Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Where's the Triode Plugin for Spotify, Please?
Ok. I/we've done it. Spotify said You have an active Spotify Premium subscription so that gave me hope. JackofAll said If you're using the 3rd party (Triode) plugin then I suggest you enable debug logging for the helper app (spotifyd) and post to the Announce thread, where the plugin is supported by Triode. So I had a looked up the app in Squeezeserver Settings and saw an Settings option for the plugin. Clicked it. I then had to tick a box that said I was happy to use spotify core or something. I did. That wasn't enough. What finally helped, though, was selecting Always Stream via Helper. It apparently disables the same firmware function in the Squeezebox. I guess they were competing with each other or something. So that's excellent. Thanks for all the help. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] (UK) Freeview radio channels
I can't remember the details but you can save settings as default but this will still mean you have to enter a tuning frequency before startiong the stream. I think starting from a BAT file or just a desktop icon with a command line will work. I think if it is more than about 250 chars - it has to be run from a BAT file. You need to build a command line to launch vlc and starting playing. There are many options so you can have vlc running with no windows or with the GUI window. I think I used the VLC wizard to create the command line but the end result I used in the Tuner plugin was Code: vlc -I dummy --dummy-quiet --no-video --no-sout-video --volume=1024 dshow:// $TUNERDEVICE$ :dshow-tuner-channel=$TUNERFREQ$ :dshow-tuner-input=2 :dshow-video-input=$TUNERVIDINPIN$ :dshow-audio-input=$TUNERAUDINPIN$ :dshow-video-output=$TUNERVIDOUTPIN$ :dshow-audio-output=$TUNERAUDOUTPIN$ :dshow-amtuner-mode=2 :dshow-audio-channels=2 :dshow-audio-samplerate=44100 :dshow-audio-bitspersample=16 :sout=#transcode{acodec=s16l,ab=128,channels=2}:es{access-audio=file,mux-audio=raw,dst-audio=-} The above tuned an analogue Tuner card to stream to output a PCM stream. I think your card will probably also use the DirectShow Windows interface and so you will also need to use dshow parameters. The names of the parameters after the dshow- depends on the card vendor so your card may have similar but different names. Variable in caps (e.g. $TUNERDEVICE$) were replaced by the plugin by devices specific values so these will be fixed for your system. I think you will have only one value to change between each of the batch files - the frequency on the :dshow-tuner-channel or similar parameter. Initially I used the VLC GUI to get streaming working and then I think I open some extra dialogues or checked a option check box and VLC shows the equivalent command line options -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=21804 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

With the SB3, the computer needs to be switched on so it's using the SBS and Triodes daemon which proxies and transcodes the stream for the device. (You cannot stream directly to the device, like with the newer Touch. The firmware will never support it.) I can see that being problematic in that how would Pandora play if it is just one item in a playlist made up of other items like tracks from iTunes, tracks from Rhapsody and/or tracks from Slacker. Perhaps on those types of apps where there is not really a track but a stream (pandora, slacker, radio), this option doesn't apply. In either case, ALSA is working just fine for listening and recording *on the computer*. So I do not understand the need for *arecordrc* or the other *conf* file. I have tried using the URL *wavin: *followed by each the following: (NOTHING) DEFAULT 0 1 HW:0,0 HW:0,1 MON_MIX + Furthermore, I have done so both with and without a preceding // + Furthermore, I have done so both with and without a recorder (*krecord*) running. I have checked the levels when it is running, it is fine. + Furthermore, I have checked *kmix* and ensured that the *Capture* function is turned on and that the buffer is growing. I then take the following steps for each of these variants: 1. Write under *Favorites WaveInput* to change the URL 2. Click *Save* 3. Restart ther server with *[F5]* 4. Click the *[]* button in the left pane of the Server We always get: CONNECTING ... PROBLEM: CAN'T OPEN FILE FOR WAVIN:XXX WHERE XXX IS THE URL SUFFIX WE HAVE ENTERED AFTER WAVIN: SOMETIMES WE GET * NOW PLAYING (CONNECTING...) WAVEINPUT 5. Click PLAY* on the Squeezebox remote control