Re: Has anyone implemented List & Label?

2017-01-08 Thread Sytze de Boer
Hi Everyone

This is Sytze's son, I am writing because he passed away on Friday (sudden
heart attack while mowing the lawns, very quick, the way he wanted) and I
know he was an avid reader on this forum and often commented to me about
his gleanings he received from it.
I dont think he met any of you in person, but I know he spoke/emailed to
many of you personally and held many of you in high regards.
Would like to pass on this news in case any of you wondered why he went
quiet :)

Unit quantities

2016-12-20 Thread Sytze de Boer
In my accounting/invoicing system, clients create product items.

Let's say you sell Apples
You can sell
single apples
apples in a carton (e.g. 25 apples per carton)
cartons of apples on a pallet (e.g. 50 cartons per pallets)

I would like to know how YOU handle the Quantity management.
Do you create 3 different stock items or do you force people to enter 2
factors at invoice time. Qty and Factor, where factor can be (say) Single,
Carton or Pallet.

When you *see* your product profile,
do you see 1125 apples, X cartons and Y pallets and Z singles?

I hope I've explained this satisfactorily.
If its NF, please forgive me.

Photo capture

2016-12-07 Thread Sytze de Boer
I'm still totally lost trying to capture a photo via AVICAP32, so now
trying alternatives.

Using the Windows software Camera to take a photo.
All is good. It places the photo into a folder
C:\Users\Sytze\Pictures\Camera Roll

cdirs=FILETOSTR('picloc.txt')
ldirs=cdirs+"*.jpg"
lPics=ADIR(picfiles,ldirs)

trcask350 =cdirs+picfiles(1,1) &, it now knows the picture
trcask351  =Sys(5)+Curdir()+"PICS\"+Alltrim(Str(matties.code))+"_PHOTO.JPG"
**all is good at this stage

COPY FILE (trcask350) TO (trcask351)

Here's the problem
The file in the 2nd location is a zero byte file

Can anyone suggest why this is so?

Cameras

2016-12-04 Thread Sytze de Boer
Some time ago I asked about a new system i was developing.
Its just a small application.
I want a command button that will take a photo.

All is working fine except the photo. Well, not quite.

It's working fine on my Lenovo tablet/laptop, but nowhere else.

Then I spotted a small Lenovo Tablet at a local retail store. I asked if I
could test my software on the tablet. (Lenovo Miix 700)
It worked great.

But the cost was $1600 and I could buy this identical model from my *usual*
supplier for $850, so I got that one.
And my software does not take the photo.!!
The message comes up, "Using Video Capture: failed to connect"

Bernard Bout helped me with the software and I don't want to bother him
again when it is clearly a Windows issue

I'm about to give up on this and use Windows to take the photo, external to
my software.
When I use Windows (10) and type "Camera" all works fine except I can't
figure what the Executable is to activate the camera.

I hope I've explained this sufficiently.
Is there someone who can help me?

Word doc on invoice

2016-11-01 Thread Sytze de Boer
My client enters invoice details using Word.exe
I need to print the word document on a Fox report

I know there may be better ways, but this is how it has to run.

I can only find 1 way to do this.
i.e. Convert the Doc file to a Jpg file.
I have this working except for the fact the conversion is screwing the
size/font of the original Doc file.

Are there other ways?

Is this possible?

Defaulting the system to use Photo instead of Paint has solved the problem.

iCloud

2016-08-13 Thread Sytze de Boer
I have a client who has now lost their transaction history file for the 2nd
time.
By that I mean, all records between 23rd of March and sometime in August
2016

I've checked the file.
The records are not there with a deleted flag. They're gone, as if deleted
and packed.

It's most bizarre, and of course, my system gets the blame.

About the only thing I've noticed with their system is they run iCloud on
their Windows 10 pc. It pops up about every 15 secs in the right hand
system tray, to say it has synchronised some files.

My system has maybe 75 free standing dbf/fpt/cdx files.
The corrupted history file only has about 10,000 records, where, on 2
occasions, 120 records have disappeared.

Does anyone wish to comment.

