Well before multitasking I restarted iPeng frequently, each morning
after the nightly rescan, for example. Now with multitasking iPeng
never quits.

Good that you found a solution.

Hmm, no luck at all with this on Vista using Media Player or iPad apps
as clients. But when I stop Whitebear and fire-up Twonky, all the
clients are connecting to that fine.

Where can I look to see what's causing it to silently fail?

This feature worked on the last version of Ipeng, but now seems broken.
I can't get it to work at all - either manual or automatic. Running mac

have server power control app installed.

Funny. I just found out that automatic cache refresh actually _never_
worked in iPeng unless you do an App restart.
Yet nobody ever complained about it before - I had a suspicion but was
never sure.

So right now you have to manually flush the cache, this will be fixed
in the next release. Then iPeng will indeed refresh the cache whenever
the data on the server changes and hopefully only then

Sorry no this is not supported - you will need to use the normal SBS

I don't see how that could even be possible. What you are asking for is
that Whitebear would somehow become a remote proxy for all other SB
players on the (home) network. Sorry but I can't imagine how to even

I saw the new version coming in and Zonealarm asked me twice about if it
was acceptable to give it access and I did that of course. Unfortunately
nothing seems to have changed though, when trying to play something it
just doesn't work and goes though the same loop of restarting the
application for each track. Where exactly would spotifyd.exe be
installed on my computer (Vista home), I have tried to search for it
but doesn't seem to find it.

Thanks for all the effort to try help with this! Feels so bad that it

Afraid I don't have any idea on this. You could perhaps reinstall the
plugin and/or change the port from 9001 to another port to give
zonealarm a chance to ask you whether it should allow access to a new
program/port (I assume it does this?) There should be a new version of
the plugin available in a few minutes (1.0.5) which you could install to
get a new version of the helper app - I would hope Zonealarm will ask
you if you want to give it full access to incomming sessions?

Thanks, I have now these thre things set to debug:
(player.source) - Player Source Audio & Conversion
Logging(player.streaming.direct) - Player Direct Streaming Logging
(player.streaming) - All Player Streaming Logging

And is attaching the file for that.

Have you any idea on how to open up spotifyd in Zonealarm. I have set
it to be trusted at the highest levels, but that doesn't seen to be
enough.

This doesn't include the extra player.streaming.direct information, but
seems to confirm that the player is asked to connect to the helper app
and then 10 seconds later it gives up and sends back an error.

I suspect this is because a firewall is blocking players connecting to
spotifyd. It could also be that there is another application using
port 9001, but this is unlikely if you can browse playlists ok. I
suggest you look at your firewall to check for incoming connections to
spotifyd.exe which are blocked.

If it isn't available, you will have to goto Settings/Advanced/Applet

Did you try and play something - I expect to see lots more text than
this... Also only need the output from the time when you enabled
player.source debugging as there will be lots of it when you try to
play a spotify or other track.

Still need to see the server log with the extra player.source
debugging. At present it there's nothing in the logs which indicate
why players are not connecting to the helper app. Its probably a
firewall issue, but the extra debugging should indicate whether the
players are being told to connect to the right place or not.

Trying again sending files. The previous ones were from using my iPhone

Helper app is spotifyd.exe

Enable logging on the settings, advanced, logging web page:
- set the player.source one to "debug"
- try to play something
- look at the server log as shown on settings, information page to see
what information was logged. I expect this to include that the player
could not contact the music stream.

Hi again! Yes I have a firewall, but that seems to work fine with
everything else I'm playing from Squeezebox except the Spotify plugin.
What is the name of the helper application? If I know that I can make
sure it is OK in Zonealarm. Where do I enable player.source debugging ?

I think there could be two reasons why there is no "Play To" menu on
your instance of WMP 12

1) I could be wrong, but I think that Softsqueeze is NOT a UPNP / DLNA
Digital Media Renderer ??

2) Perhaps you have not set up WMP 12 to allow streaming to 3rd party
media devices? In WMP 12 press the Stream button and check
"Automatically allow devices to play my media"...

