Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] ANNOUNCE: Alexa voice control (development thread)
I'm in the UK and I'd love to get involved with testing if you're still looking for new people. I have 3x Classics, 1x Radio and 1x Touch, plus occasionally use my iPad via iPeng. I have two Echo dots (in rooms that have squeezeboxes). One of the SBs is called "Cinema" which I don't think you have listed yet, but I can rename it if necessary. Not sure if it's relevant but I'm running the LMS on a Windows Home Server 2011 machine. Thanks for helping to keep Squeezebox alive! Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Sporadic MusicinfoSCR / Titleswitcher problem
When I first reported the issue I seemed to be getting log messages even when it wasn't working. In the last two experiments, I don't seem to get anything from those two plugins until they spring into life. The Plugins::TitleSwitcher::Plugin::getTitleFormat (200) Returning log entry seems to be displayed first at 2347, so I believe this is when the info line started displaying correctly. -- SadGamerGeek 3x Classic | 1x Touch | 1x Radio | SBS on WHS | iPeng HD SqueezePad SadGamerGeek's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6145 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91416 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] MusicInfoSCR 4.3 - now with theOriginal Boom Booklet Layout
Hi Michael, I started a new thread a few days ago about a sporadic problem I'm having using MusicInfoSCR with TitleSwitcher: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91416 After reading the previous page in this thread, it looks like I'm getting exactly the same problem as wonder boy mentioned. It is fixed by me going to the Player-MusicInfoSCR tab in the web browser (just selecting the tab - no need to change anything). It happens quite frequently to me but I'm not sure what pattern is yet. My server is set to go to sleep with no activity so it might relate to coming out of hibernation. Is there anything I can do to help analysis of the problem? -- SadGamerGeek 3x Classic | 1x Touch | 1x Radio | SBS on WHS | iPeng HD SqueezePad SadGamerGeek's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6145 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=53347 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Sporadic MusicinfoSCR / Titleswitcher problem
On playing a track just now, the TitleSwitcher display was broken again. I can confirm that simply switching to the Player - Music Info screen in the web interface immediately fixes it though. I can't remember where the actual log file gets stored on the server, but I've attached a copy paste of the last 2000 lines from the web link - hopefully that will be enough. I started playing at 2344 (broken) and switched to Player - Music Info tab at 2347 (so this is the time it started working). If that's too vague I'm sure I can do the experiment again and try to get timings to the second. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Sporadic MusicinfoSCR / Titleswitcher problem
I'm wondering if something has changed since I entered those format lines (a long time ago), meaning something in them is now causing this sporadic problem. This is the main string that used to parse OK in TitleSwitcher but it now rejects (even though it still displays, albeit sporadically):* ALBUM:4 ,PLAYTIME / SONGTIME Track X_OF_Y ,ARTIST:4* After much trial and error I've managed to create an equivalent format that TitleSwitcher accepts: ALBUM:4 ,\ \PLAYTIME / SONGTIME\ TRACK \X_OF_Y\ \,ARTIST:4 The strange thing is, MusicInfoSCR (when selecting live data preview) likes the first string (that TitleSwitcher rejects), but just shows a blank for the new one that TitleSwitcher likes! In fact, I can't get any TitleSwitcher strings to work at all in MusicInfoSCR now, other than the original one. I created this simple one called ALBUM_ARTIST as a test: ALBUM,ARTIST When I select it in MusicInfoSCR, it shows nothing in the live data preview, and the SB3 reverts to showing Now Playing in the top line. Here's what the log looks like with that selected: Code: [11-11-12 22:53:53.7385] Plugins::MusicInfoSCR::Info::getFormatString (331) MusicInfoSCR: there seems to be nothing left... Thanks for your thoughts Erland. All my SB3's are wireless so I guess they could be losing connection, though my Kitchen one (the one I use most) is in the same room as the access point and generally shows a wireless strength of at least 90%. [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPlayer problems recently - bad file descriptor
