Azure does have Virtual Machine. Let me have a look. Right now I don't have
any idea about VM.
Thanks a lot.
Since the inventory program days you have always shown me the right path.

Mobile App

2019-06-18 Thread Ajoy Khaund
Hi All,

Need some advice on the way forward.
I have been developing apps in Vfp6 & 9 for quite some time with a lot of
help from you all.
Last year I redid an application using Winforms and Azure Sql database.

Now I want to develop a mobile app to view reports from the Azure Sql
database

Mobile App will have say a login screen
then an option to select a report
a date option will be there and say a submit button
The report must display.

No data entry in the phone as of now.

Which way should I look? I am looking at Xamarin since I have Visual Studio.
If anyone knows any better options please advice.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Thanks.
I have reversed the order as of now.

1. Reports Only
2. Data Entry Only (NO Master Entry)
3. Manager (Data Entry + Master Entry)
4. Admin (All Forms & create users)

Application User Level Access

2018-05-13 Thread Ajoy Khaund
Hi All,

In my applications I have added a user table where there will be field to
define the user level.

Level - 1 Admin: can add users and has access to all
Level - 2 Manager - cannot add user but has access to all others
Level - 3 Operator - can add transactions but cannot create masters (eg.
add/edit a customer)

Now in the master entry forms in the Add & Edit button I can put some code
to prevent
Level 3 users from adding or editing.

I want Level - 3 users to be able to view the masters. So for them add &
edit button will be disabled
or some code will b there to tell them they have no access.

Is there a better way?
Any ideas which u are implementing are welcome.

I am also learning. I have made one form using winforms and trying to

However I am yet to understand how to design the classes or each master dbf

Thanks

This VPN is included with windows or do we need to download it separately.

2016-09-29 Thread Ajoy Khaund
ok thanks.

Mike u are into MySQL for your apps. Are your clients connecting to local
databases or online databases.

If local databases then if someone wants to connect from another location
how can it be done. Add IPAddress to the connection string?

If online databases how are you setting the firewall settings for allowing
ipaddress.

I tried MS Azure. I have a dynamic Ipaddress so I realized every time I
reconnect to the internet I have to reset the firewall settings in Azure to
let my pc connect. I was planning something similar for my client when he
travels. If he connects from a hotel he wont be able to keep resetting the
firewall. How to go about that?

Similarly how to prevent any hackers from accessing the local database vide
internet & deleting all data.

Thanks

This is open to all. maybe I will have to open a new thread.

2016-07-16 Thread Ajoy Khaund
Dear All,

I need to know if I can generate the payslip of a worker in my payroll
module in
Assamese (Local language of Assam in India).

We are using English(UnitedStates) languge windows OS.

Fonts for this local language are available. Is it possible to change
say the Gross Salary from English to another language while printing.

Kindly point me in the right direction.

Thanks all.

Re: Data Entry Form using Sql Server SPT

2014-06-24 Thread Ajoy Khaund
Dave,
Thanks for the write up. I got it going. There were some hiccups ofcourse.

How do you create a data object?

Do you create a class with all fields of the table as properties?

Please let me know as I want to make the same form in all the ways possible
and then choose which I like best.

Initially I liked CA's but then found SPT to be easier.

Thanks

 Ajoy,
The usual procedure of using a data object which is an object containing
the current, or in the case of a new record, a blank set of data is used.
You do the changes to the data object by binding the object properties to
the form controls (textbox etc) and then you can freely manipulate the data
in your program using business logic to validate the fields and then commit
the object for writing to the database - or adding if it is a new record.

I won't go into the areas of Biz objects at this time as it opens up a
whole area of discussion but simply but in simple terms you

 1. Load the form

 2. In the form init() create an object property to hold the current record
or blank record as an object with properties and bind the object properties
 to the form controls.

 3. Get the data record from the underlying table then Scatter the data
from the record into the form data object. You can scatter a blank record
which will set the data object up for insertion (see scatter blank memo)

 4. Enter/Modify and/or validate the data object properties using standard
controls on the form as the data will now be bound to the form controls.
Nothing is written away to the DB at this time and only the data object is
 modified

 5. If you want to write the data back to the DB then gather the data back
from the form data object and write/commit it to the underlying DB table.

In this way you can use the same logic on VFP or SQL remote data as the
only change needed is the rear/write functions. You can do this using SPT
or Table adapters. Personally I don't like TA's, but this is just my
 opinion.

