Re: [QUAD-L] SP Cath size

2015-11-25 Thread Regina Fuller
My Doctor did the same thing I have a 24fr almost 13 yrs now with 5cc balloon.
He said the same thing it will help with less sediment and I also use silicone
since allergic to latex ones. Like Quadius said maybe go to a bigger balloon.
Since you don't want to a bigger catheter. Regina

Re: [QUAD-L] Re: [quad] list. Being a quad

2012-08-27 Thread Regina Fuller
I know we all became a quad in different ways. None of us asked for it, but I
think we've all have made the most of it. I believe there is a God, who saved
me from a life that was going downward fast. My accident was diving off a pier
into a lake I had been drinking. I drowned, I coded 3 times when got to the
hospital, had so many infections becuz of the water they kept tellin my mom I
wasnt going to make it thru the nite they told her this every nite. After a
month they finally operated on my neck but couldnt tell me how much movement I
would have but I came thru n I'm a c6-7. To me this was a second chance to do
something more and was able to raise my daughter again becuz she was 9 I was 28
I had to go to a nursing home after I got out of TIRR, but with the help from
people from this list and God I went to a disabilty apartment and got my
daughter back when she was 14. Shes now 22 and gave me 2 grandkids. I also have
a wonderful man in my life and we
have a house and 4 dogs, I'm closer to my family too. So even though Im in a
chair and I have trials that we all go thru as quads. I thank God Im alive and
I have this chance. Also my daughter told me that she doesnt know how I do it
being a quad she said she didnt think she could I told her you never know what
you can do until it happens to you and that means anything people go through.
We all get frustrated, depressed and every other feeling, but We are all here
for a reason and I for one am glad y'all are here for the great advice for the
friendships for the knowledge and the questions. I thank God for all the people
on this list and I pray each of us gets our dreams and wishes answered.

Re: [QUAD-L] suprapubic

2012-07-28 Thread Regina Fuller
Ive had a suprapubic for about 10 yrs now went from latex to silicone even
found a silione catheter thats as flexible as latex since found out I was
allergic to the latex. I get mine changed every 3 wks if I wait for 4 wks I
have bad spasms n some AD. I also take a pain pill before I go so my body is
more relaxed.
I use a legbag during the day and bedbag at nite. I usually just rinse them
good with hot water, but lately been gettin alot of uti's so been rinsing them
with vinegar n hot water. Also if I get clogged I use vinegar n water to
irrigate.
Also talk with your urologist get him to work with you how often you should get
it changed like if 4 wks is to long go for 3 wks see if its better also maybe
take a pain pill or maybe some baclofen before you get it changed. Also since
youve just had it done your body is just getting use to a foreign object in a
different place and everyones different and some peoples body might have a
harder time excepting it.

[QUAD-L] medical question

2012-04-04 Thread Regina Fuller
Hi Y'all,
Okay broke my neck back in July 99 had my c5 bone replaced with a bit of hip
bone. Just went to a Pain Management Dr. that found my L1 2 are going bad
from sitting since our bodies r not made to sit for as long as we do.  They
found arthritis in both spots too. (bones are breaking down) so the phantom
pain (pins n needles) are getting in tolerable (sometimes). So the Dr. has
tried me on neourtin but didnt really help then tried cybalta but it helped but
side effects werent worth it now he tried me on lyrica but omg it makes me
neauseous, dizzy n makes me pass out. He told me if the lyrica doesnt work
their gonna go into my back DONT want that.
Now to question:
Have any of y'all tried anything that I havent or your Dr has tried on you that
I can suggest to my Dr?
I tolerate quit abit of pain but it can be intolerable sometimes. Just thought
I could see if any of y'all might know of anything.
Thank y'all,
Gina

I have a wound next to my tailbone that just will not fill in. I just had my
protein checked and even though I’ve increased it in my diet, it is still lower
than it was when it was low. So now I have low protein, low blood count, and
low testosterone. I take a max dose of testosterone pumps and it’s barely
raising. My body is just not adsorbing this stuff, natural or in extra
supplements. Yet another doc appointment to try and figure it out. Greg

Hello!

I'm Sue - I'm an OT at a children's rehab hospital.  I have a question for you
all about an issue that has arisen with one of my patients.

This young person is a high paraplegic and is currently unable to reach his
anus to do bowel disimpaction.  He could do this before, but he had spinal
fusion surgery a while back and now his trunk doesn't bend and his arms are too
short to reach this area.

Any ideas about how he could do this independently?  It's really the last
barrier to him being able to live independently.

Thanks!

