Hamish,
Not all Zetecs had that carbon canister, so anyone who doesn't has this need
not necessarily worry.

My guess is that you should be OK pressure wise as long as it's not
massively high, as the fuel pressure rail will set the correct pressure and
the return should handle the excess.

[Quantum Owners] QMOPS on Saturday

2011-05-31 Thread Steve Kodz
Having just spoken to Eddie, he is not currently ready for a QMOPS meeting
down at his workshop on Saturday, so the alternative is a meeting down at
the barn in Dorset. If we have enough interest, we will meet at the barn to
catalogue and box up metal parts from 003, ready to be taken away for shot
blasting and electroplating.

If you are interesting in this please contact me asap, st...@h4-turbo.co.uk.
If we don't have enough interest I will cancel this meet and we will put
extra effort into the August meeting.

[Quantum Owners] Xtreme Headlight

2011-06-01 Thread Steve Kodz
Feel free to laugh and point, but can someone please tell me how to open up
the Xtreme headlight, so I can change the bulb?

I've removed the allen head bold from the top of the case, then tried
pulling, prising and twisting the front part of the headlight to open the
casing. There are holes in the bottom, but they appear to be just drain
holes, so I'm completely stumped :(

[Quantum Owners] QOC Website

2011-06-11 Thread Steve Kodz
I've just been taking a critical look at the QOC website and I feel we need
more photos of the cars, so I thought, how about adding a gallery?

I personally have enough photos of my own to do this, but rather that seeing
the same cars all the time, I would like some new and interesting pictures
to add. Therefore, if you have an interesting photo of a Quantum that you
have taken I would like to post it on the club website.

I know some people like to obscure their numberplate when posting pictures
onto the internet, so if that is the case just let me know when you send the
image and I'll make the necessary edits, if you're not comfortable doing it
yourself. Additionally I may need to make edits or crops to the image, but
I'll try to keep that to a minimum.

Please send you image(s), the larger the better, directly to my email
address, st...@h4-turbo.co.uk, rather than to this group and I can start
work on a gallery of cars. Make sure to send your full name, so I can
credit the photo to you, plus any other useful information I can add. If I
get enough submissions I'll create a gallery for each model.

As an aside, the club's web team are always interested in feedback about the
site, or information to add, so please contact the team,
webmas...@quantumowners.co.uk.

Re: [Quantum Owners] Guaranteed value

2011-06-23 Thread Steve Kodz
This is in progress. Your committee are working together with the owners of
Quantum Sports Cars and Quantum Kit Cars, together with Footman James to get
agreed value insurance premiums, as was mentioned at the AGM.

Keep an eye for news in QM and on the website as and when it becomes
available. Having been privy to some of the conversations it is not that
straight forward to implement, but the committee are working to make it as
easy as they can.

Re: [Quantum Owners] Re: Guaranteed value

2011-06-23 Thread Steve Kodz
This is the chicken and egg - without agreed replacement value insurance,
the car's value will decrease, which isn't helped by the ebay market value.
If the club can help to put more value on the cars and be very specific
about the value of an individual car the prices can hopefully stabilise and
rise.

[Quantum Owners] Saloon TCAs

2011-06-29 Thread Steve Kodz
How do I tell if I have the Mk3 or Mk4 Escort TCAs fitted to my Saloon? I
think I need to replace the inner TCA bushes before getting the alignment
done, but most places only list inner poly bushes for the Mk3 escort, so if
I have Mk4 TCAs would I need to source rubber ones?

I've already poly bushes the ARB and outer TCA, plus the rear arms, which
made a uge difference to the handling, but it's still a little sloppy and
destroyed the front tyres very quickly. I hoping that poly bushing the rest
and having the alignment properly set up will save me going through the next
pair of fronts quicker that I can wear the rears out on the Xtreme.

Re: [Quantum Owners] Engine Mounts for lowering Pinto engine.

2011-07-05 Thread Steve Kodz
Dan,
I don't know that I can help, but which Pinto engine are you installing?
ie, what capacity and carb or fuel injection? If you are fitting a fuel
injection engine you will struggle to get the engine low enough to fit the
inlet manifold under the bonnet. Also be where that the Pinto sump sits
about 50mm below the chassis and can be damaged, so you may need to shorten
that too.

Re: [Quantum Owners] Breakdown Cover

2011-07-22 Thread Steve Kodz
I've found that the FJ recovery works well - they won't necessarily try to
fix the vehicle, as I think it's a recovery service, but that may not always
be the case, as the drivers usually come from local garages and have always
been helpful - one time we did troubleshoot the issue, which we put a
temporary fix on the car, allowing me to drive the short distance home, with
the recovery truck following me.

Also, don't forget that the FJ recovery is European wide :)

Well, a usual another great day. A big thanks to the Heatons for all they
do to arrange this. There as a very good turn out, but everyone who wanted
to got their 3 runs in, and I think mostly only the 1 damp run, which was
fun! It's a real shame that we have to wait 2 year for the next one, as the
museum is closing for a refurbishment soon, so no event next year :( Does
anyone know a similar venue we could use instead?

