I'm using port 25, but I have the private IP's whitlisted via tcprules
(RBLSMTPD="").
I pay closer attention and could determinate that when the problem occurs,
for a short period of time (less than 5 minutes) no one can send mails.
I´m waiting for the next occurence to run top, free, and vmstat. Maybe is a
process consuming cpu and/or ram, but it is really strange, becouse it is
not the tipical short-of-hardware problem.

[qmailtoaster] CHKUSER rejected sender: temporary DNS problem

2008-07-23 Thread Natalio Gatti
I'm having a problem that is becoming more and more often (and annoying).
When some users (including me) wants to send an email, they get an answer
from my qmailtoaster server saying:
"temporary DNS problem"

When I check the logs, it says:

@40004887336107b0c5dc CHKUSER rejected sender: from
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]::> remote  rcpt <>
: temporary DNS problem

It seems that is not interpreting the "rcpt" part. I'm using outlook 2003
and XP.

DNS is properly configured, and I have a bind running in caching-only mode
on the qmailtoaster server.

BTW, my qt is (only important packages are listed):
[EMAIL PROTECTED] smtp]# rpm -qa | grep toaster
vpopmail-toaster-5.4.17-1.3.4
qmail-pop3d-toaster-1.03-1.3.15
qmailmrtg-toaster-4.2-1.3.3
simscan-toaster-1.3.1-1.3.6
clamav-toaster-0.93.1-1.3.19
qmail-toaster-1.03-1.3.15
courier-authlib-toaster-0.59.2-1.3.6
spamassassin-toaster-3.1.8-1.3.8
daemontools-toaster-0.76-1.3.3
courier-imap-toaster-4.1.2-1.3.7

How can I debug this error?

Same problem.

And I'm still looking on the logs for something strange.

I found this:

to file descriptor 1: Broken pipe

That's a good start, but you still haven't said what your server load is
like. How many users, how using IMAP, how many using POP3, etc.
You may also try increasing the courier daemon in
/etc/courier/authlib/authdaemonrc (default is 15). Here's the comments
from the file:
# You may need to increase daemons if as your system load increases.
Symptoms

# include sporadic authentication failures. If you start getting
# authentication failures, increase daemons. However, the default of 5
# SHOULD be sufficient. Bumping up daemon count is only a short-term
# solution. The permanent solution is to add more resources: RAM, faster
# disks, faster CPUs...

Looks to me like you're going in the right direction, Dan.

CentOS is the best distro for the toaster, as it's most widely used and
stable. The 5.0 install scripts should do just fine with 5.2. If you can
afford a few bucks, I'd use the ISO, but using the install scripts should
get you roughly to the same spot. The ISO will save you a good bit of time
though.

I'm not familiar with mdaemon, but as long as the mail on that system is in
maildir format, it should be fairly trivial to migrate the mail across.
There are many ways to do this, so you can use whatever you're familiar with
for copying files from NT to Linux. If the files are in mbox format, I
believe there are a few tools available on the 'net that convert from mbox
to maildir.

Hope that helps. Oh, and welcome to the list! :)

[qmailtoaster] Importing mdaemon messages into qmt

2008-07-23 Thread allcoms
Hi!

I'm new to both the list and qmt, got a few questions before I install
it on a test machine tomorrow and I'd very much appreciate bending the
wise ear of this lovely list :)

We have a very outdated mdaemon mail server at our school - its a very
old, unsupported version of mdaemon running under NT4 on a PII300 w/
128MB RAM!! Yes, honestly. Think its about time?

The plan is to have 'current' hardware recycled and, after testing,
replaced with something more modern like a P4 w/ 512MB RAM or so on
which I'll install qmt-iso on it and then import all our users as well
as their mail onto this new qmt server. I've searched the mailing list
archives and checked out the wikis but I couldn't find any info or
existing scripts on how best to import everything over from mdaemon to
qmt.

I'm half the way as I did find this script for importing just the
users and their addresses from mdaemon:

http://wiki.qmailtoaster.com/index.php/Bulk_User_Adding_For_Qmail_Toaster

Has anyone on this list successfully switched both users and their
messages (w/attachments) from mdaemon to qmt? Do you have any scripts
or tips for anyone about to undertake this?

As I say, I'm going to try setting up qmt with qmt-iso first, but
would their be significant gains to be made setting up a more
customised server? Whats the best distro for qmt (barring qmt-iso?)?
Do the Centos 5.0 install scripts work OK under Centos 5.2?

Thanks very much for your help!

Dan
