Yes, Track Pad Commander takes over the functionality so you can't do regular mouse clicks with that mode enabled. Glad you figured it out. Re: mouse tracking in Yosemite and the Apple Magic Track Pad
Hi Slau Thanks for the quick reply and the very good summery. I certainly had my fair share of issues with mouse clicking in the past and 90% of the time I don’t get the click with the first try. It certainly sounds as if a trackpad would be helpful in some situations and maybe I should just take the plunge and get one. Thanks again, if you can think of anything else to add, please do. It's not reliable enough. Yes, it works in a pinch but I personally couldn't live with that day in and day out. The track pad is stationary and large. It won't move when you get your bearings and it doesn't move after you've pressed it. To me, it's more reliable and consistent. Since its active range is fixed in a physical dimension, it's possible to touch a specific point and move the focus to that area of the screen more reliably than having to move a mouse which is only relative to the mouse's travel rather than an actual physical point. I tend not to use the track pad for those purposes but it's certainly possible to use it that way and some folks might find that really helpful. For example, in the Mix window, you can touch, say, the right side of the track pad and you'll hear the names of tracks that appear toward the right side of the Mix window. Rather than starting from the left with voiceOver and moving through all of the tracks, the track pad allows you to more quickly focus on that right side area to begin with. Once you've located the track, you can then pick up with keyboard commands. The same holds true for other windows. Hello tot he list! I tried the steps below on a new MacBook Pro, Yosemite and PT12.1 with no tsuccess. Having since switched over to Pro Tools 11 full time, I've experimented with the Track Pad as I know some others on the list have as well. For anybody who wants to easily perform modified clicks in Pro Tools to solo safe, record all, show or hide all with ease, I'd highly recommend it. One recommendation would be to turn off everything in the Track Pad panel of System Preferences except for the very first checkbox labeled Tap to Click. If you set the mouse pointer to follow the VoiceOver cursor, simply holding down the modifier and tapping the Track Pad anywhere will perform the modified click. Further, pop-up lists behave normally with the modified behavior. Of course, laptop users with track pads already have this functionality but anybody with a Mac Mini or iMac, etc. would benefit from the Magic Track Pad. A mouse could possibly work OK but one risks the possibility of moving the mouse pointer before performing the click. The Track Pad won't have this issue unless one touches the pad elsewhere and moves it. I find that its form factor is practically fool-proof. Re: mouse tracking in Yosemite and the Apple Magic Track Pad
Well, for starters, don't double-click. The way to press a button is to single click. The way to solo safe a track, for example, is to Command-click which means to hold the modifier and click not double-click. Give that a try. I'm Yosemite and version 12 with no issues. Re: mouse tracking in Yosemite and the Apple Magic Track Pad
Hi, I usually upgrade to a new version of the Mac operating system by partitioning my hard drive into the number of partitions I will need for backward compatibility and in the installer for the new version press the show all disks button then name the partitions with the version of the operating system I am using so if I need to go back it is just a matter of going into start up disk and changing the disk then restarting. This task might be the best for all users but I find it gets the job done for me. Re: mouse tracking in Yosemite and the Apple Magic Track Pad
Single tap works best because you can then use VoiceOver to navigate menus and submenus. Without the settings as I've outlined, a single tap would only open the menus and close them as soon as you lifted your finger off the track pad. For Command-clicking a Solo button, it's not an issue but for performing global shortcuts with modifiers that apply to assigning outputs, for example, you'd need to traverse the pop-up menu. The settings as I've described will work well with VoiceOver. Slau On Mar 13, 2015, at 4:37 AM, Martin Sopart m...@cakewalker.de wrote: Hi Slau! Re: mouse tracking in Yosemite and the Apple Magic Track Pad
There's much conjecture about what is the best way to upgrade. One can certainly just upgrade to Yosemite via Software Update. Others insist that a clean install is better. For updates like this, I've always had good results by doing a clean install and importing data from a backup drive. For the first time, however, I set up this particular Mac from scratch without importing anything. It's the studio machine and has no personal data on it so it was fairly easy. Most people on the list, however, might be using their machines for personal stuff as well so importing data from a backup drive is probably much more sensible. They're aware and nobody every knows if and when Apple will do anything about any bugs. That's just the way Apple is. There's no particular method about the behavior in Pro Tools once you tether the mouse pointer except that sometimes adding the shift modifier to perform a physical mouse click seems to work a little better depending on the situation. The steps I outlined about use of the Track Pad are simply just an alternative to using a physical mouse.
