The original menu file is dated 23/01/2015 and a file size of 26,476B in
its properties. The first of the new versions is dated 14/02/2015 and is
27,416B.

The menu.opml currently installed is dated 16/02/2015 and is 27,412B.
This is the only version of menu.opml in the folder, the others having
been archived to PC to avoid conflict.
I have also changed its permissions to match other files in that folder,
ie group: guest , owner: squeezeboxserver
Owner: R/W, Group: R, Others: R, Octal 0644.

Is it worth manually inputting a url into the radio app via the lms ui

Try this one: rename to menu.opml

I have done this, but get the same error message: "Problem: Can't open

I stayed with 7.7.2 because I found a blog post describing an install on
on Raspberry that included patches, so I figured it was required.
Today I installed 7.8, without any patching, and it works out of the box
- but the issue with the Spotify plug in is still there.

If you need help - start by describing what you have and then somebody
will help you with your specific platform.

Have you tried the instruction on the first couple of posts. Only by
getting feedback on what is missing /unclear can they be improved for
the less technical.

2015-02-17 Thread ukslim

A big thanks to all concerned.

I use a Raspberry Pi as my server.
I listen to Radio 4 live in the mornings on my Squeezebox Radio
I listen to 6 Music Listen Again on my Boom in the daytime.
I listen to Radio 4 Listen Again on my Squeezebox Radio at bedtime.
... and sometimes my girlfriend puts on 5 Live, live.

All working fine until last night, when 5 Live gave us the
WMA-discontinued message.

This morning I:
- Installed ffmpeg with "apt-get install ffmpeg" (not sure this is
necessary, since I then replace the binary)
- Fetched expectingtofly's ffmpeg binary from
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?53229-Announce-BBCiPlayer-Plugin-(UK-only)&p=807365&viewfull=1#post807365
-- copied /usr/bin/ffmpeg to /usr/bin/ffmpeg.bak, unzipped
expectingtofly's into /usr/bin/ffmpeg
- Installed PlayHLE as described here:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?103158-Announce-PlayHLS-Plugin-plugin-to-play-Apple-HLS-m3u8-stream&p=807654&viewfull=1#post807654

- Went to
/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/BBCiPlayer ,
backed up menu.opml and replaced it with menu.opml from
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?53229-Announce-BBCiPlayer-Plugin-(UK-only)&p=807276&viewfull=1#post807276

Restarted the server.
Navigated to BBC IPlayer -> Listen live -> Radio 5 Live -- it played
OK.
Held down my preset button, to get the new URL saved.

I have a Logitech UE Squeezebox Radio and use Triodes BBC iplayer App V
1.16. especially the on demand feature. Since the changes in streaming I
currently use radiofeeds.co.uk and Tunein apps to listen to live radio.
Currently Triodes app provides on demand for R4, 4X and others but not 6
Music. As a non tech I can resolve the issue of accessing live radio but
not the on demand feature which I really miss. I hope this will be
resolved shortly by one of the Developers. Apologies if this has been
discussed elsewhere but if anybody has an update on the technical
feasibility of restoring Triodes on demand feature to all of BBC output
on this app please let me know. Thanks

This is odd. 6 Music "listen again" never stopped working for me. I am
listening to it right now.

I have installed FFMpeg and PlayHLS, but only because live 5Live had
stopped working (and it's fixed).

OK - on Synology there is no /tmp.

Can you try one one more command - if available this command
automatically find the designated temp area on a system. If it works
it would mean one version of the Debug Plugin works for all Linux
systems.
mktemp --tmpdir -u abcXXX

It seems you are using the Radio without a local PC running LMS so the
suggestions about media server and plugin are not relevant.

1. On demand still works but your radio may be setup wrong. In the main
BBC Radio menu which starts "listen Live" and near the end with "BBC
York" - make sure the menu "Stream" (below BBC York) is set to "Highest
bitrate" and not WMA.
2. The live stream need new URLs - As a stopgap you can use the Search
Menu to search for BBC under Radio, select and play a BBC station and
then add the playing station as a Favorite

There is /tmp on Synology (at least on mine and I suspect all).

That command returns:

/tmp/abcHwy

on my Synology.

Thanks for your response. The radio is indeed a stand alone device not
requiring a PC running LMS. I have altered the stream as you suggest but
I can still only access R4 and R4X on demand on Triodes applet V 1.16
Thanks for advice about live radio which I access through Tunein or

On demand should be working for all station not just R4 and R4X.

