Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Annouce: Squeeze Control, a squeezebox remote app, is now available for Android
I changed my router, the new one is up and running. My mobile is connected to the outer. My pCp is ethernet connected to the router. I can see LMS on my main computer. What I can't get to work is the LMS server in Squeeze Control. It actually showed the correct server name in server settings, but reported repeatedly that it can't connect to server. I had it look for a new server, it was showing correct server name. After that bit of work with server settings, it just stopped working. I try to start it, and immediately get an android message that Squeeze Control keeps stopping. Can't even get into it to try and fix. What to do? Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Annouce: Squeeze Control, a squeezebox remote app, is now available for Android
There is odd behaviour happening that I haven't noticed before. I've not made any changes to preferences. If I have something playing on my Touch, and then my mobile blanks after a few minutes, when I bring it back SC defaults to a different player. For example, my Radio, which is turned off so no now-playing is shown. I have to reselect the Touch to get control back. And a few minutes later repeat. "Now playing at show " is selected in general preferences, but when the Touch is reselected, it doesn't go to now playing. Can you help? Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Annouce: Squeeze Control, a squeezebox remote app, is now available for Android
I'm having some difficulty with search, particularly with song search. For instance, if I search songs for "crazy", I get a timeout saying list can't be retrieved. I was looking for covers of that Brenda Lee song, and at one point saw that there were 186 items, but never got the list. Other song searches with fewer target items work, as do searches for albums or artists. When I do that search, it generally results in an app failure, requiring a reboot. Any suggestions? R. Unfortunately, I don't think these are solutions. The disconnect from the current player, and reversion to the default player, happens instantly, as soon as there is navigation away from the focus on the current player. If I minimize to check email, if I let it sit long enough for the pre-set sleep to happen, whatever. The instant the the focus is away from the current player, everything reverts to the default. Of course, I maintain my mobile at current-version. I don't think it's an Android issue. One of the reasons is that the problem seems to arise only with SqueezeCntrl. I bought Orange Squeeze years ago, still installed, although I much prefer SqueezeCntrl, including that it's still supported (thank you, thank you, thank you). I decided to fire up Orange Squeeze, and it stlll works fine, aside from its faults. It never lost focus on the current player at all. On my mobile I'm using it with SqueezePlayer, without problem, as there are no problems with using it on other secondary players. So, I'm kind of at a loss. The issue really does much reduce my listening enjoyment. It's quite possible, perhaps probably, that there is something I could do to solve the problem, something I'm currently doing wrong, but I just don't know what it could be. R. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Annouce: Squeeze Control, a squeezebox remote app, is now available for Android
There has recently (within the last few months) been an annoying new behavior in SqueezeCntrl. I have specified my transporter as the primary player for the system, but sometimes use a Touch, and often use SBPlayer (for headphone listening mainly). The irritation is that when I'm using, say, the Touch, and the mobile goes to sleep, or I navigate to email or something, when I next go to SqueezeCntrl it has defaulted to the Transporter, and I have to go through the routine of re-selecting the Touch in order to get any control, or to see what's currently playing, etc. Same thing happens with SBPlayer. Meanwhile, the music continues to play. You'd think that when you go back to SqueezeCntrl, it would display the currently playing title without my having to route back through the player selection. Odd. Perhaps there is an obvious fix. If so, please tell! Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Annouce: Squeeze Control, a squeezebox remote app, is now available for Android
I posted this in the Windows UWP thread, wrong place. So re-posting here: SqueezeCntrl has started to revert to the primary player when the Android device has blanked screen or gone to sleep. My main player is a Transporter; a secondary player is a Touch. I often use the Touch for close listening away from the rest of the family. When I select the Touch and am listening to music, my mobile (on which SqueezeCntrl is located) will after a few minutes blank screen or go to sleep. When I start it up, SC has reverted to the default player, the Transporter, and I have to re-select the Touch, go to My Music and select the current track to get back to where I need to be. This is quite annoying. What can I do to fix? I can't seem to find anything in the controls. I, too, tried the Angry Goat info address, and got the "can't connect" message. Hmm. Very odd. I'm using 7.9 and have never tweaked those settings in any version. I didn't change any default settings on SBP when I installed it. All other sample rates work fine on SBP, and all sample rates (including 48) work fine on other players, including the emulator SqueezePlay on my Surface4. It's only 48 on SBP that is a problem. Perhaps I have an older version of SBP. I'll check the store and install a newer one if available. I'll also check the server settings just to be sure, but I can't imagine there is anything untoward there under the circumstances. Is it possible that the particular mobile I have is the problem? Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Annouce: SB Player, a software Squeezebox player app for Android.
