Sadly it looks like there was a port of the Raster Calculator to C++ and that
functionality wasn't ported.

Re: [Qgis-user] Canvas larger than viewport is rendered/drawn for vector layers, but not for raster layers

2023-12-17 Per discussione Thomas Larsen Wessel via QGIS-User
I have tried out version 3.34 with the rendering profiler. However, I
misunderstood your response and thought that it was a feature that would
let me set a rendering profille, ie let me choose to have some raster
layers prerendered outside the visible extent.

Anyway, the profiler feature is quite cool feature, and interesting
to watch :)

Lets say I have a some locally stored raster data, e.g. xyz tiles or
geopackage. What would it take if I wanted those to be prerendered outside
the visible extent? I think my PC should be able to handle that. Would I
need to dig into the C++ code and make my own build with my own preferences?

Are there any articles out there that I should have a look at? I suspect I
am not the first one who is looking to have raster layers prerendered :)

Sincerely

Re: [Qgis-user] Support for Mesh layers (netCDF) on Postgis/Postgresql: is it possible?

2023-12-14 Per discussione Jorge Gustavo Rocha via QGIS-User

Hi Saber,

Thank you for your feedback. You are an expert on the subject and I
really appreciate your comments.

Postgresql is probably not the best option in terms of performance. But
it is a practical solution to centralize all information in a single place.

I'm using postgis raster support, for example, which is not faster than
files, but it is ok for my use cases. I have all the spatial data in one
place, where I can manage authentication and authorizations quite well.
The end user will use a cached WMTS/TMS service (MapProxy on top of QGIS
Server), and the performance will be ok. I want to use QGIS Server to
provide data in netCDF files as temporal layers. The end user will use
cached data and will not notice any performance issues. The cache can be
created once, since the data is always in the past. That's my use case:
I'm not processing the data or making any processing. Just providing
maps/tiles.

GDAL and QGIS works very well with Postgresql and users are familiar
with Postgresql (setup and usage).

How difficult would be to have netCDF data in Postgresql?

1) We should have a way to store the data (and metadata) on the database
(like we do with rasters, with raster2pgsql).

2) We need to improve QgsMeshLayer to read from a PG uri, like:

uri_config = {
    'service':'atlantico',
    'schema':'public',
    'table':'az1_hs_2023101200_03',
    'geometrycolumn':'rast'
}
uri_config = {key:val for key, val in uri_config.items() if val is not None}
md = QgsProviderRegistry.instance().providerMetadata('mdal')
uri = QgsDataSourceUri(md.encodeUri(uri_config))
mesh_layer = QgsMeshLayer(uri.uri(False), "layer_name", "mdal")

If you think this does not make sense, you are probably right :-) I'm
quite new to netCDF data and I just want to use the tools I'm used to
have with this format.

Regards,

Jorge

have you tried if the issue occurs using a new QGIS user profile as

if it still occur also using a new QGIS user profile, then please

[Qgis-user] osgeo4w not updating installation

2023-12-13 Per discussione Michael Dufty via QGIS-User
Hi,
Wondering if anyone can help me with my problem.
I've been experimenting with running OSGEO4w installer from command line to
update the ltr with out having to click OK 15 times.
I used the following commands -k -o -g --quiet-mode --packages qgis-ltr-full
-R "C:\OSGeo4W"

This appeared to run, and if I run setup again it shows 3.28.13-2 as installed,
but if I actually open qgis it is still 3.28.12
Even if I uninstall and reinstall with OSGEO4W-setup it remains 3.28.12
There are no standalone versions installed.

Anyone have any ideas what I might have done wrong or how to fix it? Deleting
the entire OSGeo4W directory and starting again works, but doesn't help with my
plan to make updates easier!

Couldn't load plugin 'crayfish' due to an error when calling its
initGui() method AttributeError: module 'pyqtgraph' has no attribute
'GraphicsWindow' Traceback (most recent call last)

Hi Gael,
the error message is quite clear: it is caused by the external plugin
"crayfish" you have installed in the QGIS user profile "default". The
issue has been already reported [1].

Te easiest way to get rid of the error message is to uninstall such
external plugin or to use a new QGIS user profile [2][3] or to start
QGIS without any plugin enabled [3].

Best regards.

Andrea

2023-12-12 Per discussione Frank Broniewski via QGIS-User
Hi Gael,

this is not a QGIS problem, but one of your installed plugins is causing the
issue. The first line mentions it already
> Couldn't load plugin 'crayfish'

I don't know the plugin, but you could try to delete / uninstall it and
reinstall it again. If you go in a terminal to
/home/kermarrec/.local/share/QGIS/QGIS3/profiles/default/python/plugins and
delete the 'crayfish' folder, QGIS should start without the error.

