D-Link 810+ with Airport Base Station

2003-11-23 Thread Esver Camacho
I just received a D-Link 810+ ethernet wireless adapter. I want to
allow a PowerBook G3 (Lombard) that only has an ethernet connector to
connect to my wireless network and surf the web. Unfortunately, the
only way this device allows my computer to surf the web is if I turn
off Access Control on the base station (allowing anyone to connect to
my airport network) and if I disable WEP. If any device is listed
under Access Control then the D-link doesn't surf. Even if the device
listed is the D-link.

Does anyone have any experience in this area?

Re: VCDs on 3400

2003-09-02 Thread Esver Camacho
Can I create VCD backups of my DVDs? Can I make VCDs from any QuickTime
movie file?
To make VCD backups of DVD's try and OS X software called Forty-two,
http://mail.e3ware.com/cboo/kaisakura/fortytwo.html. According to
their website, forty-two v1.6 is the easiest way to convert a DVD
into either an AVI movie , a folder of ready to burn bin/cues for
VCDs and SVCDs or a ready to burn .iso DVD disk image on Mac OS X..
It is designed to be simple to use, easy to learn and give quality,
in sync results.

Too bad you don't live in Miami. Our user group is presenting a
seminar (free to members) on how to create VCD's with menus and
chapter breaks on Wednesday. We'll cover Super VCD's as well.

For other software go to http://www.versiontracker.com and search for VCD.

It could also be that the list only accepts plain text and your

iMovie 3 on PowerBook G4

2003-01-31 Thread Esver Camacho
I'm disappointed that the new iMovie 3.0.1 suddenly made my PowerBook
G4 (800 Mhz) feel old. I normally zip through iMovie 2 but this
latest version turned my PowerBook into a dinosaur. Not only that but
iMovie 3 appears to require rendering of photos through the Ken Burns
effect even for simple placement on the timeline. In iMovie 2 you
just placed the photos without wasting time rendering, making the
laying out and transitioning of photos faster. You also were able to
adjust the time on screen of the photo clip by entering
seconds:frames. This is crucial for timing the appearance of photos
with a music track or a voice-over. The current method of setting the
time, rendering, resetting the time and re-rendering it too
cumbersome. I hope they come out with a faster revision and fix that
photo placement method.

I think I'll stick with iMovie 2 for awhile.

Re: power book power supplys

2002-11-20 Thread Esver Camacho
would a power brick/chord from a powerbook 1400cs work wwith a powerbook
160???

The A/C adapter used with the 1400cs is model number M4895, M4896 or
M4402. This adapter is shared by the PowerBook 3400, PowerBook G3
(original) and the PowerBook G3 Series (including Lombard and Pismo).

The PowerBook 160 uses Model number M5651, M5652 or M4662. According
to the Apple Knowledgebase document #16168, you can share this with
PowerBook 140, 145, 145b, 160, 165, 170, and 180 computers.

Basically, no.

For more details regarding which adapter is compatible with which
computer, look at the article at
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=16168

I'm not familiar with vnc but I do know of a program called Timbuktu

Bad PowerBook sound board

2002-08-02 Thread Esver Camacho

I just found that my PowerBook G3 (Lombard)'s sound board fried! No
sound from speakers, no sound from sound port in the back, no sound
when resetting PRAM. Anyway, I'm considering two options - the cost
of fixing (one quote is $200 for the part and $90 for labor) or the
cost of buying another PowerBook (floor models and used models
TOTALLY acceptable). I don't know about the new iBooks yet as I've
had limited exposure to them and I know I don't want the TiBook
because of its delicate nature.

I just upgraded my current PowerBook with a 40 Gb hard drive, a PC
slot Airport card (Orinoco Gold) and it has 320 Mb RAM. It's running
quite well at 400 Mhz (Mac OS X 10.1.5) so the lack of sound is the
only problem. I really don't want to spend over $1400 for a
replacement if I don't have to.

Any ideas?

CoStar Stingray Trackball

2001-08-16 Thread Esver Camacho

I recently acquired a Costar Stingray Trackball 2.0 for my PowerBook
1400. This is an ADB trackball with two very large buttons on either
side. Does anyone know where I can get the Control Panel software
that it originally came with? I'd like to program the second button
to do a control click. Right now the only option is a switch under
the trackball that allows Click-locking either the left or right
button.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure which instructions you're using but consider downloading