With all this talk about platforms and languages, I'll throw this out there.

I would like to design something that will work on a mobile phone.
Apple and.or Android

1 Your system device name.

Can be a serial number or some other unique 10 character value

2 Start Date/time

3 A 10 digit number

4 Stop date/time

 Email this data to an email address

After emailing, a button to erase the data file.

In VFP terms, a table with columns like

SYSNAME C(10)

STARTTIME  (Date/time)

JOBNUM  N(10)

STOPTIME ( Date/time)

Is this a Xojo job I should attempt or is someone able to do this for me

Thank you all for your comments/opinions or otherwise.

My client has reversed the Win10 update and all is well again.
i.e. same pc, same office, no change to my application.

It simply fails to "append general", as in it skips this line in my code.
So now I have time to apply a work-around.

Re: Windows 10 and Append General

2016-07-26 Thread Sytze de Boer
Thank you all for your opinions/advice.

I am happy to NOT store data in the General field, since the data is
already saved in DOC format, which is unique to each invoice.
("INV"+alltrim(str(invnum))+".DOC"

My remaining issue though, is there some way I can print a report with the
DOC file details.? (In much the same way as printing a report with a JPG
file, or otherwise)

Windows 10 and Append General

2016-07-25 Thread Sytze de Boer
So I have used this approach for 20 years and it has always worked
My client prepares an invoice using Word
The file is "INV"+alltrim(str(invnum))+".DOC"
E.g. INV12345.DOC

The system says
append general rtfgen from  LINK

It is then easy to print this on the report

It seems this no longer works with Win10

My thoughts at this time are to no longer store the data in a General
field, and to print the DOC file as part of the report.
BUT, I can't figure how to do that.
I can print pictures, BMP's, Gif's etc, but not a Doc file

Can anyone throw some light on this, or offer some suggestions?

Grid scrollbars

2016-07-17 Thread Sytze de Boer
Well, I have this small package working on a tablet, almost.
(And I shouldn't say this without mentioning the great help from Bernard
Bout)

One aspect is annoying me though. It's almost impossible to scroll my grid.
For the moment I've placed 2 big arrows/Command buttons on the Form

The width of the scroll bar is pathetic and I think I've read somewhere
that *gestures* simply won't work with a VFP application.

Does someone want to comment (or otherwise assist me?)

Re: Menu

2016-07-12 Thread Sytze de Boer
Thank you all for trying to help me.
Recap the problem.
All sub menus of my mainmenu were greyed out, but not any procedures

All problems solved when I noticed my mainform was set to modal
I think I wasted 4 hours on this. The project budget is 176 hours so I
should be ok.

Thank you again.

Menu

2016-07-12 Thread Sytze de Boer
I think I'm going nuts

I have created a menu, its called WINB18
I can see the 4 files (mnx,mnt, mpr and mpx)

If I issue the command, DO WINB18.MPR, all options on the menu work just
fine
But, if I load the menu from my MAIN.prg, the menu shows, BUT the only
options that fire are those setup as a Procedure.
All the options listed under the Submenu are greyed out

I've gone to another application I have developed and all is fine with
those menus
It's only with this one, a new system under development.

For the life of me, I can't see what's different.
Can anyone help?

updating 2 forms

2016-07-05 Thread Sytze de Boer
Friends

In a new application I am developing, I have a Form with a Command button
The Command button opens a 2nd form

When my client enters data into this 2nd form, I need to show what is being
typed in a Text box on the 1st form.
Can that be done?

Re: VFP to XLSX file

2016-05-07 Thread Sytze de Boer
Fellow foxers

I have resolved the issue I encountered.
The following works well

sele foxdata
go top

With loExcel
   .Workbooks.Open(lcFile)
   scan
 Mdata =Alltrim(foxdata.sheet2) && EG "J16"
 Msheet=ALLTRIM(sheet1) && EG "Expenses"
 .Application.Worksheets("").Activate  && Select sheet
 .Range("").Select
 .Selection=foxdata.balance
   ETC

In other words, the problem was not with "" or & and all red herrings
In the end I found the problem that the sheets in the spreadsheet were
protected
Once I re-created the spreadsheet and did not make the sheets Protected,
all problems went away.

