Problems using a great program

2003-12-23 Thread Willi Richert
Hi all and thanks for plucker!

2 Problems:

1) After putting the newsfeed channels to my Palm, which works great, plucker
does not respond any more (Ctrl-C).
2) When retrieving the channels, I have to move my mouse inside the plucker
window so that the progress is shown (sic!). Crazy bug!

Versions:
plucker-desktop-1.6.0.0-1
plucker-1.6.1-1

Here a sample output:

Program Exception in viewer

2002-09-22 Thread Edward Rayl

I just got my first exception ever in the viewer today. It requires a
soft reset and is very repeatable. Only one page in the 600k pdb
appears to do this. If anyone is interested in taking a look at it,
I'll email it along with instructions on how to reproduce exception.

I'm interested in taking a closer look at it, but I don't want to
receive a 600k Plucker document by mail ;-) If you, as David pointed
out, could file a bug report that would be the best solution.

It makes it easier to track any changes and in the future I will
probably make it a requirement for the viewer maintenance, i.e. no
changes to a stable version of the viewer (or beta version) will be
allowed unless they are connected to a bug report/feature request
at bugs.plkr.org.

I've never used bugs.plkr.org until now. I just filed it with a 77k
file. That is as small as I could make it.

What am I doing wrong here? The identify program exists in the same location
as the convert.exe program. Convert.exe seems to work. I tried
re-downloading Image Magick (the precompiled binaries for Win2k -
ImageMagick-win2k.zip), but I am still having the same problem. I looked in
the plucker.ini for any settings for identify, but didn't find any.

If there's any more info I could give to help answer this question, I'd be
glad to give it.

Thanks,

Re: This Program....

2001-08-23 Thread MJ Ray

I'm sorry, but is this meant to be a request for help or a general
rant? It's very hard to read. If you have specific problems
understanding the documentation for the Windows plucker, I'm sure that
someone who knows will help.

Plucker is still under heavy development and not ready for world
domination yet, I'm afraid. If you send useful help (eg specific
questions) or money or hardware to the developers, it will improve
faster. That's the way these things work. It's an end to
spoon-feeding and the start of a partnership.

Re: This Program....

2001-08-23 Thread Bill Nalen/Towers Perrin

The file you are looking at under edit using the notepad is an html file.
Either you will need to learn some html (not very hard, but the syntax is
very specific) or use a product like Frontpage to edit this file. When you
choose the hotsync option it will use this page to fetch your web pages
from the internet, convert them, and send them to a special directory from
which they get installed on your Palm at the next hotsync. I agree there's
a lot of stuff that should be hidden from users, but it's still a
development effort. Perhaps you could list the things that you'd rather
not see so we can work on them?

The html file you edit needs to contain the pages you want to see (actually
links to them). They should be of the form:

pa href=http://www.slashdot.org/palm/; maxdepth=4
stayonhostSlashdot/a/p

Where the link is inside the href= stuff. That's the link on your
address bar when you are browsing the web. The Slashdot near the end is
what you will see on the Palm. maxdepth just means only go this deep (4
links) from the page you link to. Generally this should be 2 or 3. The
higher the number, the more pages will be captured. Plucker will follow
all the links it sees on the initial page to a maximum of this number.
stayonhost means when a link would take you off the site
(http://www.slashdot.org/ in my example), don't follow it. This way you
tend to avoid ads and things like that.

I would start with a simple link first. You can cut copy my link above
and make changes to it. You can delete everything else in the html page
that comes up when you select edit on the menu. It's just a default page.
Add a line similar to mine above for each page you want to capture (or each
site really). Set the maxdepth at 2 for now and see how it comes out on
the Palm.

Feel free to email the group with further questions.

Bill

First of all this whole program seems to be written for some rocket
scientist or something! How in gods name am I suppose to work this program!
There's so much junk that you have to do. I have Windows ME that mean that
I
am suppose to download the version for windows. You also have a new
installer release 1.1.11SR1 now you have 1.1.12. I used the first one and
there is no way in hell I can understand all those symbols and letters.
When
I go into plucker from startup and open edit db and setup, I get a notepad
full of mumbo jumbo. What is this. please tell me. All I wanted was to get
a
program that takes files from off the web and transfer it into my handheld.
But this program is not simple. Not everyone can use it. Even the
instructions are hard because half the terms I have no idea what they mean
(ex.) maxdepth, parsar, python, html, href=, anchor, I have no clue what
this stuff means nor where to find them. I don't even know if I have all
the
necessary tools and programs. What do I need besides the installer for
windows? Do I need python, I see it in the startup with the plucker program
but its just the website and all about python. For some reason though
when
I hotsynced my handheld, my handheld has the plucker home page on it. It
wasn't there before. This is cool even though I have no idea how it got
there. The only bad thing

As much as I hate to admit it, you're probably much better off using
AvantGo. Go to http://www.avantgo.com and have fun - they've got lots of
channels and a nice, simple interface.

This is the development list, please take this to plucker-list, not
the development list. Keep the noise and spam/flames out of this list,
please.

Yes, provided you don't do something that would break the GPL.

I would be distributing the reader freely

You *have to* release it under GPL, make the source code with your
modifications available for everyone that has got the binary (unless
you include the source code with the binary). Don't forget to include
a copy of the GPL (that is also a requirement when you distribute a
binary version of the app).

I also request that you change the creator ID when you change the
name of the app.

If that is okay, how much credit must I give.

You will have to do your own homework and figure out what you have
to do to live up to the GPL.

The only clue I will give you is that we still have the copyright
to the program. That will not change just because you change the
name of the app.

I have a question. Can I change the program and call it something
different for my school such as MYSchool Doc Reader?

As long as you don't submit it as your homework and say you wrote it
as a homework assignment for your C.S. class, that'd be fine.

If this is not possible, would it be possible to change the programs
name and say it was BASED on The Plucker etc etc.

As long as you give credit to the authors of the pieces you use, you
would be within the limit of the law so-to-speak. Removing any copyright
notices (i.e. in the source code headers, etc.) is not allowed, so those
must remain.

A Question About Editing Your Program

2001-08-15 Thread Joshua O

I have a question. Can I change the program and call it something different
for my school such as MYSchool Doc Reader?

I would be distributing the reader freely and if I charged for anything it
would be for the school information downloaded into the reader...NOT the
reader itself.

If this is not possible, would it be possible to change the programs name
and say it was BASED on The Plucker etc etc.

If that is okay, how much credit must I give. Thank you for reading this.
