Seems like it's not % but actually it count.
I have something like this:

Max  Allow: 9741.0 Smtp (974.1%)
Average  Allow: 8018.0 Smtp (801.8%)
Current  Allow: 8038.0 Smtp (803.8%)
Max  Deny:  6777.0 Smtp (677.7%)
Average  Deny:  5469.0 Smtp (546.9%)
Current  Deny:  5508.0 Smtp (550.8%)

why doesn't allow & deny add up to 100 %

I am thinking that this shows an avg of 8% of all mail sent to my

watchall is a great little tool. All of my machines are remote, so I SSH
into them and they look great on my laptop. I have to agree that trying
to watch them with the watchall tool on a local CRT kinda stinks though.
You could adjust your local font to something a little smaller and that
would make the windows scale better.

I think I understand what you're saying Remove spamhaus from your
blacklists file and use different RBLs. Or use the submission port to
send emails (port 587). Port 587 does not do a blacklist check.

[qmailtoaster] QMT ISO that works?

2007-04-19 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I've built quite a number of these QMT machines but lately, I'm having so many
problems, I need a starting point to get things working properly. While
installing, I get constant errors which I cannot resolve so wish to try
something different.

I saw an ISO of a pre-installed QMT somewhere but recall that the one I tried
didn't work very well. Actually, it just kept going into CentOS installation
mode and not installing QMT as I remember.

Anyone know of an ISO which does in fact work well?

I make the only ISO for the QMT package. Not sure which version you had
downloaded prior, but there's a new version with some more features out now:

wiki.qmailtoaster.com has more info an links.
It's been installed and tested on 2 of my dev machines, and installed on

Why would you check the POP? That's only for users to receive messages
from the server.
What you're looking for is POP before SMTP relaying. It's in the mailing

Yes it does. I'm assuming this was a new installation. We'll need some
more info, like OS, version, what steps you followed for installation,
etc. Usually what happens there is you failed some dependencies for
spamassassin so it was not installed.

Thanks for the reply,

I am running the newest version of qmailtoaster on a Fedora Core 6 box,

information from the qmailtoaster website to complete the installation.
the only thing I didn't do in the installation is I didn't setup the
djbdns and I didn't add any domain keys. and when I do a qmailctl stat
it doesn't show spamd in there. so I am assuming I need to re set that up.

RE: [qmailtoaster] QMT ISO that works?

2007-04-19 Thread Joseph Lundgren
Mike,

The existing QMT toaster works quite well for me. If the standard
installation fails because you're doing something wrong, then the
QMT-ISO install is also likely to fail. Maybe instead of deriding that
work, you should do the standard installation and figure out where
you're having problems.

If you cannot resolve your problems with the standard installation, you
may want to consider getting commercial support. See:

[qmailtoaster] Steps to change the IP address of qmail server

2007-04-19 Thread Bill Kwok

Dear all,

I am planning to change my ISP and hence the IP address of my server is
going to be changed.

Due to limited resources, I can't setup another server while switching over
to the new IP. My server has around 60 users. I plan to:

  1. Shorten the refresh time of my MX record to 900 (15 mins) from the
  current 3600 (1 hour) for 4 days to make sure all DNS gets the changes;
  2. change the MX record to the new IP address and plug my server to
  the new network

Does the above steps work and are they enough? My current MX record use the
following settings:
   refresh = 3600 (1 hour)
   retry   = 900 (15 mins)
   expire  = 360 (41 days 16 hours)
   default TTL = 86400 (1 day)

Your comments are appreciated.

Best regards,
Bill

RE: [qmailtoaster] Steps to change the IP address of qmail server

2007-04-19 Thread Jared Markell
This isn't bad. Only thing I would do differently is possible setting both
IPs in your MX records, the new one having a lower priority, before you do
the IP change. This can only be done though, if you know the new IP address.

domain  IN MX 10 old.ip.add.ress
IN MX 20 new.ip.add.ress

This way, even slower-to-update servers will try to send to the new one once
the old one is dead. After the IP change is live, remove your old MX 10 and
make your MX 20 the new 10.

server

Dear all,

I am planning to change my ISP and hence the IP address of my
server is going to be changed.

Due to limited resources, I can't setup another server while

switching over to the new IP. My server has around 60 users. I
plan to:

   1. Shorten the refresh time of my MX record to 900 (15 mins)
  from the current 3600 (1 hour) for 4 days to make sure all
  DNS gets the changes;
   2. change the MX record to the new IP address and plug my
  server to the new network

Does the above steps work and are they enough? My current MX
record use the following settings:

refresh = 3600 (1 hour)
retry   = 900 (15 mins)
expire  = 360 (41 days 16 hours)
default TTL = 86400 (1 day)

Your comments are appreciated.

Best regards,

Bill

I didn't say it fails, I said there are problems. I didn't get into the
problems because they aren't that big. I asked if there was something else to
see if I had options.

Deriding? You're putting an awful lot of words in my mouth aren't you?

Downloading it right now and will give it a try. I'm sure it was user error
especially since I had not read much, just gave it a very quick try.

Well, if I can get it going, it'll make another 4 servers here.

[qmailtoaster] Sender Address Verification?

2007-04-19 Thread Sergey Menshikov

Hi All,

Does qmaltoaster support Sender Address Verification?

This is when mail server keeps e-mail in some inbound queue after
receiving it while checking sender's address via outbound SMTP.

I was told this is very effective against spam on low-volume sites.

Thank you!

Re: [qmailtoaster] Sender Address Verification?

2007-04-19 Thread Jean-Paul van de Plasse

Hi,

No it does not (yet).
I did have intent of making this, but shortage of time got in the way.
So far I did not see any other requests about this also.

It is also effective on high volume servers, as long as there is some sort
of caching.

Many large ISP's are using this technique.

You put to many recipients in the To: or CC: fields. That is defined in
your /etc/tcprules.d/tcp.smtp file. You'll see:

CHKUSER_RCPTLIMIT="50",CHKUSER_WRONGRCPTLIMIT="10"
Teh RCPTLIMIT is how many people can be in the To: or CC: fields (yours
will be different than mine is), and the WRONG one will be for when mail
comes in - in my config if it fails more than 10 recipients it gets bounced.

Nope. qmailctl cdb rebuilds all the .cdb files. Restarting just reloads
the current configs (tcp.smtp has to be rebuilt)

Re: [qmailtoaster] Steps to change the IP address of qmail server

2007-04-19 Thread Janno Sannik
I used this: http://lartc.org/howto/lartc.rpdb.multiple-links.html howto
to route multiple uplinks. At first i configured the first one (old one)
to be default gateway. Then i got another uplink then i changed script
to reflect that. And it worked flawlessly.
This is needed for your qmail box to know then there is incoming
connection to respond to that through gateway it game from. By default
it accepts your first isp's connection but sends response to the default
gateway (isp2, the new one).

Since I had old junk laying around I was able to put together test
environment: 2gateways, 1 client , 1 server with 2 gateways to test it
out if it actually works out of the box. There were some tweaks, but it
worked.
