Ah, thanks. I had actually tried that and it wasn't working, but
knowing that it should have been working led me to track down the
actual bug.

It's all working perfectly now.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: [Announce] Lazy Search Music v2.2.2 released

2006-10-03 Thread diomark

Thanks for this.. one main commnent though -

would love to see an option to play the entire cd that i'm on instead
of just what matches the keyword..

i.e. let's say I search for an artist - and it shows me the list of
cd's that that artist appears in.. some of those cd's can be
compilation cd's (in my case electronic music)

would love the option of playing the entire cd (or perhaps from that
search point on that cd..)
Possible?

1.
Which TrackStat version are running ?
You will need at least 1.28.2 if you are running 6.5.1 of slimserver,
1.28.1 works with 6.5.0 but not with 6.5.1.

2.
Is the TrackStat menu availabe under Plugins or is that missing too ?
If its missing TrackStat is probably not started, for some reason. In
that case startup slimserver manually with "slimserver.pl --d_plugins
--d_startup" and post the log here or mail it to me.

3.
Could you enable debugging in the TrackStat settings page in the web
interface and restart slimserver and post the log ?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - works but starts to "stutter"

2006-10-03 Thread MarthaF

I was excited to learn about AlienBBC which I installed easily, and has
worked effortlessly from the start. However, I have noticed that after
several minutes, much of the streaming from the various BBC stations
begins to stutter, making it difficult to hear and enjoy the stream. I
have new wireless setup, and checked the signal strength, etc. But my
other radio favorites, including SqueezeNetwork, work flawlessly with
excellent audio. Since I am a newbie, perhaps there is something I have
overlooked? I am using a Squeezebox 3 (my second unit!) with up to date
SlimServer software and firmware on the SB3 itself. Has anyone else
encountered this problem? Thanks!

Thanks bpa,

I've just been looking for more info on my Via C3 chip. One interesting
point I see mentioned frequently is that it is "almost" an i686, but
seems to lack one important instruction (cmov). This certainly seems to
be a potential cause of problems.

Mind you, I'd have thought me compiling mplayer for i386 should have
removed that problem area.

Fair enough. But that notwithstanding ... shouldn't MusicMagic be

If the screen saver is activated when I clear the playlist the messages
starts immediately, if not they will start as soon as the playlist is
activated next time. If I restart slimserver directly after this it
will restart and then as soon as the playlist is activated the error
messages starts again.

I am using the official 6.5.0 release and I am clearing the playlist by
clicking on the Clear link in the playlist window in the web interface.

I downloaded the nightly from last night (SlimServer Version: 6.5.1 -

hoping to benefit from the accented character fix.

However, I now don't have ANY mixable tracks in my library, whereas
before I had something like 99% of my library mixable. (With the
exception of thise files with accented characters).

I just completed a scan with d_plugins enabled, and I didn't see any
output at all that seemed pertinent to MusicMagic.

Any suggestions?

interpreting it correctly. Anyway, if I understands it correctly it
would load default mappings from the Default.map file which only
contains a [common] section but no [playlist] section.

It also looks like addModeDefaultMapping would exit when someone calls
it with an existing mode. But its only called from the PluginManager so
I suspect that slimserver is never calling it for the Favorites. The
favourites logic is probably that it will use the [common] definition
unless someone overrides it by calling addModeDefaultMapping with the
specific mode. This might be the cause that TrackStat actually succeeds
since it is calling addModeDefaultMapping with mode set to "playlist"
and there is not [playlist] in Default.map.

I can reproduce the problem by:
1. Clear the current playlist from the web interface
2. Restart slimserver (isn't actually needed, but I did it to make sure
it wasn't caused by anything else)
3. Wait for the screen saver to activate
The result is that after step 3 I get a uninitialized message every
second.

MusicInfoSCR is set as screensaver while not playing?

I downloaded the newest version a few minutes ago and the problem is
repeatable in that version.

Same line?

Theoretically there's a check whether the playlist is empty or not. But I
guess in some modes that check doesn't work.

I can reproduce the problem by:
1. Clear the current playlist from the web interface
2. Restart slimserver (isn't actually needed, but I did it to make sure
it wasn't caused by anything else)
3. Wait for the screen saver to activate
The result is that after step 3 I get a uninitialized message every
second.

If I after this starts playing a song the problem dissapears and then
if I pause the song it still works correctly, but if I clear the
playlist again the error message is logged again every second.

I downloaded the newest version a few minutes ago and the problem is
repeatable in that version. I guess this is 2.99.3, the Plugin.pm
history info says 3.00 though. I have also tried to remove the
whitelist in case that caused the problem but it does not seem to make
any difference, the problem is still there with not whitelist entires.

Not since Favourites stopped being a plugin... Give it a try!

(addModeDefaultMapping only works for the *first* caller to try and

Since Favourites is core code now, it always gets called before plugins
do...)

I had the same issue in iTunesUpdate so...

This is the relevant code from the plugin

Code:

  '2.hold' => 'saveRating_2',

  '1' => 'dead',
  '2' => 'dead',
  '3' => 'dead',
  '4' => 'dead',
  '5' => 'dead'
  );

  # And in initPlugin I have this
  Slim::Hardware::IR::addModeDefaultMapping('playlist',\%mapping);
  my $functref = Slim::Buttons::Playlist::getFunctions();
  $functref->{'saveRating'} = \&saveRatingsForCurrentlyPlaying;

Isn't this supposed to work in 6.5.0 ?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: iTunesupdate on Tiger(Intel)

2006-10-03 Thread govardha

Hello Dabloss,

I did not have to do the perl.ppc anymore. I had to do that setup in
the past in my brother's Intel CoreDuo iMac as he had transferred
settings/apps/docs from his old iMac G4. Hence, the issue with
disparity of architecture etc and the ensuing issues and my hack to
resolve the problem.

