[SlimDevices: Plugins] Spotifys Complete Collection - possible?
Hi, Spotify has this very cool addon called The Complete Collection, which essentially is complete CD-booklets browsable (and of course playable) through their client. Something like this would be infinitely cool and useful to have in the Squeezebox-system. I couldnt find any info, but I'm guessing Spotify has an agreement with the rightholders - and thus it would not be straightforward to adapt, but is there any info out there? Erland, I've obviously only tested the updated plugin very little so far, but all indicators are pointing right towards the sky :) In addition to acknowledging the various sources, its also useful [I suppose] to see that the new sources are contributing so much to the much improved hitrate. I'll spend some more time using it, and report back with more details if needed. Anyway. I am really greatful for this* I have been seriously contemplating, and also somewhat started, the process of manually scanning or downloading lyrics, saving them in text-files, and using the fileviewer plugin for accessing them through the various SB-UIs. I suppose this somewhat illustrates my appreciation of this work since the size of my library is approaching 2K albums. Is it in the list of recommended plugins. [SlimDevices: Plugins] Erland: Lyrics plugin
Hi all, The lyrics plugin is IMO the coolest non-essential (as opposed to playing music) feature - together with mherger's AlbumReview and Biography. Or I could say that it is showcasing the true potential and advantage of computer based playback :) But the hit-rate is very low for me. Wonder if anything could be done to improve this. I suspect there are legal issues involved, but don't really know any details at all. I only know that other software achieve much better hitrates. E.g. the iSub-app for the iPhone. -- bhaagensen bhaagensen's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7418 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=82877 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

A number of streaming applications use caching in various incarnations including persistent storage. Moreover, some let the user decide which files to cache... Very nice erland (again). I guess it could be an idea to have two 'modes'. One random when used as a screensaver. And another not-random for use when browsing. In the latter case obviously some optimisation is needed in order to make it more useful. Its probably never going to be as fast as say the regular album browsing method. The whole of the rest of the slimserver directory tree is root:root. Should that not also be slimserver:root to maybe avoid future problems with other plugins? Sorry your reasoning, while somewhat logical, is too simplified... and wrong :) Just at look at the owner of all files in /usr/bin. Basically the /usr/share/Slimserver directory should only be owned by root and only writable by root. slimserver should have appropriate read/execute permissions. The location of writable user data is configurable (by default /var/cache/slimserver). It's a bit of a long story. If you're interested I can try to elaborate but... I think the problem with AlienBBC is mostly due to a bug in the AlienBBC package. I can find no user called slimserver on my system so it doesn't appear to have been created. Are you sure? slimserver is not a regular user account. It's basically a non-interactive user with no login shell. All is ok if 'cat /etc/passwd|grep slim' returns something. Obviously something went wrong in the install, is it worth uninstalling and trying again? If so, what is the preferred method? Should I download the .deb package and run that or should I use apt-get? From what I've read I see no indication that something is wrong with your installation. apt-get is the same as installing the deb, with the addition that it automatically fetches the deb file if you added the repo. to /etc/apt/sources.list. Then all tracks are displayed by the name [PLAYTIME] Can this be verified by others, or do I need to dig deeper? -- bhaagensen bhaagensen's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7418 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35733 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

For menus created through Multi Library plugin you should instead use the Show in home menu option which is available in the configuration page for each library in the Multi Library plugin. Now the library is displayed the right place, but it is empty. Multi library feature req: 4. When using the mixers from the SB, would it be possible to show an intermediate menu showing the mix after a mixer have been chosen ? Alternatively just ask wether to play the mix, similar to the default behavior for music magic. Custom browse feature req: 5. On the bottom of the browse pages the standard menu has links for going to the next pages. With custom browse one has to scroll back to the top of the page. I can't think of more right now, but I'm sure I have more questions and comments since this is a very large extension(-system). And it's working impressively well. [SlimDevices: Plugins] Problems setting up Multi Library
Hi, I've tried setting up multi library and it appears to be working, except only a single album show up in the library. I've set it up to include by comment. I had no problems prior to installing multi library (together with most of the other plugins from erland). Also the albums which should have been appearing in the new library does show up in all the default browse menues provided by custombrowse and also in the slimserver menus. The only clue I have is that while my music is organised under $HOME/Music/Artist/Album/, but the particular albums which works is in $HOME/Music/Album Thanks for any advice. -- bhaagensen bhaagensen's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7418 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35525 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

