Don't re-invent the wheel? http://www.mnogosearch.org/ can be restricted by
filetype; I'd imagine that others such as htdig would be similarly
configurable.

This should help:
http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.tempnam.php

It does return the name of the temp file created (or FALSE), which could
be parsed to get the temp directory as PHP best sees fit.

Re: [PHP] Pages Expiring

2006-01-05 Thread Gustav Wiberg

Hi there!

Yes, actually there is a "dirty" solution to this.

You can use javascript to skip certain pages in historylist.
window.document.replace('page1.php');
window.document.location = 'page2.php';
window.document.location.replace('page3.php');

The only page that would exist in the history list is now page2.php (and
this means if you hit the back button, the only page that will display in
this case would be page2.php) In your case you could goto the page with form
with a window.document.location.replace('formpage.php')  - statement..

Hope this was helpful! :-)

Just my local workstation.

Yes, the database -- in MySQL -- lives on a different server.

> 3. do you need reporting/information about the local machine
> inspection anywhere other than the local machine?

No, I only need it locally. At least, for right now.

> 4. will there be more than one local machine?

No. The only place the data will originate FROM will be my local
machine. The data are simply directory entries of PDF or CHM files.

> 5. why do you want to do this?

For starters, I'm trying to cull out duplicates. Some are easily found
by comparing file sizes and then looking at the file names. But, some of
the files are damaged, so I need to actually open the files to ensure they
open without error before deciding which ones to delete. It seemed to me
that it would be easier to open the files from a web browser than from
another, scratch-built application.

The larger question though, is, "Why use PHP for this?" Because I'm
trying to learn more about how to use PHP, and because, once the data have
been combed through and duplicates have been culled, I'd like to make the
data available to a few friends who would like to see the list of files that
I've amassed (currently around 12,600, with approximately 3000 known
duplicates). Those able to view the data would not be able to update the
data at all -- the form to do the update would have been password protected.

What I think I'll do now is create the update routines locally, then
export the data, upload the data to the server, and import it into a copy of
the database. Yeah, it means more work on my part, but that's okay. The
updates after I finally get the initial data clean will be somewhat
infrequent.

Thanks again for your input and suggestions.

Sincerely,

Jon

Re: [PHP] Set variable outside of scope (redo)

2006-01-05 Thread Aaron Koning
Generally, scope is fairly loose in PHP. If $row is set by
mysql_fetch_array(...) it should carry throughout your script as it is,
unless modified. Try commenting out non-relavant pieces of the code and
var_dump(...)ing the $row variable at the start and throughout the script.

This should be $row['range'], not $row[range], although it doesn't
make a difference unless you define a constant named range.

Your problem isn't actually scope, it's that your PHP script is being
called twice. Once to show the form, once to submit it. The second
time, your script doesn't have any of the things you set the first
time.

If you put that in your delete form, you could use $_POST['id'] to get
the proper id.

Is there a way to set a variable so that it goes outside the scope?

You have a lot of detail for folks to analyze just to give you an answer.

If I get the gist of your question, here is the genesis of an approach.

Put something like this in your loop that generates the table rows. The checkbox can be anywhere in the row that looks
good.

echo "";
$i++;

Then when you process your $_POST, you'll see all the $_POST[rowx] {"x" is the
row number} that were checked by the user.

[PHP] XML Session serializer announcement and call for testers

2006-01-05 Thread Mark
One of the problems I have had with the PHP session system is that it does
not use a readily usable text format for serializing data. This makes using
session data outside of PHP virtually impossible.

I looked at the WDDX extension and was not too impressed: it was way too
verbose and didn't use variable names as task. It used the data type as a
tag and the variable name as a tag attribute.

XMLDBX uses the variable name as a tag as long as the variable name is valid
within an XML tag. It uses attributes to declare the variable type and meta
information. XMLDBX also tries to conserve space in its format by using
single tag elements, i.e. "" instead of
"100." Both are parsable by expat.

The intent of XMLDBX is to use a documented serialize format within a
database like PostgreSQL and use functions to extract specific elements.
For instance:

select XMLDBX_Extract(pgcolumn, 'varname') from pgtable;
or
select XMLDBX_Extract(pgcolumn, 'class.subclass.varname') from pgtable;

Anyone interested?

The extension is at www.mohawksoft.org under "CVS Access"

What do you mean by "out of the scope of where the variable is

$row[id] is data in the database (which it should be) it is not a
scope

date("d H i", strtotime('now -2 hours') );
But here's the catch, how should I deal with day light savings ( DST)

You can use date( 'I' ) to determine whether or not your server is
currently in DST and subtract the appropriate number of hours
accordingly...

