What spec PC are you using ? Processor and memory ? For some W10 systems longer delays are necessary - increase delay (up to 5 min) to see if buffering stops. With delays too small - The W10 problems ALWAYS happens with Live streams - if it only happens occassionally - it indicates possibly another issue. If you are getting rebuffering when stream has been playing for a few minutes - then something else may also be happening. Any BBCiPlayer message in the server log file ? The result of this change affects "Live" streams only when transcoding. 1.5.*->1.6.0 is a BBC URL change - no code change. Do you have this problem with Listen Again ? If not then change the BBCiPlayer plugin settings "Seconds to delay start live stream" to 1 min. If buffering goes away - try reducing until you get an unstable system. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106409 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Rats, we lost the 30 days listen again. That said BBC planned Nitro API to take over the feed and that seemed not gone to plan - so they may be buying time and holding onto these "customer" rather than let them drift away. BBC may be looking around for other potential sources of revenue. I presume with the "login" process they are trying to provide a personalised service. DASH stream (TV & Radio) makes it much easier to insert ads so so there may be ways to get revenue from non UK and other classes of user of the feed since the subscription experiment a few years ago failed. All speculation and assumes there is a strategy behind the changes but one that we can't divine. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106409 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Whereas I assume you watch the existing iPlayer threads (possibly with email notifications) but won't necessarily see new threads, so a problem is more likely to get attention if it is posted here. New threads can disappear in a mass of other new threads. BBC maintain discussions with vendors (e.g Systemline) I suspect there is a vendors technical mailing list/discussion groups with advice on upcoming changes. For example, the BBC provide an up to date list of live stream URL here http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/imda/imda_transports.xml BBC could have included info in the HTTP headers or XML body but nobody was looking. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106409 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

The plugin has a single menu.opml file. The menu.opml is overwritten by the "load menu layout.." button so that the "new menu layout" is used until plugin is re-installed or overwritten. Toggling between two menus will result in confusion as LMS caching will make it seem change has not taken place so user will have to restart LMS to clear cache. If you want some other customisation (e.g. have two menus for same staton 7day and 30 day or a 30 day submenu with all stations set up for 30day ) - just edit the menu.opml file. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106409 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer V1.5.2 beta test
BBC Apps and web site originally only went back 7 days so the external feed matched. Then everything else got upgraded to 30 days and the external feed we use got left as it was. I don't believe it was any more complicated than that, apart from possible complications that third party(ies) seem to be involved in maintaining the external feed and may not have wanted to do any work to upgrade it. There may also have been concerns that some third party equipment couldn't handle 30 days of data on the external feed, maybe enough new hardware is out there now that this is no longer a concern? Personally I suspect some of the third party hardware manufacturers that use the external feed pushed for this. They probably didn't like that BBC Apps and web site could do 30 days and their internet radio hardware players could not. I think BBC's 2-3yr plans have been subverted by popular expectation of internet. The feeds Extra used were cut down severely a few years ago and BBC said it would be discontinued as it was difficult to maintain. The "Latest" stuff is a hack. Nitro is used by phone/tablet apps but I think T&Cs for acceptable use by 3rd parties are hard to make and police as API has the potential to overwhelm BBC servers. BBC used to object to user downloading programs - yet they are now advocating it with downloadable Podcasts of many programs not just a select few. The original feed had only 7 days - I think BBC imposed this at the time perhaps to give their won web and apps an "edge" or perhaps they had copyright issues. Surprisingly, the feed EXtra uses still has more program than the BBC iPlayer feed mainly from the international services such as Nepal, Afrique etc. Also Extra can go back further than 30 days. So I think it is mostly redundant but it requires no effort to maintain. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106409 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer V1.5.2 beta test
Does iPlayerExtras serve any purpose now that the main schedule supports 30 days? The categories were already greatly reduced compared to the past. I'm pleased by this change, it makes it seem less like the BBC are abandoning third parties. After the Nitro damp squid I wondered how much of a future we had. And thanks for updating the plugin to match! Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer V1.5.2 beta test
