[SlimDevices: Plugins] Help with Custom Browse

2009-09-07 Thread prefab

I am running Squeezebox 7.4.28420 on winXP with
Multi Library 2.4pre2 / Custom Scan 2.7pre3 / Custom Browse 2.9pre3

I have created a "Classical" library with Multi Library in "My Music".
I also created a "Composers" menu of type Composers with Custom menu.

An example of the menu tree is My Music / Classical / Composers / Bach,
Johann Sebastian: this shows Bach albums.
In the Web Interface this menu panel has a header with "Mixes:",
"Name:", "Duration:", "File Size:" and "Album:" and a list of albums
under "All Songs".

Can someone explain how to modify the header information (suppress
"Name:" and "Album:").
I have read the wiki but I am at a loss on what needs to be done.
Thanks

cheers

[SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicIP/ SpiceFly for WHS running 7.4 - your help needed

2009-09-07 Thread Chunkywizard

Hi there,

I am trying to get MusicIP working on my WHS but am getting confused by
conflicting and old information. When I get this working I intend to
publish a small up to date guide about how to do this so other people
don't have to go through the pain I am currently enduring. The
information seems to be out there but it's not all in one place and
quite a lot of the forum posts are now out of date. I am mainly using
the information at spicefly.com but even that is a little out of date. I
have looked at the wiki (also out of date), and also the forum (mostly
out of date!).

So far I have got MusicIP running headless on my WHS (spicefly.com is
very good in this respect). I am now at the point of adding in the
integration with SBS and I have 2 questions:

Do I need to run the MusicIP plug-in as well as the Spicefly plugin?
(Most of the forum post seem to pre-date the built in plug-in)

How do I fix the startup order of MusicIP and SBS? (Spicefly.com says
'For the Latest version of Squeezecenter 7.x you do not need this reg
file as it can be configured from the Squeezecenter menu items, See the
Squeezecenter Startup options menu item on the Start Menu'. However in
7.4 I can not see what is being referred to here)

Any help would be appreciated. When I have this running I will try and
summerize all the steps needed.

Cheers

CW

Not too early to ask: It will work.
It's not "now Squeezecenter", the touch does run a SC instance, albeit

Thanks for that, interesting reading. Unfortunately it does back up my
message that information is not in the right place and is incomplete!
This article says the solution to getting MusicIP and SBS to boot in the
right order is to do it manually. I would prefer an automated solution.
I could try the registry hack on spicefly.com but I am not sure if it is
up to date or not, can anyone advise? Also the article talks about the
MusicIP plugin, not spicefly so I am still unsure of the difference
between them. Again, if someone can clarify that would be great.

You have to do it as described by spicefly (create a dependancy). This is
still true in 7.3+.

I did it only about a week ago. The instructions aren't fully up to date.
The service now is called "squeezesvc", no longer "slimsvc". So instead of
providing a reg file (which many malware scanners will block anyway)
better give clear instructions on how to do this.

update the wiki, eg.

That's stupid: while the service GUI offers a page to show the
dependencies, there's imho no way to configure them in there. Your best
bet is to use sc.exe, as eg. described here:

Nothing's ever easy! (Especially if you are in over your head ;D)

So I opened a DOS box and typed:
sc config squeezesvc depend= MusicMagicServer

and I got back
[SC] ChangeServiceConfig SUCCESS

so I think it has worked, however I don't know how to check it. If I
get up properties of the Squeezebox server in Services no dependencies
show. One thing that puzzled me is the SBS executable is SqueezeSvr.exe
yet the service is called squeezesvc, why is that? When I try and
restart SBS I get the message "Error 1075: The dependency service does
not exist or has been marked for deletion". I reckon I have got the
service name for MusicIP wrong, but how do I find it out?

Thanks

Well, maybe this information could be useful:

This is how I seee it at a high level. The difference between MusicIP
and SugarCube is that with MusicIP one can "manually" create an
intelligent playlist with a predetermined number of tracks based on a
"single" seed (track). While SugarCuge (when enabled) "automatically"
creates an endless playlist where the next track is selected by MusicIP
based on currently playing track. In essence the resulting playlists
from SugarCube are based on "multiple" seeds. The mood of a playlist
generated using MusicIP will closely follow the mood of the seed track
while the mood of a SugarCube playlist will eventually diverge from the
mood of the seed track. Looks like apples and oranges, but SugarCube is
"dependent" on the intelligence of the MusicIP engine to select the next
track to the playlist.

Here is some more info that might help:

There are to methods to "validate" one's library using MusicIP. One is
with embedded MusicIP tags that hold the validation info and the other
is by using a reference file (default.m3lib) which holds an index of
tracks with their corresponding MusicIP validation info. Because MusicIP
is/was in Beta I choose to use the index file method. If I decide to
change the location of my music library I have to reflect that change in
the default.m3lib file for MusicIP to continue to work. I still don't
know if adding the MusicIP tags to my library might affect the way it
works with SC or other media players/servers.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] SlimNAS Internet Radio Issues

2009-09-07 Thread mr nick

I have been running SC on Windows Server 2003 for years now with no
issues but I've decided to get rid of the server box and replace it with
a FreeNAS unit instead.

I have installed FreeNAS 0.69 and SC7.3.3 and the music streaming side
of things works without a hitch but I can't fathom out how to get the
radio working. When I look at my SC homepage on the FreeNAS box I see a
very different list of options:

If I use the 'Tune In' option, I get timeout errors all the time. I
have also noticed that if I try and use the extension downloader then
the list comes up blank so I'm guessing there is some sort of issue with
the internet link but when I use the FreeNAS ping tool it will happily
ping Google etc so it looks like it's OK.

