Internet Explorer For Macintosh for ebay
Hello, While many will not miss Internet Explorer, I don't know of a replacement that will do as good a job for ebay auctions. Now, when I download the web page for an item, IE downloads a copy of the page, with an item description and with the url. Later, to check the auction progress, I double click on this saved page on the Desktop, click the Connect button and it connects and refreshes when I click on the bids link. However, when I tried Safari, an ebay auction page was not saved with the images, the page did not have a correct title, and later double clicking on the page just opened the page on my desktop but there was no web url at the top- just a link on my Desktop so I could not connect again to this page. What browser are people using to follow ebay auctions- a browser that downloads the page content and pictures? So far, I have found IE the best for auctions, on both OS9 and OSX. Would appreciate alternative suggestions. Thanks. -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... Hello, Are some laptop hard drives just inherently noisier than others- i.e. when the computer or a program starts up and the drive is accessed there are audible noises heard. 3400 pcmcia ideas
Bill, On my 3400 I used: i) a combination Global Village 56k modem and ethernet pcmcia card. It worked well, and provided both capabilities. Also, the installer contains all necessary drivers for the modem and ethernet functions. ii) I used an Orinoco card for wireless and there are appropriate v7.2 Mac drivers. You can also use TomeViewer to extract the Airport extensions. iii) I used a Macally 276 usb pcmcia card, with the shaved off left side, and the hacked usb extensions, as discussed here many times. Hello, I have just acquired a Wallstreet (292 mhz, 64 mb ram, 5 GB hd with OS 9.1) which has a yellow tinge along the bottom of the screen for about half an inch. new Kanga (3500) hard drive size, speed?
Advice appreciated. I have replaced the hard drive and now it seems to run very hot (i.e.- too uncomfortable for a lap). The heat is felt near the hard drive, and everywhere on the underside of the case. Does this sound normal? 3400 and non-working VST zip drive
I'd like to make a further clarification of my original post, as many of you have kindly suggested remedies, but they have already been tried and not worked and you might have a further idea of I clarify: Hello, I have a VST Zip drive for the powerbook 190/5300/3400. When I put it in the expansion bay of the 5300 running 8.6 it works fine. When I put it in the 3400 running 9.1, it causes the powerbook to start up only to a gray screen with a black cursor and not start up any further and I have to push the Reset button to shut down. I have downloaded the Iomega software for OS8.6/9. loaded it, and the problem still occurred. How can I tell if there is a problem with the connector on the 3400 (as the CD drive works fine) or if there is a software problem affecting this VST zip drive? Thanks. Others kindly suggested: Try removing all the iomega s/w - I seem to remember that around OS 9 the device was supported natively in the OS install. The Iomega driver IS part of a MacOS install, as many Macs come with Zips. The install process will install the Iomega Driver system extension, whether you have an Iomega device intalled, or not. OR Exactly my point, you don't need to download and install extra s/w from iomega on later Mac OS versions, you already have it installed. OR When those first came out, they used a different driver/control panel... Be sure you have the VST drivernot the Iomega driver. However, firstly, this start up problem occurred after a clean install of system 9.1 which contained the Iomega drivers. Inserting the zip drive froze the computer on start up to a blank gray screen. Therefore, I downloaded and installed the Iomega drivers for OS 8.69 from the Iomega site and installed them, but the computer still froze on start up. However, the CD and floppy drives work fine. The zip disk works fine on the 5300. Could anyone tell me where to get the VST driver suggested above? I hope this is more clear. Thanks. -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... display screen default choice on a 5300?
I would appreciate advice for setting the display screen contrast on a powerbook 5300. The usual buttons for Brightness and Contrast on the right side do not darker the screen as much as I would like before continued pressing of them makes the screen go black with not enough contrast or brightness. how badly is the 5300 damaged?
Hi, When quickly trying to change the hard drive in my powerbook 5300, I started with the battery in. I already had the keyboard out when the powerbook started up. I pulled out the battery so it stopped running and continued to change over the hard drive. When I finished and plugged the 5300 in and started it, there was a flash from the area of the screen. However, it started up and ran ok. However, now it seems to not recognise the AC adapter and is running on battery. Also, the screen does not dim properly, just larger increments of brightness and darkness. Have I blown a fuse, wrecked the machine, or should I try something like re-setting the Power Manager? more powerbook 3400 questions
Could someone please answer some more powerbook 3400 questions: 1. I see from the Service Manual that the in the Environmental section on page 43, it says the shipping, non- operating altitude is 15,000 feet maximum and I wanted to send it by Fed Ex from Australia to America. Does this mean you can't ship by air a powerbook without it being in a pressurised airline cabin? 2. I do not have double sided tape for the bottom of the keyboard so it touches the expansion ram module to keep it in place. Will any brand of double sided tape do? 3. I do not have a plastic insulation sheet for the hard drive. Will a bit of clear plastic from the front of a school folder do, or will it cause a heat problem? powerbook 3400 qustions
Hello, I have a few questions about a powerbook 3400. 1. I wish to replace the latch and have the part. I found pictures to assist with hard drive replacement at www.genchan.com however there is nothing about the screen assembly. Is there a website giving instructions for taking apart the screen? 2. I want to put into the 3400 a hard drive from a 5300. That hard drive metal cage has a plastic piece separating the disk from the metal cage and a metal foil type of insulator. However, there is no plastic and no metal foil separation in the 3400. Is either one needed to prevent shorting out? 3. Is the screen for the 3400 exactly the same as for the original G3 or did Apple put in slightly better components in the same size screen? Thanks. -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... 5300 questions
Hi, 1. I have a powerbook 5300 and bought a used Global Village 56k pcmcia modem. When I open the GV icon on the desktop, I can choose a compression type for the modem: MNP4, V.42, MNP5, V.42bis, MNPIVEC, etc. Which should I choose (what do they stand for?) or should I click on 'None'. 2. I have a Stylewriter 2500 and the modem plugged in. After I put the computer to sleep, it will not wake up. I have to re-start with the Control, Option, and Power keys. How do I get it to awake properly? Thanks. -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and... When I double click it to open, the dialogue box says 'JPEG View cannot be opened because it cannot be found'. (I have rebuilt the desktop to try to solve this) 2. I have an ALPS Glidepoint external device. Does anyone remember the url to download the software to program it? 3. Does anyone hav the url to download the program Dictaphone/Noteplayer that allows you to record by clicking the Dictaphone icon in the Control Strip? 5300 sad mace face
HI, I am seting up a powerbook 5300 to use a GV 56k pcmcia modem and a Stylewriter 2500 printer. It had been working well with neither connected. For the last two days I get the chimes when I try to start up with both devices connected and the first time I got the sad Mac face. It then shows a blank screen. When I insert the Disk Tools floppy and force it to start by pressing the Control, Command and Power keys, it starts. I then run Disk First Aid from the floppy and it finds no problem when it verifies the hard disk. Is there a secret to starting with the pcmcia modem in or out, or the Stylewriter printer on or off? Or do I wait for the wind to blow in a certain direction for guaranteed start up? Thanks for any help offered. -- PowerBooks is sponsored by http://lowendmac.com/ and...
