Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)

2012-02-20 Thread donald24

Hello there,

first of all - thank you for this plugin. It makes the spotify service
an enjoyable experience on the Squeezebox.

I'd like to mention two things, that I couldn't find in the thread, so
it might be possible, that they contribute to make the plugin even
better:

I really like the radio feature, for it is making me discover new
music. But apart from that, I'm not really to much interested in
learning swedish and scandinavian languages, but 3-4 out of 10 songs
are in those languages (at least in the PoP-sections, I'd like to
listen the most). Can you influence that, the windows-client does not
do that.

The other thing is, setting the plugin to stream as PCM rather than
FLAC to the touch cause rebufferings, songs skips makes PCM unusable.
There is no network congestion, i.e. locally 96/24 FLACs play without
problem streamed as PCM. I don't really care about that one though, but
found it worth meantioning, as I first thought it was the
spotify-service that has problems server-side, but reverting to FLAC
solved any skips/rebuffers.

But anyhow - keep up the good work!

Don

Yep. That's the server.
IPeng uses the documented status query from the CLI instead of the

[SlimDevices: Plugins] installing LMS 7.5.1 on freenas 0.7.5 in /slimnas possible?

2012-02-20 Thread michieliooo

Hi ,
My question is more suited for the people who have Logitech Media
server running on a freenas server. I suppose the 3rd party software
forum is maybe a better place for this question:

I am reinstalling LMS again on a fresh freenas installation. This time
I use a 16 GB SSD kingston drive. Freenas booting like crazy .

What I am trying to do is to install slimnas in the root on the SSD in
/slimnas. This is a little deviation of your install instruction.
Benefit would be that I could have the 1 TB datadisk (/mnt/data) spin
down.

I have the extension in the freenas menu, but when choosing a LMS
version (i have 7.5.1, 7.7.0 and 7.7.1 only the folders usr var etc are
created in the slmnas folder, but files are not copied in them.

Is it not possible to install slimnas in the root of the freenas OS?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: New versions of erlands plugins

2012-02-20 Thread Capricorn

Hello Erland,

I've been working now for more than five years with the different
releases of Slim-/Squeeze-/Logitech-Centre/Server and a number of your
great plugins, especially my absolute favorite, Trackstat.

My feeling is, that beginning more or less in January, the
startup-performance of the Media Server dropped dramatically. Instead
of three minutes in the past it now takes 15 (!) minutes to come up
with Squeeze(LMS)server.

Whatever I tried, it didn't work. At least I inactivated all your
plugins except the License Manager to test the startup behaviour
without it. It was a real surprise, that it now took only 35 seconds to
start the server. After that I activated your plugins one by one. I now
can definetely say, that it is the trackstat plugin, that's responsible
for that poor startup performance of the Media Server.

Do you have any solution for that issue in the pipeline?

Thanks in advance for your response...

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Kidsplay: extend for Touch (IR)?

Is there any way that Kidsplay could be extended for the Touch? From

holding down on remote number buttons. I looked into the Kidsplay code

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Slow Custom Browse Menus and Custom Scans

2012-02-20 Thread PasTim

Since SQLite was introduced in SBS 7.6, I have had some performance
problems with Custom Browse and Custom Scan.

1) The most problematic issue was that some of my Custom Browse menus
were very slow at times, causing music playing at the same time to be
interrupted for quite a while. Several menus took 2 minutes to return
data on first selection. After that they were fine for a while. If I
ran a slow menu first so that it was subsequently quick, stopped LMS
and restarted it, the menu was still quick. However, after a while,
without stopping LMS, they got slow again.

2) My Custom Scan times were initially better than on SBS 7.5, but
these too got worse, and a full scan was now taking over 3 hours.

I have spent a lot of time trying to determine the cause of these
issues, and am glad to be able to say that, with Erland's help, I
believe have resolved them all.

On my system there are two sources of these extended delays. One is
the operating system, and the other is the SQL for the menus. I'll
deal with my environment and operating system first.