Further down the line the vrtbuilder plugin is mentioned as well, you might
want to delete and reinstall it as well, just to be sure if the crayfish plugin
is a dependency of the vrtbuilder plugin.

Hi Gael,

I'm using QGis on Linux Mint, an Ubuntu fork, with no problems, so just
some notes.

- Did you follow
https://www.qgis.org/en/site/forusers/alldownloads.html#debian-ubuntu?

- Did you run "sudo apt update" before "sudo apt install"?

- There seems to be an older installation, You could try "sudo apt-get
purge qgis qgis-plugin-grass python3-qgis qgis-providers qgis-common"
before...

Thank you for your response. I have succeeded in adding all the shapefiles
and google map layer in my map. I have another type of file which is mike
dfsu file.I have added the layer dictionary in the attachment. I have five
dfsu files as you can see. I need to make each layer active one at a time
and create a map. So there will be five maps finally. But I can't find any
resource with a solution for handling such files. Can you share any way to
add such a file in a map?

Re: [Qgis-user] What is the r coordinate?

2023-12-11 Per discussione Alister Hood via QGIS-User
Thanks, I should have found that, but was tripped up by
https://github.com/qgis/QGIS-Website/issues/961 and not reading carefully
enough.

I wondered if it was a radius, but I thought if so I would be able to type
a radius in to turn a vertex into a curve - I was mainly confused
because digitising curves doesn't work here for CompoundCurve and
MultiCurve memory layers (they are digitised as if the provider doesn't
support curves; maybe I have a plugin that is causing this problem).
Now that I've tried a CurvePolygon layer it all becomes clear. And I see
that to convert between a vertex and a curve you select it with the node
tool and press 'o'.

Thanks.

[Qgis-user] What is the r coordinate?

2023-12-11 Per discussione Alister Hood via QGIS-User
The vertex editor panel always seems to include a column for an r
coordinate. It always seems to be empty and anything I try to type in it
is thrown away.
What is it? I guess I haven't been looking carefully enough, but I can't
seem to find it explained anywhere.

You can see a screenshot in the docs at:
https://docs.qgis.org/3.34/en/docs/training_manual/create_vector_data/create_new_vector.html?highlight=vertex%20editor#moderate-fa-using-vertex-editor-table

There's a few parts to the logic defining whether a layer will be included
in the outside-visible-extent preview:

- WMS layers are **never** included. This is by design, to reduce
unnecessary server load
- when a layer is drawn the time taken to render it is recorded. If this
time exceeds a certain threshold, then the layer is marked as too expensive
to render in these optional out-of-canvas areas.

(You can check the new renderer profile option available in the F12
debugging tools panel in 3.34 for more detailed information about layer
render times)

Re: [Qgis-user] Printing Qgis shown layers in new version

2023-12-08 Per discussione Ludwig Kniprath via QGIS-User

Hi Asim,

I'm surprised that previous QGis versions should have returned three
layers "Gasunie 2, Gasunie Z-509-05 and Wattinfra Kabelverbinding",
because the legend image shows a single vector layer "Overzicht
entities" with three classes, not three separate layers.

According to https://api.qgis.org/api/classQgsProject.html:

QgsProject.instance().mapLayers() => "Returns a map of all registered
layers by layer ID."

Perhaps you previously had three separate layers bundled in a layer group?

Hi All,
I have a question related to printing out the shown layers in qgis.
I made a plugin that has worked fine in the older Qgis versions but
not working properly in the new version.
The problem that iam facing is that the
*QgsProject.instance().mapLayers().values() *does not show me the
layers shown in qgis.
So in the previous version, the below image gives me the names of the
layers *Gasunie 2, Gasunie Z-509-05 and Wattinfra Kabelverbinding*.
But in the new Qgis version it gives me the names *Overzicht entities
and openbasiskaart.nl <http://openbasiskaart.nl>*. Does anyone know
how to tackle this problem?

Re: [Qgis-user] Locking Font Characteristics for Text Items in Print Layout

2023-12-08 Per discussione Tim Malloy via QGIS-User
Sebastian – thank you for your thoughts. The idea that a different version of
QGS might be creating the issue had occurred to me and I’ve tested that by
opening the project file in the version in which it was originally created.
That did not resolve the issue. It seems unlikely that corruption of a
specific QGIS project file is the issue since this problem occurs with all my
project files. The fonts that I’m having issues with are installed on my
system and I have no issues with these same fonts in other applications on my
computer. Also, once I reset the font variables in my QGIS Print Layout, they
show up fine and remain unchanged for an extended time period. However, after
an unknown amount of time (months to a year or so), the font characteristics
reset to the default.

