Anxiety is common with quads. I also have a lot of trouble with arthritis in many joints. Often it is the source of AD for me. I'll be 40 years post in September. I hope that you do better than I have in tolerating it. I use Valium for anxiety and ibuprofen to oxycontin for the arthritis pain. While I don't feel much of the pain my body does. Explaining it to doctors gets old. RE: [QUAD-L] My big 40th Quad-living anniversary soon.
I call my youngest granddaughter my insurance policy, because I want to see her become a snotty teenager LOL. She is five and well on her way with the quick answers. She was asked to help pick up toys after just arriving at day care and said that she didn’t make a mess, so why should she clean it up? Miss Tiffany patiently explained that we all work together etc. etc. Et cetera. The five year old then states “sucks to be you” she apologized profusely after her time out, and then proceeded to tell her older brothers and sisters (4) that was not the thing to do! RE: [QUAD-L] My big 40th Quad-living anniversary soon.
We had some extremely stressing problems the end of last summer and I for the first time had some anxiety attacks, but did not realize what they were. Talk to my Dr. Who also gave me Xanax and it got me over the hump and able to deal better with the situation. I took them for about six weeks, and haven’t needed them since. Sometimes we all need a little help. RE: [QUAD-L] My big 40th Quad-living anniversary soon.
Congratulations David What level are you? I am also lucky and have few medical issues and so far none that are SCI related exclusively. I had arthritis before I broke my neck at age 51, but it really hasn’t spread much more. My left shoulder is bone on bone and it sometimes flares up, but I have been able to control it with over the counter pills. Not surprisingly at almost 76 I have osteoporosis, but with Fosamax we have held it at a relatively low level. I am lucky enough to have an outstanding general practitioner and works with me to keep prescription medications at a very low level. Staying busy and interested in the outside activities available helps to keep my optimism up. Keep on trucking, good for you. Anxiety doesn't have a specific cause. It is a feeling of uneasiness, fear, panic, difficulty breathing. You feel like you are going to explode. It is irrational and some say it feels like a heart attack. I have had two panic attacks in my life and I honestly thought I was dying. I do not wish to have a third. I don't have a clue what caused them.