Please don't take this as the only way top do it as I am just trying to
show you how you need to separate the data from the underlying database by
loading it into an object upon which you perform all the data
manipulation/verification etc before writing it away.

My vfp forms connected to master tables are been coded using this method.
I have the controls on a pageframe on the first page with
Add,Edit,Delete,find navigation buttons.
In my second page I have the data in a grid of main columns.

More then one page I have for say products table etc.

Thanks how are you creating the views?

Please let me know. I saw the makeupdateable function in the downloads.
Is it that?

 * Populate the data object inc memo fields but with blank data
 oObj=Thisform.oData_Obj
 scatter name oObj memo blank

The object Thisform.oData_Obj will then contain a list of properties
relating to each field name in the cursor
e.g try opening the oObj in the debugger and you will see the properties

 ? oObj.character_field_1

so you end up with Properties like:
 oObj.Customer_Id
 oObj.Primary_Key ... etc etc

The addition of the word blank after the scatter simply initializes the
object with field properties containing no data.

When you come to disperse the data back to your underlying tables, in VFP
assuming you are pointing at the correct record to update it is simple done
 by:

 oObj=Thisform.oData_Obj
 *
 select cursor
 gather name oObj memo

Once again gon't gorget the word memo or any binary/blob or memo fields
 will not be gathered.

You can use the same technique to update the SPT cursor for committing to
 the non DB table.

 Dave,
Thanks for the write up. I got it going. There were some hiccups ofcourse.

How do you create a data object?

Do you create a class with all fields of the table as properties?

Please let me know as I want to make the same form in all the ways
possible and then choose which I like best.

Initially I liked CA's but then found SPT to be easier.

The usual procedure of using a data object which is an object

 data is used.
You do the changes to the data object by binding the object properties
to the form controls (textbox etc) and then you can freely manipulate
the data in your program using business logic to validate the fields
and then commit the object for writing to the database - or adding if it
 is a new record.

I won't go into the areas of Biz objects at this time as it opens up a
whole area of discussion but simply but in simple terms you

  1. Load the form

  2. In the form init() create an object property to hold the current
record or blank record as an object with properties and bind the
object properties to the form controls.

  3. Get the data record from the underlying table then Scatter the data
from the record into the form data object. You can scatter a blank
record which will set the data object up for insertion (see scatter
  blank memo)

  4. Enter/Modify and/or validate the data object properties using
standard controls on the form as the data will now be bound to the form
 controls.
Nothing is written away to the DB at this time and only the data
  object is modified

  5. If you want to write the data back to the DB then gather the data
back from the form data object and write/commit it to the underlying
 DB table.

Data Entry Form using Sql Server SPT

2014-06-23 Thread Ajoy Khaund
Hi Folks,

In my vfp apps in a form I generally have a Add Edit button along
with navigation buttons. On clicking on Add btn say an append blank is
issued. The caption of Add Edit button changes to Save
revert...

How are you all approaching this with back end servers. Say to enter
data to a table
having about 10 fields. In some apps I have seen a form with blank
controls. The user enters data and click on a Insert or Add Rec. or
Save button.

To edit a record there is a Find button on retrieving the records
make changes and click on Save or Update button.

Your inputs will help me to get the approach right.

Thanks a lot.

 Ajoy,
If you are using SPT and you are retrieving a cursor from SQL Server then
you set the attributes of the cursor to reflect the update behaviour using
 cursorsetprop().

You need to set the Keyfieldlist, Tables, UpdatableFieldList, Updatetype
and Wheretype properties. Then the cursor will update automatically using
 the tableupdate() method.

To check if any fields have been updated in the cursor you can use the VFP
OLDVAL() function to determine if any field has changed or set your own
trigger in the Interactivechange event of the fields on the form.

As for updating, you can obviously also update individual records using
spt in standard SQl i.e update cursor set oldfield = newfield where
 where if you want.

It is also worth looking at tableadapters as they take all the hard work
out of SQL if you are averse to manually programming. Personally I don't
like them but I do use them on occasions. Create the cursoradapter them to
a separate class for ease of re-use then you can easily add them into your
dataenvironment and just use them like native VFP cursors.

On Profox there is a small routine MakeCursorUpdateable (I think) by Paul
McNett that will point you in the right direction for cursorsetprop() if
you are confused by the VFP documentation. I must admit that the
documentation isn't great. Alternatively ask away on here.

