. example: in documentroot: file test.php: in the subdir test: 1.php: 2.php: foo_2 3.php: foo_3 error: Warning: open_basedir restriction in effect. File is in wrong directory in /home/sites/x/www/test/1.php on line 1 Apache's httpd.conf sets this param: php_admin_value open_basedir /home/sites/x open_basedir is tested and working fine, except those nested includes. thanks for checking mk -- Edit bug report at: http://bugs.php.net/?id=14396&edit=1 -- PHP Development Mailing List <http://www.php.net/> To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To contact the list administrators, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[PHP-DEV] Bug #14305 Updated: type-o on web site
ID: 14305 User updated by: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reported By: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Status: Closed Bug Type: Documentation problem Operating System: Win2k PHP Version: 4.1.0 New Comment: I appologize if I did not express myself in a way that was understood as I meant it. I was just annoyed that I spent the time to post the problem and someone changed the status to "bogus" and said it is fine as it is. Using Latin in English poetry may be fine, but in an English tutorial/instruction manual it is not. If Sander's native tongue is not English (as Torben implied) there was no need for Sander to make that post refering to the issue as "bogus." You have defended the efforts of Sander, but not of I. I am not staff of PHP. I don't get any credit for helping PHP; Sanders apparently does (judging by the php.com email address.) I think you have overlooked that I was contributing my time without anything asked in return except the improvement of an excellent web application (and accomodating documentation.) In response to Torben's remark in the first sentance, I was not attacking the person, rather the response. Again, I appologize for my miscommunication, I did not express myself as I meant for it to be taken. Torben, I also beleive in Karma, so we should both remember that when you point a finger at someone, the other 4 fingers on your hand are pointing at yourself. Previous Comments: [2001-12-06 19:49:26] [EMAIL PROTECTED] To the original submitter: While help is very much appreciated, I'm quite certain that few people like to be attacked for the work which they do in their spare time for little or no hope of direct personal gain. If you do, however, intend to attack someone, it helps to get your information right. To wit: 'in concreto' is, in fact, perfectly acceptable English when used as a loan phrase from Latin. A small amount of research would have cleared this up for you. However, my intent is not to respond to the actual bug report; rather, the bit that upset me was the arrogant and unfounded attack on Sander. In an Open Source project such as PHP, there is a high probability that any given member of the team is not, in fact, a native English speaker. Deriding someone for this is not only pointless, but ridiculous--the fact that we have so many authors with other native tongues is the only thing which allows us to provide the manual in so many different languages. It is a strength, not a weakness. Finally, when you're going to attack someone based on their use of the English language, especially if you intend to insult them for having no writing skills, please ensure that: o you spell 'typo' correctly, o you spell 'sentence' correctly, o you learn that 'what-so-ever' is not a word, but 'whatsoever' is, and o your own sentences are not rife with grammatical mistakes (v. the original bug report). Yes, I do realize that by pointing out your mistakes I have guaranteed that my own message will contain some. That's karma for you. :) [2001-12-06 15:20:22] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reworded this entity in language-snippets.ent a bit (it affects all such warnings). Mainly corruption like what was linked to in http://tugs.imp.ch/index.html.2 but sometimes like this: http://tugs.imp.ch/index.html.3 And then yesterday I upgraded to Windows XP, and initially I was getting corruption in parts of a large PHP page. I rebooted, and started getting (for the first time) the symptom where the page would just keep reloading and reloading and reloading. I have a testcase now which causes the problem most of the time on IE6 and IE5.5 - continual reloading - since the page of this testcase is made up of HTML comments, I can see various numbers of the point at which HTML loading failed before restarting - e.g. \n"); } print "Finished\n"; ?> On Mozilla (recent nightly build), it behaves differently - the page cuts off at a random point (you can see this by doing View Source), but does not continually reload. The Problem ist, that I have to know, if there is data on the pipe or not. feof does not help. On the other side, the PHP-function popen should be extended for read AND write on Linux. I haven't kept a track of upgrades, although I believe libc6 hasn't been changed since long before Apache was compiled. It also caused segfaults and other random wierdness in Apache. The listed libc6 package (in previous report) isn't a current one on any Debian flavour. potato: 2.1.3-19 woody: 2.2.4-5 If that sheds any light on the subject. Previous Comments: [2001-11-23 06:05:36] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Nice, closing this one. [2001-11-23 05:56:18] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Recompiled 4.1.0RC3 using Apache 1.3.22. Yes, mathematics now works correctly. Haven't tested fully yet, but the first glance looks like it works. [2001-11-20 22:35:38] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Perhaps a problem with the Debian libraries, cannot confirm problem on PHP 4.0.6 under Solaris 2.8. Output of the code is correct in that machine and PHP version. Code also tested by _RainMkr_ (from #php) using PHP 4.0.6 under Linux 2.4.5 Need feedback on whether other numeric programs have similar problems under that version of Debian.