I'm hoping it's just me being exceptionally numb and missing something
blindingly simple - is anyone able to shed some light on these issues?

Correct, though the standard MusicIP plugin works in the same method
just that it "talks" to the "engine" once to gather a heap of tracks in
one go.

SugarCube works independently and doesnt require the MusicIP plugin
enabled within Squeezecenter with its double scanning overhead. etc
(Though much improved in later versions) As you say Apples and
Oranges.. you can use SugarCube in place of the standard MusicIP plugin,
I certainly dont use it any more but then I'm biased I guess ;)

It "talks" to the "engine" via the port http://localhost:10002/ or
whatever has been configured via MusicIP headless or the MusicIP GUI
frontend and does so at each track change, so it explores your library
without being saddled to a static playlist.

Cheers

The IP was initially set by DHCP and the DNS server etc appeared to be
correctly picked up. The fact I can ping external IP addresses from the
FreeNAS box would appear to back this up but just in case I altered the
settings from DHCP to manual and put in everything by hand but I still
got the same results. This is why I thought I must be missing something

This can occur if SC starts before the network is fully available. Also
make sure you update to 7.3.4 which contains a workaround.

Hi MeSue,

This sounds like the MusicIP and Squeezecenter databases are not in
sync, ie. SugarCube uses the seed track from Squeezecenter and MusicIP
returns the response that its got no record of the song. I should add
some fallback code but I've not got around to it yet!

Cheers

Erm, Not that it really matters but I've just read this a bit more
closely and it's not quite right...
If a 'cycle' is one mark and one space then in 21 cycles we will get 21
marks (and 21 spaces), not 10. It appears that your detector (or maybe
the software) is halving the number of cycles received before outputting
them, or maybe the numbers mean something completely different? Your
argument is still valid though as it's the relative size of the
pule-space combination that was the problem.

As an aside, I know that the Pronto learned codes are in this format
(number of cycles rather than time) and that it does report the 'true'
number of cycles (eg RC5 is 36000Hz for 889us = 32 cycles, Pronto
reports this correctly as 0x0020). I suspect that your setup would show
0x10???

Works fine here with new tracks.

The only problem i have is that sugarcube still has problems with
'special' characters. (ä,ö,ü,)

In accordance to the changelog it should work, but it does not. I had
to rename all songs. :-(

I think the issue with extended/"special" characters... bug 13429
https://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=13429 is currently being
worked on.

I hope having this fixed today. But as Spicefly doesn't use the plugin,

Well, maybe I'm missing something obvious... but what's clear to me is
that when MusicIP selects the next track to add to the SugarCube
playlist it "works" fine as long as there are no extended characters in
the path/filename of the track it selected. In other words, if the next
track that MusicIP selects has no extended characters in its
path/filename SugarCube continues to work without any issues. A chicken
and egg kind of thing.

I'd say it was fixed and reintroduced in 7.4... MusicIP and SugarCube
work fine with extended characters in the paths/filenames on 7.4 builds
prior to the SQLite switch. The last build on which everything was
working fine was SC 7.4 MySQL build 26558.

Looking at the 7.4 change log it looks like in revision 28457 Michael
made a change that "appears" to address this issue. I guess I'll have to
wait until for tomorrow's SC 7.4 Windows build to test.

I would just make a correction that you are not restricted to a single
track for the seed. Your MIP mixes can be based on a single track, an
album, an artist, a playlist, or multiple tracks. It's just that in most
Squeezebox interfaces, it's difficult to "select" multiple tracks unless
they are in a playlist.

I like the rest of your description. Sugarcube tends to meander a lot
more that a regular MIP mix, which is the main difference to me. Often I
don't like the direction it gets going in and I have to start it off
clean again, but setting up filters in MIP helps with that.

Chunkywizard: You may already have this covered, but if you write
anything up, you should make a note about disabling the Bonjour service
on WHS before running the MusicIP installer. That tripped me up until I
found the solution via Google. Now that the MIP forums are gone, it
might not be as easy to find the solution.

Also, I never did anything special, and I have never had a problem with
the startup order of MusicIP and Squeezebox Server.

You may want to make a suggestion in your write-up to run analysis on a
machine other that your WHS machine. I found that even going over the
network, it was TONS faster to do analysis on one of my client machines
instead of my HP MediaSmart. It also kept it from bogging down the
server for the several days it was going to take to do analysis. By
running it on my client PC, it was done overnight. I also do all new
music analysis on a client machine over the network, archiving analysis,
and then just add the songs via headless GUI.

Guess that's all I can think of to add...

I also agree with Michael, but there some interaction between MusicIP
and SugarCube which result in SugarCube failures. See posts # 14 and #

Thanks for clarifying... I should had said "single seed" (track, album,
artist and playlist)

I sometimes don't like the direction either, but I find the paths that
it uncovers very interesting. I enable SugarCube and walk away... If I
don't like where is going I select a "new seed" (track, album, artist
and playlist)... and walk away again.

Thanks for all the input, I now know a lot more than before. However I

I reread the wiki and I really don't know enough to update it, I'm
skimming the surface. What I might do (if I ever get it working) is do a
bluffers guide ie, a short key-points guide. I can also point to areas
of the wiki that are wrong, but it will not be a complete update as I
don't understand a lot of it!
