It's only there for the few who refuse to upgrade. Broken AAC transcoding has NOTHING to do with BBCiPlayer. You have at least 2 problems with AAC transcoding - probably some settings somewhere has been changed when they shouldnt' have been changed. AFAICT faad and flac work OK on your system but the transcoding process doesn't work so you get "end of file" error and zero bytes There is also a mystery why wasn't transcoding to Flac attempted. This needs thinking. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109826 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

To make sure not wasting your time, I have installed latest LMS (dated 4 Oct.) and latest BBC iplayer v1.4.10. I checked faad & flac as per your instructions screenshots attached. nig27 wrote: > It looks like it's looking for Lame to me. In this case the successful one is faad which will decode AAC to PCM (see aac->pcm in the log) . What is strange is no attempt on Flac. It is much better if you select the log as text rather than as screenshot as it imuch easier to read, search, and reuse. LMS provides a number support application to help trasnmcode. They are "standard" applications but some have been patched for LMS so no good to install from other sources. >From the log it appears the application are stored in "/Library/PreferencePane/Squeezebox.prefPane/Contents/server/Bin/darwin-x86_64" In that directory there should be a number of application including flac, faad, sox - you need to see if they run OK. LMS bundles applications with each release it is possible that 7.9.2 OSX applications do not run on 10.8.5 and you'll have to replace them with equivalent applications from an older LMS. I hope you're familiar with Terminal - I am not familiar with OSX so what I am suggesting is guesswork. 1. Open a Terminal 2. change directory to the application using "cd" - the command *cd /Library/PreferencePane/Squeezebox.prefPane/Contents/server/Bin/darwin-x86_64* 3. List off the cotents of the directory using "ls" - the command (all the *l* are lowercase letter ell not digit one 1 or vertical bar | ) *ls -l* 4. Assuming flac and faad arein the directory - try to run application - if it works they should produce a banner, otherwise an error. Command as follows - a dot and slash before the application filename *./faad ./flac* bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109826 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

It is unlikely to affect BBCiPlayer as the data feed is provided for 3rd parties and only 7 days. All the underlying program URL and strcutures are same as Sounds. Sounds seems to be oriented towards podcast so its possible audio quality will be reduced but I think that would be a step too far even for BBC. BBCIplayerExtar and access beyond 7 days will probaly be affected. I'm guessing this is more a cosmetic exercise - kill iPlayer Radio and so everybody has to use Sounds - so BBC can say "new BBC sounds is a great success - loads of people using it". bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109826 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer V1.6 (and higher) & BBCiPlayerExtra 2.0 (and higher) Support
After much tearing out of hair (and I can't afford to lose much more) I have resolved my issue starting new programmes on BBCiPlayer. This had been getting steadily worse, and had finally reached the stage where the connections were failing completely - and my head was firmly on the line (no Archers!). As a last resort, I compared the network config on my main PC with the config on the laptop I use for LMS. The culprit, as it turned out, was Wireshark (installed several weeks ago), which had installed NPCAP and associated NPCAP Loopback Adapter in to my network config. Much Googling of NPCAP found zillions of postings complaining of issues caused by NPCAP. An uninstall of NPCAP and much rebooting of devices and I've gone back from zero to hero. I suspect that a network expert would have known about this, and probably would never have installed it at all, but for those of us of a less technical bent this may prove a useful piece of information. I agree with you that it is likely that security software is the root of the problem, I am fairly convinced that it is at the root of the other LMS problems I am having. I've suddenly (i.e. today) started getting delays of about 15-20 seconds whenever I start a new BBC programme. Affects both Listen Again and Listen Live on R4 (and apparently all other channels) and all types of device (Radio, Boom, Classic). I note that I'm also getting timeouts on plugins (Bad repository http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/bpaplugins/betarelease-repo.xml - Connect timed out) although I did manage to update to BBCiPlayerExtra 3.2.0 this afternoon. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer V1.6 (and higher) & BBCiPlayerExtra 2.0 (and higher) Support
@paul.burden I booted an old XP laptop with a Pentium M 1.7 which is roughly same as your processor. Before the LMS July 2018 patch and plugin 1.6.* - the BBC live station would always show symptoms you describe - long pause and then stop/start playback before running smoothly and requires the "delay" setting to be 1-2 minutes. It's been a while since I booted the laptop so I had to instal latest LMS nightly and 1.6.7 and set BBCiPlayer setting delay is "none" and tested on an SB Receiver so transcoding is required. - BBC live playback is practically instant and no stop/start. The first "Live" station to play had a slight initial pause of about 3-5 secs. But subsequent plyaback of station had no pause - so I put this down to Windows caching faad.exe & flac.exe needed for trasncoding. So, in summary - the symptoms are of a system that is either not up of date somewhere (or perhaps an old cached version is being used) or else something is messing with the internet streams (e.g. security s/w). bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109826 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Yes My gut feel is the dual core processor but I have to dig up an old XP laptop to confirm. There was a LMS Windows bug which was main reason for delay on most Windows platforms which was present up to 7.9.1 Jul 2018 In terms of settings I'd use DASH rather than HLS - so preference is best with DASH > HLS > MP3 > FlashAAC. There is definitely no FlashMP3 anymore and probably no FlashAAC either. On some system the hiccough can be reduced by setting the "delay to start live stream" to something like 30 sec or more possibly 1 or 2 minutes - the value is system dependent. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109826 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