GENERAL PERFORMANCE AND SCAN TIMES

My PC is a 2 * 2GHz CPU system, about 5 years old but still quick
enough for everything I do. It has two new disks, both SATA2, one
holding my music and one the software etc. I have getting on for
20,000 tracks, 1,200 albums and over 500 artists. I have the latest
Custom Browse plugin (v2.13.3789), and the latest alpha Custom Scan
plugin (v3.0pre3781) which is much better at handling a small number of
additions or changes).

I normally run Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate.

I installed VirtualBox and Vortexbox 2 (i.e. running Vortexbox on top
of Windows). My Custom Scan times went down from 3 hours to 2 hours.
My menus were quicker, but still too slow.

I installed a dual-boot Ubuntu 11.10 system (i.e. running pure linux).
My Custom Scan times went down to 30 minutes. Menu times are even
better, but I still had 30 second delays.

The overall performance of LMS is much, much better with a stand-alone
linux-based system, so I shall probably be investing in a separate
system (possibly a VortexBox) at some point, not possessing a spare PC
to use. However, negotiations with my better half may take some time!

I won't suggest that such installations have been without pain. I'm
not that good with linux, and many problems with LMS had me stumped for
many hours. It was, however, worthwhile in the end.

MENUS

My music tags and related Custom Browse menus are designed for
classical music. They are very closely based on those proposed by
Erland. See
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Setup_browse_menu_for_classical_music.
The main addition is that I have added an additional Custom Tag
'WORKARTIST', which is the primary artist for a WORK (i.e. for a
selection of MOVEMENTS). This allows me to distinguish between the
primary Artist on an ALBUM (ALBUMARTIST) and that for a track or
MOVEMENT (ARTIST or TRACKARTST).

I have several menus based on the 'Works by Composer' menu, all of
which had the same or similar performance problem. The key section of
that menu is the top level menu section, that originally looked like
this (the formatting below is a bit odd and contains spurious spaces -
the original doesn't):

menudata
select
customscan_track_attributes.extravalue,customscan_track_attributes.value,
substr(ifnull(customscan_track_attributes.valuesort,customscan_track_attributes.value),1,1),
ifnull(customscan_track_attributes.valuetype,'mixedtagCOMPOSER') from
customscan_track_attributes

join multilibrary_track on
customscan_track_attributes.track=multilibrary_track.track and
multilibrary_track.library=2

join customscan_track_attributes as attr2 on
customscan_track_attributes.track=attr2.track and
attr2.module='mixedtag' and attr2.attr='WORK'

join customscan_track_attributes as attr3 on
customscan_track_attributes.track=attr3.track and
attr3.module='mixedtag' and attr3.attr='WORKARTIST'

where customscan_track_attributes.module='mixedtag' and
customscan_track_attributes.attr='COMPOSER'
group by customscan_track_attributes.extravalue
order by
ifnull(customscan_track_attributes.valuesort,customscan_track_attributes.value)
asc
/menudata

This menu item reads all COMPOSERs that are in the Classical
Multi-library (I have 2 libraries, one Classical and one for every
other genre), have associated WORKs, and associated WORKARTISTs. That
means that a lot of my Custom Scan database must be read and linked to
other records in the same database.

After a lot of trial and (mainly) error I realised that most of this is
unnecessary. Looking at the 'joins':

a) I don't care if a COMPOSER is listed in the menu and has no WORKs or
WORKARTISTs - I'll find out later on.
b) None of my non-classical stuff has COMPOSER tags.

All the 'joins' can therefore be disposed of. Two further tweaks I
applied because using functions in the SQL probably slows it down.
So:

c) the 'valuesort' attribute always seems to be set (by

You have to make sure the playlists are scanned properly without the
Multi Library plugin first.

The Multi Library plugin will only make it possible to divide a main
library into sub libraries, it can't be used to scan additional
directories which haven't been scanned into the main library yet.

Based on your description, I suspect that the playlists isn't in the
main library and you have tried to use Multi Library plugin to scan an
additional directory, if this is the case it's not how this plugin
works.

The easiest way to handle this is to create a Windows shortcut inside
the folder Squeezebox Server scans that points to the other folder, I
think this will make it scan both.

