NO NO NO
The PB batteries are rechargeable cells, they look like watch cells but are
NOT the same, watch cells are primary cells (non rechargeable) and will not
work as replacements (they will leak or worse).
The cells you need are rechargeable coin cells that can be got from most
suppliers (RS or Farnell in the UK), these usually come with tags attached.

Sure. All PB batteries I've seen are just watch cells wired in series or
parellel. Anyone with a battery welding tool (since they don't take solder

some new ones in for you. Chefck your local Batteries Plus or call Mike,

The PRAM battery can be
very expensive, (http://www.ebatts.com/modelselect.asp?Model=1137514 has the
5
V Lithium Rechargeable with electrical connectors for $54.95 U.S.) but I
picked
up 2 on eBay some time back for $15.00 U.S. each.

I had mine rebuilt at a local Batteries Plus, since the cells are common and
cheap, the repair only ran me about $8, and they did it while I waited
(about 5 minutes).

I've done numerous, but I'm in Las Vegas, Nevada. (A little far to travel,
although many do like to come here for some reason!) The PRAM battery can be
very expensive, (http://www.ebatts.com/modelselect.asp?Model=1137514 has the 5
V Lithium Rechargeable with electrical connectors for $54.95 U.S.) but I picked
up 2 on eBay some time back for $15.00 U.S. each. They are happily residing in
my upgraded 1400s, which lost all of their startup glitches after the
replacement.

I'd suggest starting up plugged in, sleep it, then run it off battery to see
how long it lasts. My 1400c runs for 30mins - 45 mins on battery, sometimes
longer if I set the screen to b&w, but if I boot it off battery I get about
5-10 minutes. That should tell you if it is the battery or not.

Another thing I did was shut off the startup memory test, hold down the
option+command keys when you open the memory control panel, then shut off
the check box, that is if you are sure the memory is good. It will speed
startup some.

ps, I still am using my original battery (jan 97), battery recond. brought
it back to life. My Sonnet upgrade has helped also.

Oh and take out all pcmcia cards not in use, they will draw power unless you
have that option turned on in teh mem control that will stop power to unused
cards.

My friend's 1400cs 117 has been crashing a lot especially waking from sleep.
This is all on a freshly installed System. I have also run DiskWarrior and
reset the power manager etc.

Not long ago someone mentioned that changing the PRAM battery helped them so
I was thinking maybe to do that. But I do feel a bit iffy about possibly
messing up her 'book though I managed to install ram and ethernet card ok.
Is there anyone in London area or the East of England who is up for doing
this? Or can recommend someone - or where to get the battery?
I'd really like her to enjoy this little Mac, and when it behaves - she
does!

With all good wishes
Brian

Re: 1400c battery

2003-02-12 Thread David Allen
You may have a bad battery, it may need to be charged, the PRAM battery
may need to be replaced, or the PRAM or Power Manager may need to be
reset.

Does the 1400 startup on the AC power adapter?

The "Help" menu should explain how to reset the Power Manager/PRAM.
Replacing the PRAM battery is not for the feint of heart, as it requires
taking almost the entire 1400 apart and working with very delicate wires
and connectors. The PRAM battery is located beside the touch pad in the
bottom case.

What kind of battery is it? Some can be rebuilt. You can take to any
battery shop and they can test it. John Brownsberger
