There has been a problem running the Spotty helper application. Most
likely your operating system and/or platform is not supported. Please
report the following details to me:

Operating system: Debian / i686-linux

I've got the above message. I'm running on an old version of debian, on
an old cpu, but everything else is running great

when I try and run the spotty binary I get:

Hi Michael,

just updated to the 7.9 nightly build, and all is now well. :-)

Thanks so much for the prompting, and sorry not to have tried this for
myself without troubling you.

thanks again

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotify Protocol Handler - play Spotify on all your Squeezeboxen

2016-11-28 Thread MattC

Hi Michael,

if I play an album it goes from one track to the next just fine.

I have a transporter, a couple of booms, and a couple of SB3 - the
problem is across all of them.

I'll update to the latest LMS server s/w, and see if that helps.

I'll post back when I've tried.

thanks
Matt

Hi Michael,

it's definitely not a repeat mode thing, that was the first thing I
checked.

I don't think it's a plugin thing, I certainly don't have either of the
plugins you mentioned active.

could it be any of these:

I don't think this is my issue, I've just checked, and I only have one
spotify a/c configured in mysb.com and it matches that one in the
protocol handler.

Hi Michael,

if I add one spotify track to an empty playlist, and then add another,
the first track will repeat for ever, and the 2nd will never get played.
I don't think I'm the only person to have experienced this, but presume
I'm in the minority. Any help to bottom this out would be very much
appreciated.

up in the web interface, but generally doesn't on the squeezebox
device.

Squeezebox Server is Version: 7.5.3 - r31792, running on linux.

I can see the helper app running.

With the spotify plugin logging on, I get the attached in server.log,
in which nothing jumps out at me.

any help greatly appreciated
thanks
Matt

Hi Triode,

I've attached the helper app log. Log level currently set to 'info' -
is this sufficient?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)

2011-07-29 Thread MattC

just carefully read the front page, and made some observations:

- front page state that libFLAC.so.8 is required

- My server is still running Debian 4.0, so whilst the necessary flac
packages are installed, I'm back on libFLAC.so.7

- the helper process that is running is: spotifydnoflac (is the
'noflac' bit due to the above?)

 However it doesn't seem to actually start the stream. Is it possible
 that you have some other applications using the same port number on the
 machine in some way? The helper app should see the playback player
 connecting, it doesn't seem to. Have you tried Squeezeplay or
 SoftSqueeze running on the server?

I've had a ponder on this, and I suspect that the problem stems from me
having a proxy server configured in squeezecenter. If I look in my
squid log, I see this:

in that case couldn't/shouldn't the plugin ignore the Squeezebox Server

just thought I'd dig this thread up again, as I've been trying to get

server is running debian linux.

BBC iPlayer plugin is 1.1.7 (freshly installed)

SqueezeCenter s/w is Version: 7.5.1 - r30836 downloaded today.

I'm in the UK

I am running no modifications or anything, I've installed everything
from scratch, the only thing I copied over from the previous install
was prefs/server.prefs

Any thoughts on how I can further this?

many many thanks
Matt

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC iPlayer plugin appears to have stopped working for me....

2010-08-14 Thread MattC

Hi Triode,

I have a direct ADSL connection to the internet.

There is a (squid) proxy running on the same server as squeezecenter
and squeezecenter is configured to use that proxy in the place where
you specify a proxy, but my outbound internet access is not filtered in
any way, and the proxy is not running in transparent mode or anything
like that.

I assume this shouldn't stop the iPlayer plugin working?

thanks
Matt

Hi Triode,

just removed the proxy setting, and can confirm that I'm now listening
to one of today's earlier proms in AAC and it's sounding great!

I can't remember if there's any reason why I still need a proxy
configured, although I have a niggling feeling there is some reason, so
if you are able to make the plugin work with the proxy configured it
would be useful.

thanks

Hi Triode,

just dug back through my old posts on here, and found this one:

does that seem like a reasonable solution, maybe suitable for inclusion

(I'll try it again at some point, but probably not until after the

thanks for your help, and thanks for all your hard work on a really

yes, I actually had a look at the code after I posted - it's changed

 Could you try the RTMP.pm file attached as an alternative to the one

2010-01-22 Thread MattC

Hi Triode  bpa,

 Have you tried setting the prefer wma option in the settings web page
 for the plugin?

okay, with that option enabled I can listen again... but it'd be
nice to have the higher quality if possible - I am UK based, with a UK
ISP

 The error says the response received from the server was not what was
 expected.

can I type in an RTMP command after a telnet, in the same way as I can
do a GET / HTTP/1.0 type command after telnet-ing to a web server?

I've tried something like DESCRIBE rtmp://streamurl RTMP/1.0 and I get
nothing back. I seem to get nothing back at all, the server just
appears to close the connection after I enter any command, with no error
reported.

 What is the host OS ?

debian linux. no iptables rules. there's a squid proxy running on
there for http, but I can't see that should [a|e]ffect this?