A bit strange. The changes to the slimserver script should not affect the the operation of slimserver in any way. Can you confirm that if you use the original script, slimserver starts correctly? STATUS=`ps -e | grep $PROGRAM | grep -v grep | wc -l | awk '{print $1}'` (I guess this is identifying whether MMS is currently running?) Yes, that's the idea. Try substituting '-e' with 'aux'. I've noticed that on my computer it seems that if MIP is running issuing 'MusicMagicServer start' detects this and does not try restarting MIP, so the test should be unessecary. You could try removing it, which would leave only USER=diana PROGRAM=MusicMagicServer ( sudo -u $USER -H $PROGRAM start ) sleep 10 I added the sleep to make sure that MIP is up before starting slimserver. It could probably be shorter than 10 s. And if you care: STATUS=`ps -e | grep $PROGRAM | grep -v grep | wc -l | awk '{print $1}'` works as follows. A | B sends the output of command A to the input of B. 'ps aux' lists all running processes. 'grep $PROGRAM' picks the lines where the string $PROGRAM occurs. Since 'grep $PROGRAM' is itself a program mentioning the string $PROGRAM, 'grep -v grep' removes the lines where the string grep occurs. 'wc -l' counts the number of newlines. 'awk {print $1}' makes sure that only an integer is finally output (for the comparison made later in the script). You can try it out in a terminal and see how it works. Start by: $ ps aux look for a program named e.g. NAME $ ps aux | grep NAME $ ps aux | grep NAME | grep -v NAME and so on... the line 'sudo -u USER -H $PROGRAM start' means that $PROGRAM should be started as $USER, '-H' means that it should also set $HOME to /home/$USER. The whole thing to make sure MIP pics up the analysis date and stuff genereted by $USER and stored in $HOME/.MusicMagic -- bhaagensen bhaagensen's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7418 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35443 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] SS + MusicIP - Ubuntu
A quick and (very) dirty fix could be the following: First of all I don't think you need to do anything special to set up MIP headless, I didn't. To test try starting MIP headless by typing 'MusicMagicServer start' in a terminal. If it's not in you're path, change to the directory where you have MIP installed and type './MusicMagicServer start', restart slimserver and see if that works. When/if that works go to the next stop. I'm assuming musicip is in your path so you can start musicmagic by typing 'MusicMagicServer start' in a terminal. Otherwise you need to substitute the full path e.g. /home/diana/MusipIP/MusicMagicServer for MusicMagicServer below. I'm also assuming your username on linux is 'diana' and that when you manually start musicip you are logged in as diana. Otherwise substitute as needed below. 1. Type 'gksudo gedit /etc/init.d/slimserver' in a terminal 2. After the line '# Updated By:Dan Sully' add the following lines USER=diana PROGRAM=MusicMagicServer STATUS=`ps -e | grep $PROGRAM | grep -v grep | wc -l | awk '{print $1}'` if [ $STATUS -eq 0 ] then ( sudo -u $USER -H $PROGRAM start ) sleep 10 else killall $PROGRAM sleep 10 ( sudo -u $USER -H MusicMagicServer start ) fi 3. Save the file and try restarting slimserver. I know it might sound terribly complicated but it isn't. The basic idea is that you figure out what you would write in a terminal to start MIP headless. This is then added to the file /etc/init.d/slimserver, which is the file which starts slimserver. If you run into problems just reply, and I'll try and walk you through. It's also a bit easier if I know more about the setup you have. -- bhaagensen bhaagensen's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7418 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=35443 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins

Like it or not, OS X's (now slightly dated) Aqua UI, Vista's Aero UI, the even more advanced accelerated X server from xorg, and the countless examples of modern web-designs and applications using rounded corners, glassy surfaces, transperancy, reflections, shadows and animations, must give some hints as to what a modern UI behaves and looks like. Compare that to the slimserver interface which bears more similarity to the application my bank accountant is using when calculating how much red ink is needed for our meetings. Add to the fact that the use of the afore mentioned effects seems to be particularly prevalent in the domain of multimedia applications, and I dare claim that I'd be pretty difficult to convince otherwise. I am quite sure that the current interface leaves much to be improved. Not saying that the UI should be some insane cryengine2 thingy. For the majority of my use cases a simple interface with a semantics that wifes, husbands, guests, and children can understand, and which makes some set of core functionalities available and presents them in a pretty way, is my whish. It's been said before, but candidates for such core functionality is, of course, playback control and along with that browsability of the music collection. I think that this, by far, is the best proposal for a up to date and modern UI look and feel. Fast, nice to look at, drag and drop :) I second the opinion of in a earlier post where it was suggested that future development could focus on improving usability (as opposed to fancy effects). I'm thinking of things like internet radio. Personally I also think that keeping it as (mainly) a playback interface could be an idea. Perhaps with some clever way of spawning the default interface for setup etc. PS. I had/have no objections towards the default interface, but after trying this I really think it improves the user experience.