I’ll try submitting a bug report.

opened the layouts in my project, I once again discovered that all the

reformatted. I figure it will take me about 10 minutes per map to redo all the
text formatting, which translates to over 2 hours of work. The edits that my

Hello all – does anyone know if there is a way to lock a text map item in QGIS
Print Layout to prevent the font size and type (bold, italic, etc.) from
changing over time. I’ve had several situations where I created a series of
maps and exported them to PDF for a client and later needed to amend the maps
and found that the text items created in Print Layout (map title, date, figure
number, disclaimer statement, legend text, etc.) had reverted to a default font
size and type. Having to reset all the fonts for the text items can be very
time consuming when you need to do it for 20 or 30 maps. I’ve tried locking
the text item in the Items panel in Print Layout but that seems only to prevent
the text item from being moved but does not retain the font characteristics.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

[Qgis-user] Locking Font Characteristics for Text Items in Print Layout

2023-12-08 Per discussione Tim Malloy via QGIS-User
Hello again. Noone responded to my initial inquiry below so I'm resending the
email since this issue has come up for me again. I have 14 maps that I made
about a year ago to which I need to make some very minor revisions. When I
opened the layouts in my project, I once again discovered that all the

reformatted. I figure it will take me about 10 minutes per map to redo all the

client has requested would take about 15 minutes for all 14 maps. So, I'm
losing 2 hours of billable time since I can't charge for redoing all the text
item formatting.

and found that the text items created in Print Layout (map title, date, figure
number, disclaimer statement, legend text, etc.) had reverted to a default font
size and type. Having to reset all the fonts for the text items can be very
time consuming when you need to do it for 20 or 30 maps. I've tried locking
the text item in the Items panel in Print Layout but that seems only to prevent
the text item from being moved but does not retain the font characteristics.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Tim

[Qgis-user] Printing Qgis shown layers in new version

2023-12-08 Per discussione Asim al-sofi via QGIS-User
Hi All,
I have a question related to printing out the shown layers in qgis.
I made a plugin that has worked fine in the older Qgis versions but not
working properly in the new version.
The problem that iam facing is that the
*QgsProject.instance().mapLayers().values()
*does not show me the layers shown in qgis.
So in the previous version, the below image gives me the names of the
layers *Gasunie 2, Gasunie Z-509-05 and Wattinfra Kabelverbinding*. But in
the new Qgis version it gives me the names *Overzicht entities
and openbasiskaart.nl <http://openbasiskaart.nl>*. Does anyone know how to
tackle this problem?
Thanks in advance
Kind regards
Asim

iface is ONLY available when you're running the QGIS desktop application.
It contains methods for interacting with the parts of the desktop
application, which have no meaning when run from elsewhere (such as in a
notebook). In this situation you should avoid iface and use only the
classes from qgis.core instead.

Hope that helps!

The error is complaining that iface is None. Your code doesn't show
what value you assigned to this variable - where did you set iface and
what value did you set it to? I think you forgot to set it and that is
why you are getting this error.

[Qgis-user] Accessing iface from jupyter to create map from QGIS

2023-12-05 Per discussione noshin prachi via QGIS-User
Dear all,
I am trying to create a map from qgis. I have added a few layers and
created a layout in qgis. All I want is to create a script to get a map
from the layer on the layout that I have created in qgis. I have attached
the code. I am thinking of activating each layer at a time so that only the
activated layer will be on the layout and a map will get generated. While
trying to activate with iface.setactivelayer I am facing an error. So no
layer is added to the layout. I have added the code and image of the
generated map.

How to access the layer in qgis? how to deactivate the first layer and then
move to the next layer for the next map.

Noshin

Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS attribute forms question

2023-12-05 Per discussione Aguilar Bolivar, Rosa (UT-ITC) via QGIS-User
Hi,
If I understood correctly, You want to reuse a form given that a layer has
more columns.
If you are using QGIS GUI you can:
Option A. Change the data source to the layer. The form will remain. Add/edit
the new attributes
Option B. Add the new layer and copy styles (form) --> paste the style/form to
the new layer

Hope this helps.

Subject: [Qgis-user] QGIS attribute forms question

Hi,

I have created some forms for data entry/edit using QGIS.

I have successfully exported them & imported them to apply in different
computers with QGIS.

It can take several hours to create such a form where there are 80+ columns in
the underlying database table,

I now have the situation where the underlying table needs columns added or
removed.

QGIS will not apply a saved form to a layer unless the structure is identical.

How can I reuse a form for a layer representing a database table with (say) a
single new column, by adding the new column to the form, rather than manually
creating the whole form from scratch?

Thanks

Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS attribute forms question

2023-12-04 Per discussione Andreas Neumann via QGIS-User
Dear Brent,

Hm - this is not what I observe. Normally you should be able to carry over
attribute widget definitions to other layers even if the attributes don't
fully match. It would assign those who match.

Are you talking about the "drag and drop" configuration mode (there are
three different form configuration modes).