I have my own set of classes that do all the SQL stuff automatically that
you could have but I think it would be too complex at the level you are
currently at. Once you master cursors in SPT they it may be of use to you.

 Hi All,

I have an employee master form.
In the load event I can query and get all the records down to a cursor. I
have an edit button in the form. Now the user may edit one or more fields
in the form say having 50 fields.

On save how do I write the UPDATE command if the user has say edited two

The WinXp CD which I have is original. I had no problem for the last 8

Here you can multiply by 100
Take INT value
Divide by 100

So 1.9256*100 = 192.56
INT(192.56) = 192
192/100 = 1.92

As requested, below are the methods necessary to create a cursor adapter
 on the fly

 use thus:

 thisform.makeadapter('customers','curCustomers',[select * from customers])

As for authentication, I use SQL Server authentication

 Connect through ODBC

 local cConnString

 cConnString=[DRIVER=SQL Server Native Client
 10.0;SERVER=MAINSERVER\SQLEXPRESS;UID=sa;PWD=12345;APP=Microsoft Visual
 FoxPro;WSID=INVOICINGPC;DATABASE=TESTDATABASE;LANGUAGE=English;]

 thisform.nHandle = SQLStringConnect(cConnString )

BTW don't ever use the master data, you could screw things up badly.
Just create a test database, put some tables in it, fill them with data
 and go on.

I strongly advise you to read the books from Hentzenwerke, Megafox,
Internet Applications. etc. That's where you get all the information
 you need

Running the risk of overkill in this matter, I use CA's assiduously in
all my apps, but always in code, not the wizard. Even in client/server
situations, CA's are great, simply because you can insert, delete or
modify your CA cursor as any regular VFP cursor and then, with a simple
tableupdate you get the underlying tables updated. With SPT you have to
code with the slight modifications demanded by T-SQL, which in some
cases is different from VFP syntax. A bit of extra work and care.

I developed a series of classes that build CA's in code by simply
passing parameters to the class and coding is much faster that way.

In any case, you can use a combination of SPT and CA's in the same
routine and both will work just as well. I guess it is a matter of
 choice or oportunity.

Subject: Re: Cursor Adapter in DE Question

It is a better way of doing things, to do your CA's in code and not in
the DE. You have greater control, especially if your select statement
involves more than one table. If you use the DE CA you would have to
change the select statement manually, because the wizard can only create
a select of just one table efficiently ( I mean, adding the joins
 properly)

Another thing you might consider, is not to use relations at all but sql
select statements to get the child table, based on the primary key of
the father table that has a correspondence in the child table as a
foreign key. IOW, get the primary key of the record in the father table,
then issue a select statement to get the child records based on that key
which should be the foreign key in the child.

 ie nPK = fathertable.pkfield

select * from childtable where foreingkeyfield = nPK

So every time you refresh your CA (you can use requery(), just like a
view ), get the PK of the record you just obtained, and use a select
statement as above to get your child records.

BTW, your child could be another CA or just a non-CA cursor, as you
 explained

The other thing that comes to mind is that the only way I find CA's
benefitial in a situation as the one you describe is when you need to
update the underlying table, otherwise, simple SPT statements would do
 just fine.

the parent table refreshes itself OK and reflecs this in the form.

However, when I add a child table that is NOT a cursor adapter but a VFP
table and then set up the relationship in the DE as you would with
standard VFP tables using a dragged link between the parent and child,
then when I Refill the parent table, the child doesn't reposition

Any Ideas this is driving me mad and I wish I'd stayed with SPT

Composite Key in Sql Server 2008

2011-09-21 Thread Ajoy Khaund
Hi,

I have a composite key in VFP like

Padl(empno,4,'0') + DTOS(kdate) + Str(shiftno,1)

I use this index to do a seek to find out if a record exists for a particular
employee on a particular date in a particular shift.

How can I do that in sql. I am going to use cursor adaptors.

TIA

Thanks.
I have a transactions table where before doing an entry I check if that
record exists by empno + date + shiftno. If the seek fails I add the records
else I overwrite existing records. Maybe in SQL server we have to do it
slightly differently.

CREATE UNIQUE NONCLUSTERED INDEX newKey ON YourTable

As a heads up. This index may never get used if the table is joined

@Stephen: SQL Server 2008 has a date field. Would that also keep the time
portion internally.

