I need to write some control point similar to your PDA control. Will
appriciate if you can give me a link to CLI documentation.

It's installed with the slimserver: have a look at the help section in the

I'm disappointed there's no way to make this work on Palm OS. My Treo

And I'm happy I can offer a solution for at least three important
platforms, plus a few more less important.

Show me another programming language you can use 1:1 on your palm/pda
_and_ your desktop. Then show me the solution for Linux, Windows,
PocketPC, Palm, Zaurus. Guess what? The Mac user will be disappointed
because you serve everybody except him. Sometimes it's easier to stick
with the masses and say: voilà, yet another solution for Windows only.
Everybody does understand a Windows program can't be used anywhere else...
;-)

BTW: from the feedback I've got so far most users are using SlimRemote on
a system I've never used myself and never tested the application with (MS
PocketPC, Windows CE and the like).

For me, when I search I (think I) get entries, but they are all
invisible (i.e. you can't see them - but double clicking does play
songs).

I'd rather say you were able to click non existent entries. This was a
bug: I was too optimistic and did not check boundaries. If there was at
least one entry left in the list, the first would have been played. If the
list was empty, there should have been an exception (in the black hole DOS
window).

Should be fixed in the next release. Thanks for the report!

I just uploaded a slightly enhanced and bug fixed version to my site.

How about a right-click interface for the playlist screen, that brings

Not quite there yet, but you can already double click a playlist entry to

How about an option to hide the cmd window?

I've removed the remaining debug messages and fixed some bugs which caused
that window.

Other changes:
- improve progress bar to display playtime for radio streams, too
- remove some unneeded pictures
- Fix issue with radio streams reporting zero playtime

I appreciate your efforts! Do you accept Paypal for tips?

but Internet Explorer (V4) performance on the ePods is very poor ... I
am curious to see how this compares.

I'd be interested, too. There's a big difference between my Pentium M
1.5GHz and the Zaurus. But it's mainly the GUI that is redrawn slowly. As
most of the search and browsing logic is done on the server, speed in
navigating through the music collection mainly depends on the latter, not
the client. I experienced big improvements when I moved from SQLite to
MySQL (about 30% faster response times on a Via C3/1GHz).

I've posted a question on the Ewe forum to see if I might be able to

Thanks for doing so. Michael (Ewe's author, not me ;-)) usually is pretty
quick in answering questions.

Does SlimRemote use the SlimServer settings for
album/artist/compilation behavior?

I don't know... I'm using the CLI, just telling the server to give me the
list of albums, or the list of tracks for a given album etc. It's the
server which decides what I'm getting.

I tried it out on my PC, it worked
fine but seemed to be showing me all artists on compilation albums even
though I have SlimServer set to group compilation albums together and
list albums by band (and have the "compilation" tag set in my WMA
files).

I don't quite follow. I think it's time I'm buying a compilation album of
some sort... Could you give me an example, the way how you navigate in the
web interface and in SlimRemote, what you expect, what you get etc.

I can't get anything but the exit key to work on my windows smartphone
and the window size is a bit too big.

Otherwise it updates correctly and displays a portion of the album
cover.

I'm switching to a pocketpc soon so its not a big deal but I saw this
on the EWE forum and it might apply. Not sure if this is something you
want to tackle but here it is...

..."you will have to change you GUI to be Smartphone aware. Smartphones
do not generally have touch screens so if you are in a situation where
the cursor key cannot navigate to a button, then the Smartphone user
will not be able to activate it.

Remember you can simpulate a smartphone on your desktop by using the /s
option with the VM and in your code you can use Gui.isSmartphone value
to determine if the application is running on a smartphone.

Basically in the code that is creating the forms look at the variable
Gui.isSmartPhone. If it is true then you should re-arrange your Form so
that it fits better on the small screen - probably double line your
input fields and don't put multi-line text inputs (since they capture
the up/down keys and won't let you switch to another field).

Also you would then want to use the softkey menu system instead of a
menu bar or a set of buttons to accept commands.

Actually - generally the way you would write smartphone applications is
so different (in terms of UI) that you may want to have two versions of
the application to cut down on the size of the application classes
(otherwise half the UI code would be used on one platform and the other
half on the other platform).

Also - if the user says that he can't get the cursor keys to work even
though they do work using the '/s' options - then send me the .ewe file
and I'll confirm on my smartphone and maybe find out why it may be
working differently - I've always found it to work the same on my
smartphone as with the '/s' option. "

Maybe I am doing something wrong but it appears that smartphone support
is someting you have to code differently. Correct me if I am wrong.

Looks really cool..nice work! Can't wait to try this out on my new
Cingular 8125 pocketpc!!

Thanks!

Excellent! It took me ~10 minutes (including downloading Ewe) to get it
working with my Axim and control my SoftSqueeze player.

Wow, well done :-). I'm glad it's working - I did not have the chance yet
to test it on a PocketPC. I mainly developped on Windows and tested on
Linux (SlimCD :-)) and Zaurus.

I thought it would be nice to
have a proper (G)UI to browse and play my CD collection on SqueezeBox -
now you've done this.

It's a beginning, still a lot to do.

Considering this the first public release, I think you've done
excellent work.

Thanks.

I guess you already have a plan how to continue, but
still in my opinion the basic functions are the ones to start with
(e.g. choosing song to play straight from the playlist instead of
skipping with ">>" button from status display ).

Playlist management is on top of my todo list - the current implementation
is barely more than a tab without any functionality... I wanted to add
drag'n'drop for list sorting etc., but am having a hard time with it. And
there are too many other ideas I'd like to implement some day :-/.

If some Java guru wanted to teach me how to program, I might get further
than the current two lines a day :-)

Excellent! It took me ~10 minutes (including downloading Ewe) to get it
working with my Axim and control my SoftSqueeze player.

I'm still in the phase of evaluating SqueezeBox by ripping part of my
collection with EAC to FLAC and using SlimServer/SoftSqueeze
combination. (I hope I can find a colleague soon to order a box with me
and take advantage of the 100off2 promo and bring it from US to
Europe...)

The SlimRemote is what I was looking for when investigating the whole
solution in my house. I have a PocketPC which runs NetRemote (instead
of buying a Philips Pronto remote) and gives me the possibility surf
(at least read some news) on the Net. I thought it would be nice to
have a proper (G)UI to browse and play my CD collection on SqueezeBox -
now you've done this.

Considering this the first public release, I think you've done
excellent work. I guess you already have a plan how to continue, but
still in my opinion the basic functions are the ones to start with
(e.g. choosing song to play straight from the playlist instead of
skipping with ">>" button from status display ).

Now I'm even more eager to get a real SqueezeBox. Well done!