I used this all the time when I was configuring more complex projects. I
never had issues when adding or removing columns.

If this doesn't work, it should be reported as a bug with data helping to
reproduce the issue.

I am sure this can be fixed.

Andreas

I'm not sure if there's a better way, but can you duplicate the form,
add or remove columns as needed to match the target, then use that as
your saved form?

In other words, instead of copying one form and trying to make it fit
onto a different structure, can you modify the source form/structure so
you get a new saved form that already matches the updated structure?

I'm assuming you're talking about copying and pasting the "Attributes
Form" from one layer to another but I could be misunderstanding.

Cheers,
Adam.

[Qgis-user] QGIS attribute forms question

2023-12-04 Per discussione Brent Wood via QGIS-User

Thanks

What source do the gml files come from? How were they generated?
To avoid copy and paste, can you attach the files?

[Qgis-user] trigger action in qgis2web

2023-12-02 Per discussione Stephen Sacks via QGIS-User
In my desktop QGIS I have a short Python script that opens an HTML page
including arguments (attributes of the selected feature).  When I use
QGIS2web to put the  project on the web, I would like the user to
trigger that action when he/she clicks on a feature.  I would be
grateful for advice on how to do that.

=
#This is the script for Action "showPhoto"
import webbrowser
host = "promPics.rf.gd"
cName = "[%"common name"%]"
lName = "[%"latin name"%]"
picture = "[%"picture"%]"
theURL = "http://; + host + "/?"
theURL = theURL + "cName=" + cName + "&"
theURL = theURL + "lName=" + lName + "&"
theURL = theURL + "photo=" + picture
webbrowser.open(theURL)

Re: [Qgis-user] Cannot save

2023-11-30 Per discussione Werner Macho via QGIS-User
Hi!
Good point Raymond, but I'd rather prefer to have a detailed description of
what has happened.
A simple sentence of:
"What is the problem as I cannot save."
is just not enough to provide a proper solution.

What are you trying to save? Where does the data come from?
Which operating system are you using? In which directory are you trying to
save to?
(local? network?).

without having detailed information all you will get is a rough guess out
of the "crystal ball".

regards
Werner

Just guessing.. You're trying to export your layer and when you chose a
file name you just typed it into the edit widget and did not choose the
[...] button next to it to open file browser. Now QGIS will attempt to
save your gpkg file in the installation folder or some other directory
where you don't have write access.

Could that be?

It seems that for the areal feature (Administrative Units) the bounding box
coordinates are inverted (ExtentXMin>4847813.57006…. Etc.), I
cannot understand the reason why…

I also tried to open the gml file with other softwares and these are the
results:

  * Global Mapper: ALL the features are shown with inverted coordinates
  * FME: ALL the features are shown with the correct coordinates

Have you ever heard about this trouble? Did I make some particular mistake?

Thank you so much for your help!

Re: [Qgis-user] Connecting to Oracle Spatial using a proxy user

Thanks Julien for your suggestions. I don't think I managed to make it work
like that.
Is there anyone who has connected QGIS to an Oracle DB with a proxy user?

[Qgis-user] Locking Font Characteristics for Text Items in Print Layout

2023-11-29 Per discussione Tim Malloy via QGIS-User
Hello all - does anyone know if there is a way to lock a text map item in QGIS
Print Layout to prevent the font size and type (bold, italic, etc.) from
changing over time. I've had several situations where I created a series of
maps and exported them to PDF for a client and at later needed to amend the
maps and found that many of the text items (map title, date, figure number,
disclaimer statement, legend text, etc.) had reverted to a default font size
and type. Having to reset all of fonts for the items can be very time
consuming when you need to do it for 20 or 30 maps. I've tried locking the
text item in the Items panel in Print Layout but that seems to only prevent the
text item from being moved but does not retain the font characteristics.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Tim

Hi!
According to the error message you provided you are missing:
Could not find a package configuration file provided by "Qt5SerialPort"
with any of the following names:

Try to install the package "libqt5serialport5-dev" (depending on which
distribution you are - I can only see it is a linux system)

[Qgis-user] Problem insatalling from source

2023-11-29 Per discussione Raivo Rebane via QGIS-User

Hi,

I want to install QGIS package from source, but got foolowing errors :

CMake Error at cmake/FindSpatiaLite.cmake:20 (add_library):
add_library cannot create ALIAS target "spatialite::spatialite" because
target "PkgConfig::PC_SPATIALITE" is imported but not globally visible.
Call Stack (most recent call first):
  CMakeLists.txt:405 (find_package)

-- Qt WebKit support enabled
-- Using embedded laz-perf
-- Found ZSTD: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libzstd.so
-- Found PDAL: pdal_base;pdal_util (2.2.0)
-- Found Draco: /usr/local/lib/libdraco.a (1.5.6)
CMake Error at /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/cmake/Qt5/Qt5Config.cmake:28
(find_package):

Could not find a package configuration file provided by "Qt5SerialPort"
with any of the following names:

    Qt5SerialPortConfig.cmake
    qt5serialport-config.cmake

Add the installation prefix of "Qt5SerialPort" to CMAKE_PREFIX_PATH
or set

"Qt5SerialPort_DIR" to a directory containing one of the above files.  If
"Qt5SerialPort" provides a separate development package or SDK, be
sure it

  has been installed.