Re: [QUAD-L] Help! Suprapubic Cath keeps plugging

2009-07-28 Thread Regina Fuller
Whether its a supra pubic or not sounds like you might need to irrigate and
flush out the sediment and mucus, but also might want to get some antibiotics.
You can flush with water and vinegar and do it till it comes clean You should
be irrigating whenever you start getting to much junk in the tube, but at least
couple times a week.. Or you might have some infection thats why the stediment
and mucus is clogging it.

Hey Dana congrats on 35 yrs. I'm only at 10yrs July 31. I, too, have been
pretty healthy.( I'm a c6-7 quad. I can't stay still for long plus I do get in
a manual as often as possible mainly for excercise and to keep my weight down.
I went from 205 to 125 now holding at 130. I've broken my right leg 3 times (
shoot almost can't keep count) LOL Mainly from trying things, but if you don't
try, how will you know if you can, right.) For those of you who don't know me.
By the way I'm about to be a grandma, my daughter is 7 mos and its a girl
(woohoo) I'm so excited.

Oh Dana by the way What I'm worried the most about the medicare/medicaid is
they (government)want to stop in-home care.
One thing I have heard is The Governor of Texas is really looking into the
healthcare, like he did the stimulus thing. He didn't take all the money only
enough to help the unemployment and welfare n few other things. What I don't
understand with the Healthcare is with its hard enough with getting things with
medicare/ medicaid I hope and pray they don't screw it up worse.

Re: [QUAD-L] 2 much bachoflen

2009-07-28 Thread Regina Fuller
One thing you need to do is before you even upped your baclofen was to find out
why your getting the sweats n spasms, usually alot of times taking more
medicine hides whats really wrong.(the sweats n spasms or A.D. is usually our
body telling us something is wrong) I took myself off (slowly) but 60mg of
baclofen from 160mg the only reason I needed so much at the time was cause I
broke my leg. One thing about baclofen is it lowers your blood pressure and you
need to remember also its hard on the digestive system and liver. It will make
you very sleepy because its a type of relaxer. You need to talk w/ your doctor
and see if there's something wrong w/ your back you might have done something
to it and not realized it or maybe the way your laying in bed or could be your
bed, but just taking more medicine is not always a good idea, your just masking
the problem. Maybe try something else becoz thats alot of baclofen and sounds
like causing more problems.

Hopefully you don't mean 320 mg of Baclofen a day.   10mg twice a day was about
all I could take without falling asleep every time I sat still.  My waking
spasms have now settled down after 42 years of this crap.   Sleeping/lying
spasms still bother me but the med-head bothers me too much to kill them with
drugs.  Just experiment to find the right balance for you.  No Dr. can guess

You'll notice too that near holidays more people are emotional, also everyone
gets depressed its normal and to let a good cry out is healthy, it can let the
stress out or frustration out or anything. Talking to someone whether it be a

than do get medication, but beware if the depression isnt chemical alot of
times the pills could make it worse the side effects could be worse than the

Most quads don't seem to be able to control a lot of emotions that use to be
controlled by hormones from the many glands that no longer function as
designed, pituitary, hypothalmus, thyroid, even adrenal glands are sending
mixed messages at best.
The whole fight or flight thing is a joke. Unfortunately, these same hormones
are often what direct many other body functions and features. With that said,
there is no hard fast rule about how much glandular function yiou have.

None of the time do I know what I am talking about, but I ask myself if I would
trade that tear for a pill.
Like a recurrent dream which repeats until we get it, the tear marks an issue
to understand, accept and move on if it is time, otherwise it is condemned to
repeat.
Loosing this is what scares me about being on medication.
What do I know though, I still lack the sense to get out of the rain when it
just feels good.
The weather man may not be right but they do seem happy, so I listen.

Subject: [QUAD-L] feeling down

John,
I must confess that I cry every time I watch Miracle on 34th St, but I'm not
normally depressed.  I have been dealing with a slight amount of depression
over the last couple of weeks, but yesterday it finally broke.

I don't know what changed my attitude, but it did change for the better.  I
think it's just because I began reading once again and am attempting to put my
frustrations to the side for a while.  There's nothing I can do about them
anyway, so why fret.

It seems like when I begin to feel depressed that I immediately get sexually
frustrated.  I am flabbergasted as to why this occurs, but it is nice to get
out of the funk without the need of pharmaceuticals.

I understand people need them sometimes, some don't take this as an
anti-medication diatribe.  I just simply know the way I feel and if I get to
the point where I'm not respond in a timely manner, I'll go see my
psychologist.  I hope everyone will do the same for their own mental health.

Merry Christmas,
Quadius