I just can't figure what I'm doing wrong with this code. Can anyone assist
The spreadsheet I want to place information into has about 15 Sheets
Foxdata has around 500 entries

With loExcel
   .Workbooks.Open(lcFile)
   Scan
  Select foxdata
  If !balance=0
 Mdata =Alltrim(foxdata.sheet2) && EG "J16"
 *Msheet="SHEET"+ALLTRIM(sheet1) && EG "Expenses"
 Msheet="SHEET"+ALLTRIM(STR(sheetnum)) && If I use the sheet number
instead
 .Sheet("").Select
This is where it comes up with error "invalid index"

 .Range("").Select
I get an occasional error here

 .Selection=foxdata.balance
  Endif

   Endscan
   .ActiveWindow.Close(xlSaveChanges)
   .Quit()
Endwith

Edit CSV file

2016-04-13 Thread Sytze de Boer
My client has asked me to export specified data to a CSV file
That's the easy part.
I have a CSV file with a header and 500 detail lines.

Now he has asked that
Column 1, Row 1, (the header) MUST be called *contactname
Column 7, Row 1, (some details) MUST be called *PAYDUEDATE
and a few others

As you can see, this is more than 10 characters.
I need some help here.
Whats the easiest way to automate this?

Outlook.com

2016-04-01 Thread Sytze de Boer
Hi

I use CDO to send emails via my Gmail address and it works just sweet
When I try the same with an email address some...@outlook.com, it fails
every time with a message The transport failed to connect to the server
(error 1429)

With Gmail, the port number is 465. From my research, Outlook.com uses 587
or 25
I think Outlook requires TSL but I don't see that option with CDO
I've tried the smtpserver as smtp-mail.outlook.com as well as
smtp-mail.live.com

This same process (below) works well with an internal Exchange server.

(Winkiss is a table)
TRY
   Local lcSchema, loConfig, loMsg, loError, lcErr
   lcErr = ""
   lcSchema = "http://schemas.microsoft.com/cdo/configuration/;
   loConfig = Createobject("CDO.Configuration")

   With loConfig.Fields
  .Item(lcSchema + "smtpserver")  = ALLTRIM(winkiss.opt15)
  .Item(lcSchema + "smtpserverport") = winkiss.portnum
  .Item(lcSchema + "sendusing")= 2
  .Item(lcSchema + "smtpauthenticate")  = .t.
  .Item(lcSchema + "smtpusessl")  = winkiss.usessl
  .Item(lcSchema + "sendusername")  = ALLTRIM(winkiss.usersig)
  .Item(lcSchema + "sendpassword")  = ALLTRIM(winkiss.empw)
  .Update
   Endwith
   loMsg = Createobject ("CDO.Message")

   With loMsg
  .Configuration = loConfig
  .From= ALLTRIM(winkiss.opt17)
  .To= ALLTRIM(winkiss.opt17)
  .Subject = "Test subject"
  .TextBody = "Testing SMTP emailing, from myself to myself"
  .Send()
   Endwith

etc

Does anyone have suggestions

Outlook and VFP

2016-03-20 Thread Sytze de Boer
In my accounting system, clients can email their clients an invoice or copy
of an invoice.
It places the message and pdf into Outlook.
Outlook then takes care of it, and you can all such emails in the Sent
folder
This has worked for years!

I now have a client who has shown me her Sent folder and I can see dozens
of entries where it has sent the email, but no attachment.

Can anyone suggest how this can happen?

My accounting system also has a "sent" emails dbf and it shows these emails
were placed in to Outlook and the fact there was an attachment (or not)

Re: Import/Export with CSV

The Supplier code could be letters and number, just letters, or just
numbers.

The supplier code may be 12345.1234567890
It's nothing to do with decimal point. It's a character.
If the code is ABC12345.1234567890 all is fine.