Triode has not posted any info about updates to the Applet. The BBC
have not handled this changeover very well. It was very sudden and it
takes time for 3rd party developers to understand the changes, plan
updates and then find time to make and test updates knowing full well
that there will be a lot of subsequent support questions to be answered.

There is a difference between the two Synology products - one is arm
based and the other Intel and the linux is different.

On Klammer's NAS, it's possible that LMS is not running from volume1 in
which case the /tmp would have failed but that does not explain why no
log on onlyconnect's NAS.

The other possibility is the shell on the arm is "ash" which is not a
full shell (e.g. bash) and so my script may not run.

What shell is running onlyconnect's NAS ?

My NAS is ARM.

When I get an SSH error, this type of message is shown:

DiskStation> cd /tmp/abcHwy
*-ash: *cd: can't cd to /tmp/abcHwy

Does that clarify which shell is running or is it the "crosh" I'm using
on Chromebook?

but I'm not sure what should be filled in for the three variables, and

Hello

I have had my Squeezebox Touch for three years now and think it's
wonderful.

I live in Canada but was born in the UK and use the third party BBC
iPlayer app to access 6 music and Radio 4. I was totally unaware until
yesterday of the BBC no longer supporting WMA when I found I could not
access Listen Live anymore on the App.

I have read some of this thread but I must confess I am finding it hard
to understand, not being the most technically minded. I would really
like to get the App working again, would one of you chaps be kind enough
to point me in the right direction as to where to start ?

Many many thanks

You have two "Linux" type system - NAS and Chromebook.

The NAS is running ash as its shell scriupt. ash takes up much less
memory than bash.

"crosh" on Chromebook is a terminal emulator written in Javascript (i.e
runs within the browser) and it provide an ssh session (i.e. _S_ecure
_SH_ell) to a host (e.g. Synology NAS) which accepts logins using ssh.
After login all the command prompts will comes from the NAS and using
the NAS' ash shell.

A tiny step back in the right direction. But it looks like they're still
intent on destroying the full listen again functionality next week,
restricting it to the much more limited range of programmes already
available on podcast and with very low sound quality.

I am heartbroken at such wanton vandalism - and they're simply going to
brazen it out because the radio community doesn't have any clout these
days.

I'll have to think very hard whether I pay my licence next time around..

That BBC blog post says Listen Again WMA streams end next week. Now does
that mean just WMA, or as with listen live does it actually mean the end
of the ShoutCast streams? One of the commentors on that blog post says
that by the end of February Listen Again will be HLS only though they
don't quote their source. If this is true then everything becomes much
more serious as we lose Listen Again. At which point I don't think
there's any solution except an updated iPlayer plugin, there are too
many ever changing URLs to bookmark them for PlayHLS use.

I'm a little concerned there have been no postings from Triode on this
entire situation.

I went into the router settings and allowed the NAS's i.p. address to
"access blocked sites" and now it plays the 320 aac stream.

Is the the root of all my problems?

Thanks

Looking again at that September "blog" I'm coming to the depressing
conclusion that it'll just be access to the various pre-existing podcast
mp3 streams - lousy quality and only a fraction of the programmes
transmitted over the previous week.

Pun intended? :)

Anyone with problems using the internet, or even home networks, needs to
check firewalls, routers and so on quite early on to make sure their
problems aren't of that type. I should know - I've been burned often

about that but from what I have read it sounds like 'Listen Again' is
about to have a lobotomy down to MP3 format and only things that are

If anyone knows different, I'd love to be corrected, as I'll deeply miss
the wide range of programs that I can 'Listen Again' to when working in

Haha, yes, pun most definitely intended:D

I went into the router settings and allowed the NAS's i.p. address to
"access blocked sites" and now it plays the 320 aac stream.

However, I've just tried to play this :

This makes no sense. We've got AAC Listen Again now which has no DRM, so
why does loss of WMA mean Listen Again would be lobotomised down to just
MP3 podcasts?

If this is true then the iPlayer plugin becomes almost worthless to me.
I'll be recording Radio 3 on Freeview and listening on FM or maybe DAB.
And this is supposed to be a step forwards is it?

Does anyone know if we will have AAC streams for 'Listen Again' (and a
broad range of programmes >> just Podcasts) in March, or do I need to
hook up get_iPlayer and build my own Listen Again at home?

OK. So to use the plugin, you'll need to register, first, at
www.radiofeeds.co.uk/squeeze
There'll be instructions issued on how to download and install the

You're right to say the HLS streams are not in the MySB app. That is
because they cannot be decoded in MySB mode.

