Just google Kodi skinning basically. There's heaps of info in the
wiki.

It's all simple XML. The file you need is in the addon itself in the
resources sir - XSqueezeNowPlayingWindow.xml IIRC. Main thing to do
would be add a keyboard control to trigger 'ReloadSkin()' in your
keyboard.xml so you can very easily see see your changes as you make
them. (and turn on the grid to ease layout etc).

A few nights should be enough. The basic structure was two panels -
now playing info in the left and artist slidesow display on the right.

2016-02-18 Thread bossanova808

That's good to hear. It's probably xbmc giving up on the thumb
arriving, I don't think there's much I can do about that.

XSqueeze, it will be painfully obvious, is a pretty gross hack really.
It just started as a proof of concept (becvause for years people had
been saying that a proper xbmc client should be made but nobody did
anything, I just wanted something as a visualiser but then adding
playback in a non integrated way was easy, so that came along etc etc) -
I ran with it a bit, but in a very unstructured way (it was really some
of my first python).

So don't expect too much from it and I don't actually use it myself (I
uses SBs for music mostly, but if I want to play music through my TV
connected systems I mostly just use xbmc itself).

2015-03-30 Thread bossanova808

[Copy of post form XSqueeze main thread over at the Kodi forums...]

Ok folks here's a little supplementary thing I have started work on.
It's very handy if you have a squeezebox sitting next to your Kodi
machine

It's called XSqueezeDisplay (& I am offiicially crap at naming
things!).

It's a tool to display Kodi now playing info using the line display of a
SB2/Sb3/Classic Squeezebox. Basically, the idea is that it will be like
LCDProc but using a Squeezebox display. If you're not using Kodi, it
will just fall back to displaying the standard Date and Time stuff.

This alpha version displays only one thing so far - time remaining on
the currently playing video (only) file.

The alpha is here:
https://github.com/bossanova808/reposito...isplay.zip

You need to install that to your Logitech Media Server plugins folder -
check where that is here:
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Lo..._locations

To install, download the zip and extract it in that folder such that you
end up with something like:

C:\Program Files
(x86)\Squeezebox\server\Plugins\XSqueezeDisplay\Plugin.pm (..etc!)

Now, RESTART your LMS.

Go to Settings->Plugins and you should now see XSqueezeDisplay -> click
settings on right and fill those in with your Kodi json details (IP
address, port, username and password or leave those last two blank if
you don't use authentication). Note the two template lines at the bottom
are currently not used so just leave them empty!

Apply the settings (bottom right).

RESTART your LMS again. Check the end of the LMS log and you should see
something like:
*** XSqueezeDisplay *** Kodi endpoint is
http://user:password@192.168.16.31:80/jsonrpc (user:password will be
missing if you don't use one).

Now on your kodi machine, play a video. You should see the display
change to something like (if in two line mode):
Playing
12:05PM [-45:12] - and the timer on the right ticking down as each
second passes.

Not a big reader huh? ;)

"Squeezelite supports gapless playback, a wide range of sample rates
(44.1 kHz / 48 kHz / 88.2 kHz / 96 kHz / 176.4 kHz / 192 kHz / 352.8 kHz
/ 384 kHz)"

BUT - I think you'd have to custom compile squeezelite on the RPi (R Pi
uses the arm6 hard dloat binary IIRC) - to support the resampling. If
you do that, you can overwrite the binary with the addon with yours and
that shoudl in theory be it I think, although I know very little about
this,. You really want to ask in triode's thread about his squeezelite
player

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] XSqueeze - XBMC and Squeezebox, together at last!

2013-02-12 Thread Paul Webster

For those with Raspberry Pi devices where this still doesn't work, the
problem might be that support for ALSA sound is not included as default
e.g. RaspBMC 1.0
ALSA sound was not enabled by default in early OS releases on RPi
because it occasionally caused crashes. Things have improved since then
so you can try by logging into the system and enabling ALSA by typing:
sudo modprobe snd-bcm2835

Do not reboot at this stage
If that command makes things work for you (when you next run XSqueeze -
be patient because it can take quite a long time to bring up the UI)
then you can make the change permanent (at least until the next update
to device) by typing:
sudo echo "snd-bcm2835" >> /etc/modules

Yes, you'll need the "K" tag to get artwork_url in status response ("a"
and "l" will also include artist and album info).

Big thanks for your work, it works really well. Will try to look into
more stuff and hope I can contribute with something later on.

Curl works great in the part of the script you suggested, this is the
code I use in case anyone else wants to add it (don't know if it's the
best way though).

Code:

  os.system("curl ''")

It's probably easiest to fire up the web UI using firebug or some other of

A basic 'status 0 1000' returns no artwork_url fields when playing radio
here. Using the tags thing per Tobias code does, though. It's hard to
find a good tags example in the Cli docs but I though status would do it

Ok, cool, thanks - I integrated your code (added a test for http in the
artwork_url as well as per your php code to get it to work with radio
stations - I don't have spotify etc so this was the best I could try!).
I will push this release out soon.