Because it is more of a cache, I envision using it to cache PHP objects
independent of sessions. Think of how you'd implement a poll site. MCache
is designed to handle concurrency and provide some limited atomic numeric

This is not really intended for a single server site, but could provide
some benefit as a way of abstracting file or SQL session storage.

RE: [PHP] set variable to go outside scope

What do you mean by "out of the scope of where the variable is set"? If the
$row[id] is data in the database (which it should be) it is not a scope
issue at all.

[PHP] set variable to go outside scope

2006-01-05 Thread Mike Tuller
I have a table listing items in a database, and have a delete button
next to each item, and I want to be able to click on the delete and
delete only that record in the database and then reload the page
where it would display the updated information. Here is part of the
code I have.

echo "";

echo "

		\"addrange\">

Add Range: $row[id]
	\" />
	value=\"Add Range\" />

";

}
elseif (isset($_POST['deleteRange']))
{

$query = "delete from district.ip_range where id = $row[id]";

mysql_query($query, $link) or die (mysql_error());

echo "Record ".$row[id]." has beed deleted.";

}

They key I am using to find the record I want to delete is the the
$row[id], but that is out of the scope of where the variable is set.
Is there a way to set a variable so that it goes outside the scope?

I hate doing this, but you could use Javascript to use the date and time set
on the clients computer. You can't control how they have it set though.

[PHP] complex arrays

2006-01-05 Thread Sjef Janssen
Hallo there,
I try to put a number of variables in an array as follows:
input boxes gather info. This info is language dependent, so the info is put
into an array vke with indexes NL and EN. The POST variable gives this array
back. Then I want to add a variable to this array, 'gebruikt' (=used) with
possible values J or N.

The script looks something like so:

'J',$_POST['vke']);
 foreach ($waarden as $i=>$w)
 {
  if (is_array($w))
  {
   foreach($w as $iw=>$ww)
   {
if (is_array($iw))
{
//What happening here???
}
else
{
 echo stripslashes($iw) . ": " . stripslashes($ww) . "";
}
   }
  }
  else
  {
   echo stripslashes($i) . ": " . stripslashes($w) . "";
  }
 }
}

print ("Test\n");
print ("\n");
print ("\n");
print ("\n");
print ("\n");
print ("\n");
?>

I have problems reading the contents of the arrays. Especially reading the
second array seems impossible.
After all this I want to add the contents of the array to a Session variable
to keep it in furthwer steps (of a wizard).

I hope any of you can 'make chocolat' of this ;-))
Thanks!!
Sjef

p.s. I use php 4.

[PHP] php_admin_* directives in a phpSuExec environment

2006-01-05 Thread Santi Saez

Hello,

Is there anyway to prevent users from modifying limits imposed by
php.ini configuration in a phpSuExec configured PHP installation??

For example in server with PHP running in a module, I use php_admin_*
directives:

php_admin_value memory_limit 40M

And users can't modify them from .htacess (php_value memory_limit
40M) or in a script: ini_set("memory_limit","40M").

This doesnt work in a phpSuExec enviroment.. I can modify those
limits with a php.ini file or with a script :-(

Is there anyway to prevent this?? Thanks

I have been giving this problem some more thought and I think I have an
answer for you. My previous response was pretty invasive if you don't have
full control or knowledge of the web session code.

Assuming you index by some session ID, and that ID can be shared across
sites.

You make a graphical bug or link.

On both servers you create a PHP file that accepts a URL parameter, sets a
cookie, and displays an image. Something like:

>>> mylogo.php

Now in BOTH websites, render an image on your page as:

site 1:
http://www.site2.org/mylogo.php?phpsession=hddfewfelkfjewlkewflkjlkweweio";>

site 2:
http://www.site1.org/mylogo.php?phpsession=hddfewfelkfjewlkewflkjlkweweio";>

This way, you pass the cookie to both sites.

Why not simply save the session ID in the first site in your DB or a temp file. Then have the second site query for it
via ftp or for a file fopen.

Shafiq Rehman wrote:

My Sat TV provider uses something like what you want to allow me to navigate
through their website and the websites of different channels without having
to login on each website.

Basically how I think they do it:
- They have a database with the subscriber information which is shared by
all the sites.

- When you login, a popup window open (if popups are disabled it happens in
your main window) which jumps from domain to domain and set the cookie with
your session id.

