I personally hate the binders, but I do need a back brace that also acts like a
binder. It's even less comfortable and a real pain to get around my colostomy.
The binder is a necessary evil. It slows spinal degeneration and helps posture,
breathing and digestion. I don't know how true it is about it holding organs in
a better position. I do like to readjust mine a couple times a day if I can get
the chance. Most days,  I can't. Best wishes, John s.

Re: [QUAD-L] Belly binder

2015-07-14 Thread Quadius
I've been using abdominal binders for 20 years now. They aren't that
difficult to put on it you know how to do it or have the help. Because if
you're doing it by yourself it is difficult.

As for me, it keeps my posture straight which helps me prevent the shoulder
injuries whenever I'm not in proper position. It also aids in my breathing,
blood pressure, and appearance. I don't use it for the bowels anymore. I
got more out of abdominal massage therapy when I was doing my bowel
regimen. Now I have a colostomy, so that doesn't apply.

I used an abdominal binder with a suprapubic for about 17 years and had no
difficulty with it whatsoever. I have boys worn my abdominal binder about
an inch or two above where the suprapubic goes in. I did have problems with
my suprapubic, but that was because of bladder atrophy.

My abdominal binder woes are pretty complicated now. I have an urostomy and
a colostomy, which requires a special type of abdominal binder. Whenever I
wear the top binder without the lower one to support my belly protrudes a
little too much down there and causes difficulty with the way first.

I have ordered a new abdominal binder, but right now I'm using one which
was designed for a urostomy and I cut a hole in the other side. It works,
but it's not the greatest.

I do have a slight quad gut, but if I take the abdominal binders off it's
much more pronounced in my spine curves a lot more. That's why it's
important to where the abdominal binders for many people. You can
definitely tell the difference between someone who wears them all the time
and people who do not. At least that's my opinion. I'm sure there are some
people who are able to maintain posture without abdominal binders.

Hopefully that helps a little.

A binder is supposed to help with breathing, posture, digestion, and
elimination because it lines your innards up more like they are supposed to be.
And of course, makes you look a tad more presentable.
It's a lot of trouble to put on and off, though. I already go through hell
trying to get dressed. Don't need more.

[QUAD-L] belly binders

I don't know anyone who likes wearing a binder or support bracket, but when
they are worn, bodies are supported better. The diaphragm is supported too,
thus helping the blood pressure from zero'ing. Fitting a binder, is like
buying a woman's bra, lol

I like the external ones with shoulder straps, but not too tight as you
don't need any pressure spots.
Shoulder and waist alignment is normally improved. Try it everyday or every
other day. If you are lucky to be working with a PT or OT, let them know
what you are doing and be prepared to accept some advise on its proper
positioning.

Corsets and properly fitted binders can do wonders in containing those

If anyone should bump into Warrior on the road tonight, she's not
infected... its merely her green hat, green sweater, green dress, and green
wheelchair.
Please yield and give her the right of way.
You'll be happier the next morning and so will she.
Happy St. Patrick's Day Warrior!

Corsets and properly fitted binders can do wonders in containing those money
pouches. But better yet, they can do positive things in aligning the spine
and support the back, while sitting in a chair.
The operative phrase remains, properly fitted.

Thanks for giving us hope, Dana :-)
I will see a physical therapist on the 26th to start figuring out an
exercise regimine I can do and might stick with without damaging my rotator
cuffs. The diet thing is tough, but something I am getting better at as I
get older. I want to start incorporating more of this "raw food diet"
stuff. I can't do the whole vegan thing, but those raw food cook books have
some great ideas.

I get sick of looking at my gut, too! Today though, I looked with my handy
little mirror while I was in bed- not so bad! Oh, but are we not different
people in bed ;-) Just remember that when your mojo takes a hit, you stud!

Hi Jessica,

I eat a lot of the South Beach foods, but not as a diet but just my
lifestyle. The food is nutritious and healthy when eaten in moderation.

it's also a very healthy way to eat -- basically, after the 2 weeks of phase 1
which allows no carbs, sugars or alcohol, it concentrates on whole grains, lots
of veggies, little or no sugar, and lots of snacks to keep the metabolism up. i
lost about 10 lbs. unfortunately, i stumbled during the holidays and haven't
hopped back on the diet train. i'll be doing that real soon -- i'm getting sick

That Quad Belly, could be your money bag... or the result of sugars, flours
and lack of movement at
the waist. Portion control, a sugar free diet and mild physical therapy
might help towards the belly
issue. Its a discipline. A very tough discipline.

If you lean forward over your knees each morning for about 5 minutes, the quad
gut starts to shrink.
Where did you get a mojo and how did your gutt have any effect on it. Good
luck.

Re: [QUAD-L] belly

2007-03-12 Thread DAANOO
You just have to eat a very low-fat diet a good portion of fruits and
vegetables and minimal portions on rare occasions of something like ice cream
or
cake. I stick with Buffalo, Turkey, fish and not much bread or noodles and if
you do eat whole grains. I like tomatoes soup and my mom makes me chicken
noodle or rice mostly with whole grains and 99% fat-free broth. I don't need
much cheese and I always get 2% at the fat free just does not taste the same.
I owe patiently by low-fat lean cuisine dinners that are very easy and low
in fat and really tasty. I always eat a salad every night with low-fat
dressing with vegetables. A good snack is microwave weight control cinnamon
oatmeal or whole grain cereal with skim milk. I love frozen baby spinach. I
find
that really helps as my belly is very minimal and it has gone down in the
last couple months when I have been stricter about what I eat. My main
problem
is my aid for supper coming way too late at night. I also drink strawberry
Slim fast for morning and afternoon meal. I really need to get a new person
with a earlier schedule. It seemed like it is possible to mostly lose your
belly as I have several lines. I did not have one when I was injured but that
was 32 years ago.

I don't know if there's a difference between men and women and this problem.
Men are larger and they want more food possibly.

Dan, actually that is 99-44/100% correct. Back in 1996 while at the
Paralympics in Atlanta, I met several quads at the games in the best shape of
their
lives. C5/6 and C7, these quads were flat and hard. They also worked the
Permobil Booth at several exhibitions and signed pictures of themselves to
those who attended. Yes, the flat and hard belly is a rare event.

I am going to the library today to get You On A Diet. Watched the tv show & the
results were good. It is written by Dr Oz ( the diet doc on Oprah). It is
mainly
for belly fat.
