a semi-colan means it commented out ! ! ! !

Even I remove (;) semi colon from it, and restart my pc, but still

 Hi,

The GD librarry is included in a DLL on Win32. You need to load the
library from php.ini with extension=php_gd2.dll or from the script
 with
 dl(php_gd2.dll);

You can check the output from phpinfo(); to see if the GD has been
 loaded.

but then, all this is to generate a graph

n i dont know what u are actually at there

if u'r tryin it for graphs ill be able to help u out :)

u know the works .

the problem is

each file passes to the grapgh file the data fetched and the title of
the graph

unless i re-fresh the page the graph displayed last keeps appearing
and re-appearing
with the old title n old data u know .
caching the old one .. :S

i stumbled upon clearstatcache()

I don't think this has anything to do with register globals (Sorry
 toby).
Undefined index sounds like php is just warning you that you are
 using a
variable without a value. Since you are using a form to send data,
 this can
occur. To be honest, its a fairly pointless warning, so you
 probably want to
ignore it. In your php.ini file search for and find the
 error_reporting
option. I recommend you change your settings to
 error_reporting  =  E_ALL  ~E_NOTICE
 This should solve your problem.

Undefined index sounds like php is just warning you that you
 are
   using a
variable without a value. Since you are using a form to send
 data,
   this can
occur. To be honest, its a fairly pointless warning, so you
   probably want to
ignore it. In your php.ini file search for and find the
   error_reporting
option. I recommend you change your settings to
   error_reporting  =  E_ALL  ~E_NOTICE
   This should solve your problem.

 If you write

 $tireqty = $_POST['tireqty']

you're telling PHP that the calling script is sending a variable
 called
 'tireqty'.
Since on your case the name of the value and of the POST are the
 same, I
 mean that if you write

 $AFTER_POST = $_POST['VALUE_PASSED']

you will set a variable called $AFTER_POST to the value given by
 the calling
form through the field named 'VALUE_PASSED'
Otherwise, you trying to get the value of a POST that never was.

Check the names of the fields on the form, and as someone said, use
 'isset'
to see if something actually went trough

Sorry to be so thorough, but it's just to be as clear as I can

[PHP-WIN] query infinitely stuck ......

2003-05-28 Thread toby z
hay guyz

im stuck in an infinite loop
ill try to explain what im actually tryin to do

im letting a user of the application take a backup of a mysql db
he selects a path n types in a file name for the backup to be dumped
as

two files
1. tk_bkp.php(take_backup)
2. gen_qry_bkp.php(generate_backup_query)

take backup file:
gets the dir path and file name
includes 2 files 1st to generate the insert into query 2nd to write a
file on user's disk

generate backup query file :

1. fetchs all table names from a table tbl_ztbl
(i dont want it to fetch all table namez as ive got 17 lookup tables
in the db)
2. after it has fetched the table names it calls the ReedDta() funct
passing it the table names fetched
3. ReedDta() funct :
i. fetches all the data inserted in the tables where nu_bkp=0
(the watch-dgo field for new || backup data; 0==new)
ii. fetches all the field names from the table names fetched in
#1
iii. make an insert into query

problem:
a. the ReedDta() funct gets stuck in the query #i
where it has to fetch the data inserted into the db tables :|
   the query goes nuttz ..
or perhapps i ve screwed somethin else in the code :|

b. the data fetched from the tables include a primary key
auto-incrementor
the backup is to be restored on the server where the application will
be hosted and i most definately dont want the backup-auto-incremented
values to get inserted in to the server db as im generating reports
on distinct primarykeys
what the hell do i do now ?
:| :S

i guess i ve done it for myslf to get sacked after this proj is
through :)

the code goes here

===
tk_bkp.php
=

$bkp_fl = $_GET['bkp_fl'];

You have different -id- and -name- identifers in the Select tag.
 These
should match. Use one or the other. Both should be qlf_opt or both
 should
 be rq_qlf

That way your script knows which one to use as the POST variable -
 else it
might decide neither is appropriate :-)

 Hiya,

Im running php4.2.3 on Win98 and apache 2.0.43.
I am having troubles passing variables from page to page.
 I try to use:

 session_start();
 session_register(test);

when echo $test on a different page it seems to be empty
when not called from within the page originally created.

I have session_start() on every page at the start just under the
 php syntax
? and also register the variables which I want global.

I have edited the php.ini to set the session.save_path =
 C:/windows/temp
and also have global variables set on

Any suggestions to what it may be as it doesnt seem to produce any
 errors.

 Thanks

--- RT [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Sorry. I missed the original
message but if I understand it right
you want to send multiple selections from a select box to PHP.
If you add [] after the name it will create an array with the data
 that's sent to the server
 ie
 select name=foo[]
 option value=1selection 1/option
 etc
 /select

The variable $foo[0] or $_POST['foo'] would have the first value
 selected and so on.
 Hope it helps

A lot of problems appear when I run a script copied from the

One of them is the function :clean: that doesn't exist, according
 with the
 php compiler:

   session_start();

   $authenticated = false;

// Clean the data collected from the user
   $appUsername =
 clean($HTTP_POST_VARS[formUsername], 10);
   $appPassword =
 clean($HTTP_POST_VARS[formPassword], 15);

Can someone tell me what is the prob? Where can I get information
 for this
 kind of script?

