There is a setting in the Custom Scan settings page where you select
which tags that should be available as title format, have you selected
the tag there ?

Look in Custom Browse settings page in the section "Manage menus" or
"Enabled menus". Those sections allows you do delete or hide any menus.
I think some of these settings might require a SBS or SqueezePlay
restart to take effect but I'm not completely sure.

There is also no reason to believe that MiP's underlying technology has
been abandoned or in fact that the MusicDNS servers will be
decommisisoned. The co's underlying techologies have been relaunched
under the banner of 'Amplified Music Services'
(http://www.amplifiedmusicservices.com/) and if one looks at their
business model, it is in fact to their advantage to keep the servers
running because it adds to their underlying database of analysed tracks
and accompanying metdata (which I believe they still source though
Musicbrainz). Whilst their focus is now solely B2B (read what the hell
are you waiting for Logitech?) and MiP is no longer developed/
supported, the API is actively developed and available for integration
in solutions like SBS - this is their underlying business model. What
worries me is if people like Michael aren't aware of this, then what
hope do we have of a corporate bigwig paying any attention and realising
the merits of what's being asked for here.

This is my understanding, too. In ripping a couple of albums today
(Christmas day in Oz) I found that the MIP servers are still up and the
analysis was very quick.

I have always embedded the analysis, and apart from some problems with
a few Apple Lossless tracks and an early beta of MIP some time ago, I
have never had a problem with the tags that MIP adds to tracks. My
library is almost completely FLAC now.

One of the SB Server systems I built for a friend runs on a local
network that is not connected to the Internet and MIP works perfectly,
analyzes new CDs and make mixes without seeing the MIP server.

Agree with you here, as I have said in other posts over the years, MIP
is the icing on the Squeezebox cake.

There seems to be a problem with some players and I have not figured
out why yet. I am currently doing some debugging here. If you don't mind
losing the audio settings menus you can try version 1.5 which seems to
work fine. Not sure why there is a difference.

First of all, great plugin.

I've got it to work on my denon AVR-3310. The only thing it does not do
is when i use my squeezebox classic remote to raise the volume, nothing

When i play a song, it automaticly start my denon and switches to quick

I do have to note that i have my install running on a qnap 809 pro nas.
But that should not really be a problem i presume. I did see some debug
related things in earlier posts, can i turn something like that on to
see what it is doing to check whats happening?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Squeezeplay + Airfoil + Airport Express?

2009-12-24 Thread dugbee

Hi all,

I'm currently running Squeezeboxserver 7.4 as a plugin on my WHS box.
Since there's no real audio output on that machine, I'm using
SqueezePlay on a different machine, as the audio renderer.

The Squeezeplay machine sends audio to a couple of rooms, using a USB
sound card with both optical and coax outputs.

I'd like to add more rooms, but running wires isn't feasible. Would it
be possible to run Airfoil (http://www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/windows/)
on the Squeezeplay box, and that way the audio going to the USB sound
card would also go to the Airport Express?

Oh, and I'm using iPeng from an iPhone as the controller. I *think*
what I've illustrated is possible, but want to make sure before taking
the plunge with an Airport Express.

Thanks!

Dugbee

Quoting an old response, but in my case, with SC7.1 I need to have the
Stereo Mix volume almost all the way down, the gain is huge and anything
else results in massive distortion.
I run digital out from SB3 to my dac.

If you arrange your albums in folders (that is: one folder per album)
and you add an image as a "folder.jpg" file in that folder, Squeezebox
Server will use that image as album art for all files in that folder
that don't have their own artwork embedded.
The big advantage is that it saves space compared to adding the image
to each and every track.

I've fixed the PRONTO protocol by saying that if blocks[3]=0 then use
blocks[4] to get the code. The newest version (0.2) is available from
the link in the first post of this thread.

I have also made a small change to the way the hotkey works. Holding
it brings up the settings whereas pressing it enters the active

I probably never wrote it in this thread.
_I_ always try to get artwork as big as possible.
The server will scale it down so you don't have to care about sizes
except when the artwork is too small.
iPeng can use up to 480x480.

Please don't use .BMP and _I_ would not put the artwork into the tags
but add a "folder.jpg" for each folder.

No, this is only for the plugin, not for the App. I always planned (and
somewhow still do) to do something like CoverFlow but there are still

I'm building a new server using Ubuntu 9.10 and Squeezecenter 7.4.2 and
I've encountered a couple of things that I cannot solve:

On my old system (7.3.2) I had a title format of

ARTIST - TITLE - ALBUM (CUSTOMSCAN_CUSTOMTAG_SINGLE)

using Custom Scan and my own 'single' tags.

On my new system this just displays (CUSTOMSCAN_CUSTOMTAG_SINGLE) as
text after the album name.

Is this not supported in 7.4.x or have I forgotten a setting I need to
adjust?