I don't care about a few more telnets/optimum code, everything seems
very responsive and if these machines can handle the rest of xbmc
they'll do fine with XSqueeze...but feel free to improve it and supply
something else if you like - I never stream really (other than radio) so
it's not very important to me personally but I am sure others will
appreciate it.

Ok I get how you're using the visualiser now, makes sense if you're
using a physical player externally. If you finesse up your skin and are
happy with it let me know and I will put in the add on page...

(BTW I am super busy right now due to some family health stuff hence not
getting into this a bit more - basically, feel free to hack and submit
and I will integrate as long as it doesn't break anything for others!)

Cheers

I've never coded in Python, so this approach is probably not an ideal
solution, but this is what I came up with in SqueezePlayer.py to make
the Spotify cover art show. As you might see I send the "status" command
for one track (count) with the tags Kal (K=artwork_url, a=artist,
l=album).

This actually works pretty well although there's probably a better place
in the code where this "status" command could be called (now it doesn't
show upcoming cover art and upcoming info for spotify tracks). I'm sure
there's also a better way to extract the data from the response than the
one I do. Of course, this also makes four more telnet queries.

So, this is just a quick fix to make Spotify (and perhaps other
streaming services) cover art work. I'd like to try some more stuff out
later but haven't really understood all of your code yet.

Code:

  def updateCoverArtURLs(self):

  coverURLs = []

  #print "Playlist is" + str(self.playlist)

  #start at this song , end at + 3
  index = int(self.sb.request("playlist index ?"))
  upcomer = index
  end = index + 4

  #currently uses the track_id in the url - works well
  #supposed to use the cover_id number but this doesn't work so well...
  for count in range(upcomer,end):
  if(counthttp://"; + constants.SERVERHTTPURL + "/" + statusArtwork
  else:
  statusId = statusInfo.split('id:')
  statusId = statusId.pop(1)
  statusId = statusId.split(' ')
  statusId = statusId.pop(0)
  coverURL = "http://"; + constants.SERVERHTTPURL + "/music/" + str(statusId) +
"/cover.jpg"
  #print self.playlist[count]
  #currentID = self.playlist[count]['id']
  #coverURL = "http://"; + constants.SERVERHTTPURL + "/music/" + str(currentID)
+ "/cover.jpg"
  #Logger.log ("Appending future cover: " + str(count) + " from " + coverURL)
  coverURLs.append(coverURL)
  except Exception as inst:
  Logger.log("No cover art so appending null string for playlist index " +
str(count), inst)
  coverURLs.append("")

  self.coverURLs = coverURLs

I think that one is from the original xml file, It was commented out and
I left it like that.

> Won't the visualisation never come up as we're not playing anything via
> XBMC? You are using the current version right (0.4.5)
It won't show up as long as your not playing anything in the xbmc
player. It's just for a fake visualization where a use could be if you
have the TV input to xbmc and AVR input to a squeezebox player, in that
case you could start streaming something like a low bitrate web radio on
xbmc and the visualization for that stream will be displayed while the
squeezebox player is the music you hear. It's not a very user friendly
solution, nor is it anything but fake visualization, but if you like
visualization - it's at least possible. (I do get alot of "waiting for
artist.slideshow to exit when I have visualization though, I think
there might be a problem if your playing a track where xbmc knows the
artist and the slideshow script looks for that artist as well as/instead
of the one that is playing on the squeezebox)

Likewise you can play a video stream on xbmc and if you run your script
it will show the video in the background, I like this a lot, mainly to
have live-tv displayed while listening to music and still see cover art
as an overlay to the video stream. I added a launcher to your script in
the themes VideoOSD.xml so it can easily be launched while playing a
video.

The skin is just meant to be a fancy display for squeezebox at the
moment. When I posted the last message I didn't know that the fonts
where inherited from the current skin so I think mine might look weird
as I think the xml is using Confluence font titles while I myself have a
modified Alaska as theme. Will have a second go at this later.

By the way, I can change the AV input on my receiver by "curl"-ing a web
page, this would be awesome if the script would do this while launching
(and perhaps "curl" another web page while exiting). Do you know where,
if possible, in the script I could add something like that?

I'm sorry for all the questions and such but I'm really enjoying being
able to integrate Squeezebox and XBMC, thanks again for a great script!

I am actually using the status command (as well as songinfo) - but
neither seem to be returning the data in question via the CLI. I don't
use radio much myself, and I quite like the default pic but if you give
me an easy solve I am happy to pop it in.

Won't the visualisation never come up as we're not playing anything via

Thanks for the quick reply!