I tried different way of cmake :

raivo@Hydra:~/QGIS/build-master$ cmake
-DSPATIALITE_LIBRARY=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libspatialite.so
-DSPATIALITE_INCLUDE_DIR=/usr/include/ ..

and

raivo@Hydra:~/QGIS/build-master$ cmake
-DSPATIALITE_LIBRARY=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libspatialite.so
-DSPATIALITE_INCLUDE_DIR=/usr/include/
-DPC_SPATIALITE=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkgconfig/spatialite.pc ..

but in any cases got previous errors.

What is wrong ?

Regards,

Raivo

If you want to add the angle of the underlying road automatically, this is
doable using aggregate() expression to obtain the intersecting road sement and
then obtaining the angle of the line using angle_at_vertex() function. You can
set it up so it gets filled automatically as soon as you add the point. See the
example at

I see. If the angle is from a fixed reference point, you can add an expression
using azimuth() function in the Attribute Form that sets the default value of
the attribute to the angle between the current point and the target point. If
your reference point is not fixed but you need to select it manually, you can
add the angle after digitizing. Use the 'Measure Angle' tool from the toolbar
and measure the angle between the target point and reference point. Make sure
to enable snapping so you get the exact point coordinates. Copy/Paste the
result into the attribute table.

Hi Ilkka,

I am sorry to hear about your download troubles! I replied you personally
(without the mailing list) with additional download instructions.

My guess is that you just did not wait long enough for the download. The
MSI installers on Windows are 1.2GB in size and that can take up to 30
minutes or longer to download. Please have a look at your browser's
download manager to see the download progress.

As a clarification: donations are really optional. The donation hint
appears after you initiated the download - and you can of course ignore
this, although donations are of course welcome (if you like QGIS). Esp. if
you are a new user: please try QGIS first if it is usefully for you and
only donate if you really find QGIS useful.

Best regards,
Andreas

I think you were scammed, there is no donation requirement on the
official QGIS website. Who did you give your money to?

> But could not download?

When I go to the official download page I see plenty of download links
but nothing about donating money:
https://qgis.org/fi/site/forusers/download.html

Yes, that is a problem with scammers. It is best to always go to the
official web sites to avoid falling for these tricks. Any time you are
forced to give money for a free product like QGIS it is a scam -
donations are certainly welcomed but never mandatory.

It doesn't require a donation, but it might take patience. What did you
actually try to download? Did you retry?

Re: [Qgis-user] Oriented Points

2023-11-27 Per discussione Ujaval Gandhi via QGIS-User
I see. If the angle is from a fixed reference point, you can add an _expression_ using azimuth() function in the Attribute Form that sets the default value of the attribute to the angle between the current point and the target point. If your reference point is not fixed but you need to select it manually, you can add the angle after digitizing. Use the 'Measure Angle' tool from the toolbar and measure the angle between the target point and reference point. Make sure to enable snapping so you get the exact point coordinates. Copy/Paste the result into the attribute table.---Ujaval GandhiSpatial Thoughtswww.spatialthoughts.comOn Mon, Nov 27, 2023 at 6:04 PM Huesmann, Michaela via QGIS-User wrote:

[Qgis-user] Import Qgis symbology into Avanza maps

2023-11-26 Per discussione Julien Valdenaire via QGIS-User
Good morning,

I'm using QGIS 3.34.0 and I want to import a Qgis symbology in Avanza maps.
I have a CSV file that I have imported in Qgis and I created a symbology. Then
I exported those points as a shapefile format to be able to import them in
Avanza. My purpose is to do mapping using my map with my previous points and
symbology.
However, with the shapefile format I don't keep the symbology. I tried to
import the symbology using the format .kml without success. On Avanza website
it's written than I can get a new set of symbols by importing them in a .png
format.

Is there a way to export my symbology in a PNG format on Qgis?
Or does anybody know how to transfer my Qgis symbology into Avanza maps
application.

Thank you for your help,

Jules

[Qgis-user] Questions regarding the QgsProcessingAlgorithm class

2023-11-22 Per discussione Bo Victor Thomsen via QGIS-User

Hi list -

I have a couple of (probably dumb) questions on how to use the
"QgsProcessingAlgorithm" class.

