[SlimDevices: Plugins] How to get correctly rendered links in AlbumReview plugins
It seems like I'm not able to install the AlbumReview-plugin correctly. When I look into different Reviews I always get 'corrupt' links, i.e. they have a starting a tag but never an end. I'd expect that those tags should be removed. Of course I read the instructions on Micheals page (http://www.herger.net/slim/detail.php?nr=473). This is what I tried so far: - First I thought I didn't need to do anything. I'm using the Debian distribution and found a file /usr/share/squeezeboxserver/CPAN/HTML/FormatText.pm - Then I thought: do it the linux way: just install it: # perl -MCPAN -e shell cpan install HTML::FormatText [loads of text, loads of answering 'yes'] cpan exit # reboot - downloading micheals file, copying it to the (empty) directy: /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/Plugins - copying it to /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins (where I can also see a folder Album Review. For the Biography plugin, which is similar, Michael also says that HTML::Parse has to be installed besides HTML::FormatText, maybe that's it ? I think the MHCPAN.zip module on Michael's page only are for Windows, so if you are using Linux you should probably not use that, instead you should install the modules the normal way (apt-get/dpkg or with the CPAN installation tool you describe) -- erland Erland Isaksson ('My homepage' (http://erland.isaksson.info)) (Developer of 'many plugins/applets' (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/User:Erland). A poll associated with this post was created, to vote and see the results, please visit http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79524 Question: Are you interested in IR-over-IP? - Yes, I'd like to have IRoIP. - No, I don't care. Thanks *so* much for your help, Indifference, and your applet - I've got my system working. All the commands I've tested operate, but as the remote controls additional devices I don't have, I can't test everything. It's academic now, but I'm still interested in how you translated the LIRC codes into those for SqueezeIR. Having been playing around with this for some time now, trying to make it work, I've made a number of observations that would have made things a bit easier for the way I've been through the process. These may only apply to me, I might have misunderstood or there may be good reasons for the way things are that I haven't considered, so please take them for what they're worth: The sample XML file has a comment with some keycode constants in it. If these were defined in the config file, rather than just reported, users could add other combinations. It doesn't seem that uncommon to have one remote with more than one device ID - my remotes section would have been simpler and easier to refer to later on (i.e. only a single name) if commands could have been grouped within a device ID, rather than having a device ID assigned to the whole remote or individual commands only. For example, what about having a command_group tag with device and /or sub_device (did I see this somewhere?) attributes to be used as necessary? Would it be possible to make the return code from processing a file more prominent (I'm wondering about a coloured border around the menus - all of them, not just settings - when the result is anything other than 3, if that's at all practical to do)? In my case I saw no error message and the sound effect was playing when I tried to generate a command even though no commands had been correctly assigned to any menu items. It was almost by chance that I saw a forum post about this, looked in the About section and saw the Warn return code. Would there be a suitable way to combine the profiles and menus sections of the XML file? I'm sure many people would like to list all the available commands in the menu and then simply assign some to key presses. At the moment, there is duplication for these two methods of activating the same set of actions. item menu=false or a similar construct could remove entries from the menu if the user did not want them appearing there and items are then all defined in a single place. The order attribute on item and action can be hard to deal with, for obvious reasons: they each need to be generated (or at least edited) individually (no copy and paste) and reordering or inserting commands in a menu or actions list means renumbering all later entries. I was under the impression that pretty much all XML processors maintained element order (even though it's not mandatory in the spec). Is this attribute necessary for the Jive XML processor? The XML can get quite complicated. Is it necessary to have some / all of the extra levels the plural elements introduce (keys, events, parameters, actions, etc.)? It seems to me the XML would be easier to examine and write correctly if each action, for example, was a direct child of event. Also, I managed to put the applet into an infinite loop by trying to chain several commands together (I was wondering if other codes might be understood by the amp, even if the remote didn't have buttons for them). I chained about twenty commands together with a 400ms pause like this: Code: item order=21 captionTest 81-99/caption events event ID=press modifieronce/modifier actions action order=1 remoteRC-877_AMP/remote commandTEST81/command pause2/pause /action action order=2 remoteRC-877_AMP/remote commandTEST82/command pause2/pause /action !-- Many more actions... -- /actions /event /events /item and got this in the log several times a second until the Controller was