No horror stories that I've heard of, but big crashes, yes;

I've heard about quite a few Quantums that have been in big accidents and
the passengers usually walked away, as the cars stand up well to big
impacts, sometimes even police in attendance are surprised and comment that
the crash might have been fatal in the original donor car.

Elliot,
I would suggest a phone call to Eddie Ruskin at Quantum Kits Cars would be
very helpful as he should be able to assist with the information you are

I'm not aware of any H4 owners going through IVA, but other members have put

Re: [Quantum Owners] Pinto - getting it to run cooler in an Xtreme

2011-10-11 Thread Steve Kodz
If it has got worse over time it is likely to be either a rad (and possibly
engine system in general) full of crud, as Bob Craig's suggestion, or like
my Saloon rad and losing the cooling fins due to age.

If it used to be OK definitely worth looking at those 2 areas.

I don't own a 2+2, but my Saloon required 195/45/15 tyre to avoid rubbing,

[Quantum Owners] Searching for Q2-245

2011-11-14 Thread Steve Kodz
I'm hoping someone on hear may be able to help me trace the current owner of
Q2-245. Within some spares donated to the QMOPS project I have found mounts
for the panhard rod that should have been fitted to the car as a safety
upgrade. I have already contacted the last known club member owning this
car, who was helpful, but couldn't locate any contact details for the new
owner.

If you own the car, or know who does/might please contact me off list.

Re: [Quantum Owners] Shudder when braking

2011-11-21 Thread Steve Kodz
Stuart,

As Jim said it could be warped discs, but when do you get the judder? If
it's only after some frequent heavy braking, such as track day action, or
dashes between roundabouts, then it might just be the pads over heating,
especially if you has standard after market pads.

Or, if you've had the disks off recently, they might not be sitting 100%
flat against the hubs.

Re: [Quantum Owners] Quantum Coupe - CV Joint Problem

2011-12-22 Thread Steve Kodz
Can you give the group any more information about the failures, as I've
never heard of it being an issue with the Saloon and never had a problem in
the time I've owned one (about 9 years now).

Could it be a worn part in the gearbox or hub that is causing the problem?

Steve

If we can get Pam onto the group and into the club we should be able to

Re: [Quantum Owners] Xtreme on the track

2012-01-19 Thread Steve Kodz
Chris,
Where did the clutch cable snap? Mine went a couple of weeks ago about 20cm
from the pedal. Having looked into why I think it's a combination of the
routing putting a bit of strain on through the bulkhead and possibly
catching on a sharp vertical edge internal to the pedal box. I've addressed
both, but wondering if this might be a common problem with the Xtreme?

Changing the cable was easy, once the steering wheel was removed.

Re: [Quantum Owners] Xtreme on the track

2012-01-19 Thread Steve Kodz
Yes, I have rerouted between the exhaust for cylinders 2 & 3, but I have put
the cable in a heat reflective sleeve, as I thought there would be problems
otherwise.

I also put a bit of titan seal on the sharp edge in the pedal box area, in
case that was catching. Hopefully it'll last longer than 25k miles this
time.

Re: [Quantum Owners] Saloon front dampersKen,

2012-01-21 Thread Steve Kodz
Jim is correct that your Saloon will be Mk1 Fiesta based dampers and
springs, as it's older than mu Saloon, which is in the fifties, iirc. There
are a bunch of washers and bushed that might need replacing, so I'd
recommend contacting Eddie Ruskin at Quantum Kit Cars, since I believe he
has sourced the required parts, which are very hard to get hold of.

The lower suspension parts are Mk3/4 Escort, in case you are think about
changing bushes too.

I believe Eddie is OK, but do nothing until we get a definate. I believe he

copy of the Saloon build manual on the club website, as this kit was

Re: [Quantum Owners] 3 times stronger?

2012-03-22 Thread Steve Kodz
I can't specifically back up the 3 times stronger figure, but does this
help?

www.h4-turbo.co.uk/Quantum/Saloon/Pics/Strong%20Stuff.jpg

There are plenty of stories about big accidents in Quantums, all of those
I've heard resulted in a better outcome compared to tin cans, however this
might not be the car if 2 grp cars had an accident.

[Quantum Owners] Stoneleigh 2012

2012-05-07 Thread Steve Kodz
A big thank you to all the members who turned up to support the club today.
The big news from the AGM is that there have been a few changes on the
committee. Andy Heatons started the AGM by asking the club members to vote in
a new club secretary to fill the vacant role, allowing minutes to be taken.
Faye Jeffs was duly voted into this role.

The remainder if the committee where happy to remain in their existing roles,
and where all voted back in. Mike Balance will be joining Russell Wilcox and
myself looking after the website, and the big news is that Andy Heaton has
stepped into a vice-chair role, with myself being voted in to chair.

More updates to follow on the club website later thus week.