I love BBC iPlayer but I've been having lots of problems with my install of it recently. I use it exclusively for R4 Listen Again, but I'm finding it very hard to get my selected programmes to play. It will show connecting or sometimes nothing in the status area, then frequently timed out waiting for data or nothing. These are the two main errors I see in the log (mostly the second): Code: [11-07-07 20:21:33.1252] Slim::Utils::Scanner::Remote::__ANON__ (240) Error: Can't connect to remote server to retrieve playlist for, http://wm-acl.bbc.co.uk/wms2/radio4fmcoyopa/radio_4_fm_-_thursday_1700.wma: Timed out waiting for data. I've tried lots of programmes and they all do the same thing. After many, many attempts it will sometimes start, but it rarely makes it all the way through a long (over 30 minutes) programme. When I paste the relevant URL into a web browser it starts quickly and plays without issue. I run a recent-ish 7.60 build on Windows Home Server on an Intel machine. It is hard wired to a router from which I get 3-4Mb download with no connection problems. I'm in the UK. I get the problems from my SB3 SBR. Some possibly relevant parameters are: Radio Station Timeout - 20 seconds. Maximum WMA Stream Bitrate - No Limit Radio Station Buffer Seconds - 5 Can anyone suggest what might be happening? Home-server is running and the machine running muso can see it (its possible the machine running SC can see it yet the machine running muso cannot?). Ooops! The folder wasn't accessible to my laptop! I've sorted that now and run another scan with v1.0.11. It shows 9045 songs scanned and 8255 songs added - very close to Squeezecenter's view of 8276 songs. It looks very nice, but when I browse by artist, I only seem to get a tiny proportion of the actual artists I expect This is the case for artists with and without full albums. 1.0.6 has sorted out the situation with not scanning enough tracks for me. It now scans all my tracks, but for some reason it still doesn't add any of them to its database - it finishes with: 9069 songs parsed, 0 new songs added, 0 songs updated, 0 errors ... so it still shows 0 for Tracks, Full Albums, Album Artists and Total Artists. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: muso (beta)
Looking promising but not working for me as yet. I'm running 7.3 on Windows Home Server, running the client (v1.0.5) on XP Home. My Library size is as follows: Total Tracks: 8,276 Total Albums: 647 Total Artists: 316 Total Genres: 76 I've opened up the relevant port and made the file change to allow access from a different box. It can see my Squeezebox 3s, so that's good. When I do an Import from SC though, it says: Code: Completed SqueezeCenter Scan: 791 songs parsed, 0 new songs added, 0 songs updated, 0 errors My Music database show as 0 for everything after the scan. As you can see, my library is over 10 times that size. They are almost all FLAC, though it is possible that maybe 791 is the number of non-FLAC tracks (though that is a complete guess). What appears to be the relevant part of the log file is: Code: 1: [ 2.405] [0.547] SqueezeCenter.ScanDatabase 1: [ 0.102] [0.078] . ScanDatabase: Connecting to Port=9092;Server=home-server;User Id=slimserver;Password=;Database=slimserver;Pooling=False 1: [ 0.251] [0.250] . Just a couple of other points: 1. Import doesn't look clickable. I think this would be more obvious as a button. 2. Some SB users may be put off by your use of a Logitech logo for Players (doesn't bother me though) Hope it all helps! -- SadGamerGeek SadGamerGeek's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6145 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=57629 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

Well I'm not sure if this was fixed in the latest TS or MusicInfoSCR, but it is working a treat for me after updating all my plugins. I've spent a bit more time playing around with it and I now have what is the perfect (to me) display on my SB3s. If anyone's interested, I settled on this at the top left via Title Switcher: Album : ALBUM:5,Artist : ARTIST:5,Track : X_OF_Y:3 ... with just the track name at bottom left and PLAYTIME / SONGTIME at the top right. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Title Switcher for switching texts on player display
This is fantastic - exactly the sort of thing I'd been hoping for! I'm very happily using it now, and it is much better not having to crowd Artist and Album on the top line now. There are a couple of things I've noticed that I'd like some help on if possible I'd quite like to be able to use a colon in the format. I initially set up some formats like this- Album: ALBUM Title: TITLE until I realised that this wouldn't be possible due to the use of the colon. I've now changed this to a hyphen, but I think a colon would look a little better. Would it be possible to perhaps have an option specify the character used on a later release? The other thing is it seems to get a little confused by Podcasts. I've defined a format of TOPLINE (Album- ALBUM:10,Artist- ARTIST:5,Track X_OF_Y:3) which works a treat for normal music, but when I play a podcast the area in question permanently shows _MIS_REMOTE_TITLESWITCHERTOPLINE. I guess most of the elements used don't make sense for a podcast, but I assumed the would mean they'd just get ignored. On that subject, does anyone know which elements are relevant to podcasts? -- SadGamerGeek SadGamerGeek's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6145 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=55240 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Lazy Search Music Plugin v2.3 Released