I have uploaded an updated version of the BBCiPlayer plugin to handle the updated BBC feed. The new version is V1.6.0 is just V1.5.4.5 + fix to recent problem. I have updated the test (V1.5.4.*) and release (V1.5.3) repo URLs to enable user update the plugin easily. For users migrating from 1.5.3 - an additional feature under the "More menu" is a segment index to "Listen Again" programs and the ability to jump to a particular segment. User of older version of 1.4 and 1.5 will have to update their repo URLs to get V1.6.0. Up to this week (17Sep18) only 7 days of programming available. The updated BBC feed has 30 days of programming. Some users may like to have more than 7 days programming even though it can be cluttered if 30 days are shown. A level of customisation has been added to the plugin. The following URL demonstrates menu variants on Radio 4menu. Use the BBCiPlayer plugin settings to replace the default menu and afterwards revert. http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/bpaplugins/menu-R4variants-demo.opml For the technical user who wish to customise their own menus via the menu.opml file - the keys points are * the options are added at the end of the "parser="Plugins::BBCiPlayer::BBCXMLParser?" as shown below. * the main options are bykey (programs names) and byday (program schedule). Omit "byday" and there will be no schedule of programmes. Omit "bykey" and there will be no list of programme. * There is an option for the maximum number of days to present "filter:maxdays=15" - 15 is an example - max is 30 ,default is 7 * if you have multiple menus for the same station you MUST add "nocache" option. * Options needs to be prefixed by "&" * Triode provided additional filter options but I have never tested Example of Schedule 15 days - as "bykey" has been omitted. Most of the settings in the BBCiPlayer plugin now only affect DASH such as bitrate and delay. My theory. For some reason there is a long delay in setting up the transcoding chain - if there isn't enough data "ready" - it chokes ("rebuffering"). By starting the live stream a bit before "realtime" it enables a burst of data to be fetched and so kick start the transcoding chain with no delay. It is very unusual that you need to keep the setting at 3 mins as that is a huge amount of data to prefetch. This isn't a VM or similar ? Is the clock on your system set up to get "network" time ? To get to the bottom of this problem - I need to get Win10 but I have no other incentive to do so as it is not my main system. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106409 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

I tried switching to DASH> HLS but that seems much worse - I've a attached a logfile of trying to play using the settings in the attached screenshot. Using DASH gave a buffering process of about 3 mins of silence and then played for about 10 seconds before rebuffering again. It was only trying to load at -48kbps CBR, aac, -but sometimes clicking play again gave -339kbps CBR, AAC LC -without my changing any settings bpa wrote: > > 2. Don't play HLS stream on Windows - keep as a "backup" with "DASH > HLS > MP3 > FlashAAC" - IIRC The plugin "live" URLs only have DASH and HLS now. 2. If you really want to play HLS streams on Windows install playHLS whichuses ffmpeg and create favorites - there will be no program info. 3. Low buffer threshold increase the likelihood of rebuffering - so if you get rebuffering - increase threshold to max. 4. The " Slim::Utils::OS::Win32::getPriorityClass" error is a LMS error due to changing server priority - IIRC it doesn't work at the moment. and really wouldn't have made a difference unless you are on a low power single core single thread system. 5. Assuming you have a good network link, in the UK and with a high powered LMS server - I think "use highest bitrate DASH stream available" option may result less rebuffering due to nature of Windows specific issue. Only relevant to DASH streams. I am not sure but I think in Win8 or Win10 MS made a change which affect LMS transcoding support program socketwrapper.exe. It is most noticeable on high end multicore system with lots of RAM - it is possible the syste is too fast for the application which was initially written for a single core prcoessor and now with multi core system there is a "race hazard" somewhere in the code . The plugin's HLS implementation uses HTTP 1.0 so each 6sec chunk request requires a separate TCP connection each with a DNS lookup - this generates a lot of network traffic which is constant while playing stream (i.e not a burst) . This seems to cause problems on Windows systems possibly due to interaction with Windows caching. PlayHLS using ffmpeg and the plugin's DASH implementation both use HTTP 1.1 which means one TCP connection and then multiple chunks sent on same connection. I do not have Win8 or Win10 system so I cannot verify my theory. