RE: [NF] Attention Mac users who are slagging Vista ...
Ed, I've had all the Beta's on my machine now for about 4 months and I can say thatapart from the eye candy, which is very nice by the way, I can't see ANY reason to upgrade from XP or even 2K. Certainly debugging the last 1% (or more) errors out of it won't be done until SP1 arrives after about 6 months which is par for the course. As for me, my favourite platform(s) are 2K and Linux (Ubuntu) and I'll keep using them especially as the latter keeps maturing with every release. I read somewhere that Vista will be super fast to install as it uses imaging technology (like Ghost). Maybe that bit's not released yet... One thing I did notice though! The first user still has admin privileges! When are they gonna change this??? Stupidity! That's the root cause of all the security problems in Windows. If the default back in NT or 2000 was to give users non-admin rights then us programmers (admit it, we're all guilty!) wouldn't have written programs that assume this. It's a catch-22. So for an upgrade from XP it just installs seperately then migrates settings into Vista. This is a good thing for admins who push out central installs etc. -- Alan Bourke [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- http://www.fastmail.fm - Send your email first class ___ Post Messages to: ProFox@leafe.com Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice. Vista, the next coming of PERFECTION, YA RIGHT. I am glad to see the ship dates slide. The critics of MS will scream at the top of their lungs if there is a problem with Vista after it ships. If it takes MS two more years to get it right, so be it. This should send a message to all developers that shipping a 99% product is more important than shipping on time.