and check the screen to ensure it is reading the same URL. == Thanks again for the reply. Not sure how that would work--just trying to give you my feedback based on what I need/don't need. whcih is what I need: feedback on how it's being used :) The current feature distribution is based around the bulletproof idea (actually removing the trash playlist option was usually the first thing to be asked so far; yet I understand you still want it if you don't have destructive play anymore). But technically there is no real reason for it. 1--does it have to be this way? Can't you play an ablub, have it add all tracks and then skip to the first track of the album? Yes, that wouldn't really be a problem except in these weird App cases. That's why I ask... I'll defer to you. Also, you lost me on the other Logitech apps implication. Not sure what the issue is I'm talking about Music Services. The stuff Logitech calls Apps. The issue is that you (err... I) have no control over whether a track or an album is being added. In some Apps and in the local library it's a track if you add a track, in some other Apps (Rhapsody, for example) always the full album is being added unless you go through the context menu. I might be able to fix this (note to self: should do that anyhow) but I'm not sure. 3--Not sure the implications here. What apps would not have a play next? Because nobody implemented it. Would Pandora be one? Yes. But Pandora also does destructive play on Add sometimes so it doesn't really count, it's weird anyway. I believe Slacker is another example; I've sen it with Rhapsody, too, I believe in Playlists. Perhaps on those types of apps where there is not really a track but a stream (pandora, slacker, radio), this option doesn't apply. That would make sense if not a) Add was still there b) You could not build nice playlists with these items to switch between them using skip. -- pippin --- see iPeng, the Squeezebox iPhone remote and *New: iPeng for iPad*, at penguinlovesmusic.com pippin's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13777 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=51929 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] (UK) Freeview radio channels
I think there are two issues. 1. GUI interface showing when VLC running 2. Dos box showing when VLC is running. The first issue is handled by VLC command line option The second issue is more tricky. You can't close the DOS box window and have VLC still running if the window was opened to make VLC run. The trick is to start VLC but with the option not to have a window or else minimise the window. The Tuner plugin can manage it because when it calls Windows CreateProcess. I think you can do the same by either using something like the hstart program ( http://www.ntwind.com/software/utilities/hstart.html ) or running a desktop short cut with cmd.exe /c followed by your VLC command. In both cases you need to make sure your vlc doesn't open up any GUI windows. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=21804 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

The default is to play other tracks, which is what I assumed here. The issue only affects iPeng and SqueezePad (and maybe some other 3rd party aps) since the Web Interface works differently and SqueezePlay doesn't allow you to add tracks without going through the context menu. If you do _not_ use the context menu, the behavior is inconsistent. By _not_ using the context menu I mean setting the play mode in iPeng to Add or do the same with the setting in SqueezePad (Always Add) or use the popup (Always ask and then select add). If you then select a track in Rhapsody, the whole album will be added to the playlist. If you do the same in your local library, only one track will be added. If you use play next, only one track will be added in Rhapsody, too. That's what I meant with inconsistent. Looking at the Win XP performance stats it is transiently processing about 70 transfers per second, with 2-3% CPU, then nothing much for a couple of seconds, then repeating the cycle. It's as if it is on a timer or waiting for some event somewhere. The scans are set up as follows: Custom Tag is set to read 'WORK,MOVEMENT' from the FLACs. It's 'enabled' and 'included in automatic scans and scan all'. Mixed Tag is also 'enabled' and 'included in automatic scans and scan all', with scanning order '60' (I confess I don't understand what the latter does). Each tag is then set up pretty much 1 to 1, so: ARTIST to Artist ARTIST,ALBUMARTIST to Album Artists ARTIST,TRACKARTIST to