The BBC streams in MySB should be in both WMA (for now) and mp3 formats.

I have the debug plugin installed.

I wonder if I should uninstall and reinstall LMS and start again? It'll
take a good long time to rebuild my library though as it's huge...
(Total Tracks: 70,478
Total Albums: 5,278).

I've never understood the coverArt log entries either, but it has never
affected anything in the past, it's just the BBC changes that I can't
listen to so it seems a shame to have to start from scratch if not
really necessary?

Thanks

Hi Tim

Some stations show artwork, others not. For example, the "old" Radio 3
shows the station logo while reinstated Radio 3 HD (aac@320) doesn't.

I'm very fussy with my music tagging and album covers show up fine on
those that I've added covers to.

Thanks

This is what I got:

DiskStation> ls -l

-rwxrwxr-x1 adminusers0 Feb 17 16:36 playhls.sh
DiskStation> sh playhls.sh -loglevel verbose -i http://badurl -f flac
test.flc

I did the same as Tim with the "./playhls.sh" as it errored so I used
"sh /playhls.sh"

Thanks

As for ffmpeg, this is interesting I think. From your test command I
just get a "Failed to resolve hostname: badurl". However I also managed
to get a log from trying to play a BBC stream, after modifying the
script to specify the correct location of bash on my system

IIRC that's OK - you could check by see if test.flc plays.

Except for the "sleep" everything runs OK - yet it doesn't when invoked
from LMS - that "feels" like a permissions issue.

What is the userid of the process that runs LMS as shown by the "ps"
command ?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: WaveInput for Linux

2015-02-17 Thread Viator

Hi!

I've been trying for about 3 days to get the WaveIn Plugin running on my
rasperry and I have no idea what I can do anymore.

As mentioned I have a Raspberry Pi Model B running Arch Linux and LMS
7.8. LMS is running fine and also the CD-Player Plugin is working fine
(after I found out, that I have to add the user running LMS to group
"optical"). Thanky very much for this plugin.

I can run arecord -D plughw:1 to record audio data and I can play this
data.

I have created a favourite wavein:plughw:1 but when I click on play just
nothing happens. Playlist simply shows "empty". I tried to enable debug
in the protocol but the protocol stays more or less empty. Just
showing:

[15-02-17 15:45:31.7520] Plugins::WaveInput::Plugin::BEGIN (29) Settings
called
[15-02-17 15:45:32.7146] Plugins::WaveInput::Plugin::initPlugin (42)

[15-02-17 15:45:32.7203] Plugins::WaveInput::Settings::new (34) New
Settings
[15-02-17 15:45:32.7288] Plugins::WaveInput::Settings::init (95)

That's all and as mentioned I really have no idea where to look to find
the problem. Your help is really appreciated.

Nothing in /tmp (which is hidden but accessible) or @tmp

I used "find / -name playhls-sh.log 2>/dev/null" but nothing found

Thanks for checking.

Progress - Found the problem. As usual stupid silly error.

First line of shell asks for "/bin/bash" and there is no bash on your
synology boxes - which is why it is OK once run from /bin/sh.

OK - I'll make a new version using /bin/sh and test against ash (dash on
Ubuntu).

It might be interesting to find out what happens with the lower bit rate
streams.

I find that ffmpeg has to work a great deal harder to transcode the
'sbr_low' variant compared with the 'sbr_high' stream that I have been
using. With ffmpeg->flac I cannot stream more than one of the low bit
rate streams on the Sheevaplug, whereas I seemed to be managing three of
the high bit rate streams. That might impact international users
somewhat.

Do the same for 4 extra, and some others. Do all show a logo, or only

I don't there is need at the moment to reinstall. If you can play from
Library and other streams works and the "covertArt" message are an "old"
symptom then leave things as they are.

Since you managed to get BBC stream into a file output.flc and it was OK
- it means the router was not blocking the m3u8 BBC stream.

I want to figure out why the Debug playhls.sh script is not working on
Synology

Can you (and onlyconnect) run the following commands from a shell prompt
where you have already done a "cd" to the PlayHLS plugin (ending with

WebUI Settings/Information will gives details of the Plugin directory

I think the various wrapper scripts that I've seen to date will only
deal with ffmpeg when it is the only transcoder employed. Where there is
a further pipeline I'm finding that it is not being killed. Perhaps some
further research required. Or just the updated ffmpeg that doesn't hang

That was a very useful test. My Squeezebox Classic, receiving a
transcoded PCM stream, quietly drifted behind the Radio, receiving a
passthrough AAC stream, at the rate of about 1 second in 12 ! I
eventually twigged that this must be due to the BBC 48000 sample rate vs
the 44100 'assumption' that I think the players must be making. I had
forgotten that PCM stream data do not include the sample rate, so
without 'out of band' knowledge, the players must make an assumption.