The import routine is append from file IMPFILE type csv

Import/Export with CSV

2016-02-28 Thread Sytze de Boer
I have a problem and I hope someone can help

I export 3 fields to a CSV file
Code C(15), price N(10,2) , supcode C(30)

The code and the supcode may be pure numbers
Example supcode may be 12345.56000

I make some changes to the price (using Excel)
I now import from this same file and the supcode has changed to 12345.56

Whats the best way to overcome this?

Re: Alias()

2016-01-27 Thread Sytze de Boer
FRIENDS !!
Thank you all for your comments. I appreciate it.

I decided to post/ask my query because in the past 3 months I've also had
some major issues.
I cannot identify the cause and I'll briefly describe it here.

I have a form with a grid. The controlsource is a free standing table.
(Clients table called Windebs)
The form has a command group with several buttons.
Example, "Show Transactions"
The click event has code such as
lcclient=clcode
select * from winhst where client=lcclient into curs temp

I end up with an error "variable clcode not found"

It is as though the underlying table is no longer Windebs, which is nuts
because I did not "select" another table anywhere.
Now, I've seen similar behavior when Anti virus software is locking the
tables, or extremely slow network connections, but it just started
happening about 3 months ago, and only with "some" customers.
At one time I thought it was only on XP pc's but that theory is also
disproved.

At this stage I'm slowly trawling through my code and changing Click events
to

sele windebs
lcclient=clcode
select * from winhst where client=lcclient in to curs temp

Alias()

2016-01-26 Thread Sytze de Boer
I do the following in one of my modules

sele 909
use (ltable) alias Junk1 Excl

If I issue wait window alias(), it returns Junk1

If I
use (ltable) alias "Junk1" Excl, it returns Junk1 as well

Is this normal?

I ask because I have a client who consistently ends up with an error
variable code not found
when I know for sure the table has a field called Code, and I am trying to
confirm the underlying table is indeed Junk1

CSV issues

2015-12-23 Thread Sytze de Boer
In my system, clients can upload/update their inventory by importing from a
CSV file.

Suddenly, a client has reported a problem and I have noticed the following.

1 When he imports from a CSV file, all references to "inch" which is noted
as " in the column, automatically becomes '"'
2 If I import the file as a TXT file instead, it leaves out the "
altogether

I guess there's a workaround but is there something else I should check

Task pane

2015-11-19 Thread Sytze de Boer
I upgraded my pc yesterday.
I installed VFP9, with all the service packs and hot fixes, etc

Totally happy
Except, when I go into VFP, I get this Task Pane Manager popping up and I
can't seem to stop this from popping up.
It has a message about Class defenition MSXML2.domdocument 4.0 is not found

Can someone guide me ?

By the way, system is a Lenovo, I7, 8 Gb Ram and 2 x 250 SSD, and Windows 10
I am in love.

Using Outlook

2015-10-29 Thread Sytze de Boer
My clients have the choice of sending emails via Gmail or Outlook
I have found Gmail to work better in some instances, Outlook in another.

With 1 client, where Outlook is the better option, it has been a pain for
almost a year now.
What happens is that after (say) 200 emails, the system crashes and the
only way out is a Restart of the pc.

Today we found the cause of the problem (we think)
Every time my system creates an email and "sends" it to Outlook, it opens
an instance of Winword.exe and does not release it.
So, we can end up with dozens and dozens x Winword.exe visible in the task
Processes.

Now that we (think) have found the issue, I can kill Winword after each
email, but is that the best/only solution ?

Report*.app

2015-08-10 Thread Sytze de Boer
Hi folk

Please can someone throw some light on a subject that I'm sure some of you
are shocked I should ask.

When I distribute my app, I use use Inno to create a distributable file
In the folder are 3 files that I placed there many moons ago.
Reportbuilder.app, reportoutput.app and reportpreviwer.app
The modified date on these files is 3 to 4 years ago

I use either Foxypreviewer or Xfrx to generate my reports.
What relevance are the above 3 files?
I ask because I picked up a Zip file from somewhere where the files are
more recent.

My 2nd question is this.
Sometimes a client asks me to modify 1 or more reports.
So I log in via Teamviewer and modify the report as requested.
When I do so I can't choose to what printer it should print.