If I have to run a sql command to find if a record exists that's also fine
by me becoz. I suppose that query will be very fast compared to VFP.

Subject: Re: Composite Key in Sql Server 2008

I would create three indexes, one for each column, and use a WHERE
clause in SELECT, similar to this one:

 WHERE empno = ?m.empno AND kdate = ?m.kdate AND shiftno = ?m.shiftno

Note: using functions in expressions used in where is a performance
killer because those functions get evaluated for each and every
record. Index the columns and use WHERE properly. Character columns
should be defined as VARCHAR(n) and make sure no extra spaces go to
server with the actual values. In VFP this could be easily
accomplished by using SET VARCHARMAPPING. There's one more issue which
you may need to take care of: the ThisForm.txtName.Value expression
contains extra spaces at the end, which need to be trimmed out. This
could be done programatically, before sending the values to server, or
directly from the interface, by setting the Format property to F.

 Hope this helps.

Re: Copying SQL Data from one m/c to another

2011-08-27 Thread Ajoy Khaund
Currently I develop desktop applications with Vfp 6 9. The data entry to
the databases are been done by say operators in desktops. The owner
generally has a laptop and he likes to copy the data to his laptop in the
evening so that he can evaluate the work done so far.

Now the operators copy the data to a flash drive and gives it to the owner
when they leave for home. Will the sql process be as easy as that or very
different.

Read up on detach and reattach.

There are data meta databases as well as your database. The databases
have an ID for the SERVER they are on
detach will open up the ability to bring in a new server to as as the

Retrieve Data after pack index

2011-02-14 Thread Ajoy Khaund
Hi,

After deleting some records and issuing a PACK and then deleting the indexes
for the table and creating the indexes again is it possible by anyone to
retrieve the deleted the data. Is there any software by which someone will be
able to retrieve the data. Any kind of information will help. Sometimes some
people ask these questions and I am at a loss of words. If any software can
recover it please let me know.

Currently what I am telling them that's its not possible that its something
like you have an excel sheet of say 100 rows. You then delete 20 rows and save
it. After saving whether it possible to recover the deleted rows??

Thanks in advance.

 Anyone? Like the NSA?

Yes. If you're trying to keep secrets from people, you shouldn't keep
them on computers. There are ways your disk image could be seized and
the temp files used in the PACK and then deleted could be recovered
and read. Browse around in the temp directories. But that's not all
 that likely.

If you're keeping your data on a network storage device, it may make
backups. If you're using Windows, it may store your files in a restore
 point.

Realize that anything entered into a computer might show up at the
worst possible moment. You regularly hear about scandals where someone
thought the email they deleted was gone forever. That's naive.

Do you make backups? Don't forget to shred them. And burn the bits.

There are ways to prevent, or mitigate all of these risks, but you
need to be careful about your answers there. If it's the company's
price list, which all their customers already know, perhaps a PACK is
sufficient. But if it's information that could cost peoples their
 lives or livelihoods

Currently what I am telling them that's its not possible that its

Well, that's pretty unlikely. Sometimes Excel stores stuff in its
spare spaces. I still wouldn't keep my secrets on it.

Sqlserver 2005 or 2008

Hi,

I did some testing in sqlserver in dec 2009 and am finding some time again

How are you all keeping a date field like birthdate or hiredate in 2005. Are

version 2008 has a date field.

Thanks for any advice.

It depends on what you want to do. If you want to be able to pick up
your laptop and take it out on the porch to enjoy the breeze, you'll
want wifi. Which adapter (802.11b, g, or n) the laptop has determines
what you need. If you don't want to run cables all over the place, you
can do it all wirelessly these days. My preference is to wire the
stationary items (desktop 'puter, printers) and use wireless for the
laptops. However, our needs seem to be greater than yours - three
levels of computers, mobile laptops, business home office, etc.

I'm a big fan of print servers for the printers, to remove the
requirement that the associated computer be running in order to print.

If it's compatible with your needs, the D-Link DIR-655 is a bargain.

NO problem at all as Studio needs a Java VM. Just make sure you look at
 the
installation options carefully or uyou'll end up with open office
 installed
and a nes search engine toolbar. They are obvious to ignore as long as you

Dave,

I have installed Vfp6 successfully but I am unable to install SP5 as mdac2.6
just wont install. Is there any workaround like copy the entire vfp98

the jet database components or something like that.