Also is there anyway to NOT display the Custom Browse versions of the
Album, Artist, Genre & Year menus?
I just want to use my own custom menus for use with Custom Scan and
Track Stat alongside the built-in menus.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Installing SqueezeboxServer on Sheevaplug by a Linux newbie: success

2009-12-24 Thread kesey

I'm about to embark on the voyage (hopefully short and sweet) to getting
Squeezeboxserver 7.4.2 working on the Sheevaplug. This will be connected
to a router which delivers wired and wireless networking to my home.
I've bought, after speaking with New It, the Multi-Boot Sheeva - Debian
- Lenny 4Gb SD with an Additional SD card - Integral Ultima 4G class 6
with Debian Lenny. I'll keep a list of Sheevaplug, SqueezeboxServer and
other resources on this post, which I will update as I find my way
around, for easy access.

I've been using the Squeezebox Classic for a number of years now. I
also have a Duet and a Boom. I store my music on a desktop internal hard
drive, but also keep copies on a number of USB-powered external drives.
I've used mostly Windows variants (all flavours from 3.1 up to Windows 7
Pro 64 bit) up until now. I installed Ubuntu 8.04 and 9.04 on an old
desktop and got Slimserver and later Squeezeserver running on that. The
desktop was too blooming noisy so I did not do too much work on it, but
I took the opportunity to play with Ubuntu a bit. I'm very much a Linux
newbie as of December 2009 and have installed Ubuntu 9.04 on a laptop to
dual boot with XP Pro SP3.

I would note that as a newbie, I've found it impossible to get
Squeezeboxserver (7.4.1. or 7.4.2) on Ubuntu 9.10 to talk to my USB
hard-drive, so I've reverted to Ubuntu 9.04 on which I've installed
Squeezeboxserver 7.4.2. Ubuntu 9.04 shows my USB hard drive in /media/

Firstly, I want to thank New It for the marvellous service on delivery.
I ordered on Friday afternoon Dec 18th, and the Sheevaplug was delivered
to my home in Ireland on Tuesday Dec 22nd. That kind of service is as
good as it gets.

Regarding SqueezeboxServer, I use 7.4.2 and update regularly to the new
nightly. These are obtainable here:
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/7.4/
You can get 7.5 (the "unstable" i.e. development version) here:
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/7.5/
7.4.2 is nominally the "testing" version, but is in fact very stable in
both Windows and .deb flavours.

Installation:

1: Set up the serial USB connection as per
http://plugcomputer.org/plugwiki/index.php/How-to_setup_PuTTY_for_the_SheevaPlug_on_Windows

As I was using a desktop with Windows 7, this entailed, for me,
installing the WindowsTeraTermUSBDriver from the SheevaPlug Development
Kit CD (for USB Port A, USB Port B and USP Port .i.e. 3 times). PuTTY
then worked fine.

2: Connect your ethernet cable from your router to your Sheevaplug.

3: Open PuTTY. Log into Debian using the Username and Password in your
documentation

4: Apt-get update

I tried apt-get install on the latest nightly 7.4.2 and it did not work
for me, so next step was to try wget instead:

5: wget
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/7.4/sc/29673/squeezeboxserver_7.4.2~29673_all.deb

dpkg -i squeezeboxserver_7.4.2~29673_all.deb
apt-get -f install

6: Use the web browser, on the computer you are running PuTTY from, to
go to ShevaPlug_ip_address:9000 (for me 192.168.15.102:9000)

7: You should now be in the Squeezebox Server web-page.

USB HARD-drive

Note: I tried this with an NTFS drive on SheevaPlug Debian, and it said
" mount: unknown filesystem type 'ntfs' "

courtesy of:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/mandriva-30/mount-an-external-ntfs-usb-hard-disk-201441/

"Plug the USB Hard-drive in and then open a terminal and enter the
command dmesg . Look for something like:

usb 1-5: new high speed USB device using address 2
scsi2 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
Vendor: IC25N020 Model: ATCS04-0 Rev: CA2O
Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
SCSI device sda: 39070080 512-byte hdwr sectors (20004 MB)
sda: assuming drive cache: write through
sda: sda1
Attached scsi disk sda at scsi2, channel 0, id 0, lun 0
USB Mass Storage device found at 2
The details will be different but the important bit is the line
sda: sda1
Dmesg has seen an sda disk and it is calling it sda1. So if I open a
terminal and become root I can
mount /dev/sda1 /some/empty/folder."

I formatted a Lacie 250Gig drive to Fat 32, copied my music to it...:

I have two sources for the Pronto IR format:
http://www.hifi-remote.com/infrared/prontoirformats.pdf
http://www.remotecentral.com/features/irdisp2.htm

The second states

Code:

Either one of the burst pair sequences is optional so we will actually have
three different patterns of IR encoding.
  Preamble BurstSeq1 BurstSeq2
  Preamble BurstSeq1
  Preamble BurstSeq2

So it looks as if his code is valid (beeing the third variation with
only the second 'repeat' burst sequence).