In 7.7 and later I think you should also be able to set them up as
Media Folders since 7.7 supports multiple media folders.

should work.

Do you get a Classical Music entry in the main My Music folder ?
Do you see a Classical/Works by Composer entry in the Custom Browse

Have you tried to restart Squeezebox Server to see if that helps, some

Do you know which version of LMS and TrackStat you used before it
started to get slow ?

I did a change in TrackStat in beginning of January, but the intention
with that was that it would become faster not slower. However, the
first time after installation it's probably going to be slower because
then it upgrades the database and that takes some time.

Can you install the free Database Query plugin and run the two
queries:
- TrackStat Statistics
- TrackStat Inconsistency/Problems
And report back the result from them ?

Another thing that would help, is if you try to temporarily enable
debug logging of plugin.trackstat in LMS Settings/Advanced/Logging
and check the Save logging settings for use at next application
restart option and then restart LMS and post/send me the log after the
startup has finished. TrackStat will log some information to the log
regarding how long time each step in the refresh process takes and this
information is very valuable to detect what's causing it to become slow
in your setup.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2012-02-20 Thread Michael Herger
Hi, I altered the per player settings for Napster on mysqueezebox.com to
show on the home menu but in when it is displayed in iPeng on the top
menu (I'm using the iPad app) the MOG icon is displayed alongside the
word 'Napster' and if I try to use it I'm presented with a message that
I need to create a MOG account. Napster in the My Apps menu looks fine
and works fine. Very strange. Thank you for any advice, Richard.

Do you see the same on the player and/or web UI as well?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: WaveInput for Linux

2012-02-20 Thread bluto99

PasTim;690909 Wrote:
It took many, many hours, but I got vlc to work in the end.

On my debian (wheezy) laptop, obtained the latest vlc version 1.2 and
built it (I tried 2.1 but couldn't get it to build properly). This was
a painful process, requiring many libraries to be added. When some could
not be added, sometimes removing one of the conflicting ones, then
adding it back in (getting a slightly different version) eventually
worked. Some of the missing libraries were said by the vlc ./configure
command not be be critical, but I found out later that they were.

Finally with a vlc that would recognise 'pulse' as an input I got it to
 work. My command line is:

 cvlc pulse://alsa_output.pci-_00_lf.5.analog-stereo.monitor
 :sout='#transcode{vcodec=none,acodec=mp3,ab=320,channels=2,samplerate=44100}:http{dst=:8079/st.mp3}'
 :no-sout-rtp-sap :no-sout-standard-sap

 A few notes:

 - cvlc runs vlc silently (I use killall vlc to stop it)
 - the alsa_output. name comes from looking at the information shown
by the same pacmd command you used.
 - I tried using acodec=vorb for OGG but overloaded the laptop and got
 breakup
 - I didn't get flac to work - no doubt some form of codec issue
 - I am using my headphone socket adaptor plugged in to stop the audio
via the speakers on the laptop (I couldn't find a way to stop the
audible laptop sound without also stopping the streaming).
 - I found pavucontrol (not originally installed) helpful in showing
 what was going on.

Two tweaks that may also have helped. vlc has a 'real time' option
 under tools, preferences, show 'all'.

 Pulse audio has a file under /etc/pulse called daemon.conf. There's a
 line containing
 ; realtime-scheduling=yes
 Change this to
 realtime-scheduling=yes
 And
 ; default-fragment-size-msec = 25
 to
 default-fragment-size-msec = 10

Poured myself a beer, or 2.

Thanks so much for the hard work! Had spent many hours trying to get
VLC system audio streaming working in OS X and Ubuntu Linux without
success until I found your post, with some minor modification on the
source info am now streaming Pandora One (in order to get 192 vs. 128)
from Ubuntu to my Squeezebox Touch and FWIW Ubuntu is running within OS
X via Virtualbox
It might be worth starting a new thread since this most excellent
and useful solution is within the linux waveinput thread...and the
related info in your VLC Windows streaming post was helpful
tooanyway, thanks again