 Thanks.

jim

with my vry little experteez what i do is
$password= time();
store this password into db
and mail it out to the member
all in the same file :)

what this does is not only a unique password for all my members its
also pretty difficult to apprehend . let alone anythin else

hope this helps

*if you are using GRANT then you don't need to use PASSWORD()

 function to
 encrypt the password.

see the actual password stored in database and compare it with
 encrypted
 user password [
 PASSWORD('userpasssword')], both should match.

 hope that helps!

Subject: script not allowing login after generating new password

Hi, I'm new in this list and to PHP and MySQL. I'd welcome any help
 you
 can give.

I'm working on a simple application where a registered user submits
 a
forgot my password form. The script is supposed to generate a
 random
new password, write it to the database, and send it to the user.
 Then
they can log in with the new password and they're off and running.

Here's what happens now: The password generator works fine - it
 creates
a random string any length I want. The password field in the
 database
gets changed - not to the new random string but apparently to an
encrypted version of it via the MySQL password() function. The
 script
returns the user a notice of the new password. BUT, login with the
 new
 password fails!

I'm reluctant to ask you to do my debugging but I'm almost brain
 dead
after hours of trying to figure this out. Can someone suggest where
 I
might look for the problem? I'll include my scripts in a reply if
 needed.

 Thanks very much in advance.

 Jim

Well, PHP license is GPL, however, the graphical elements from the
website are copyrighted to the PHP Group.

 This is described here: http://www.php.net/copyright.php

But, I think you should ask [EMAIL PROTECTED] describing how you
 want to
use the PHP logo and see whether this can be allowed.

I am cc'ing this to the PHP webteam, they should give you the right

Either MySQL or PostgreSQL are good database alternatives. I'm
 more of a
hardcore database person so I prefer PostgreSQL because of it's
 support for
transactions. I've also found the SQL grammar in PostgreSQL to be
 a little
more standard. Another option would be the Firebird project
 (http://firebird.sourceforge.net/). It was originally the
 Interbase product
 from Borland.

Coming from FoxPro, either database is going to be a nice step up
 in the
world. The main thing to keep in mind is that you'll have to pay a
 bit more
attention to some of the standard database things like
 normalization and
 referential integrity.

 My question is this.

How do I access the mysql database from a web page

I would also like to allow a user to update his/her

change their own password on occasion if they would

  Using $entry_date = date('l, d F Y

back Tuesday, 19 January 2038 04:14:07 with ever
 entry. $sql['date']
 is
a TIMESTAMP and looks like this 20021006141256 in
 the datebase. It
should give me Sunday, 06 October 2002 14:12:56..?
 Wierd eh? Do u know
 a
  solution?

No, not weird. MySQL uses a timestamp in the
 MMDDHHMMSS format.
Date() is expecting a UNIX timestamp, which is the
 number of seconds
 since Jan 1, 1970.

So... you can either use DATE_FORMAT() in your
 query, with is the MySQL
equivalent of date(). Look up the format in the
 manual. Or, you can use
UNIX_TIMESTAMP() in your query to select out the
 unix timestamp instead
of the mysql timestamp, and then use that value
 within date() in your
 PHP script.

news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]...

Question 1 I'm not too sure about...

  Question 2:

How do you mean spell check it? There are
 several levels
  of depth you

  could

take this to. You could just check the format
 of it (ie
  [EMAIL PROTECTED]) using a pattern
 matching technique
  ereg(

   ^[^@

]+@([a-zA-Z0-9\-]+\.)+([a-zA-Z0-9\-]{2}|net|com|gov|mil|org|edu|int)$

,$email) is a rather simple one.

This only checks that it's a valid format of
 email address
  however. It
  doesn't stop php emailing
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
  (going out on

   a

limb and assuming this doesn't exist!)

There are ways of taking this further however.
 You can
  explode $email

   by

the @ character and checking that the domain
 actually
  exists by simply
pinging it or connecting to the relevant smtp
 server. This again,

   doesn't

  stop php from emailing
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
  (again, probably
doesn't exist but the format is ok and the TLD
 exists).
  The next step

   you

could take (and this is getting a bit involved
 here...
  depends how much

  time

you've got on your hands) is to talk to the
 smtp server
  and attempt to

  find

out whether the user exists or not. I believe
 that it is
  possible to

   get

  an

smtp server to confirm or deny a users
 existance.

Like I say, these are varying levels of
 checking, I have
  to say I've

   only

ever went so far as to resolving the TLD
 through a DNS server.

A solution you may wish to consider, is only
 allowing trusted email
addresses to be used. One way I have done this
 in the
  past is to allow

   a

user to register an email address, and then
 email a random
  cipher to

   this

address and make the user enter the cipher into
 a validation page,

   thereby

validating the email address a genuine and held
 by the user.

I'd be glad to help if you've got any questions
 about the
  solutions I've
  given. :)

  Ross