SamS;201675 Wrote: Hi Stuart, I downloaded your Lazy Search plugin and enjoyed your informative website about the feature. I am feeling really stupid, but I have to ask: when I used Lazy Search, I type the number keys on the remote, but only numbers show up and are searchable. No letters, even with multiple presses of the buttons. What am I doing wrong? (Hope you don't mind me answering this, Stuart) Hi Sams, The behaviour you describe is the way Lazy Search is intended to work. In fact, if it worked by cycling through the letters with each key press, that would be no different to the standard search functionality. The whole point of LazySearch is it cuts down the number of key presses required for a search by working a bit like predictive text on a mobile phone. As an example, say I was looking for a song containing the word five. Using traditional search (that rotates through each letter on a button per keypress), after selecting search and song, I'd press the following sequence of keys: 3,3,3 (f) 4,4,4 (i) 8,8,8 (v) 3,3 (e) That's 11 key presses Using lazy search, I can just press: 3,4,8,3 That's 4 key presses - quite a difference. The difference in usability (as you noticed) is that the display cannot show the letters that are being searched for, because that sequence covers a few combinations - each number represents 3 or 4 letters (that's why you just see the numbers on the screen). The vast majority of those combinations, though are very unlikely to retrieve any songs, as they don't make any sense (for the above numbers, it will also search for dgtd, egtd, fdgd etc.) Hope that helps. I guess Stuart could explain it much better! -- SadGamerGeek SadGamerGeek's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6145 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=29551 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

(From the web page) it would be good to have all the normal clients available, then an extra (virtual) Master one. All the individual settings from the real players would have one extra option (Use Master setting), and they would be set to this option by default. This would allow all the house-wide settings to be defined in the Master player, but any SB specific ones to override this. Firstly, does anyone else think this would be a good way to do it? The bandwidth option is supposed to mimic the RealPlayer Turboplay option but i think there is a problem. Basically the bandwidth option enabled mplayer to receive a lot of data as fast as possible but the problem is the mplayer only processes it in RealTime - what happens is the TCP connected thinks some of the data downloaded has been lost as it is only acknowledged when it is played and this can take minutes. When this happens TCP reset the link.I think one way to resolve the issue is to get the right value for bandwidth depending on the user's broadband connection. Ahh OK. I reckon I'll have to the same for this bug ( as well as why R4 LW doesn't work). Fair enough. On your VIA system - are you running Windows ? No, Linux Fedora FC5 (very minimal install). [SlimDevices: Plugins] LastFM - can't suss out best way to skip/love/ban from SB
Hi there, I love the funtionality of the LastFM plugin, but I'm struggling a bit on the best way to control it from my Squeezebox (3). I'm running 6.5b3 (haven't got round to installing the official new released version yet - not sure if there's much difference) on Linux Fedora FC5. I installed the vey latest version of the plugin yesterday, but somehow the access to skip/ban/love via the remote control doesn't seem too obvious to me now. It seemed pretty intuitive on the previous release, so I'm guessing I may not have set something up properly for this updated version. I use a now playing screensaver of Now Playing (jump back on wake). I always get there, but it seems to take me a few button presses to actually find the love/ban/skip options and I can't quite work out the logic of it. It generaly seems to involve pressing the left button (when LastFM showing on the screen), followed immediately by the right to get the song title back! I have also tried the button maps suggested elsewhere to make use of holding down the up/down/right buttons, but this only seems to work for me when a screensaver has kicked in. Could someone please what should be the quickest combinations of keypresses to get the required actions? Sorry to be dim! [SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: LastFM - can't suss out best way to skip/love/ban from SB
One other thing! LastFM on my SB seems to just stop reasonably often (perhaps an average of once an hour..) I assume this isn't normal? It seems quite a struggle to get it to start up again after this. I'll press play in LastFM to start it, but it generaly just sits at the Now Playing (Connecting) screen forever. Once this happens I can normally only get it to reconnect by restarting SlimServer itself. I have the plugin debugging value set, but can't see anything that seems to relate to the LastFM client stopping. Any help gratefuly received. [SlimDevices: Plugins] LazySearch - some artists show Empty
First of all, thanks a million for LazySearch - it is one of the best plugins around! I wonder if you could tell me if what I am experiencing is expected behaviour from the plugin? There are some artists that will be found via an artist search, but will then show Empty when I use the right button to show albums by that artist. An example: I do a song search for word race, and find The Race by Yello I do an artist search and find Yello. I press right for a list of albums and just get Empty I have found lots of other similar examples to this. Interestingly some of the artists that appear in LazySearch seem a little strange, such as Additional Lyrics by Madonna. This is another one that shows Empty for albums. I have done a delete rescan of my music database, and have followed that by a forced rebuild of the Lazy indexes, but this doesn't change the situation. I'm using SS 6.5b3 on Fedora FC5 Linux with (what I believe is) the most recent Lazy Search plugin. My clients are squeezebox 3s. Any ideas? [SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: AlienBBC - plays for a while then stops
