Re: [qmailtoaster] Delivery delay when restarting spamassassin

2007-11-12 Thread PakOgah
I am not having problem with SA
but with clamav, I get soft-reject everytime I restart my server (it's a
Pentium III with memory less than 1GB)
but the same clamav version on the higher spec server run smoothly

so I think I need to upgrade my memory, so clamav can load its database
faster

[qmailtoaster] Domain Keys/Yahoo Blocking

2007-11-12 Thread Kyle Quillen
Hello all,

I have been fighting a problem with yahoo in that they are deferring all of
my mail. Of course I have gone and filled out all of their forms and such
but I just cannot seem to figure out what is going on and they for sure are
not getting back to me. Anyways I think I have narrowed it down to be that
it is a domain keys problem and that is why they are blocking me. Does
anyone have any kind of an idea as to what I can do to start to get my
emails flowing back to them?

Thanks for your help

Q

Here is the error messages I keep getting:

Connected to 216.39.53.1 but greeting failed.
Remote host said: 421 Message from (74.218.24.5) temporarily deferred -
4.16.50.

:

ly deferred" or "421 Message from x.x.x.x temporarily deferred"
errors when sending mail to Yahoo!?

If you are seeing the error code "421 Message from x.x.x.x temporarily
deferred" or "451 Message temporarily deferred" in your SMTP logs, this
indicates that the message you attempted to send was not accepted at
Yahoo!. It is not a permanent error; your system will automatically
re-try later.

If you are seeing this same error consistently over an extended period
of time, and you feel that your policies and practices comply with our
guidelines (described below), we would encourage you to contact us with
detailed information so that we can help diagnose your problem.

For bulk mailers, please visit this page
to
review our best practice recommendations and, if appropriate, request
assistance.

If your mail server does not primarily send bulk mailings (e.g., you run
a personal, corporate, educational, or ISP mail server), please fill out
this form instead.

If you are not the administrator of the mail server in question, please
contact the administrator directly with the error message you are receiving.

Whom ever helps you will ultimately help me as well. Not only do I have this
problem with yahoo but email to hotmail just plain disappears. Not even a
bounce and nothing in their bulk/spam folders either.

For Yahoo, you should have domainkeys setup properly.

For Hotmail, you should setup a null SPF 2 (senderID) record
(http://www.openspf.org/SPF_vs_Sender_ID) like this "spf2.0/pra". This
solved all off my issues with Hotmail/MSN. Before, I had the same
Hotmail issues you describe.

You should also have a normal SPF 1 record.

Google checks both SPF and DK.

According to dnsstuff I seem to but then, it's not always right either. Are
there any sites on the net that allow you to send them an email as a test for
an analyzed result?

Can't say I'm sure about domainkeys. I thought I had turned that off? I'll
have to look. Thanks for the reply on this.

Out of curiosity, have you tried dnsstuff to see what their result is? That's
the only site I've tried for testing since I don't know of any others.

As for Yahoo, they don't check SPF. They are the originators of

Out of curiosity, have you tried dnsstuff to see what their result is?
That's
the only site I've tried for testing since I don't know of any others.

I installed it about two weeks ago. Yes, the script needs updating. I
tried by adding a LATESTVERSION variable, but still had problems.

Heres the diff:
### DIFF BEGINS ###
< LATESTVERSION=roundcubemail-0.1-rc1.1.tar.gz
59,60c58
< #wget

< #tar xzf roundcubemail-0.1beta2.2.tar.gz
< tar xzf $LATESTVERSION
< mv $LATESTVERSION roundcube
---
> tar xzf roundcubemail-0.1beta2.2.tar.gz
> mv roundcubemail-0.1beta2 roundcube
### DIFF ends ###

The tar extracts with a different name, so the mv command fails. I think
from there I did a line by line command, but I am sure the script could be
fixed.

Thoughts...

It's pretty, but nothing to fancy. There is no calendar, and contacts need
more fields. SquirrelMail (SM) can be prettied up with image_buttons and
other plugins. SM Spam buttons are worth much more to me.

Oh, and running roundcube in parallel is no problem.

I wasn't aware DK was broken in the toaster? I admin several QMT boxes,
but none of them actually use DK to sign, they just validate incoming DK
signed messages and that part works fine. The only qmail box I use to
sign with DK is my qmailrocks-ish machine.

