Last usage stats I've found are from 2010 and they don't even mention 
anything less than 4.3 (I guess because they were 0% even back then):

Last mention of PHP 4.2 and less is from 2008:

I'm not talking about undocumenting PHP 4.3, just PHP  4.3.


Who told you no one uses those versions anymore?
Based on what information are you making that statement?

It's still very much possible that companies with outdated hardware or
software still rely on old versions (don't get me wrong, I'd love to be
rid of PHP 4.3, but I don't think we can just yet).

There are already another extensions not available via php.net 
documented in the PHP Manual (sqlsrv and pdo_sqlsrv). So I didn't know 
that it is a requirement. I'm sorry for the guerilla approach but I 
really didn't suppose that it will be a problem.


Suhosin is still very relevant today because it is a part of PHP package 
in some Linux distributions. And people are asking questions like:


Why can't I redeclare sha256() if there is no such function documented 
on php.net and I use the default PHP package?


Why can't I increase memory_limit in my script?

Why can't I process forms with more than 200 fields?

I believe that there should be at least something in the PHP Manual to 
help people finding answers for such questions.

Its not an extension available via php.net in any way what so ever.
And not even maintained, or even relevant today.

I love your work, and we joke about you on IRC (#php.doc) every once
in a while when someone/you makes 30+ bugfixes/commits in a row.. but
I completely disagree with this specific commit.

[PHP-DOC] Underscores in xml:id

Are underscores (_) currently allowed in IDs? It was denied for years
and all underscores had to be replaced by dashes (-) but now I've
found _ in several IDs.

I've looked at the nowdoc - it seems to me it saves only a couple of
backslashes. Is this new format really necessary? Think also about the
editors - my editor highlights heredoc well but nowdoc of course not.
If the patch will be accepted, the editor will catch up shortly but
every older version (and more conservative editors) will highlight the
code wrongly.

I use Livedocs because it let me build just one file which is great
for manual authors. Is this possible also with PhD?