Glad it works and the info that I gleaned from the web about Denon's ir protocol is correct. I don't have any denon kit so can't check it for myself. With regard to your points: -Good idea about allowing users to define keycode names, I'll look into it for the next release but it's not a massive issue. Something like this should do it: Code: keynames keyname ID=my key combination72/keyname keyname ID=another combination84/keyname /keynames ... key ID=another combination ... -I don't see the difference between a command_group and a remote. If there are a lot of codes with the same paramters, make them into a separate remote, if it's only one or two then manage them on a command-by-command basis. With amps it's fairly common to have a bunch of commands each with different paramters in this case they have to be specified individually and doing it by command, command group, or making each a single-command remote doesn't make much difference. -If you get the ERROR return code then the SqueezeIR menu takes you to the settings screen so it is quite prominent. The warn status indicates that it will work (assuming there's no bugs in the code) but maybe not as expected. It's good practice after changing the xml to goto SettingsSqueezeIRreload configuration and then go into SettingsSqueezeIRabout to check the status. Your problem was due to a bug rather than a problem with your xml. - A way to make menus from profiles without having to duplicate the xml? Not sure, things get really complicated when you begin to define multiple profiles each with a set of nested menus. I'll have to think about it more carefully! - The Controller doesn't have an xml processor. I incorporated a very basic one written by Roberto Ierusalimschy (inventor of lua, the applet programming language) http://lua-users.org/wiki/LuaXml as I wouldn't know where to start writing one myself from scratch. This parser outputs the xml as a (nested) key-value pair dictionary. The interpretor does not maintain element order and is certainly not 100% standards compliant. This is the reason that the xml is so verbose, I have to keep everything very simple structurally so that it will work with the basic interpreter. The downside is there are a lot of container elements. There are more compliant parsers out there but they would require patching the Controller's lua implementation (not straightforward). I'm not sure about the timer error you got and without seeing more of the log file I don't think I'll be able to trace the problem. I presume shorter command chains work ok? From looking at the code the most likely explanation is an illegal value for a pause element or having non-sequential order attributes in the xml. As for lirc-Denon conversion, you convert the command codes into 15-bit binary then the first five bits are the Device code (lsb first). If the last two bits are 00 then the command was captured from the first half of the Denon command and bits 6 to 13 are the command code (lsb first). If the last two bits are 11 then the command was from the second half and bits 6-13 are the inverse of the device code (lsb first). eg 4 was 0x0A88 which in binary is 00010 10100010 00 Device=01000 (8), command=01000101 (69) 5 was 0x0A77 which in binary is 00010 10011101 11 Device=01000 (8), command=01000110 (70) -- indifference_engine indifference_engine's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=20698 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79524 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)
First of all - great work with this plugin! I've been waiting for something like this for a while now! Some background info - Squeezeboxserver 7.5.1 - Linux Kernel 2.6.18-194.8.1.el5 - CentOS 5.5 The plugin generally works fine with some minor hiccups now and then that are sorted out by restarting the Squeezeboxserver itself. For example, I've experienced being logged out and not automatically logged in again and the plugin executable suddenly dying with no trace in the log. The one big annoyance I'm experiencing is that some playlists simply won't load. I've tried uninstalling the plugin, deleting the cache directory and installing the plugin again and setting Maximum Tracks to . Nothing seems to work. I've got two example playlists that don't work for me: Code: - SERVER-IP:9001/spotify:user:bogusine:playlist:3duanRHPHxK4zD6Eb4u3px/playlists.json - SERVER-IP:9001/spotify:user:espenpus:playlist:3mY26Oiz8ZvD7HZjw73YJO/playlists.json This is parts of the JSON generated to list my playlists: Code: { type: playlist, playlists: [ { name: Vaskedag, uri: spotify:user:bogusine:playlist:3duanRHPHxK4zD6Eb4u3px }, { name: Techno / Dance \\ Trance by Espen :), uri: spotify:user:espenpus:playlist:3mY26Oiz8ZvD7HZjw73YJO } ] } An solution or workaround would be much appreciated; or even better, a patch. I don't see the difference between a command_group and a remote. I agree there's not much else in the remote element - the main reason I thought this might be a good idea is to avoid splitting the buttons on a single remote into two or more ID attributes, which means you have to remember / guess later on which button pertains to which device ID. Two or more names doesn't seem to be a good metaphor for the single remote a person might hold in their hands. I suppose allowing identical ID tags on remote elements would also allow this, if it doesn't introduce other problems. A way to make menus from profiles without having to duplicate the xml? Not sure, things get really complicated when you begin to define multiple profiles each with a set of nested menus. I'll have to think about it more carefully! I guess I'm seeing the trade-off of having multiple menus and profiles independent of one another versus ease of configuration a bit differently. I'm not really in a good position to sound off on this because I've only tried to define a simple config and I've no idea how anyone else uses the system. For me, though, things would be just as good if profiles and menus were run together and both changed at the same time (either with a player change or selection from the root menu). I suspect you've gone to a lot of trouble to come up with such a flexible system in the first place, so this may not be an attractive option! Another method that springs to mind (and one that maintains the independence of the profiles and menus) is to allow the actions or even events group to be defined independently and refer to actions / events rather than commands in the menu and profile sections. My first thought was to do this in the remote sections: instead of an ID'd command, an ID'd event could be referred to later on. But of course remote probably should literally describe a remote and in the case of imported LIRC files, there are no command elements to replace anyway. The alternative is introducing an additional layer of abstraction, complicating the XML in one way, even though it simplifies in another. I'm thinking something like the following: Code: remotes remote ID=sample_remote command_group