Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Possible MusicIP replacement in time?

2012-02-10 Thread dbinder101

I emailed Moodagent to see what the status is on developing a SB
plug-in, here is their reply (very disappointing):

We've had numerous requests for a Squeezebox-plugin, but we haven't
found the resources for developing such a thing yet. It's definitely an
idea to open the API for external developers, but the Moodagent API is
unfortunately not publicly available. We hope to find the resources to
fit this into our schedule, but for the time being it's not in the
pipeline.
Sorry about that.

Boo!

Just listened to some Plüsch (very difficult to understand for

They claim to eg. provide information to MOG. I sure hope not all of what I've

As I suspected, aspects of MusicIP now don't work with OSX 10.7 Lion.

The AACTagReader component of MusicIP which is used to scan and read
tags of AAC files is PowerPC code so is no longer supported by Lion.
There may be other aspects of MusicIP that don't work as well.

Where can I download a Windows version of MusicIP as I can do the

I have a feeling that MusicIP for the Mac may need Rosetta... any Mac

MusicIP wouldn't work any more and Lion could be it for the Mac.

some of the others that are only available in parts of the world

Moodagent also seems to be very good at selecting matching songs

But I agree, it is absolutely necessary to have such a tool as with
increased library size some songs simply are forgotten and not everyone

and for those that break into a sweat going near a DOS prompt can use
my Spyglass tool to automatically install the headless functionality
under Windows.

In terms of the fingerprinting, from what I read it converts the first
few minutes of the file into WAV and then does the fingerprinting.
This doesnt require the MusicIP backend infrastructure (though
obviously quicker) and as PCs are forever getting quicker and quicker
it probably isnt the deal breaker that it might have been a few years

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Possible MusicIP replacement in time?

2010-09-03 Thread Lyster

I have just run all of my music files through Jaikoz in order to
associate them with Amplifind IDs. I still run new files through
MusicIP so that my Squeezebox applications will continue to do what
they are supposed to do. Here's my drill every time I add new music
to my library - Jaikoz first; MP3Tag next in order to clean up the
errors of Jaikoz(if any) and to add missing tag information. Move
files to the server using DBPowerAmp (or, in the case of multi-artist
compilations, using MP3Tag). Then run MusicIP on the entire library at
the music server, at the end of which I will use MusicIP to remove any
duplicates. Occasionally I'll also run EF Duplicate MP3 Finder and the
delete duplicates function from Jaikoz. Sure would be nice to eliminate
some of this drill and have files that will display out of the
Squeezebox Server under the correct artist, album, and title, with the
correct album art, appearing only once (especially in the case of
multi-artist albums), etc., etc., etc.

Doesn't this just mean it will process the song locally instead of

Oh, and yes, I almost forgot... there are those $250.00 acoustic pillows
you can stick to your walls, or even better magic tuning dots -
and the sheer act of using them will free you of the bondage of this
dilemma. In fact I heard that if you paint your CD's green, put a MM

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Possible MusicIP replacement in time?

2010-07-09 Thread Lyster

I just emailed the successor company to MusicIP (at least the
software's developer is there, I beleive), asking about the future of
MusicIP. I, too, am experiencing a slow-down with the MIP server, and
am concerned about the software's future. Here's the response I got
from Dan in AmpliFIND's support team:
Thanks for the email. We are focused on B2B but we do have a few
companies licensing the technology for new products that incorporate
the technology. I hope to have more news soon as I am supposed to get
a beta of one soon.

Yes, it will just take longer, probably unacceptable long for people
with 5 track libraries. As I remember it took a few days for my
3000 track library when I analyzed them the first time before there was
a central server.

I would be more worried that Microsoft did some API change that caused
it to stop working on a new operating system version.

And of course, make sure you keep the downloaded binaries because we
never know when they will remove MusicIP from their download page. My
experience trying to communicate with AMS (the new company which owns
MusicIP) is that they really don't want to communicate with end users
or even individual third party developers, they are only working in the
business to business segment.

IMHO, we really need to find a replacement to MusicIP because it's just
a matter of time until something happens that will make it stop working.

You mean MoodAgent? - be nice to have a desktop client for it, but I
suppose that isn't their target market...

I'm having all sorts of issues with the dying remnants of the MIP
server - somehow I managed to coax it into analysing 100 new tracks,
but I still have 350 tracks that are Identified (by name only)... at
least you can mix them, but I'd love to get them fingerprinted!