In my new machine, it was a stock setup, so I had to go through the
usual setup stuff of the perl CPAN libraries and some other unix
utilities(make, wget, ncftp etc..). Here's the procedure that I went
through. Please follow the sequence outlined below. I hope you are
reasonably adept at navigating around in the Unix terminal.

- Install the Developer tools that comes in your Install DVD's. This
installs gcc/make etc.
- Further go to the following web site(Macports)
http://www.macports.org/ where you can download the latest source for
Mac ports from the repository.

There is a README which gives you instructions on how you need to
compile the port binary. I find DarwinPorts a lot easier to install
the unix tools compared to Fink. I used to use Fink extensively in the
past, but this time over I tried DarwinPorts and it worked like a charm.

- Once you are done with the DarwinPorts install, install wget, ncftp &
lynx.
- Now follow the instructions in the iTunesupdate readme to install the
CPAN AppleScript::Glue package etc. The first time you run CPAN, it
will ask you a bunch of questions and I usually go with the defaults
and it worked well for me.
- After the pre requisite CPAN package installs are done, just put the
iTunesupdate SlimServer plugin in its appropriate plugin location,
restart SlimServer and expect to see iTunesupdate working.

I have been using 1.8.0 without any issues with both iTunes 7 & 7.0.1.
It works like a charm, James has done a fantastic job with this plugin.
It makes my SB experience so much better.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Lazy Search Music v2.2.2 released

2006-10-03 Thread hickinbottoms

I’m pleased to announce v2.2.2 of the Lazy Search Music plugin for
SlimServer 6.5.x and 7.0. This has no major changes, but quite a few
minor enhancements and bugfixes.

Brief details of the changes are as follows:

- It should now be possible to search for accented characters with
lazy search as they are treated as though they are unaccented (eg
“Björk” can be searched for as “BJORK”). Thanks to Kim B. Heino for
reporting it and testing the fix.
- Finnish translation added (thanks very much to Kim B. Heino for the
patch). This also corrected a couple of English and Danish string
  errors.
- Punctuation is now removed from the lazified version so you can
search for “IVE” when the title was “I’ve” etc.
- You can now enter keyword searches involving ‘0′ or space
characters as well as multiple keywords. A short press of ‘0′
will enter a ‘0′ into the search text (just like any other
number), but a long press will enter a ‘,’ to separate different
keywords). Thanks Dieter for the suggestion and the testing.
- A new preference and behavior has been added to control whether
ALBUMARTISTs are returned in keyword search results. This is useful
if you tag compilations with an ALBUMARTIST of “Various Artists”
because it’s the individual track’s artists you’re interested in.
Thanks to Dieter for testing it.
- The user’s choice of whether COMPOSER, CONDUCTOR and BAND are
considered artists is now honoured for normal lazy searches and
keyword searches. Thanks to Richard Harnwell for testing.
- Fixed a problem where duplicate results would be returned from
keyword searches when there were multiple contributors set the same.
- Keyword search results will now display song titles formatted in
the usual way (so they’ll include the track number, for example).
- New options have been added to the SEARCH button behaviour
preference (on ’server settings->plugins’), so that the user can also
choose to make it enter a specific search category rather than the
category menu. With this he can, for example, press SEARCH and
immediately start entering a keyword search. Thanks to Kim B. Heino
  for the suggestion and testing.
- The plugin will now automatically re-lazify the database contents
if the plugin version is changed. This means you should no longer
have to go through a lengthy clear-and-rescan just because you’ve
  upgraded the plugin.
- Added Mac OS X installation instructions (thanks to Zack Shapiro
  for providing them).

Note that the plugin has now been enhanced to rebuild the lazy search
indexing in the database if the plugin version has changed. This means
you won’t have to perform a tedious clear-and-rescan when you upgrade
to this or any newer version of the plugin.

As always, pile on in and pick it up from here:

So did you manage to setup itunesupdate on your new intel imac? i heard
the 1.8.0 of itunesupdate works fine with itunes 7.0.1. It still doesn't
work for me...
Is it necessary to instal the perl.ppc stuff?
Can i have the 1.8.0 version put in the existing plugin directory or do
i need to have it instal through the the "hidden" PreferencePane
directories?
I'm so unfamiliar with the dash/terminal/whatever...
Thanks a lot for your help.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: Alien BBC 1.06 and Slimserver 6.5 broken

2006-10-03 Thread bpa

You are the only example of a Linux system with this fault - I was
hoping it was a second to give a better insight.

The setting are very similar to my SuSe system so I think the main
difference is the CPU. The problem also showed up on a user with
Normal windows setting but on a satellite link with long transmission
time - I wonder whether the lower power CPU produces the same effects -
an extra delay in getting responses back to source.

The problem is easily reproducible on Windows systems and within 3 mins
- however Windows is not a great environment to debug this sort of
problem.

Erlend,
(unless you've done something special) rating won't work in 6.5+
now-playing mode any more because the 'favourites' are no longer a
plugin and will steal the key mappings before any plugin gets a chance.

Users will have to use a custom ir map to get back this functionality.

The owner and group of mplayer.sh is already slimserver and the
permissions as you said. These are OK if the they remain the same and
if the slimserver is being run as a daemon by the slimserver userid.

What can happen is that the user installing AlienBBC is not slimserver
or root - the owner / group will change to that of the user installing
the files.