Example, I want to print a specific report always to a Dymo printer instead
of the default printer.
The printer option does not appear like it does in my development
environment.
Is this because of the 3 files above?

I recently posted a query on another forum and received zero attention
I hope you can shed some light on this

My question was

1 Should one distribute reportbuilder.app to all one's clients?
2 If yes, should one include the reportoutput.app as well
3 If yes, what about ReportPreview.app
4 Perhaps it should only be done if you actually log into the clients pc

5 I use Foxypreviewer at all client sites. Does that make a difference?

 speed with all the options available for printer control such as slew rate
 etc.

 I don't think you will have any problem from then on in. Check on the
 Seagull page that your Zebra is supported first.

 Subject: Printing to a Zebra printer

 After various attempts, this is where I'm at

 Printer is set up on an Win7 pc
 It is shared.
 It is called Zebraprinter
 The default printer is a HP laserjet
 My application is installed on a Server (V:\)

 On this pc, is a file C:\TEMP\ZEBRA.INI
 It has 1 line, Zebralabels

 In my application, when you print a label, it checks if this file exists
 If so, it goes
 xprinter=FILETOSTR(C:\TEMP\ZEBRAPRINTER.INI)
 SET PRINTER TO NAME (xprinter)

 All is well at this point

 Now I go to a different pc altogether
 I install the zebra printer and access it via 192.168.1.56 (the 1st pc
 where it is set up as a shared printer)

 No matter what I do, it will not print the label from my application Even
 if I set that printer as my default printer

 The FRX does not have anything in EXPR, TAG1 or TAG2 fields Instead of the
 INI file, I have tried a GETPRINTER() routine immediately before printing
 the label

 I have tried to embed the Zebra printer in the EXPR field and saved the
 printer details.
 All to no avail

 I have tried this on my own system with the INI file routine.
 In my office I have 2 usb printers, a network printer on 192.168.1.25, as
 well as a shared printer on my sons's desktop It prints exactly as I would
 expect per the ini file.

 Sheesh folk. Can anyone help me?

Re: Mwresize

2015-03-06 Thread Sytze de Boer
William, I use a different resize but probably follows the same principle

I declare 2 public variables in my main.prg
PUBLIC trheight
PUBLIC trwidth

If the system leaves the main screen I set the trheight and trwidth
variables

On any screen/form where I want to scale the screen, I INIT
heightratio=trheight/(thisform.height+25)
widthratio =trwidth /thisform.Width

thisform.Height=thisform.height*heightratio
thisform.width =(thisform.width*widthratio)+2
thisform.Top=0
thisform.Left=0
thisform.Resize

This has worked really well for me
(All my forms are Modal)

 Hi Tracy!

 Thanks for the quick reply. Actually what I'm trying to do is 'automate' a
 feature that's already built into mwresize. If you right click the resizer
 tab in the bottom right hand corner of the form mwresize pops up a small
 menu of choices (75%, 85%, 95%, etc) which, when you make a selection,
 resizes the form and all of its controls to the requested percentage of the
 forms original size. What I would like to do, in the absence of
 auto-resizing to match the current screen resolution, is to set up a public
 variable which would contain a number to be used as a fixed choice without
 having to use the menu when the form opens. This way I can get the
 resolution fairly close to what looks best. Thus, if the form is so large
 because of a lower resolution that you can't get at the resizer controls,
 you can set this (maybe during the initial system configuration at install
 time) to get the form resized automatically.

 Kind of a 'back door' approach but a viable solution if I can get it to
 work.

 Bill

 Failing that, I've been using mwresize for interactive screen
 resizing.
   It works beautifully. I thought if I could find a way to pass the vcx a
   parameter to have it resize the form to a particular percentage of the
   original size when the form is called this would be close enough. I
 have
   no idea how to manage this.
 Can anyone give me an idea how this might be achieved? Or, does
 anyone

  Bill,

 When you say a percentage of the original size. Are you basing this off
 the
 original size of the top level form this form is opening in?
 I can think of two ways to get information to a form when it is
 instantiating. You can pass parameters to the Init method. The other one
 is
 having some public like variable. I like to put things on _Screen with
 AddProperty() during runtime. In another program, I use a public settings
 object to maintain those type of settings.