Re CLI, squeezebox json is using the same commands and gets the same
results, just that you get it returned in json format. I don't know any
python but tried looking at your code and it seems you're using the
"playlist" and "songinfo" command. In my php script I used the "status"
command which returned the strings necessary to show spotify cover art,
I'm not sure what those commands return but can compare them later.

Anyway, I did a simple skin

I couldn't resist including a pseudo visualization. If you have XBMC
playing any sound it will show a visualization (if activated in xbmc
music settings), if you're playing video it will show that, otherwise it
will show the artist slideshow.

1) Not really - we're not using the XBMC player so there's no hook into
the visualization. Best you could do is set some sort of screensaver up
as a pseduo-visualisation.

2) I am not using json, rather the CLI - I will look into this but no
promises!  Thanks for the examples...

(Also, patches welcome...
the code is on googlecode if you fancy a stab at the python code...

3) Skinning it would be great - check the provided Confluence file, it
documents everything pretty clearly I think. If you come up with with
files for other skins (or an alternate for Confluence), let me know and
I will add it to the repo for others to enjoy!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] XSqueeze - XBMC and Squeezebox, together at last!

2012-04-14 Thread tobiasfunke

Hi,

Really appreciate this plugin, I'm gonna try skinning it later on. I'm
using it as a remote/display for my squeezebox receivers.

Just a few questions/suggestions:

1) Is it possible to have visualization to show in the app?

2) When playing internet radio/spotify the app shows a standard
squeezebox radio icon as cover art.

I just looked at some of the php code I previously experimented with
(together with squeezebox json rpc) and this is how I did to get around
this and display the correct cover art ($value is the array with the
json "status" response):

Code:

  http://localhost:9000";;
  $id = $value['id'];
  $artworkurl = $value['artwork_url'];

  if(empty($artworkurl)){
// artwork_url is empty, probably local playback, get the cover art
with $id
$artwork = $squeezeboxserver . "/music/" . $id . "/cover_2000x2000.jpg";
}
else{
// artwork_url not empty, probably internet radio, try
displaying external cover art
$findme = "http";
$pos = strpos($artworkurl, $findme); // look
for http
if($pos !== false) {
// album_url contains http, get that
image
$artwork = $artworkurl;
 }
else {
// album_url does not contain http, use
this to display it
$artwork = $squeezeboxserver . "/" .
$artworkurl;
}
}
  echo "";
  ?>

It was a long time ago I did this so I don't exactly remember how the
json response looked, but looked today at the php output for the three
different outcomes in the script and they look like this:

[1 - with empty 'album_url', just grabbing the coverart with 'id']
json response:
'id' = '28830'
'album_art' = ''
set artwork:
$artwork = "http://localhost:9000/music/28830/cover_2000x2000.jpg";;

[2 - 'album_art' contains http, grabbing the http]
json response:
'album_art' = 'http://radiotime-logos.s3.amazonaws.com/s25681q.png'
set artwork:
$artwork = "http://radiotime-logos.s3.amazonaws.com/s25681q.png";;

[3 - 'album_art' does not contain http, add the string to the squeezebox
server url]
json response:
'album_art' =
'spotifyimage/spotify:image:f0dd4a841252c146768d8a6637a45a270ab913af/cover.jpg'
set artwork:
$artwork =
"http://localhost:9000/spotifyimage/spotify:image:f0dd4a841252c146768d8a6637a45a270ab913af/cover.jpg";;

Sorry if my explanation is kind of messy.

Yeah to be honest it (squeezeslave) plays all my local radio streams
fine, and here in Aus. there is very limited access to other types of
streams due to onerous licensing restrictions - so I won't be putting
effort into something I probably can't use anyway, realistically.

Also I repeat - the very basic two line + button approach I can use
with Squeezeslave is very very easy...the other protocols are obviously
more feature rich but harder work too.

My code is on googlecode @

welcome to fork and run with this...

Squeezeslave works with most streaming services even without direct
streaming support.

If I remember correctly, Triode choose to block players that didn't
support it in the spotify plugin to reduce the chance that users would
capture the spotify streams to disk. That's part of the requirements
to using the spotify api library.

I capture several SiriusXM late night shows with squeezeslave, so I can
listen to them at a more reasonable hour.

In no way is this bossanova808's fault or problem, but I guess I am

Ok, the original statement of 99.9% was wrong. But even if it's 80%, and
bossanova had to decide whether he wanted to spend more time with his
friends and family, or implement a feature he and 80% of potential other
users might not be interested in, then guess what I would suggest him to
do.

I'm sure he'll be happy to include an improved solution if somebody is

I agree some of this is supported in other ways in XBMC but for
Squeezebox users the advantages of multi-room control and synchronised
(semi-synchronised in the case of the PC, but still better than
nothing) multi-room playback are significant.