I've removed the -bandwidth parameter from the config file tried again. It played all the way though PM (1 hour) with no problems! This is the first time I've ever been able to play any listen again program longer than about 20 minutes without problems. This does seem to have a side effect though. The squeezebox display is very stuttering in updating the visualisation time when it is playing this. It seems to only manage to refresh the display about every second or so. The mplayer info update was also very sporadic. Also, the squeezebox buffer seemed to be permanently almmost empty (10) while playing. Still - seems like an improvement! I guess the next thing is to put -bandwidth back in with different values. [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC - plays for a while then stops
Hi there. I'm running SS 6.5b 8467 on Linux Fedora FC5, with the newly released AlienBBC 1.05 (for 6.5). My mplayer is 1.0pre8-4.1.1, and it correctly identifies my CPU. I'm streaming wirelessly to a Squeezebox 3 (FW 58). I've been having some problems with streaming BBC listen again programs. For instance, when playing PM today, it stopped at 23:13 and 39:50. When this happens I can get it going again by pressing play and fast forwarding, but I'd like to get to the bottom of the problem. Here's how the log looks each time: Code: Streaming: Launching mplayer -really-quiet -vc null -vo null -bandwidth 1000-cache 128 -af volume=0,resample=44100:0:1,channels=2 -ao pcm:nowaveheader:file =/dev/fd/3 rtsp://rmv8.bbc.net.uk/radio4/pm/pm_tue.ra?start=00:22:01.0 MPlayer 1.0pre8-4.1.1 (C) 2000-2006 MPlayer Team CPU: VIA Nehemiah (Family: 6, Model: 9, Stepping: 1) CPUflags: MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 0 3DNow2: 0 SSE: 1 SSE2: 0 mplayer: could not connect to socket mplayer: No such file or directory Does this sound like an mplayer problem? I never really got a chance to try this until now, as I went for the 6.5 builds pretty much from the start. I've now installed it, and I can't praise it highly enough. It is just *so* much faster to find anything using this. Thanks for the fantastic plugin! Triode Wrote: I see you have sql debugging on to - could you turn this off? I don't have SQL logging turned on, but maybe I've been confusing things by posting the output of /tmp/slimserver.log. I assumed this was the same as the output given in http://musicserver:9000/log.txt, but I now see that the web log doesn't show any SQL. I will use that log from now on (where is it held in the filesystem?). Do you get the same figure every time for this, or is it dependant on disk spin ups etc? I think the times vary quite a bit. If I retry an operation it is normaly much better (and may not freeze at all). I always assumed this was due to MySQL caching the relevant rows/tables. I'm afraid I don't know if disk spin up times are affecting this. My server is nowhere near the client, and even then, the power supply in the server (soon to be replaced) is so loud I can't really guage what the disk is doing. I wouldn't have thought I'd given the disk time to spin down, but can't say for sure. Unfortunately all the Alien BBC streaming stations (except Virgin) seem to be broken in the latest 6.5 build (discussed in another posting), so this has significantly limited the testing I can now do. As Virgin still works, I've done another test with that. Interestingly I just managed to get an All Songs list without a freeze. As this is just streaming MP3, maybe it is a little more tolerant (though I have previously had problems with Virgin). I'm still running it as cut-down as possible, with no X-Windows. I then jumped straight into an install of the latest (8199 - 29/06) 6.5 beta, which went in with no problems. The good news is that things definately seem better - Most of the time selecting Albums or Artists on the web page doesn't interrupt a radio station now. Unfortunately All Songs does cause the Squeezbox to freeze, but for a shorter time than before Top indicates these freezes/silences are still related to the CPU maxing out. I can't help thinking that if the output could be returned to the web page a bit quicker the Squeezebox wouldn't exhaust its cache. I was hoping that the 512MB of memory I now have would ensure my database (for just 6,000 songs) could reside in memory give super-fast access. Unfortunately this cannot be the case. Is there any way I can persuade MySQL to make better use of memory? Any other suggestions gratefuly received. Could it be worth raising a bug for this maybe? Is this the sort of problem that is fixed by the split scanner functionality in the new 6.5 version? If so, I'm tempted to upgrade, but I guess it depends on how stable the beta version currently is (especialy as this gets used by the girlfriend.) I have a Squeezebox 3 I'm at work at the mo, so don't have any URLs, but the Virgin station is the standard one that shows the AM/FM frequencies in the description. I have also tried this with Radio 4 live streaming, and it has exactly the same problem. Just to confirm, this happens with all AlienBBC streamed stations I have tried. Any help much appreciated.