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106409 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Hi, Can anyone [bpa? :-) ] help with my iplayer config please? I'm getting frequent and variable Connecting... and Rebuffering... on all listen live streams. I noticed this about 6 months ago and have since moved to new LMS server hardware without success. System / Server Config: LMS 7.9.1 running on Lenovo Thinkpad X230 Laptop Notebook i7-3520M 8GB Win 10 Players misbehaving: Squeezbox 2 & Classic. Wired and wireless. UK based, zen internet DNS. iPlayer config: BBC iPlayer 1.5.3 BBC iPlayer Extras 2.0.0 http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/bpaplugins/betarelease-repo.xml Seconds to delay: 15, Buffer fullness: 100. Fiddling with these has little effect. HLS>DASH>MP3>FlashAAC>FlashMP3 this plays 339kbps CBR, AAC LC If I set DASH>HLS>MP3>FlashAAC or DASH, the player seems to repeatedly buffer about 0,1,2,3 seconds and then restarts at 0 without playing. Setting Bitrate for DASH lowest/highest makes no difference. Server Log file has lots of: [18-06-15 10:02:58.0586] Slim::Utils::OS::Win32::getPriorityClass (752) Error: Slim::Utils::LogCan't get process handle () [Wrong number of parameters: expected 0, got 1.] I've tried setting server priority in LMS config to 0:Normal and -16 without effect. I've attached a more detailed log file. I can play mp3 bbc streams without problem eg https://opml.radiotime.com/Tune.ashx?id=s46537&partnerId=16&username=xx I can stream bbc iPlayer radio through my Windows browser without any buffering. Spotty streams happily at 700+kps Any pointers would be much appreciated! Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer V1.5.2 beta test
The delay stuff was all at defaults, the only settings I ever changed were the two toggles for the programme data. I don't think the song info missing problem was down to my installation because remember I had two in parallel, one on Win7 machine and one on Joggler. Both LMS 7.9.1 final and iplayer 1.5.3. Both sorted themselves out so it must have been either me going mad or there was a problem at the other end. They fixed themselves without me doing anything anyway. Regarding the missing menu entries on iPlayer on the Joggler (only), I completely removed everything including the stuff LMS leaves behind when you uninstall it (prefs etc). Then I reinstalled exactly the same versions and the menu items are there now. Then I reapplied my fix to BBCOnAir.pm to get the programme names on my SB3 display (instead of just a scrolling date). So all is working good now. For the record, and because you asked, the Joggler is running SqueezeplayOS 3.0.3 which is based on Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS (Trusty) with kernel 3.18 Cheers Glenn2's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=19286 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106409 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Song titles are displayed if the stream is considered to be "live" and not "skipped back" or some other delay between the estimate realtime of the audio being played and the time of the live text. The delay can also occur if playing plugin setting "seconds to delay live stream" is over 60 secs for 1.5.4.* but I think lower for other versions. This delay is needed to provide a stream without pauses especially on low end Windows system but can also occur be needed on hoigh end Win10 systems. If there is a "long" delay - usually titles are not displayed (replaced by program info) as they will be out of sync with playing audio. What OS does Joggler run? What version of the plugin ? What is your plugin "seconds to delay live stream" ? Also "song title" are not defined as song titles but a piece of text hacked from the BBC web site that provide short scroll text for BBC Radio web pages - not their player window (which has playlist etc). The info is usually of the form " by " - it is formatted by BBC but it can have other info such as breaking news or other station info between tracks. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106409 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBCiPlayer V1.5.2 beta test
For some reason I am now getting the same as Ronnie. With station icon always displayed I am now getting song titles where I wasn't before in web ui and Squeezeplay. This wasn't working yesterday! And I'm talking about both Joggler and Win7 LMS installations, so maybe there was something up at the other end? Or maybe I'm just going mad. I still don't get the extra menu items (recent tracks etc.) on the Joggler LMS and this was a complete reflash of the Joggler SqueezeplayOS the other day, straight to 7.9.1 and I haven't played around with any menus or done anything like that. It doesn't really matter, it's just odd. If I removed LMS and then reinstalled it, would anything be cached? Is there a procedure to completely remove all trace of it before re-installation? Is it possible you changed the standard menu and forgot about it ? Other possibility is that you installed using on Joggler a repository development URL and not a release URL bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106409 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

I meant the BBCiPlayer plugin Recent Tracks menu but the info should be the same. I'll do a bit more digging. A quick looks seems ot indicate that the VFD display has a composite field "info" which is made up from other metadata whereas the WebGUI and Touch display use the standard fields: "artist" "track" and "disc". bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106409 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