- When you logout the database does no longer contain the session id. The
cookie is still set but the site checks the validity of the session id and
if it is not valid anymore then you have to login again.

So basically:

After login you set the session cookie then open a page on the other domain
passing the session id to it with GET / POST. That page sets the cookie for
that domain and sends the user on in the process.

When you logout you can then unset the cookie on the domain and open a page
on the other domain to unset the cookie or simply invalidate the session id
in a database. If you do this you need to check if the session id is still
valid when you open a page.

The actual session data should then be in a database (or similar) accessible
by both domains.

Hope it helps

Albert

Evil Haxors face this problem everyday - sovling it involves using security
vulnerabilities in browsers (and possibly servers); technically what you ask
is not possible - the whole point of cookies is that they are only available
to the issuing domain; there is no concept of trusted domains with HTTP.

having said that if you allow it to work via something in the URL (e.g. GET
param) then it's doable (chap named Mark gave you an answer to this affect).

I just had thought for a completely different way of doing it:

it requires 3 domains:

1. domain1.com
2. domain2.com
3. domain3.com

domain1.com unconditionally/always redirects to domain1.domain3.com
domain2.com unconditionally/always redirects to domain2.domain3.com

*.domain3.com is where every really happens.

all logs/sessions occur under the domain3.com domain - and sharing
cookies between subdomains IS allowed :-)

hope you understand what I mean.

I don't know exactly what you are looking for, but if you have control over
the URLs of both domain 1 and 2, you can use the session ID as a URL
parameter and do something like this:

$sid = $_GET['phpsessionid'];

if(!$sid)
 # check cookie and continue as normal
else
 # use $sid as your session ID

Re: [PHP] Newbie question: need to transfer directory contents from my local machine to my website

Hi all:

Thanks to those who replied to my earlier question. I understand now
that what I really need to do is to set up a local server and MySQL for my
project, as PHP seems rife with ways to query the local server's folder
structure.

I am assuming that you are only interested in inspecting your own local machine
and that your interested in reading/viewing the results from a publically
accessible webserver (maybe pwd protected).

in such a case you need only install the CLI version of php (with the mysql or
mysqli exntesions) and setup your public webserver to allow connections to
your mysql database from certain remote locations (i.e. your local PC).
i.e. you can use a simple distributed model for you application - although
if it is only for your own consumption them installing everything on your local
machine is probably your best bet.

with regard to installing a php-enabled webserver on your windows machine there
are quite alot of packages that install and configure everything for you.
I last used WAMP and found it to be satisfactory.

I had attempted to search for ways to accomplish said task from a remote
server but failed to find anything addressing that issue, which is why I
turned here. My apologies. I shall endeavor to have a more list-worthy
question the next time.

your original question was a little unclear - I asked you some questions
in return (which you didn't asnwer) in the hope that it might become clear
exactly what it is that you wish to do.

Hi! Thanks for link, visiting now. :)

I might suggest that you first google for 'how to write a search
engine'; then do a lot of reading;

Have done... a ton of hits for website search tools... but I have yet
to filter the results down to WWW search engine scripts/tutorials...

So far I have had only a few possible options: Google API and/or
Microformat tags.

then curse yourself for having undertaken such a difficult task;

Lol! Yep. I realized that after I posted my question to the list. Hehe!
Man, I wish I were a better programmer!

then try to formulate the criteria/limitations/requirements of yourt
search engine as preciesly as possible ...

Great advice, I really appreciate the tip. :)

and when you have a definite idea about what you want to achieve come
back by all means and ask questions - you never we might even be able
to help (assuming php is the technology tyou choose to implement your
search engine

in)!

And that I will... but I think that I will leave my idea for a later
date... if/when I ever get good enough to write such a program, or when
I discover a script that will allow me to implement my "file-specific
search engine"

ps - creating something decent that resembles a search engine is not
easy IMHO.

good luck

I hear that. Man, I hate my limitations. Oh well, back to watching
season 2 of the Sopranos! ;)

Thanks for the response...

I think I might have a good idea for a specific type of search engine.
Basically it would crawl web and index links to a specific type of
file... really simple. Obviously making the results searchable is a must.

Not sure where to start though.

Hello!

I packed PHP 4.4.2RC2 today, which you can find here:
http://downloads.php.net/derick/

Please test it carefully, and report any bugs in the bug system, but
only if you have a short reproducable test case. Please do not commit
any changes to the PHP_4_4 tree until PHP 4.4.2 is released, unless it's
a critical bugs. Please confer with me first then.

If everything goes well, we can release it somewhere at the end of next
week.