Thanks

 Hi,

I recently deployed a biometric fingerprint reader for time attendance.
The local supplier gave us an ocx written in VB so that I can communicate
with the device in real time. This device is on our LAN and I can connect
it through its local IP and port number.

This ocx is working fine in VB for real time event handling. But in VFP 7
and VFP 9, sometime it does not capture the real time event properly. If I
minimize and maximize my program's main window then it captures and shows
 the event data on screen.

Why Foxpro hangs while reading the data from the device and refreshes when
I manually minimize and maximize the program?

 TIA

I need another killer idea for this year.

Previewing thru XFRX

2010-01-07 Thread Ajoy Khaund
Hi,

I have just purchased XFRX and trying to use it in my current setup.

Currently I have a base form and a report previewer form. My main form is a Top
level form. In my base from I have a method which accepts a report name and I
have the following code there to preview the report.

Lparameters tcRepName
tcForm = TaReportPreview

Local loForm
loForm = NEWOBJECT(tcForm,'akform.vcx')
With loForm
.NAME = loForm Must use 'loForm' else it gives error
 Keyboard {ctrl+f10}
 .VISIBLE = .T.
Endwith

Report FORM tcRepName PREVIEW WINDOW loForm

Return .T.

1 Now without having to change the syntax of calling this form how do I
incorporate code inside this method to call the XFRX previewer.

2 I have tried to put the cntXFRXMultiPage container on this reportpreview
form. Its working but the toolbar goes below screen limits and the preview does
not center.

Any help will do. I am send this ti Martin also.

Rich Text Control + Report

2009-11-09 Thread Ajoy Khaund
Hi,

I am using a Rich Text Control to input data to a report and then the data from
the memo field is converted to a GEN field and connected to a active-x control
in a frx.
Now in the form where I have the control say the length of a text line is 7

The width of the control is 7.5 inches so space is not a problem.

Re: Rich Text Control + Report

2009-11-09 Thread Ajoy Khaund
Its not that. I have to tweak it some where. Before i do the preview if I
browse the cursor and open the general field the every 7.5 inch lines have
become
5.5 inch on odd lines and say 2 inch on even lines. So if I double click on
the output from the general field the lines all become 7.5 inchs.

Then if I close and gen the frx its okay.

The output goes to a word document before getting appended to the general
field. Word by default gives me a layout of 6 inches with a left margin of
1.25 and a right margin of 1.25 inches. So I have to get the default word
document margins correct. I wonder if I can set the one which gets created
temporarily or I have to keep a template.

Let me work on that. Thanks for getting me thinking. It's a step forward.

 just sum it up:

 - use a UPS (uninterrupted power supply) to guard against data
 loss/corruption due to power fluctuation
 - make backups daily (our software has its own backup mechanism)
 - run the cleanup daily (our software has its own cleanup routine for
packing data and trying to enforce SOME sort of referential integrity)
 - configure the anti-virus software to EXCLUDE our application and data

 years
my fixdbf program didn't work. Upon further inspection of the affected
 tables (8),
noticed that the contents was not there, there were filled with spaces,
 so
 no wonder,
 nothing to recover.

Had to restore from a backup and that solve the problem. Now I'm
 wondering
 is it a
hard disk crashing or network failure, well I don't think so, worked in
 this
 scenario
before and the tables either dissapear completely (files deleted) or some
 records are replaced
or added with junk values, or is there any utility or antivirus that does
this? so I can remove it.

 Regards.

I don't think that anyone would be naive enough to claim that any
networked computer would be immune to an attack. But the point is
that *nix was designed from the outset to be a networked OS, so it is
inherently not as vulnerable as a Windows box. There are still many
exploits that can be found in apps that can compromise the box, no
matter what OS - even OS X or Ubuntu. It's just a much higher bar to
 clear.

Let's also not forget that there's a big market for anti-virus and
 anti-spyware
software for Windows machines (and next to no market for these on Mac and
 Linux).

So even if the AV companies aren't directly writing exploits, it sure is
 in their
best interests for exploits to keep appearing, and for the image to be
 that AV is
 necessary.

I've been running my WinXP box for years now with no AV installed, and no
 virus
infections. Every now and then I run a scan of the filesystem using ClamAV
 on Linux,
and sure it finds some virus email attachments, but they've never been run
 so there
 wasn't any harm done.

I've only recently installed AV software on my client's network, because
 of some
minor spyware problems over the past few months. This is after over 10
 years of them
being on the Internet with Windows NT, 2K, and XP.

