well, i do very little posting here but enjoy the discussions and tribulations that we all encounter. we talk about how long someone's been injured etc. well, i'm 41+ years but just learned that a friend in Indiana that I've known for over thirty years has been injured for 51 years.he's working everyday and is really a great friend and is just dealing day to day with all of this goofy stuff that we are all somehow attracted to. thanks for listening tom + From: Larry Willis lwillis82...@msn.com To: quad-list@eskimo.com Sent: Sunday, September 9, 2012 6:33 PM Subject: Fwd: [QUAD-L] 46 years post SCI Glenn, you better keep truckin' cause I am rapidly catching up with you! I have great respect for all of you who have made it over the 35 year mark. I doubt very much that I will make it to 35 years as that would make me 86 years old, but who knows I still have lots of energy and I'm usually in my chair 13-14 hours a day and sometimes more. I usually go to bed just because my caregiver comes about 9:00 PM and leaves about 9:45 PM. I am very grateful to have her so he even though I would like to go to bed about 11:00 PM it is not realistic. My mom lived to 91 after suffering a major stroke when she was 77, so who can tell what will happen. I will be 22 years in October and sometimes it seems to have gone by very quickly and sometimes not so quickly, but each year definitely is going faster. Thank goodness for technology, cannot imagine what it would be like 75 years ago! Joan From: Thomas E. Well, Joan, I imagine if we had been injured 75 years ago, most of us would have lasted only a couple of weeks. It is amazing and astounding to think how medicine and technology have advanced since then. Things as simple as catheters and antibiotics didn't exist. For better or worse, we quads are truly products of the modern age. Re: [QUAD-L] 46 years post SCI
Tom, It's great to have a friend who is also a quad that you can tat to who REALLY understands what your talking about through trills tribulation's. I'm 39 years post and have lost about 5 to 7 Quad friends from all kinds of complications. A lot of times on the Q-list I get so, so VERY angry. Think I do that because I have no Quad Friends to talk to anymore. And I've been going through a lot if pain and I had to stop driving about 1 year ago. But I am extremely lucky. October 3rd Pete, my husband (but not legally) will be celebrating 30 years together and he has taken EXCELLENT care of me 24/7/365 for over 27 years, he cooks, cleans, shops, dish's, laundry, take's care of all my needs and NOW has to drive me wherever I need to go. We have our own apartment too. Basically, I'm doing less ( because my limitations are increasing with each year) so he has to do more and more and more. Pete is just now feeling stressed, he's 62 I'm 57 and it's getting so much harder for us. I wish Pete had someone to talk to as well regarding care taking. I'm crying as I'm typing this because I'm exhausted from dealing with my Quad life … no it's not a life I'm just existing. I'm only able to be up in my chair 7 to 8 hours. I'm just tired, very tired of it all. Bobbie Sent from my iPad On Sep 9, 2012, at 7:46 PM, Thomas E.