In my case, with "Automatically allow devices to play my media"
checked, my Sony KDL-40Z4500 (DLNA compliant) TV for example does show
up under the Play To menu. BUT -- testing it just now -- I did discover
that there is a small bug that prevents Whitebear from playing the
music. => I will fix it within a couple of hours, and post back.

So there is something strange going on here. The helper log contains
no entries saying it is trying to play a stream, but the server has
given up and restarted the app. I would suspect this is a problem with
players being able to connect to the helper app. Do you have a firewall
which may prevent the players connecting to the helper app? You may
also want to enagle player.source debugging and look at the server log
again after trying to play a stream.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] problem with kdf's Email plugin

2010-08-21 Thread squeeze_paul

I wanted to test KDF's email plugin.
I added his repository, but I can not see the Email plugin in the list
of repositories.
When browsing on the server through the plugins directory, I can see
that there, however, is a plugin named Email.

does anyone have a hint?

btw: every time I go to plugins the web interface of the server, I
tells me that the server needs to be restarted, even if the server has
just been restarted - is there something wrong fundamentally?

[SlimDevices: Plugins] problems with Information Screen / Mail plugin

2010-08-21 Thread squeeze_paul

I fail to get the Mail + Information Screen plugins working on my
controller.
(server: 7.5.1 - r30836)
the mail headers get fetched as I can see in the servers web interface
under Extras -> Mail, but the Controller shows no reaction.

I installed the Information screen from erlands testing repository.
(both of his repositories are in my list).
I installed the information screen applet on the Controller.
In the Information Screen settings under "Various Settings" I set
"Screen configuration directory" to
"/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/Mail/Screens"
and "Screen templates directory" to
"/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/Mail/ScreenTemplates".

Is this correct, or should these be newly created directories?

Under "Manage Screens" I selected under "Default / New Mail" customized
and selected to display "play,idle,off,alarm".

Did I miss something, or did I make a mistake in the configuration?

Can you explain what you would like this to do? There is already the
ability to access artists on spotify from context menus. This means
you can browse the local library to a track and then look that artist
up on spotify (or any of the other music services the server suppots -
this is really a server rather than plugin function)

I installed SB Server, WB Server, and Softsqueeze on my laptop (winxp).

On my Win7 machine, I verified that WB server is visible in Windows
Media Player (WMP) and that I can play music on the Win7 machine by
browsing and playing from there.

However, when browsing the local library in WMP there is no "Play to"
item in the rightclick context menu. Isn't that where I should see my
Softsqueeze instance?

Max's repo is no longer available and hence not in the main plugin
list.

You can reach his plugins at:

You problem looks different from the previous one. The problem here
looks that spotifyd sees the player as connecting from the ip address
85.229.34.182, but squeezebox server thinks the same player is
192.168.10.166. The plugin checks the ip address to correlate the two
and it causes this error.

Is there something special about your network - do have any
understanding why the server machine will consider the connection as
coming from two different addresses?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)

2010-08-21 Thread Zevs

I have a problem with the plugin (1.0.4) not seeming to really log in to
Spotify according to the helper app. I can however see all my playlists,
but when trying to play a playlist it seems that the stream fails for
some reason. I get no sound at all just the message that the plugin is
restarted and then it skips to the next track and then the same
procedure is repeated again and so on until the last track is reached.
No sound coming out at all.
Grateful for help with this. The plugin has worked fine before so this
is something new.

I'm using XP 2002 with service pack 2.

This is the text in the plugin folders settings...

C:\PROGRA~1\SQUEEZ~2\server\Slim\Plugin, C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Application Data\Squeezebox\Cache\InstalledPlugins\Plugins,
C:\PROGRA~1\SQUEEZ~2\server\Plugins

I also notice that in the spotify settings it says this...

If the helper application is not running you may need to download and
install the "Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86)"
which is available from Microsoft.

Presumably I need to do this?

I'm out for the day today but will pick up later. Help much
appreciated, thanks.

I don't know what's happening with Max but I can zip otherplayers up