FWIW I've seen this happen with various different hosts in the rtmp://
url.

have we any idea what geo-IP database the bbc use - is the behaviour
I'm seeing the same as would be for a non UK connection attempt? or do
those connections actually fail at the TCP connect stage?

thanks for your help

 RTMP is not RTSP - DESCRIBE is part of RTSP which was part of the
 protocol used with RealAudio.

ah, my bad.

 You used to make a mod to SBS to support a proxy - is the mod still
 there ?

that was needed when I had a work provided internet link that didn't
have outbound port 80 access allowed. I now have my own adsl line, that
has full outbound access allowed.

as per title, trying to use the listen again type functionality to hear
Brain of Britain from BBC Radio 4 doesn't appear to work, I get this
in the logs:

[10-01-16 21:36:28.7583] Plugins::BBCiPlayer::RTMP::processRTMP (885)

squeezebox server version is:
Version: 7.4.1 - r28947 @ Tue Oct 20 08:02:44 PDT 2009

BBC iPlayer version is v1.0.1

I get the exact same error for another 5 or so programs I tried to

 problem as they are having various issues. First, check that you can

Hi bpa,

I updated to v7.4.1 / v1.0.1 today in the hope that that would fix it.

works fine via web browser based iplayer...

Hi Triode,

I've cut pasted a few lines out of Slim/Formats/HTTP.pm in order to
gain proxy support, and all seems to be working perfectly.

In case you want to add this to the plugin here's the diff:

Code:

  /usr/local/slimserver/Plugins/BBCiPlayer# diff HTTP.pm HTTP.pm.matt
  9,11d8
   use Slim::Utils::Prefs;
   my $prefs = preferences('server');

 # Use full path for proxy servers
 my $proxy;

 if ( main::SLIM_SERVICE ) {
 # Let user specify their own proxy to use
 $proxy = $prefs-client($client)-get('webproxy');
 }
 else {
 $proxy = $prefs-get('webproxy');
 }

 if ( $proxy  $server !~ /(?:localhost|127.0.0.1)/ ) {
 $path = http://$server:$port$path;;
 }

thanks for this plugin - really appreciate it.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: AlienBBC v2.02 Beta1

2008-09-16 Thread MattC

many thanks to all the AlienBBC team for the new release.

one thing I have noticed post upgrade is that many (all?) of the listen
again urls now have a port number in them, eg:

rtsp://rmv8.bbc.net.uk:80/radio3/2110_sat.ra

IIRC this would have just been

rtsp://rmv8.bbc.net.uk/radio3/2110_sat.ra

in the previous version of AlienBBC. This leaves me a little stuck
when I use my squeezebox at work, as outbound port 80 is blocked there
in order to force us to use the corporate proxy. Without the port
number in the URL mplayer default to trying port 554 first which works
just fine for me.

is there an easy way around this?

thanks

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC ceased to work for me

2008-08-29 Thread MattC

when I was writing my php snippet to do the telnet to port 554 and get
the response in order to time it, I noticed that I got no response if I
sent the DESCRIBE line terminated with a \n\n it only worked from here
if I terminated the line with a \r\n\r\n

just thought I'd have a look in the Alien perl code, and I noticed in
line 26 of RTSPScanHeaders.pm the request is formed with a \n\n
termination. I've just changed this to the \r\n\r\n termination, and
all is working perfectly correctly here now.

I'm fascinated as to how this can only be affecting me though?

here's the diff:

Code:

  getz:/usr/local/slimserver/Plugins/Alien# diff RTSPScanHeaders.pm
RTSPScanHeaders.pm.orig
  26c26
 my $request = DESCRIBE $url RTSP/1.0\r\n\r\n;
  ---
 my $request = DESCRIBE $url RTSP/1.0\n\n;

many thanks to everyone for their help
Matt

it's very odd, the telnet and mplayer.sh always work straight off. The

[SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC ceased to work for me

2008-08-27 Thread MattC

hi,

I wonder if anyone can help, AlienBBC seems to have stopped working for
me.

squeezecenter 7.1, with Alien 2.01b (with the iPlayer v5 bits), mplayer
1.0rc2-4.1.2 on linux

eg trying to play radio 4 through the squeezebox, I get this in the
log:

Code:

  [08-08-27 11:34:36.8449] Slim::Networking::Async::connect (117) Connecting to

as you can see from the last 2 lines my current radio connect timeout
is 60 secs - I've just upped this from 40 secs which was absolutely
fine before.

is well:

Hi bpa,

I gave this some thought, but AFAIK nothing has changed. we used the
squeezebox to listen to the today program at breakfast one morning, no
problem. tried the same the next (and subsequent) morning, and
couldn't seem to get anything - had to revert to the Roberts Radio on
FM ;-)

thanks

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC addon to read iPlayer menus

2008-08-08 Thread MattC

hi bpa,

forgot to say a big thank-you in my previous post for all your hard
work on AlienBBC, and also thanks for your speedy response to my
post

bpa;327244 Wrote:
 I think this is one instance and not an indication that BBC is treating
 RealAudio as 2nd Class service.

