I have done some testing and found that it does not resolve as
expected. If I change my option in my named.conf file to recursion
yes; it then works. From what I have read I don't want to have it set
up that way. What is reason not to have recursion set to yes?

OK, that's what I want to do. I have just heard and read it's not a
good idea. I have been running it that way and it's been working fine.

I am just trying to implement the caching nameserver. I don't really
need to go through this exercise, since it worked just fine before and I
could easily go back to how I was doing it before. We were chasing down
a slow condition with my server that turned out to be something else
after all. A caching nameserver is recommended for speed and
efficiency, and that's why I wanted to implement it. Are you running a
caching nameserver on yours?

Re: [qmailtoaster] queue not porcessed

2009-09-28 Thread Eric Shubert
We're guessing here, but it's possible that qmail didn't terminate
successfully (or cleanly) when the update was actually done.
qtp-newmodel presently simply waits 5 seconds then displays the result
of qmailctl stat.

Does anyone happen to remember seeing anything other than 'not running',
like perhaps 'want down', for any services that were listed when qmail
was stopped just before the upgrade was performed???

I'm going to enhance qtp-newmodel to wait for 'not running' status for
all services before proceeding with the update. This should ensure that
everything is stopped before the update is done. Whether it keeps the
queue corruption from happening any more is anyone's guess. I think
there's a good chance of it though.

I'm going to enhance qtp-newmodel to wait for 'not running' status for

I figured it out. There was a forward that was causing the message
below. This does not explain why it started looping to begin with.
Luckily the account that started looping to begin with was relatively
new and not much grief in deleting it and re creating it. This is where
the forward was throwing me a curve. Jake was right on the mark.

At your suggestion I don't use VQAdmin to add or remove users. CLI

It all appears to be back to normal.

Thanks Lucian.

We still don't know for sure how the queues became borked. Nothing in
that area has changed that we know of.

At any rate, if anyone experiences delayed deliveries after an update,
the thing to do would be to stop qmail and run the queue_repair.py tool.

It would be helpful if someone with the error would post the results
from their queue_repair.py run. I do have one such output and would like
to compare it to others. Perhaps that would provide a clue.

I'm going to enhance qtp-newmodel to wait for 'not running' status for
all services before proceeding with the update. This should ensure
that everything is stopped before the update is done. Whether it keeps
the queue corruption from happening any more is anyone's guess. I
think there's a good chance of it though.

Is this after a recent upgrade?
Try running the queue-repair.py script to fix issues with the queue.

I do have one such output and would
like to compare it to others. Perhaps that would provide a clue.

Re: [qmailtoaster] queue not porcessed

2009-09-28 Thread Eric Shubert

No, it simply sends output to the terminal.

I suppose that a customized version for QTP which would tee off a log
file automatically would be nice. That would be pretty simple to do with
a script wrapper. Would anyone like to take a shot at writing a
qtp-queue-repair script that would do this? It would simply need to pass
any parameters it gets along to the python script, and tee the output to
a log file somewhere.

Same here on one I fixed for someone this morning. No such file or
directory: queue/lock/trigger
I'll look at the last changes in the spec file a little more in depth
and see if timing there may have been an issue.
I would be curious to see if anyone who updated using a different method
than qtp-newmodel experienced the same issue. That would narrow it down
a little.

queue/lock/trigger is the named pipe that's not supposed to be installed
in the sandbox, but it should be in the real install. It's no longer
listed in the 'files' section of the spec file, so it doesn't belong to
the package any more.

I'm checking some things...

If you install Qmailtoaster-Plus (http://qtp.qmailtoaster.com) then you
can just:

qmlog smtp
or
qmlog send

Or whatever log you're wanting to view. If you do not have it installed,
you can pipe the log through tai64nlocal to convert the timestamps to
human-readable:

tail -n 50 /var/log/qmail/smtp/current | tai64nlocal
If you're talking about the actual log files in the log dirs, there was
a script floating around on the list that would do this. Search the
archives for more information.

Otherwise you''ll need to rename them yourself.