I realise that just replacing SqueezeSlave with Squeezeplay is not

SqueezeSlave, capable of direct streaming (and other things) seems
sensible and I would not have thought it would be a lot of work for the

Lack of direct stream support needed for Spotify etc. kills it for me.

It's probably the wrong thread, but would it be very hard to modify

Yep I don't think that is the way to go.

For me personally, I am really not sure slimproto is worth the effort,
which would be considerable.

My main issue is how to deal with the touch/radio and future devices -
at the moment, this reflects my hardware, which is all classics/booms.

And the reality is, with projects like Raspberry Pi, the internal XBMC
audio player is a very viable alternative, although it definitely needs
improvement in some areas...I see this as a bridging solution until
either XBMC's music functionality improves (codec support etc is
already quite good, it's really jut the clunky browsing/playlist
management side that needs a thorough workover). Of course I am hoping
logo release a slim device but with an HDMI out and cool big screen
display - honestly, a great internal dac, and HDMI out, are the two
things I would really like to see in a new Squeezebox type device.

SliMP3 was the very first player Slimdevices sold. It was using a

features I mentioned in this thread before. It would be too much work
to add them and would justify a complete rewrite. (And the current
project holder doesn't want to invest the required effort/time.)

Development is active, it would seem, so it may well come to pass that
otehr formats are done.

Well, If I could I would :-) It was just a reminder... I think it's a
pitty that there are very capable players on iOS/Android, but there
seems none available for desktop OSes.

Well sure - if you have some spare time, knock up a full slimproto
handler in XBMC friendly python and that would be awesome.

But for 99.9% of people, Squeezeslave does very well indeed.

Remember that Squeezeslave has limited capabilities. It only supports a
44.1 samplerate, all other sample rates will be played too fast/slow.
Crossfade doesn't work either...

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] XSqueeze - XBMC and Squeezebox, together at last!

2012-02-18 Thread bossanova808

True, the XBMC forums are vast and intimidating at times!

Yes, this is a TV display for Squeezebox clients - it can either be
it's own client, and do display and playback, or it can just be a
larger display for an existing Squeezebox - I am using it as one of
each at my home...I don't have a Squeezebox in my main media room, so
there I use this as display & player, but in another room I do have a
Squeezebox so I just use this as a larger display (as the hardware
based synchronisation is always better than software synchronisation
and when I am in this room I typically have other rooms playing as
well).

I suspect most people will use it directly as a player, though.

XBMC runs on a bewildering array of hardware, and yes on most occasions
is connected by HDMI to your receiver or TV. I personally have:
- Shuttle XS35GT using HDMI for video and audio to a Denon 2309 amp
- An ASRock ION 330 connected via HDMI to a TV and analogue audio to a
digital amp
- An old Mac Mini with video via DVI->HDMI and audio via SPDIF to an
amp.

So basically, hardware wise, there are LOTS of options. The XBMC
hardware forum has some good example/recommended setups from a user
named eskro.

In terms of output, it uses Squeezeslave, so can output to whatever
Squeezeslave can. Most of the time it seems to work automatically, not
sure how, and sends sound to the primary output. But if you want, you
can manually run 'squeezeslave -L' and it will list the available audio
outputs - you can then run 'squeezeslave -o12' or similar, to get it to
use a specific output (which may or may not be different to your
main/tv output, depending on what you wish to achieve). The add on
lets you specify extra squeezesalve arguments if you need
themalthough eventually I might build a window that lets you do
this inside the plugin with a GUI, it won't be for a while at least -
but the manual way is easy.

As to what it can play, the depends entirely on what Squeezeslave can
play. I have yet to find something it can't, but I have pretty much all
MP3s and FLACs, with a few m4a etc, but I don't think I have any 5.1
stuff for audio.

http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/SqueezeSlave - should tell you
what you need to know, or the Squeezeslave support thread.

XBMC is of course an amazing thing in many other ways than this, if you
have any interest in video and slick GUIs, it's well worth trying in and
of itself - this is jut a wee little bonus on the side!

2012-02-18 Thread Henry66

I would like to ask some questions here, if you don't mind, before
drowning in the xbmc forums where there is TMI for a newbie.

Will this allow me to have the client ("now playing") display on my
TV?
Is there any xbmc hardware that connects to the TV/receiver via HDMI?
If so, can the Squeeze-served music go over the same HDMI?
And will it work with multi-channel FLAC files?

Ok screenie in the first post of that thread now - like I said, v.
simple as this page. Hopefully I can tie it in nicely to the very eye
candy rich XBMC experience...that's the plan. Long way to go yet, but
this is at least serviceable.

Anything XBMC runs on I think (+ squeezeslave must run on the platform
if you want local playback). The add on is written (like all xbmc
addons) in Python - and at the moment is so embarrassingly simply a
screen shot is pointless. I have tried Win, Linux (Openelex XBMC), and
OSX so far.
