 I'm using 'v=spf1 mx -all' for my spf record. Is this a good, generic

 domains listed in the given domain's MX section)

 So does the list agree that this is a sane generic DNS TXT record to
 suggest for spf?

That is definitely how it should look unless you have a specific reason
to include additional hosts.

IIRC from the standard, the use of mx and ptr is unreliable and should
be avoided at all costs.

So the list dosen't agree? Could you suggest what should be used as a
generic SPF record, Erik?

Subject: [qmailtoaster] Delivery delay when restarting spamassassin

Is anyone else noticing a delay in Spamassassin when it's been restarted?
I updated some rules and restarted the spam daemons and have noticed a
10-30 second delay before the system will start processing messages again.
During the downtime, the following error is generated on the sending
system:

2007-11-11 19:15:47.688524500 delivery 87: deferral:

And then the following is generated on the system I restarted the spam
daemon on:

2007-11-28 Thread Todd W

From: Adam Cantwell [EMAIL PROTECTED]

As per my previous posts this morning on this topic, the following has
been 100% effective on seven qmail servers that I manage in getting mail
delivered:

Hotmail/MSN:  null spf2 TXT record
Yahoo: setup DK to sign outbound mail for your domain
Gmail: setup both DK to sign and spf1 TXT records

If anybody has does all of those steps and (after DNS propagates) still
has problems sending mail to any of those providers, then I want to know
because I'm not seeing any problems.

Hi Adam,

I have all of the settings you specify for osbank.net and mail to hotmail is
silently discarded and yahoo and gmail go to the bulk mail box.

Thanks for your interest. If you want any more info let me know.

Regards,

Todd W.

Hi,

I added a couple of rules recently to a busy server and after restarting sa
it took indeed a lot of time...
So I ran a sa-compile -D and it turn out an error of unable to use my new
file. Although it had no errors on --lint.

After loosing some time on this I simply deleted all updates ans rules
emporium files and runned an update, added my new file and compiled it.
Suprise!!! no errors no delays... go figure...

Still, no delays now :)

hope it helps

I probably should take it out of Beta. I'm using it in several

Re: [qmailtoaster] Domain Keys/Yahoo Blocking

2007-11-28 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hi Todd,

 As per my previous posts this morning on this topic, the following has
 been 100% effective on seven qmail servers that I manage in getting mail
 delivered:

 Hotmail/MSN:  null spf2 TXT record
 Yahoo: setup DK to sign outbound mail for your domain
 Gmail: setup both DK to sign and spf1 TXT records

Can you elaborate on how one would go about setting up multiple records such
as this? I'd like to give this a try and see if I can finally get past my
yahoo/gmail/hotmail problems.

Very much appreciated.

Mike

I have yet to find a way of getting past these problems. Yahoo mail and gmail
is still being deferred while hotmail just plain disappears.

What was the final suggestion on this? I can't seem to find those emails and
wish to try them once more.

Re: [qmailtoaster] Domain Keys/Yahoo Blocking

2007-11-28 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hmm, I'm still being defferred by yahoo and going to the junk folder on
hotmail. Junk folder is at least something and gmail works perfectly now.

private._domainkey.xxx.com. IN  TXT k=rsa; p=MEww**SNIP**AQIDAQAB
xxx.com.IN  TXT spf2.0/pra
xxx.com.IN  TXT v=spf1 mx -all
domainkey.xxx.com.  IN  TXT t=y; o=-

I still have spf set to 1 in my spfbehavior file.
I've set up the DK in tcp.smtp.

My tcp.smtp;

127.:allow,RELAYCLIENT=,DKSIGN=/var/qmail/control/domainkeys/%/private,
RBLSMTPD=
192.168.1.:allow,RELAYCLIENT=,RBLSMTPD=,SENDER_NOCHECK=1,
DKSIGN=/var/qmail/control/domainkeys/%/private
xx.xx.xx.:allow,RELAYCLIENT=,RBLSMTPD=,SENDER_NOCHECK=1,
DKSIGN=/var/qmail/control/domainkeys/%/private
:allow,BADMIMETYPE=,BADLOADERTYPE=M,CHKUSER_RCPTLIMIT=50,
CHKUSER_WRONGRCPTLIMIT=10,\
QMAILQUEUE=/var/qmail/bin/simscan,DKSIGN=/var/qmail/control/domainkeys/%/
private,\
DKVERIFY=DEGIJKfh,DKQUEUE=/var/qmail/bin/qmail-queue.orig

Some things which aren't clear;
The % is replace by the domain name in the From: header.

I'm assuming this is saying that this *will* be replaced by the application
and not that I need to enter the domain name here. I make that assumption
because if I was doing multi domains on this server, this would not work.

DKQUEUE
The DKQUEUE variable points to the original qmail-queue program for passing
the message on down the line when verification completes:
DKQUEUE=/var/qmail/bin/qmail-queue.orig
This is probably not necessary, but is provided for clarity.

Needed or deprecated?

Then I went to the yahoo testing page and tested;

Testing xxx.com
New test
No _domainkey TXT record found for xxx.com

Have I forgotten something or will it be a DNS propagation thing?

Mike

Hello all,

I think I am getting somewhere with this now.

I am getting through to yahoo's bulk mail and I think that I see where the
issue is.

If I email from gmail to yahoo I get

ta550.mail.mud.yahoo.com from=gmail.com; domainkeys=pass (ok)

If I email from wifi7.com to yahoo

domainkeys=neutral (no sig)

So it does not look like my emails are being signed

However if I send my email from webmail there is a dkim on them.

Here is a copy of my tcp.smtp file

Any thoughts?

I think these items control how your local server handles domainkeys for
inbound messages. You are working on domainkeys for outbound messages.

Probably. Check the TTL on the record. Even then they may not flush thier
cache until much after the TTL expires.

[qmailtoaster] how to fight local generated spam?

2007-11-28 Thread Felipe Ceglia - PY1NB

Hello gurus,

This may have been asked million times already, but...

How do I fight local spammers?

Recently I noticed my emails were as slow as snail-mail... When I run
qmqtools -r, I saw 55000+ messages on the queue...

With a small analysis, I found that it was a client of mine, which
probably had some virus running and started offering viagra and other
drugs via email.

What can I do against this? I've took a look at /var/qmail, and I found
nothing special.

Thank you,

Felipe Ceglia

There's notes in the wiki under tcp.smtp on how to enable spam scanning
on your users - the rest of the tcp.smtp data is out of date, so be
selective if you use anything else off of there.

[qmailtoaster] Locals file

2007-11-28 Thread Phil Leinhauser
I think I need a quick review of the Locals control.

I just created a new domain from command line. I then created an account in
it and tested from an outside email. The message bounced right back to me
with the Sorry no mailbox here by that name (#5.1.1) error. I spelled the
address correctly even sent a message out from that account so I could do a
reply to be sure of the address. Still bounced. I looked into the SMTP log
and I see the message coming in and accepted but it bounces.

I have several other domains that all were receiving email with no problem.
I looked into the locals control by using Webmin and saw the problem
domain listed but no others except localhost. I removed the domain from the
list and now email is working. In the docs, it says all local domain must
be listed in locals but if I put any of my other domains in there, I get
bounces.

What am I missing here? It seems to be working fine but not the way the
docs say it should.

Thanks,
Phil