protocol=DENON parameter ID=device12/parameter parameter ID=subdevice20/parameter command ID=POWERvalue80/value/command command ID=SLEEPvalue114/value/command /command_group /remote /remotes events event ID=POWER modifieronce/modifier actions ID=POWER action order=1 remoteRC-877_AMP/remote commandPOWER/command /action /actions /event event ID=SLEEP modifierall/modifier soundtrue/sound actions action order=1 remoteRC-877_AMP/remote commandSLEEP/command pause2/pause /action /actions /event event ID=SLEEP_30 modifieronce/modifier soundtrue/sound actions ID=SLEEP_30 action order=1 remoteRC-877_AMP/remote commandSLEEP/command pause2/pause count4/count /action /actions /event /events profiles profile menuSAMPLE/menu keys key ID=65eventPOWER/event/key key ID=stop use ID=holdeventSLEEP/eventmodifierall/modifier/use use ID=presseventSLEEP_30/event/use /key /keys /profile /profiles menus menu ID=SAMPLE profileSAMPLE/profile item order=1captionPower/captioneventPOWER/event/item item order=2captionSleep/captioneventSLEEP/event/item item order=3captionSleep (30 mins)/captioneventSLEEP_30/event/item /menu /menus I -think- this takes care of all the subtleties necessary (but I'm not completely familiar with your schema) and I've tried to stick to the same rules you seem to be using elsewhere (only a single attribute to any tag, similar elements in their own container element, things that change with other values - such as device and subdevice do with protocol - as parameters rather than element names), but I'm not really sure what the constraints are. The events section is still just as verbose, but the menus and profiles sections are a lot tidier which should make editing them and duplication between menus and profiles easier, especially with simpler items each on their own line. I take your points about the other things - especially the XML processing: I didn't realise a built-in, robust library wasn't available. The problem is the extra code I put in to ensure a playlist was fully loaded - in these cases it is waiting for all tracks to load, but there are tracks in these playlists which don't look like they exist any more. I need to work out how to best work around this. The first playlist contains: spotify:track:3bVTSSwbnrFKVitYcKoNfq The second playlist contains: spotify:track:3R2y4V7N7FlZJs1w9bk2jt spotify:track:6Y8hwbmtqYgdvTgMghQW4D These don't look to be valid tracks to me using the PC version of spotify - can you load them? I've just uploaded a new beta release which is available for download as per previous instructions. Main changes: - add Spotify to Global Search menu - playlist bug fix to ensure playlists with missing tracks load remaining tracks - additional error handling for browse and playlist menus to handle timeouts more gracefully - helper app logging fixed on windows - additional error messages on settings page for linux installations which are not supported There are several internal changes with this version aimed at improving stablity and handling of errors from the spotify library. I would therefore be keen on feedback on stability of this release as well as bug reports. I would like to remove the beta tag soon and make it available from the main 3rd party plugin list. -- Triode Triode's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79706 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
[SlimDevices: Plugins] Softsqueeze 3.9 issues
I had Softsqueeze 3.9 running on a remote machine (at the office) quite well, when the local machine's (at home) ISP decided to drop the connection. DHCP grabbed a different IP address from the home ISP, and my problems began. I changed the IP address for logging into Squeezebox Server (that was easy enough, and it worked), but SoftSqueeze won't log in. I found a Softsqueeze file with the old IP address in it (a plain text file), and I changed that to the new IP address, but that didn't work. I tried uninstalling and re-installing SoftSqueeze, and that didn't work either. I have the latest version of Java installed at the remote location, but the Community SoftSqueeze applet on the Squeezebox Server doesn't recognize that it's running. I've tried re-installng Java, but that hasn't worked either. -- Lyster Lyster's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17183 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80803 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

jmpage2;565259 Wrote: The reality is that the update is slow coming (for whatever reason). The reality is that it was good to have it slowly coming since if I had had it coming fast there would have been quite a few bugs in there. Multitasking DID have it's side effects on iOS4 and those created a number of nice crashes - probably the ones already observed by some people. For now, it's in Apple's hands, have to get through the review. I realize that this is a one man operation Not completely. and the updates can't come as fast as they do for other applications like Mobile Navigator, etc, yet this is a premium priced application Not compared to Mobile Navigator Look. I said it before: iPeng is not a simple App. I can't comment on other Apps and I don't know what problems Mobile Navigator had to fix but this was not an issue of simply recompiling the App, there were substantial changes to be done to some features. The alarms bug was a rather simple fix but it had severe implications because it required the whole App needed to be compiled against iOS4 SDK. It's of course time to do this anyway but it means you have to adapt the App to all other changes in that API, too. Oh, and Apple says that there are over 1,500 API changes in iOS4, just to give you a dimension. Most of them are actually new stuff but still... And given Apple's review process takes one or two weeks to release an App you simply can't afford to release that kind of change without testing. I still don't feel too comfortable with this release even though recent beta tester feedback was good but if it was just me, I would have given it another week. So please don't complain if you'll find that you get different bugs in exchange for a fixed Alarm control, you asked for it. -- pippin --- see iPeng, the Squeezebox iPhone remote, at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51929 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