So there's definitely hype over virus threats, but there's also some best
 practices
we've followed, such as having a robust perimeter firewall, not running IE
 or
Outlook/Outlook Express, having good spam filtering, turning off Windows
 File and
Print Sharing (because they are unnecessary and dangerous), not letting
 normal users
write to the Windows or Program Files directories (a policy I've had in
 place the
entire time), using secure tunnels, and also having trained, educated
 users.

Try turning off your background AV sometime. You may be pleasantly
 surprised at how
much nicer it is to work on your machine.

Vfp Install Shield

2009-07-19 Thread Ajoy Khaund
Hi All,

I use Install Shield which comes with Vfp to distribute my apps. I have set
the directory as say MyAppDir. I have not specified any drive as the user
can select that.

Now what I have noticed is when the installer runs in nearly every PC it
selects a random drive to install. Say the PC has C,d,e, f. The install say
shows F:\MyAppDir. Ok I change the drive to D:\MyAppDir and do the install.
No problem. Now when the app runs mostly when I open a form with a activex
date control the installer run and creates the directory F:\MyAppDir. If I
delete it it gets created again. What am I setting wrong ?
Not much of a problem but I find it irritating sometimes.

TIA.

I have not specified any drive as the user can select that.

My recommendation for you is to have INSTALLDIR (set up under the General
Information (Step 1)) default to the standard [ProgramFilesDir]\MyAppDir,
 or
if you want it to something else just hardcode it. I would not leave out
 the
a drive. Then under the Dialogs (under step 4) make sure the Destination
Folder dialog is set up so the user can select the folder they want to
 install it in.

Now when the app runs mostly when I open a form with a activex date
control the installer run and creates the directory F:\MyAppDir. If I
 delete
it it gets created again. What am I setting wrong ?

Now the ActiveX control issue is a separate issue. Where is it getting
installed? Are you using a Merge Module or are you directing the
registration on your own via the files section?

You have to ensure it is getting registered no matter where you choose to
 have it installed.

Like Office 2007. Research found the VFPX Tab menu project and the ARG

is free ARG is 120 dollars. Tab Menu is sparse on documentation whilst
ARG seem to be documented much better.

I am asking for comments, suggestions and other areas to look.

Subject: VFP9 SP1 - need to create a statement with the report writer
-multiple trx for a single client on one page.

I need to create a statement using the report writer. I have created a
 lot
of documents but none with multiple transactions on a page for each
 client.
is there an example of an invoice/statement/report in the VFP samples
 that
 anyone would recommend?

Also, we have several clients who want custom reports. Our program
 gives
 the
client full access to all tables, but unfortunately it requires the
 ability
to program in vfp. Is anyone interested in doing some projects like
 this?
 It
would probably be a quick low cost project but could lead into other
 things.

I use my hotmail account. They are giving 25 GB where you can store what you
want. I put up the exe's in the public folder and my clients then easily
download them.

If u r travelling you can also upload your projects to private folders and

Open debugger, go to watch window, enter Set(Talk), hit Enter, it
will go in the list below that textbox, double click in the left of
the expression and a red dot will show up. Now run the report without
closing the debugger. Whenever the setting for Set Talk will change,
your program will stop and the Trace window will show the like that
made the change. Now go there, fix it, recompile the app and you're
 set.

 Hi Cathy,

I have just done a clean install of Vfp9 and then updated sp2 and then
 added
three hot fixes. The fix given by you in your blog for 'Set Talk On'
 while
 running a report

Modify the fxListener class of the _ReportListener class library and
 change
the code in the LoadReport method. Simply move
 This.setFRXDataSessionEnvironment() so it comes before
This.createHelperObjects() and the problem is solved.

has not worked for me. is there anything else other then this.

Any help will be gr8 or I will have to revert to Sp1.

I need to create a statement using the report writer. I have created a
 lot
of documents but none with multiple transactions on a page for each
 client.
is there an example of an invoice/statement/report in the VFP samples
 that
 anyone would recommend?

Also, we have several clients who want custom reports. Our program gives
 the
client full access to all tables, but unfortunately it requires the
 ability
to program in vfp. Is anyone interested in doing some projects like
 this?
 It
would probably be a quick low cost project but could lead into other

Save fails sometimes Vfp9 Sp1

2009-04-02 Thread Ajoy Khaund
Hi All,

I am using a view in a form for a order entry screen. The form works fine but
sometimes a 'Save' of the view fails. Then the view is rebuilt the 'Save' works
again. I cannot reproduce it. Should I close and open the view when user clicks
on the 'Add' button.

