Hi Eric,
was just to talk to him in Italian :). I had something in the old days that I 
used a plugin to do that. but with the new server I did end up removing as many 
are using the qmailadmin OOO.

I confirm that I use dovecot lda.

after checking the wiki I found the cause: I missed to add

|/var/qmail/bin/preline -f /usr/libexec/dovecot/deliver -d $EXT@$USER 
-opostmaster_address=postmas...@yourdomain.tld

to .qmail-default

  It seems the default skin is "larry" yet there is no
skin by that name. The only one in the skins folder is "elastic".
Changed the default to elastic and it all works now.

  It seems to be an issue with a skin or selected skin not found.
The error was in the Roundcube error file not the the httpd log.

I ended up actually being able to get it to work two ways. The key to 
using port 25 was the tcp.smtp line that Eric suggested. Once that's in 
place, the following settings in '/etc/roundcubemail/config.inc.php' worked:


$config['smtp_server'] = '127.0.0.1';
$config['smtp_port'] = 25;
$config['smtp_user'] = '';
$config['smtp_pass'] = '';

After updating tcp.smtp to contain:

127.:allow,RELAYCLIENT="",RBLSMTPD="",NOP0FCHECK="1"

I ran 'qmailctl cdb' to rebuild the database.

For the version using port 587, on the other hand, the settings that 
worked for me were:


$config['smtp_server'] = 'tls://127.0.0.1';
$config['smtp_port'] = 587;
$config['smtp_user'] = '%u';
$config['smtp_pass'] = '%p';

$config['smtp_conn_options'] = array(
  'ssl' => array(
'peer_name' => 'mail.example.com',
'verify_peer'  => false,
'verify_peer_name' => false,
'cafile'   => '/var/qmail/control/servercert.pem',
  ),
);

(replace 'mail.example.com' by the name of your mailhost).

As there doesn't seem to be any particular reason to use TLS/port 587 
when connection to the webmail clients is already secured via HTTPS, I'm 
going with the port 25 approach for now.

Squirrelmail work the same way.

and sending username and password -- but that gets me a 'STARTTLS failed' error 
in the logs. According to https://starttls-everywhere.org/, TLS is working 
correctly on my box, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ...

I've installed php 7.1 in centos 7 successfully. So have others. I'm not 
sure what the problem is. The Remi repo should upgrade roundcube.

slew of warning messages, most of which read:


    PHP Warning:  count(): Parameter must be an array or an 
object that implements Countable in

Mixed in with those is a single instance of:

    PHP Warning:  session_start(): Failed to read session data: 
user (path: /var/lib/php/session) in 
/usr/share/roundcubemail/program/lib/Roundcube/rcube_session.php

It looks to me as if Roundcube is trying and failing to find a 
plugin (or anything else) that implements the 'authenticate'

warning messages, most of which read:


PHP Warning:  count(): Parameter must be an array or an object 
that implements Countable in 
/usr/share/roundcubemail/program/lib/Roundcube/rcube_plugin_api.php on 
line 406


Mixed in with those is a single instance of:

PHP Warning:  session_start(): Failed to read session data: user 
(path: /var/lib/php/session) in 
/usr/share/roundcubemail/program/lib/Roundcube/rcube_session.php on 
line 117


It looks to me as if Roundcube is trying and failing to find a plugin 
(or anything else) that implements the 'authenticate' hook. It's 
possible that that's not critical, and that it falls back to some core 
authentication method -- which is then failing because of a 
session-related issue.


Some other data points:

The directory '/var/lib/php/session' exists, and can be read and 
written by the 'apache' user.


The database parameters in '/etc/roundcubemail/config.inc.php' are 
able to connect to the database.


Session storage is set to 'db':

  $config['session_storage'] = 'db'

Changing this to 'php' does not resolve the issue.

Rainloop and Squirrelmail both run without problems on this host. 
Squirrelmail creates session records in '/var/lib/php/session' 
successfully.


Roundcube version is 1.1.12, and configuration files are taken 
directly from the qmailtoaster.com site.

I manage to use sql driver with password plugin.
At the begining it did not work because my vpopmail password contained a 
"@", after changed it worked.

In the plugins/password/config.inc.php file I have:

$config['password_driver'] = 'sql';
$config['password_db_dsn'] = 'mysql://vpopmail:password@localhost/vpopmail';

I would add a user or look at the user info for your vpopmail in the 
/home/vpopmail/etc you should have a file with the vpopmail.mysql info which 
contains the password and the user.. You can always add a user to your vpopmail 
like this

mysql to your sql server and using diff options or you can just grant all the 
privilege example: grant all privileges on vpopmail.* to user@localhost 
identified by “mynewpasswordisgreat”; 

That should grant that and you can use that in roundcube I use vpopmail on mine 
and did not add a new one. I notice there is an issue with using php 7x

yum install php-mysql

yum install roundcubemail

Sorry about the delayed response Ridwan. Yes I have installed the 
vacation filter in roundcube. I don't remember all the details, but it 
did involve the activating of sieve and managesieve in dovecot and 
roundcube and enabling firewall rule for managesieve, port 4190, I 
think. I'm not sure if this is the only way, but it's the one I worked on.

# yum install roundcubemail

And got the following error:

Error: php56w-common conflicts with php-common-5.3.3-40.el6_6.x86_64
 You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
 You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest

Anyone run into, suggestions?

It is impossible to imagine that roundcube kills or messes with Dovecot. 
I run roundcube on a separate web server in many cases for separation of 
web services from the core mail system. Dovecot login processes dying 
with Signal 15 are probably due to file permissions (don't know how that 
could happen).
Another thing to watch out with Dovecot is that it's EXTREMELY sensitive 
to time drift. So make sure you have NTP running on the server to guard 
against that.

Hey Dave,

Not really a whole lot of issues to expect with roundcube. It speaks regular 
IMAP with a DB backend for some data. I'd recommend looking into sauserprefs 
(install via RC Plugin, look it up). I don't really host massive users (just 
family really) but it's useful to change the exact way Spamassassin works for 
each individual user and letting them configure blacklists, languages, scores 
etc.

Takes some work to get it to run (need the DB and table setup, hangs Spamd to 
use it) but I could dig all that up for you.

In my opinion there is only Roundcube right now. Everything else looks way too 
80s and is clumsy to use.

I am running a Centos 6 and 7 VM test boxes, so I will go ahead and test 
further.

Any  caveats to worry about?

I like the the roundcube interface much better than squirrelmail's and
am glad to see it finely out of beta. It was there for so long I just
stopped checking on it. Anyway, IMHO, I think if compatibility is not in
question it is a good direction.

I also do not  use round cube  nor do i use  nginx .
nginx  sounds intresting -- but it is hard to imagine anything other 
than the mighty Apache

I am using Nginx for Roundcube and my webservers i generel - and also 
using nginx as proxy for apache (NAS).


On my mailserver I am still using apache for qmailadmin.