 * A have a lot parameter inputs placed in the "advanced" section af
the processing input dialog. It's parameters that seldom has to be
   changed.
How do I present the "Avanced" section /not/ unfolded? The default
is to unfold this section and thus possibly confuse users by showing
a lot of seldom changed parameters.

 * One of my input parameters is a "QgsProcessingParameterString"
parameter that will contain a password.
How can I obfuscate the parameter input, i.e showing '***'
   instead of the password ?

[Qgis-user] Drill Hole Labels

Hi All,

I am trying to label drill hole data down drill holes using the Geoscience
plug-in but I am having problems getting the labels oriented at right angles
to the hole trace and spaced away from the hole trace to enable readability.
Has anyone worked out how to do this? Could we use the geometry generator
for the label display?

Cheers Grant

Re: [Qgis-user] Canvas larger than viewport is rendered/drawn for vector layers, but not for raster layers

2023-11-19 Per discussione Thomas Larsen Wessel via QGIS-User
Anyone? :)

So if I had to guess: Prerendering raster outside the viewport is disabled
because for any remote raster source (most are remote) it would overall
require QGIS to download much more raster data than otherwise. For users
with low bandwidth prerendering/predownloading raster outside the viewport
would end up feeling even more sluggish than what I am experiencing. Could
that be the reason?

[Qgis-user] Models execution times very different between QGIS 3.34.0 and QGIS 3.32.3

2023-11-18 Per discussione Lorenzo-Outlook via QGIS-User
I have been using the new version of QGIS 3.34.0 for a few days and have found
that in running models created by the Graphics Modeler, there is very different
performance between version 3.32.3 and 3.34.0.
I have several models created with the modeler including a very complex one
with about 100 algorithms that until version 3.32.3 was executed in about 11
minutes, while with version 3.34.0 the same model after more than 3 hours was
executed ONLY 18% of the total!!!

In the case of simpler models with very few algorithms the execution times are
similar with increasingly better times with version 3.32.3.

What happened ?

I checked and rechecked everything but not much can be done. When "Run" is
pressed to execute the model, before the first script appears in the log,
several minutes pass while in the previous version 3.32.3 the first model
script was executed after a few seconds.

With the new version 3.34.0 it is impossible to run complex models!

Why this huge difference between the two versions?

Please check

Thank you
Lorenzo

Re: [Qgis-user] Reselect Features

2023-11-17 Per discussione Richard McDonnell via QGIS-User
Michael,
In addition to what Nyall said, might I suggest another possible method for you
doing it.

Instead of selecting and deselecting, how about you use a virtual field? To
sort/filter the river names.
1) Using the field calculator, create a virtual field and call it,
"filter" and set all values to 1 or 0, based on something like... CASE WHEN
river_name = 'SomeRiverName' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END (expression may have some
errors)
2) Style your Layer using the "filter" value as your classification and
set 0 as Invalid and 1 as Valid.

You should then be able to see only the geometries with the valid name and spot
the gaps.
If instead of selecting and deselecting, you use the filter column to edit the
filter attribute to 1 or 0 you can add or remove features until you have what
you want. You can also set the attribute table to display only what is visible
on canvas, which may also help.
Hopefully the above helps
Kind Regards,

Richard

Reselect only works if you've previously "cleared" a selection. If you're
*changing* the selection, then reselect won't do anything.

I think what you're ultimately asking for is a undo/redo history for
selections Which is a GOOD idea! 

Re: [Qgis-user] Reselect Features

2023-11-16 Per discussione Michael Edward McNeil via QGIS-User
Thank you for your reply, Andrea. I'll be glad to describe the situation and
what I'm doing.

I'm running Qgis 3.23.3 for Windows (Windows 11), which is the regular
environment I'm now working Qgis in – though earlier I also tried 3.23.2 on
MacOS (the latter of which – Qgis for MacOS – I now believe to be a less
refined and less finished variety of Qgis, similar version number or no).

For my particular project at present (a map I'm preparing of Roman Britain),
I'm adding rivers to the map – drawing data from a shapefile of the "waterways"
(rivers, creeks, canals, ditches, etc.) of the island of Britain (containing
something like 190,000 features!), distributed by the U.K. government.

The procedure I've found most convenient at present for doing so (excepting the
interference of the problem being discussed) is to copy the original shapefile
to the name of the desired river, load it as a layer, open its Attributes
Table, turn on Editing, sort the table by name, select all features bearing the
right river name, then (after selecting the Select Features by Area or Single
Click tool) scan through the segments and features of the intended river: 1)
deselecting the segments of a different river possessing the same name (there
are many such in Britain), 2) deselecting side segments which incorrectly bear
your intended river's name (also a lot), 3) selecting incorrectly named
segments (e.g., NULL) that if omitted would introduce gaps in the line of the
river, 4) adding to the selection creeks possessing a different name, and so
forth. Finally, invert the selection, delete all the features one didn't select
in the process above, then save.