Some additional info. My mobile has a Qualcom 2.5 ghz quad core processor (Experia V3 Compact). SBP easily accommodates my few 96 khz files, but chokes on 48, reporting an unsupported sample rate. In SBP settings, it's reported that the native sampling rate of the device is 48; since almost all of my music is 44.1, I left that as the default setting. I haven't tried resetting to 48 since that would require resampling of almost everything except for the recent eMusic downloads. So I really don't understand the issue here. Help appreciated. I was all set to listen to a new album, Shine A Light by Billy Bragg and Joe Henry. Purchased from eMusic.com. Got the message "unsupported sample rate". It's a 320kbps album but as it turns out at an unconventional sample rate of 48 kHz. Unconventional but not unheard of, and eMusic is pretty mainstream. What's the story here? Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Annouce: Squeeze Control, a squeezebox remote app, is now available for Android
Surely there is a difference between "going into the background" when you have selected a song to listen to and then gone on to do other things on the mobile, pending the need to select another song, and "going into the background" when no music is currently being played and the connected player is just quiescent? The former is not a case of "nothing to do". Perhaps there could be some logic that left the app "on" and pointed to the last selected player, until some period of inactivity on the app had passed. The default for this quiescent period should be longer than the standard album length. I think this would be particularly useful when the mobile is being used as the player, as in SB Player. If you are listening via the mobile, you are probably doing something else on it as well, and it's just very annoying to have to navigate through the menus to get back to SB Player when the playlist ends. I appreciate the battery-saving feature of the current arrangement, and the fact that you can choose to leave it running in the background, thereby avoiding the problem, but don't think that this is always the user-friendly way. As to the point of a default player, of course that is a good thing to have, but using a different player from time to time is the norm, and not outlier-behavior. R. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Annouce: Squeeze Control, a squeezebox remote app, is now available for Android
I generally love Squeeze Control, but am quite frustrated by some app behaviour. In particular, when I am playing something and navigate away to do something else while listening and then go back to the app, it ALWAYS returns to the default player, even when that one is not active and turned off. For instance, I've been using SB Player to listen via headphones, I go out to read something on the Web and then return to SC, it opens with the Transporter, my default, and shows whatever was last playing on the TP as "Now Playing". SBP is still actually playing, the TP is off and I have to go through the routine of rechoosing SBP to see the correct.playlist or choose new music, etc. Is this a feature or a bug? Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Jazz FM changed again!
This is kind of off-topic, but I have always found the references to Jazz FM to be confusing. As it turns out, this is because there are two discrete and separate stations using the same name. JazzFM in Toronto is at 91.1 on the radio dial, and online. It's a non-profit operation, with an extensive educational programming and only 4 minutes of advertising an hour. Excellent station. See http://www.jazz.fm/index.php/about-mainmenu-131/about-jazzfm91-mainmenu-132. Then there is the other JazzFM, which doesn't seem to have a live broadcast, but whose website is at www.jazzfm.com. It's complicated by the fact that BOTH have an evening program called Dinner Jazz. When I listened to the radio in my car (before flash drives), I listened to the Toronto station all the time.