I can try it out on a QMT box late tonight, but won't have time to get

You can rsync the /home/vpopmail/* and other important files
(/var/qmail/control/*, etc.) if you want. I have a backup script on my
site (v2gnu.com) that will be a little more automated - it's out of date
though. The most recent version is in the QTP package
(qtp.qmailtoaster.com). Restore scripts are in both places as well, with
QTP being the newest.

[qmailtoaster] Domainkeys - Can't seem to get it to work

2007-11-12 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I just can't seem to get this to work and I badly need help at this point. One
problem is that one of the DNS servers is a plesk server and there does not
seem to be any way of adding the domainkey information in it's DNS.

Second, I've read and read and tried all sorts of formats yet testing always
leads to "DomainKey-Status: bad format: No DomainKey signature found".

In BIND, I am entering this as a couple of TXT records. My latest version is;

private._domainkey.domain.com
k=rsa t=y; p=MIHLONG CODE

_domainkey.domain.com
t=y o=-

I'm guessing that I've not found something very vital such as having to TURN
ON domainkeys for QMT or putting something in my tcp.smtp file to actually
allow remote servers to see this?

http://www.qmailtoaster.com/centos/cnt40/EZ-QmailToaster-CentOS-4.3.txt has
a pretty good set of instructions for getting domain keys working. If you
have modified your tcp.smtp file then you need to add the DKSIGN variable as
follows:
DKSIGN="/var/qmail/control/domainkeys/%/private"

Forgot to add;

I'm also getting;
DKIM-Status: failed (no signature found)

Note that I have generated the proper key file in the domainkey directory.

If I remember correctly Domain Keys was broken in the Toaster and thus was
disabled.

I dont know for sure myself because I'm just learning it, too. But:

When you talk about domain keys and qmt, there are two seperate parts.

1. setting up DNS and certificates so servers you send mail to can verify
your domainkey setup.

2. parsing and verifying domainkey setups for incoming email.

I think when we read that "domainkeys is broken" what is being referred to
is #2.

This is a problem I'm constantly dealing with, too. I think if we pool our

I know Microsoft's SPF checker is broken. But the postmaster that I got in

I have some time and even a bit of money that would be worth it to invest to

If you want to have a DomainKey signature for all outgoing (i.e. relayed)
Email then each record in your tcp.smtp file will need the DKSIGN variable.

The wiki has some good information about how this file is processed:

I'm using 'v=spf1 mx -all' for my spf record. Is this a good, generic

Re: [qmailtoaster] this user has no $HOME/Maildir

2007-11-12 Thread Istvan Köpe

I rebooted the server several times it didn't help.
mysqlcheck vpopmail gives me "mysqlcheck: Got error: 1045: Access denied
for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO) when trying to connect"
But I don't know where this "localhost" comes from. There is nothing
called localhost on my server. I renamed everything, of course before
installing the server.

Subject: [qmailtoaster] this user has no $HOME/Maildir

Hello everyone,

After a power loss, the email server stopped working.
I receive this error for every account for POP3 connection: this user
has no $HOME/Maildir

And I receive this error for every account for webmail connection:
Error connecting to IMAP server: localhost.
111 : Connection refused

I uninstalled qmail-toaster, package by package and than reinstalled
it and I still have the same error.

Do you have any ideas?

Re: [qmailtoaster] this user has no $HOME/Maildir

2007-11-12 Thread Istvan Köpe
I presume there was a file corruption somewhere, because this mail
server doesn't break down by itself. But if there is a corruption there
must be a file check / disk check command which should fix it, right? I
tried:

fsck.ext3 /dev/md2
e2fsck 1.39 (29-May-2006)
/dev/md2 is mounted.

WARNING!!! Running e2fsck on a mounted filesystem may cause
SEVERE filesystem damage.

Do you really want to continue (y/n)? no

check aborted.

But I presume there is a way to run a disk check.
Yes I have to mention I'm working on this server remotely, so I don't
have physical access to it.

Just try this :
mysql -u root -p

it should ask you for the root password. try logging into mysql and
check the vpopmail database.

log into your server.
At the command prompt, type as below.

mysql -u root -p

It should prompt you to enter the root password for mysql.
enter it. If it is correct, you should get a mysql prompt.

you should actually use mysqlcheck vpopmail -p

The -p specifies that you need to give a password for the command to
work . The error that you are getting is because you have a password set
and are not calling mysql with the -p option.