It all works well – until the eventual moment when one's pressed shift or
control key momentarily fails to register, the entire laboriously selected set
of features clears back to just the last one touched – and I pull out even more
of my remaining hair.

Nor does saving the layer every now and then in the middle of the process do
any good – because what features are selected or not at that instant doesn't
get remembered in the save file.

This is the moment when it would be exceedingly nice if one could just pull
down Edit > Select > Reselect Features and thereby get back to the last
previous selected set of features as they existed just prior to the last
keystroke/click entered.

But that command appears to do nothing.

(Thanks again for your response!)

Best,
Michael McNeil

Hi Michael,
it seems to me the command works as expected [1], at least using QGIS
3.28 on Windows.

May you provide a detailed list of steps that lead to such command to
not work properly?

[Qgis-user] Reselect Features

2023-11-16 Per discussione Michael Edward McNeil via QGIS-User
Why doesn't the Edit > Select > Reselect Features command work? I've lost so
many complex selections because a) either my finger slipped, or the shift or
control key didn't function for an instant – together with b) whereby I can't
recover the lost selection with the foregoing command, as (from what I've read)
it's supposed to. (Reselect Features, in my experience, doesn't function
properly on either MacOS or Windows.)

As an alternative, by the way, to this delicate situation where work can be
lost at an accidental keystroke, why not add an "Add mode" and "Subtract mode"
where (till changed) all selections are either one or the other, and not (by
default) the type of keystroke that, at a stroke, will obliterate a long
selection process.

Re: [Qgis-user] Official check of plugins on "official" repository?

Maybe some platform to report faulty plugins, so that the plugins team can
talk with the plugin developer and eventually mark the plugins as
experimental in that case.

I agree that that message would be nice to have in the plugin menu. Maybe
open a feature request for it?

Thanks for your suggestions.

Re: [Qgis-user] Official check of plugins on "official" repository?

2023-11-16 Per discussione Agustin Lobo via QGIS-User
Dear Alexandre,
I understand the limitations of human resources. And my acknowledgment
to those involved in the QGIS project.
All I'm asking is a consistent terminology so that users are fully
aware of the potential problems: the only "official" or
fully tested plugins should be those which are now named "featured".
And the notice "Plugins are developed by independent organizations and
developers,
the QGIS organization does not take any responsibility for them" (or
similar), should be in QGIS Plugins/Manage and Install Plugins.
I'm already very involved on reporting issues in the github systems of
the plugins I use. Perhaps a system to report eventual problems caused
by the plugins in QGIS
could be considered so that QGIS users could use that information to
decide whether to install a given plugin or not. The current situation
in which installing or running a plugin can crash QGIS goes
against QGIS being contemplated as a stable and reliable software.
Hope QGIS developers find my comments useful.
Best,

Hi Grant,
The NoDATA values, if not specified are calculated from the source rasters. For
RGB imagery, this typically is either 0 or 255, unless you are using an alpha
band.
You can though remove the NoDATA tag from the raster. I know of two of ways to
do this.

1. Use gdal_edit with the -unsetnodata, which will modify the existing
dataset.

2. Use gdal_translate to copy the raster but by using the -a_nodata and
setting it to none, to remove the NoDATA tag

I would suggest if using the first one, that you make a backup of the raster,
just in case.
I hope that helps!
Kind Regards,

Richard

Hi Grant:

If you are ending up with null values and zero's, check the values in
the raster you are pan sharpening against the training or higher
resolution raster you are using to sharpen. Is there null data in the
high res raster.  Review the input requirements of the routine to ensure
the tool will work with your data. Perhaps pan sharpening a 3 channel
raster with a single channel raster creates the problem.

Re: [Qgis-user] Official check of plugins on "official" repository?

2023-11-16 Per discussione Alexandre Neto via QGIS-User
Hello Agustin,

I understand your point and I understand the value of what you propose.
Nevertheless, a full functionality check of each plugin would require human
resources that the qgis.org <http://qgis.org> project does not have.

The meaning of oficial plugin repository comes from a time that there was no
centralized place to search for plugins. You would need to find repositories
scattered all over the internet and add it manually. At some point it was
decided to centralise it as much as possible in one place.

The only plugins that are under qqgis.org <http://qqgis.org> responsibility are
the core plugins, the ones that come installed with QGIS.

Obviously that, in an ideal world, all plugins would be highly tested before
being allowed into the repository. But the small team responsible for accepting
the plugins already struggle to do a "simple" requirements check, with all the
new plugins and updates.

Please consider to support the testing efforts. Make sure to report the issues
to the respective plugin bug trackers. Consider supporting the developer's of
the plugins you depend the most, so it becomes more stable and reliable.