Track Artists the rest are 1 to 1 then including custom tags and mapping as follows: ALBUM(Album:Albums),ARTIST(Artist:Artists),GENRE(Genre:Genres),YEAR(Year:Years),CONDUCTOR(Conductor:Conductors),COMPOSER(Composer:Composers),BAND(Band:Bands),TRACKARTIST(Track Artist:Track Artists),ALBUMARTIST(Album Artist:Album Artists) Under the 'various settings', no title format, and all other selections ticked. From what I have read -I dummy seems to work for others but surely it is meant to do as it is doing in my case, i.e. show a dummy DOS shell to run VLC through? VLC cannot produce a dos shell. The -I dummy relates to the VLC window which has drop down menus with close, minimise etc. icon in the title bar. The dos box comes from the method you use to start vlc.exe Also having trouble with the cmd.exe in a shortcut... Am I supposed to put the cmd.exe /c vlc etc all in the target on the propertiesshortcut tab? I think it will be in the Target box but I have a feeling that a dos box will always pop up because Windows does not provide an option to suppress it. The TunerPlay plugin uses a Perl library to create processes and I think this is why dos box doesn't appear. If so it won't take the string length and truncates it. The easiest way to get around this is to put the command line in a BAT file and use a command something like cmd.exe /c vlcmd.bat. If dos box popping up is a big negative, it may be worth looking at hstart. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=21804 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom Scan speed
Do you have to give control to SBS after every track? Or could you perhaps scan, say, 5 tracks at a time? Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: WaveInput for Linux
bpa;608031 Wrote: Correct - I don't agree with your diagrams possibly because of the terminology I would see it as Code: PC application--ALSA --arecord--SBS-- Player -- speakers. ! ! PC Speakers Thank you. Pictures are worth a thousand words! :-) *arecord* is called from the Waveinput plugin. I have */usr/bin/arecord* The message below are often because the arecord is failing either because the selected device is inaccessible, busy or calling process has not got permissions to access it. P1630:~ # LS -L /USR/BIN/ARECORD LRWXRWXRWX 1 ROOT ROOT 5 JAN 18 12:41 /USR/BIN/ARECORD - APLAY It appears that on OpenSuSE 11.3 *arecord* is merely a link to *aplay*. It is also *root* owned, but its permissions are *rwxrwxrwx (0777)*, so should be able to be read, written, or executed by anyone, including the user *andy* (me). Don't forget SBS normally runs as a separate user which is usually setup with no access to audio capabilities. This issue is absolved by the 0777 permission above. Additionally, *andy* is a member of the group *squeezeplayer*, so this should not be a problem. = Excellent!! Thank you again. We are making progress, at least in my comprehension! :-) So what appears to be *essential* is ***arecord***. From your diagram it appears that SBS (and WaveInput) look for *arecord*. I have */usr/bin/arecord* on my system. -But I do not have- *arecordrc* So do you know of any useful examples of *~/.arecordrc*? And most importantly, what is the URL I must use: *wavin:???* As mentioned before, I've googled, but only found generic forms, the actual details of the *.arecordrc* and *wavin:URL* values elude me... Thank you again, especially for the picture.. It is starting to make sense. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Custom Scan speed
SteveEast;608123 Wrote: Do you have to give control to SBS after every track? Or could you perhaps scan, say, 5 tracks at a time? Steve. I need to do it after every track, the reason is to at least make it theoretically possible to stream music simultaneously. Streaming is really sensitive to plugins that do long operations, so even one track can be a bit long, especially on slow hardware. If I would do 5 tracks at the time, the user interface would also get very unresponsive during scanning, even worse than it already is. The only solution would be to make it configurable so people with fast hardware can let it do multiple tracks but people with slower hardware can keep the current solution. I would consider that if 7.6 didn't already have a solution for it, but since 7.6 will improve this a lot I don't want to spend time making the current solution more advanced. -- erland Erland Isaksson ('My homepage' (http://erland.isaksson.info)) (Developer of 'many plugins/applets' (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/User:Erland).