The form works fine but sometimes a 'Save' of the view fails.

Have you checked the result of the TABLEUPDATE() to see if it fails, and
then check AERROR() to see what the internal reason is?

Sounds like you have a data conflict.

Thankz for taking so much of your time. I really appreciate it. Well it
could be two different forms were opened which have similar views. Let me
look into it. I remember the user was going and checking a few things when
the Orders form was open.

The send form which opens to add child records open in the default data
session.

I have changed the wheretype to 1. Frankly speaking I have never understood
that. It worked in setting 3 and so I never changed it. Setting 1 makes
sense.

Your app might be used by a single user, but the app can be effectively
multiuser with private datasessions and two instances of the same form or
different forms with the same data.

The Key and Modified will return a data conflict if the same record is
edited in two forms. What happens is each form the view is queried. One
query is has the changes committed. The second form tries to commit the
changes. If the key or any of the fields being modified in the second
instance are different than the table the view cannot be committed. If
 form
one changed the customer name field, and the second one changed the
 address
field the second view will get committed.

What you are seeing with the view being requeried is the buffer get a
 fresh
set of the data from the table. This lessens the chance of the conflicts.
 If
you changed the view to key only you implement a last one wins scenario.
Whoever saves the data last always has their information committed to the
table. This works for certain business situations.

This second form, is it using the default data session (which is the same
 as
the calling form) or is it a private data session? If it is private and it
opens the data and commits changes, it would effectively cause the problem
you are seeing provided the error you are getting is a data conflict - and
have not told us the results of this. We could be chasing our tail here.

 Hi Kurt

Sorry for not replying earlier. If I get you correctly, you need to import
 an XML file into VFP.
To be quite honest with you, I never used a schema file. But I do send
 data
over the web in the manner I showed you in my earlier post.
 The process is this:

The store creates an XMLAdapter object and loads different cursors into it
with the daily sales, cash receipts, stock positions, etc.
Then it sends the resulting xml file through the internet to the head
 office.
At the head office they convert this xml file into the contained cursors,
using the XMLAdapter class, as I showed you how.
Then, the program uses those cursors to integrate the data into the main
 head office files.

Now, there are many ways you can send the XML file to the head office:

 ftp
 email
 webservice

If all of the above fails, you can simply load the xml file in a pendrive
and have a biker take the device to head office every day. It seems like a
joke, but I actually have one client who does just that, simply because
 the
store is in the city, the head office is in the outskirts of the city and
they have a lousy internet connection (it is the IP provider's fault, with
frequent disconnections). So the simple solution, and super effective, is
 to
have this guy jump onto his motorbike and speedily deliver the pendrive to
HQ. (one of the delights of living in this country, there is always a
solution available when technology plays against you - (;) )

 Hey there Rafael,

Thanks for the input. In between the time I wrote the original message
for help - and now - I actually got something figured out. I was able to
pull in 2 database tables into an XML file, and even have those 2 files
linked via a Set Relation. Then I had found the .ToCursor command and
was able to output the data into cursors.

Now, during my experimentations - I found that if I double-clicked on a
Schema file (XSD) - MS Visual Studio on my PC here at work automatically
opened up the Schema file for viewing. So, since this MS VS tool allowed
me to open up a Schema file - I figured I would see what I else I could
 do.

I had this sample XML file - an EDI Order file - for which I eventually
need to import into the VFP database system here. Problem is - I did not
have a Schema file for this XML file. And, since I figured I needed the
Schema in order for me to import the file into VFP - I opened up the XML
file in MS VS - and I found I could Export from MS VS a Schema file.

At that point I tried to use this newly created Schema file, along with
the sample XML file - but, I ended up getting a strange error when the
.LoadXML command attempted to execute. It claimed that:
 XML Schema is Too complex!

When I opened that Schema file up in MS VS - the tree diagram shows it
as 4 levels deep. Can that be the case - that VFP and the XMLAdapter is
unable to handle something like 4 levels deep???