in some ways maybe, but from using the iPlayer in my browser, they seem
to be treating RealAudio as the Dial-Up Modem option, so presumably if
the MP3 is higher bandwidth it should be higher quality, which would be
nice?

bpa;327244 Wrote:

 The MP3 streams are UK only

this seems a bit odd in one way, in as much as if they are happy to
deliver the RealAudio stream anywhere geographically, that implies they
are happy to let the actual programme content be delivered anywhere
geographically, so why not let the MP3 stream be delivered anywhere?

bpa;327244 Wrote:

(if I had the ability) the incentive to me would be to reverse engineer
it for the potential quality improvement and choice where there are
issues like the one I experienced where I couldn't actually hear what
I wanted to. incidentally that was the first programme I tried after
we'd listened again to the Archers, so pretty bad luck ;-(

bpa;327244 Wrote:

 Given the restrictions and the breaches in terms of use, I feel a
 solution cannot be provided publicly and so it is not worthwhile
 persuing this approach.

 As BBC says RealAudio will still be provided - AlienBBC will have to
 stay with this format.

I understand totally what you're saying, but am really frustrated that
the BBC could not have architected this in a more open way for those
who don't wish to use a browser based plugin to listen to their
content.

thanks again
Matt

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC addon to read iPlayer menus

2008-08-08 Thread MattC

bpa;327244 Wrote:
 To play theMP3 stream through squeezecenter requires the following:
 1. If user is not UK based - a UK proxy to handle a subset of bbc.co.uk
 addresses. This probably violates terms of use with BBC.
 2. A copy of mozilla plugin for Flashplayer for your platform
 3. A mozilla Plugin wrapper which can be used to set up stream decode
 and direct to a false audio output which can be captured. Currently the
 only wrapper (NSPLUGINWRAPPER) that could work is only available on
 Linux using ALSA. This will violate Adobe terms of use.

thinking about this, perhaps we should ask the bbc really nicely if
they could provide some pre-compiled binary command-line programs for
the common platforms that take an iplayer URL as an argument and then
chuck the audio stream to stdout so we could call this binary instead
of mplayer and life would be good (provided you're in the UK)?

thanks

 AFAICT that is only for the iPlayer 1.0 video as the streaming audio

my understanding was that the MP3 streams currently in use for iPlayer
radio were transported using the RTMPS (ie a flash) protocol. The link
I mentioned touched upon two open source RTMP client implementations,
which although works in progress could provide the necessary to get us
access to the MP3 streams...?

 I prefer to wait an see how AAC+ pans out.

is it not quite likely that if/when the bbc start using aac+ it will
also be transported over RTMP?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC addon to read iPlayer menus

2008-08-07 Thread MattC

I've finally today updated to squeezecenter 7.1 (22170), and alienBBC
2.01, with Addon V3 for iPlayer.

I appreciate that the bbc are regularly changing things at the moment,
but I had a problem tonight, and dig a bit of digging which I thought
might be useful.

If I go to Home Alien BBC BBC iPlayer Radio All BBC Radio 4
and select Archive Hour - Sat, 02 Aug 2008

I get the following message on the squeezebox

error: No items found in playlist
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/playlists/s7/qs/c0/0b/1900_bbc_radio_fourfm.ram

and indeed if I wget that file on my server, or download via my browser
it's zero sized.

If I go to my browser on my laptop and go to the iPlayer site, and
select the same article all works fine. however I don't have real
player installed on my laptop.

If I look in my squid proxy logs I can see this http request:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/4/mtis/stream/b00csq7s

and if I look at that URL I see this:

   mediaSelection

   media kind=audio type=audio/mpeg encoding=mp3
 connection priority=10 kind=akamai server=cp48186.edgefcs.net
 identifier=mp3:secure/radio4/RBN2_2000_sat_b00csq7s_2008_08_02_20_12_50
 authString=daEbgbwc6aWb6bbbvcocYdfblbJdodHaFbv-biM228-cCp-HonFInEoNCoFoyG/
 /media

   media kind=audio type=audio/real encoding=real
 connection priority=10 kind=sis server=http://www.bbc.co.uk;
 identifier=/radio/aod/playlists/s7/qs/c0/0b/1900_bbc_radio_fourfm
 href=http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/playlists/s7/qs/c0/0b/1900_bbc_radio_fourfm.ram/
 /media

 /mediaSelection

so it looks like there's a choice of mp3 or real, but that the real
stream is broken?

a netstat on my laptop (whilst the iPlayer is in action) shows a
connection to 84.53.177.156:https (cp48186.edgefcs.net resolves to a
couple of IP addresses of which that is one)

but I'm not sure quite how the full URL is built up, or how the
authString is used.

is anyone looking into using these https/mp3 streams via the iPlayer
addon for AlienBBC?

 is there any more information I can give that would be of help?

thanks
Matt
