Re: Keyboard, or actual DAW

2022-07-01 Thread Rory McDonald
Different strokes for different folks. Some use logic, some use reaper, some
use tape. I don't see anything wrong with keyboard workstations. Some just like
using hardware. Theres advantages and drawbacks to literally everything. But
yes, I think they're worth it, assuming thats the main question you were
asking? I think they're cool. You may not, or you may not find a use for them,
thats alright. Keep in mind too though that different keyboards like those you
mentioned have different sounds you may not have otherwise, so thats of course
something to think about as well.

Some third party keyboards map strangely to the Mac. In most cases its just a
matter of reassigning the Option and command keys so they are in the right
order,. It’s been a while since I see one go that crazy.

Yes, I've tried everything that I know. I'm starting to think if it was bad
when it came to me. I followed all set up instructions. And in the set up
instructions and asked me to press the key to the left and the right of the
shift key.

Re: Keyboard mode off and Groups suspended on won't stick

2018-04-25 Thread Slau Halatyn
Hi John,
That hasn't been my experience, although I sometimes find that groups have
inexplicably been suspended but it's not a chronic issue. BTW, you can simply
press Command+Option+3 to set the keyboard focus to groups and press
Command+Shift+g to toggle the suspension.

Re: Keyboard Maestro 8

2017-09-21 Thread Slau Halatyn
Hi Martin,
You can certainly upgrade to Keyboard Maestro 8 and it'll have no effect on the
functionality of Flo Tools. One thing of which you should be aware is that one
aspect of the way Keyboard Maestro displays triggers in the Macros scroll area
has broken. In recent versions of KM, when navigating the macros, one could
interact and see three items: an image, the macro name and the trigger, usually
a keyboard shortcut. In version 8, the macro name and trigger are not seen by
VoiceOver and only the image is seen. Otherwise, when navigating the macros
scroll area, the macros appear just as before. The developer is aware of the
issue and says he'll address it in an update. For now, one can jump to the
macro edit detail to see what the current trigger or triggers are set to. I'd
say it's worth taking advantage of the upgrade pricing and updating. I've
already done so.

Re: Keyboard focus mode

2017-05-22 Thread Slau Halatyn
Hi Brian,
Although it's possible to use Keyboard Focus mode for one letter commands, I
wouldn't recommend it for a few reasons. First, a single tap of certain letters
will perform an action without you knowing that the action was performed. If
you're not careful, it's easy to inadvertently issue a command without knowing
it. second, we purposely used single letter commands for the Flo Tools
Inspector with the assumption that blind users wouldn't use Keyboard Focus. Flo
Tools swallows those single letter commands. Finally, all of those single
letter commands are available outside of Keyboard Focus with the Control
modifier. So, for example, Control+a will trim to the previous clip boundary
just like pressing the letter a alone in Keyboard Focus mode.

Hey folks. Just letting you know that Cult of Mac is offering Keyboard
Maestro for only 15 bucks for the next 7 days.
I’ve created a direct link to the page that’s easy to remember.
http://kevinreeves.net/km.

For anyone who wants to improve accessibility to certain apps by creating
macros to click unseen buttons, this is the app you need.
Usually, it’s 36 bucks, but right now, it’s roughly 40 percent off.

Get it. Got it? Good.

Hi Rui,
Isn’t Yosemite version 10.10? I thought Mavericks was version 10.9. Maybe I’m
mistaken. Howevewr, I do have the latest Keyboard Maestro running on both a

Re: Keyboard focus mode?

2016-06-08 Thread Slau Halatyn
I suppose some find it useful to not have to add a modifier. Clearly, Pro Tools
is not a program where one types a lot. When a dialog comes up, naturally,
typing might be required but, for the most part, using the keyboard can be
focused, so to speak, on issuing editing and navigation commands.

Keyboard focus shortcuts used to work slightly differently in older versions
of Pro Tools but I'm pretty sure it's mostly the same. Command-Option-1 is
the Commands Focus mode, Command-Option-2 brings focus to the Clips List (if
it's being shown) and Command-Option-3 brings focus to the Groups List,
again assuming it's being shown.

I'm personally not a Commands Focus kind of guy as I find that inadvertent
presses of keys on the qwerty keyboard can produce unexpected and
undesirable results. When a sighted user can often visually catch such
surprise events, a blind user might miss things. To me, the difference
between pressing one key versus pressing it with a modifier is
insignificant. My two cents,

Re: keyboard focus question again

Yes, the keyboard shortcuts I mentioned in my original reply are the ones you
can use to ensure you're in the right mode but, again, I'll point out that
there's more than one way to achieve the same results (as in, using the Control
modifier or decimal letter decimal on the numeric keypad).

I don't know if there's a default, per se. It might be persistent between
sessions and bootups. An interesting experiment would be to open different
sessions, create new ones, etc. to determine how it actually works. Maybe you
might try that and let us know what you find. You can tell which keyboard focus
is active by examining the keyboard focus status in the various areas of either

Re: keyboard focus keyboard commands

2012-04-27 Thread Slau Halatyn
It's not possible to disable any shortcuts in Pro Tools. If a command doesn't
work, there's something else going on. An example where a shortcut like
command-v wouldn't work would be when you're trying to paste something copied
from a stereo track into a mono track or vice versa. The operation won't work,
not because the shortcut isn't working but because the operation simply cannot
be completed in this manner.

Basically that just lets you use the commands you already know, like
command+equals for your mix/edit window, return for the beginning of the

Re: keyboard focus keyboard commands

2012-04-26 Thread Slau Halatyn
Keyboard focus refers to the focus for single letter shortcuts but it pertains
to whether the letter a, for example, will enable the edit or mix group
assigned to the letter a or trim a region boundary from insertion to start of
region, which is a shortcut when the commands focus is engaged. Pressing
Command-Option-1 will focus on qwerty commands while Command-Option-3 will
focus on the groups list. There are ways to override this like by pressing
Control plus the associated qwerty command when commands focus is not enabled
or using decimal letter decimal on the numeric keypad when groups focus is not
engaged.

I know a ton of sighted PT dabblers that would love this, but can't really
see how it'd be worth its price tag for a screen reader user. It would help
you get things done if you find it easier to remember an 8x19 matrix of
buttons than standard shortcuts, but given how key-happy VO itself is
before you even load PT, that probably won't apply to anyone here.

As Chuck would say, ymmv...

Is anyone using the HOTKEY MATRIX – keyboard Control Surface for Pro Tools?
It is a shortcut USB key board made for PT. I am considering it, but am not
sure if anything in voice over will conflict with the short cut
functions. Here
it is,

I have to say, there's nothing really there that can't be done with standard
keyboard shortcuts. Yes, that might sound attractive to people who aren't used
to remembering modifier combinations but, in general, I think screen reader
users are used to such memorization. I don't know, to me it seems superfluous
although it probably looks pretty cool.

Re: keyboard shortcut for record enable

2012-02-26 Thread Chris Norman
Also, if you don't want to go into the track list table all the time, you can
use control p and control ; (which are actually a lot quicker if you get used
to them.

HTH.

Shift R works on tracks that are selected. When inside the track list table,
press Vo Space on a track. Then, when you press shift R, it will arm that
track. Also make sure link edit and track selection is checked in the options
menu. Hope that helps.

Re: keyboard shor cuts

2011-01-25 Thread Slau Halatyn
Hey Frank,

This particular shuttle mode works in both classic or Transport numeric keypad
modes which are possible on all Pro Tools systems. The numeric keypad mode that
is specific only to Pro Tools HD is Shuttle Mode. Hopefully that makes sense.