 TIA,
 -K-

 Hi there Kurt

 try this:

** open two tables, put them inside an xml and send the xml away

 Clear All
 Close All

 Public oXML,cXML

Use clientes In 0 Alias customers
Use proveed In 0 Alias suppliers

 oXML=CreateObject('XMLAdapter')
 oXML.addtableschema('customers')
 oXML.addtableschema('suppliers')

 oXML.toXML('cXML')
 Release oXML
 Use in customers
 Use in suppliers

** you now have a property in memory called cXML

** you can send this property to a receiving computer via Internet

** at the other side do this
 Public oXML
 oXML=CreateObject('XMLAdapter')
 oXML.loadxml(cXML)
 oXML.tables(1).tocursor(.f.,'curCustomers')
 oXML.tables(2).tocursor(.f.,'curSuppliers')

 Select curCustomers
 Browse
 Select curSuppliers
 Browse
 Clear All
 Close All

Combo in Grid Vfp9

2009-02-04 Thread Ajoy Khaund
Hi,

I have a grid with three columns to enter terms for an invoice. The first
column is description of the term, the second column is to enter percentage and
the third column is to enter amount.
If the Term is connected to a Tax code then in column2 a drop-down combo will
allow a taxcode selection.

To show the combo or textbox I have set the dynamic control property and its
working.

The controlsource for the combo is another column. How do I make the combo show
the right description. Now the percentage is getting overwritten by the
listindex of the combo.

Anythoughts

Re: Multiple reports, side-by-side, same page

2009-02-03 Thread Ajoy Khaund
Have four fields in your cursor Say field1,field2,field3,field4
Scan customer
Append blank and fill up field1 and field2
endscan

scan vendor
fill up field3 and field4 by replace and append if vendor list is longer
then customer list
endscan

then inventory list and order number list.

for header you can fill field1 with Customer List and have a field for
making it bold. say boldfield1 L. set it to .T. when filling a header.

Hope this helps.

Subject: Multiple reports, side-by-side, same page

 Hi all,

I have a request to produce several very short reports, but they can't be
 on
separate pages. In fact, they need to be side-by-side on as few pages as
possible using different sets of data.

For example, imagine the left side of the page has a report called
Customers and lists CustomerNumber, CustomerName. And on the right side,
there's another report called Vendors that lists VendorNumber,
 VendorName.

Below those two reports, are two more. On the left side of the page,
Inventory lists PartNumber, PartName. And on the right side, there's a
report called Orders which lists OrderNumber and DueDate.

 Etc., etc., etc.

Using the VFP Report Designer, is this possible?

 Thanks very much,

 John

Instead of the PDF, check if you can see the report in the xfrx preview
 container.

Evaluating XFRX

2009-01-26 Thread Ajoy Khaund
Hi,

I have downloaded XFRX for Vfp9 to folder called XFRX into my D drive.

I have a personal accounts package so I am trying XFRX there.I have set the
path to D:\XFRX and D:\XFRX\UTREPLISTENER where I have unzipped the utility
report listener.

Now in a form after generatin the report cursor I have added the following
lines:

*Thisform.ReportPreview(gl)

SET CLASSLIB TO (HOME()+ffc\_reportlistener)

Local loSession, lnRetval

loSession = Evaluate(xfrx('XFRX#INIT'))

loxfrx = XFRX(XFRX#LISTENER)

lnRetval = loxfrx.SetParams(d:\output.pdf,,PDF)

If lnRetval = 0

Report Form GL Object loxfrx Nopageeject

* Report Form report2 Object loxfrx

Else

? lnRetval

Endif

I see a wait window in the side which shows pages 1 to 5 been rendered but the
pdf generated cannot be opened. Pdf generation is not so important for me. How
do I get the previewer ? Or is it not available in the evaluation version. I
want to try excel and text reports mainly.

2009-01-23 Thread Ajoy Khaund
Hi All,

I have a cursor (desc C(25),percentage N(6,2),amount N(10,2),taxcode C(1))

The grid which I have made has three columns.
For rows where taxcode is blank textbox has to be displayed in all columns.

For rows where taxcode is not empty it must display a combobox in column 2
to pick the taxcode to be applied.

TIA

Vfp9 Try command

2009-01-17 Thread Ajoy Khaund
Hi All,

I am downloading data from a logger through a serial port device. The data
string from the serial port has junk for the date field as a result of which an
error is coming. How can I put it in a Try block. The over all code is like:

Scan

Try
ldate =  something
ldate = something date time
error over here

catch
Messagebox()
LOOP

endtry
Endscan

Is this how it is done. I am getting my msgbox but I still get a vfp error
message. How to avaoid that.