Adding an '-ar 44100' to ffmpeg command line fixes matters, but at great
cost in processor load.

I think the flac stream does not suffer from the same problem, in that
it seems the sample rate is embedded in the stream data, and the players
recognize it. Time will tell if that is really true.

I've just posted a 1.3 of the Debug plugin - this fixes the script
problem (bash/ash) but still tries to write logs into /tmp.

If you restart LMS and then goto Settings/Plugins, you should see that
1.03 is waiting to be installed.

If no log files are found - I'll do another mod to find a /tmp dir that
can be written.
What is the directory where LMS log files are saved on your NAS ( shown

Logging works now for me.

17427

I am also seeing different behaviour. Playing an HLS stream now looks as
it is working; the track time counts up and the pause button remains
active. However no sound is heard.

iPeng neither browses your folders nor does it support any file types.
The server needs to do all that.
Artwork files alone usually don't show up in the server responses so
there's little iPeng can do.
Also, the music folders are horrendously slow and there is no
versioning, this would be a really good way to keep your server and
iPeng busy for a few hours to sort things through just to have to throw
it all away and start over once you change anything.

No, you either need to organize your files in one of the ways (there are
plenty) the server understands and can organize itself or you need to
have a plugin written that does the handling for you.

iPeng can't help with this, it doesn't have access to your file system
in the first place, it runs on the wrong device...

I'd like to encourage users getting new version of ffmpeg rather than
trying to bandage up something that will never be good. I reckon within
a short while there'll be good builds for all the main platforms.

That's clear. Thank you.
I'll check on the server side what can be done.

Have a look at the semantics around storing artwork files in an artwork
folder. I've never done it but I know it's supported.

Please can you post the link again for the repository for the new Debug
Plugin?

Or is it the same as last time?

I've uninstalled the previous one and restarted LMS but the new one
isn't there to activate now...

Just to add to the Synology data points - I'm seeing exactly the same
behaviour.
LMS Version: 7.7.3 running on Synology Diskstation DS112+ (ARMv5TE)
Squeezebox Radio and Classic
PlayHLS Debug v1.3
ffmpeg-3076.log and playhls-sh.log are created in /TMP
Stream appears to play (track time increases) but no sound

Can post logs if they will help - but they look very similar to
onlyconnects

Last night I did try to install Bash and a different version of ffmpeg
but I don't think it worked - need to dig deeper on that

OK, I've managed to install the new version. I played
http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_four_extra.m3u8
and this time it said "Connecting..." and then the clock kept running
but no sound was heard.

LMS log attached (I hope I selected the right debug option)

I need to look for the PlayHLS log next

The log showed a RadioTime URL being played not the m3u8 one - if you
are using a favorite then something has got modified. If you are using
Tune-in then it is not showing in the log which may be wrong place in
the log.

The log shows that ffmpeg only ran for about 3 secs. Could you let the
track time counter go for about 30 secs before clearing the playlist and
posting the log files again.

I was intending to raise this matter - particular with reference to
Ubuntu, etc.

There are people recommending the apt-get install from the
ppa:kirillshkrogalev repository.

Others have mentioned the up to date static builds from
http://johnvansickle.com/ffmpeg/ (which is lilnked to on the ffmpeg
website). This is the road I went down.

For the brave/technically competent there is also the option of
compiling a static build, using the instructions given on
https://trac.ffmpeg.org/wiki/CompilationGuide/Ubuntu

Then there is the libav fork ...

Is it possible to come to a considered view about best option?

I put the url into the tunein Radio URL and hit play, is this wrong? I
don't have any favourites stored and LMS isn't reading the updated
menu.opml which I installed.

Attached the log file which was found in /volume1/tmp (hooray!)

Totally agree. I have posted about it in all sorts of places. I HOPE
that Listen Again remains as is (in HLS) and I see you have asked Jim to
clarify.
We however do appear to be the luckiest (due to bpa). People with
inferior systems - Sonos, Naim, Cambridge Audio and any number of AV
Receiver manufacturers still have no service.
I have complained to the BBC but the thrust of the complaint is not that
they have done what they have but instead they did it without notice and
without adequate consultation with manufacturers. I might have a
slightly different view if I owned a Sonos.