Thanks for the clarification,
> They are called featured plugins

Thus, the term is misleading. "featured" does not mean "certified".
In any case, the bottom issue is that plugins causing problems in QGIS
beyond the plugin itself, and in particular those just crashing QGIS
should not be entitled to be in the official repository or, at least,
required to keep the "experimental" tag.
In the absence of further information, the term "official" implies,
for the (naive?) user, a commitment to their functionality from the
QGIS steering committee.
I believe that the note in the QGIS plugins web portal;
"Plugins are developed by independent organizations and developers,
the QGIS organization does not take any responsibility for them."
is somehow conflicting with the term "official". And while all users
will read the term "official", very few will reach the aforementioned
note.
(perhaps this notice should also be in the QGIS plugins menu itself).

Hope this helps to keep QGIS to be seen as a stable and reliable tool.

Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS Integration with Oracle Spatial and Graph

2023-11-15 Per discussione Julien Cabieces via QGIS-User

Hi,

I'm not aware of specific documentation regarding Oracle except the
connection part in the QGIS user documentation [0]

The rest of QGIS will behave (almost) the same way no matter the
type of the data source.

There is no specific support for Oracle database Graph in QGIS. If I
understand correctly how it works, it would still be possible to request data
with
graph Oracle specific operators (using either view or layer query
definition into QGIS) but you wouldn't have specific tool which can fully
benefit
from them.

IIRC, it's almost the same situation in PostGRESQL.

Hi Laurent,
the error message should no longer show up using the latest available
plugin version 4.1.0, thanks to Étienne Trimaille and Matteo Ghetta.

[Qgis-user] Pansharpening Problem

2023-11-15 Per discussione Grant Boxer via QGIS-User
I am attempting to pansharpen a PRISMA hyperspectral RGB image and I am
getting areas within the image that are clipped (no data). These appear to
bands with zero values in two of the three bands. Anyone have a work around
or suggest how this can be avoided. I am using the gdal pansharpen tool and
latest release QGIS 3.34.

Cheers Grant

Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS - field calculator calculations not in attribute table

2023-11-15 Per discussione Emma Hain via QGIS-User
Hi Tony
Some thoughts to start with:
Does the student:
- have the correct write access to the data?
- is the field in the correct format?
- is the field hidden or a virtual/temporary field?

Cheers
Em

[Qgis-user] QEP: Authentication system updates

2023-11-15 Per discussione Nyall Dawson via QGIS-User
Hi lists,

I've created a new QGIS enhancement proposal at
https://github.com/qgis/QGIS-Enhancement-Proposals/issues/278
concerning changes to the inbuilt authentication system / secure storage
support in QGIS.

By its nature, the authentication framework needs to be secure and any
changes to the authentication logic need careful consideration.

Comments and discussion on the github ticket linked above are encouraged!

Kind regards,
Nyall

[Qgis-user] QGIS Integration with Oracle Spatial and Graph

2023-11-15 Per discussione Vega, Geovanni via QGIS-User
Hi

We are an Oracle Partner based in Mexico that wants to take a project for
our current Customer related with the Use of Oracle Database with the
feature of Spatial and Graph in order to integrate in the same database the
Cadastre relational data and the QGIS Content.

Using Oracle Database with the feature of Spatial and Graph as the
Geodatabase of QGIS instead of FileGeodatabase.

Could you give us some direction, related books or training to get hands of
experience related to the Use of Oracle Database with the feature of
Spatial and Graph as the Geodatabase of QGIS

Or the methodology to migrate current QGIS FileGeodatabase to Oracle
Database with the feature of Spatial and Graph.

Regards.

[Qgis-user] QGIS - field calculator calculations not in attribute table

2023-11-15 Per discussione Diaz, Tony A. via QGIS-User
Hello, a student of ours is trying to use the field calculator to calculate the
closest point on an arbitrary line for each point in an object and append the
column to the attribute table. The calculation itself was successful as well
as the mapping the result, but the calculations themselves are not on the
attribute table. Any ideas we can pass along to them?

[Qgis-user] Canvas larger than viewport is rendered/drawn for vector layers, but not for raster layers

2023-11-15 Per discussione Thomas Larsen Wessel via QGIS-User
This screen capture demonstrates much better than words:
https://imgur.com/5LSEsiY.

Is there any way I can make it prerender the raster data as well?

What I have already tried:
* setting almost infinite cache size
* all the relevant QGIS options/settings I could find
* both local (gpkg) and remote WMS raster data
* both Windows and Linux
* QGIS 3.22 and 3.30
* different CRS for layer

Some of my tests did make the rendering speed up, but no matter what it
always renders the raster data only for the canvas inside the view port,
and does not render anything outside of the view port, whereas vector data
is always rendered for an area that extends outside the view port.

Sincerely, Thomas