I was trying to avoid the dreaded LOCK situation

This works beuatifully/quick

UPDATE winstoks SET on_order=0

SELECT SUM(qty) as qty, stockcode FROM winsords WHERE !EMPTY(stockcode)
GROUP BY stockcode INTO CURSOR tmp readwrite
UPDATE winstoks ;
SET winstoks.on_order=tmp.qty;
from tmp ;
WHERE winstoks.code=tmp.stockcode

Is there a way to avoid the file locks?
UPDATE winstoks SET on_order=0 if !locked

 Darren,

 If Memory serves, the Update command can lock the table header during the
 process.
 If there are multiple tsheets.stcode and your are combining (summing them)
 you may need to use a subquery instead of the table directly in the
 suggested Update command.

 Untested:

 UPDATE stocks SET timesheets = tsheetsum.qty ;
 FROM (select stcode, sum(qty) as qty from tsheets group by 1) as
 tsheetsum ;
 WHERE stocks.stCode  = tsheetsum.stCode

suspect is not necessary, but I haven't yet found a way to set on_order

 This works beuatifully/quick

 UPDATE winstoks SET on_order=0

 SELECT SUM(qty) as qty, stockcode FROM winsords WHERE !EMPTY(stockcode)
 GROUP BY stockcode INTO CURSOR tmp readwrite
 UPDATE winstoks ;
 SET winstoks.on_order=tmp.qty;
 from tmp ;
 WHERE winstoks.code=tmp.stockcode

 Is there a way to avoid the file locks?
 UPDATE winstoks SET on_order=0 if !locked
 (Yes, I know, its a silly question)

 VFP9SP2

 Existing: Customer combobox with style set to 0 - Dropdown combo. If
 user enters customer not found in list, program asks if they want to add
 this name as a new customer.

 Preferred: user wants Customer dropdown to be like Google search where
 as he types, he sees a dropdown of possible choices matching what he's
 typed so far.

 Suggestions?

 HOSTING.COM
 I'm currently using them for a client with a West-Wind customized store
 on a Windows 2008 server. To get acceptable HD space and performance, the
 cost is $300 per month. This seems to be very expensive to me with current
 offerings. However, when you need support, a person answers the phone in a
 very short time frame and most of the times that person can resolve the
 issue.

 DIGITALOCEAN
 Allows for hourly or monthly hosting of Linux and BSD servers. It's
 amazing to spin up a Linux server in about 40 seconds! I'm using this for
 testing of Xojo web applications.

 VULTR
 I'm not currently using this company yet. They seem to have more server
 locations, especially in the states. They have hourly and monthly pricing.
 They have Linux and BSD hosting *AND* they allow for customized ISO
 installations, which is how you get a Windows server installation.

 I hope this helps.

Re: [NF] Supporting remote clients

2014-12-01 Thread Sytze de Boer
Teamviewer will monitor how often you use the free version, and suddenly
deny access.
They keep updating their system and if your client has a different version
to yours, it will not allow access.
And the professional version is pricy.
I have used it to assist clients in different parts of the world.

Dave Crozier recently mentioned Splashtop.
It has a certain number of limitations and I found the only real good point
was the price.

I would have to say that you get what you paid for and Teamviewer is
unbeatable.
They also have a small host (V 7) which I distribute with my software
Then, when they call for help, I check if they have Teamviewer installed.
If so, I kill it
Then my system calls this small host and I'm in !

 Then, install TightVNC Service on all the machines you want to remote
 control, and connect over the VPN from your laptop wherever you may be.

 After the initial setup, it's free forever.

 Alternatively, the client needs to pay for LogMeIn Pro or equivalent.

 Of course, convincing them of the value will require some selling.
 Usually, charging your full rate for travel time suffices.

 No, I don't convince a high percentage of leads to contract with me, which
 turns out to be a good thing for everyone. They don't pay for
 products/services they don't feel they need, and I don't waste time trying