The plugin doesn't store any data from users, nor any of their usage nor any of the media streamed. The LMS+BBCiPlayer plugin just plays the streams from BBC the same as a FM or Internet Radio. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109826 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Yes - this log is a media scan. iPlayer plugin does nothing that needs or triggers a scan. In DASH terms "live" stream are "dynamic" - audio chunk URLs are numbered with timecode - so "timeShiftBufferDepth" enables the player to calculate the earliest time code that is guaranteed to work. "Listen Again" is "static" - audio chunks URLs are numbered sequentially with defined start number. So in the BBC case - "smallest" means at least 6 hours will be kept and I then must assume if the program is longer than 6 hours - more will be available (it'll be a case of try and assume it will work). I wonder if greater than 6 hours is always setup - need to test. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109826 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

I found this definition but as is usually the case for anything contained in a Standard I am not sure what it means, particularly "smallest" Code: @timeShiftBufferDepth is optional and described as: specifies the duration of the smallest time shifting buffer for any Representation in the MPD that is guaranteed to be available for a Media Presentation with type 'dynamic'. When not present, the value is infinite. This value of the attribute is undefined if the type attribute is equal to static. slartibartfast's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35609 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109826 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

I skipped back to the start a few minutes ago and the screen on the Touch displayed "Skipped back 411 mins" so there does not appear to be a 6 hour limit. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer V1.6 (and higher) & BBCiPlayerExtra 2.0 (and higher) Support
The "Audiobooks" format seems to be selective and not comprehensive - for example - "Becoming by Michella Obama" is a Book of the Week. Available under A-Z Strange - the brand "Book of the Week" the Extra plugin finds seems to be different to the one the BBC Web interface uses. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109826 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Audiobooks seems to be "hidden" I could only find it in the Programmes menu - is it identified somewhere else ? Try the following - add the following OPML single line of text to the BBCiPlayerExtra default.opml file. After saving new default.opml file - no need to restart LMS - just return to top menu and reselect "BBC iPlayer Extras" menu to read the new default.opml file. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer V1.6 (and higher) & BBCiPlayerExtra 2.0 (and higher) Support
The BBC have recently added a new category or what they call 'Format' entitled Audiobooks. Any chance this could be added to Extras as a category? IIRC I can't play 5 live sports as it is usually UK limited so all I can do is speculate and perhaps look at the metadata sources at the "right" time. Not sure what is happening - it'll depend on what BBC showed in its metadata as the start time of the program (e.g. program is split - TMS part 1 TMS part 2) . This can only be understood by observation.