Steve

Re: [Quantum Owners] Converting a 2+2 into rear wheel drive

2012-06-09 Thread Steve Kodz
Keith,
Sounds like an interesting project - I know a certain Mr. Ward would be
hugely excited if this had a V8 in the front too!

I remember hearing about a Saloon that was 4wd using Subaru Justy running
gear and I think Darren Siepka was converting a 2+2 to either rwd or 4wd.

Aside from those cars, it is worth talking to Eddie Ruskin at Quantum Kit
Cars/Dynamic Mouldings, as he will be able to give plenty of advise too.

I would also suggest sending an email to Jan Haines and ask in the next QM,
edi...@quantumowners.co.uk as you will reach more Owners.

Keep us informed with progress, as it is great to hear about interesting
projects.

Re: [Quantum Owners] Re: Converting a 2+2 into rear wheel drive

2012-06-09 Thread Steve Kodz
Michael,
Owning both fwd and rwd drive Quantums I would definitely prefer all my Qs
to be rwd, as it's a better driving experience. If the H4 was easy to
convert to rwd I would be doing that instead of my current fwd project.

There is something to be said for having the front wheels steer and the
rears power. (Plus rwd is more fun on a track.)

corners. This did give a harsh ride. It would be posible to replace the
springs for softer one though. I would suggest that for a good
comfort/handling compromise 195/50/15 would be the best size tyre to run.

The offset is standard Mk3 Fiesta, ET35.

Steve

Keith,
If you fancy meeting a few members, there is a group of us touring Yorkshire
w/b 17th June, and we would welcome yourself or any other member to join us
for a day out. The details are on the club website, as at my contact
details.

If you would like to meet local members, you could suggest a time/date and
place and work with Steven Perry to contact some local members. I know it
is difficult to get members together, but as club chairman I will do what I
can to help.

Re: [Quantum Owners] Re: Insurance time

2012-06-12 Thread Steve Kodz
Interesting to hear about all the FJ insurance niggles on price and I'm sure
Andy Heaton is reading and taking note. Those at the AGM will know that
Andy has been trying to improve the service and quotes for the club scheme
and is considering a possible change of supplier, if they don't improve.

In defence of the FJ price, I have yet to hear about a bad experience when
the insurance has actually been used, ie making a claim or breakdown
recovery. I've never needed to make a claim myself, but know those that
have usually accepted a very good offer and received the money quickly.
While that doesn't necessarily justify such a high price, you need to
consider whether it is worth paying a bit more for a high level of service?
In the end it boils down to how much you value your time, etc. That's not
to say that the other companies mentioned wouldn't provide the same high
level of service.

I can comment on the breakdown recovery service, having use it in Ireland
and in the UK. The service has always been acceptable at a minimum and
never given me additional problems.

Keep the comments rolling in as we will talk about the issue you raise on
Saturday at our next committee meeting.

Steve

Re: [Quantum Owners] Quantum Kit Cars ( The End )

2012-06-26 Thread Steve Kodz
On behalf of the committee I would like to thank Eddie for the hard work he
has put into the Quantum brand in the 14 years I've been associated with the
club and look forward to his continued support.

I personally believe Eddie is doing the right thing by putting his family
first and it is unfortunate that we find so much useful equipment and stock
in jeopardy. Your committee is working hard behind the scenes to see if
there is any way we can assist and protect these vital assets, but we
currently do not have enough information to put forward any plans.

There are a couple of areas where members could offer their assistance.

Storage - ideally we would look to keep the spares together in one location,
but the most difficult parts to accommodate are the moulds, which are heavy
and take a lot of space. However, the moulds do not necessarily need to be
kept in a single location, so any storage available, ideally for free, or
very little cost, could save the moulds. Please contact me directly if you
feel you may be able to help.

Time - speaking to Eddie, he needs assistance in completing a stock check,
so all the assets can be identified. If any member feels they have the time
available, please get in contact with me, so I can coordinate directly with
Eddie.

As I said, it is too early to have plans in place, but we don't have long to
act. The committee will develop some ideas and then communicate directly to
all members in the coming weeks.

If anyone has concerns, worries or ideas please contact be directly.

Regards,
Steve - QOC Chairman

I would like to be the first to thank Eddie for all his support and
enthusiasm for the Quantum marque over many many year and look forward to
his continued support. I wish Eddie all the best with his Dynamic Mouldings

I managed to have a chat with Mark Burley this morning, who is currently

Re: [Quantum Owners] Engine Cold in the Morning

2012-09-30 Thread Steve Kodz
Chris,
Welcome to Quantum ownership, you've come to the right place to answer your
questions.

The other Chris was referring to the accelerator pedal. That's taught me a
new trick too, but I've never driven an autochoke car from cold. If this
works you are probably on an autochoke, if not look for a know around the
steering wheel cowel that you can pull out - you can probably pull it out
70-100mm. Then try starting the car from cold. If it starts well, but runs
fast you are definitely on a manual choke. Once the car is started you can
push the choke in a bit until the revs settle around 1,000rpm, possibly
slightly more. Just remember that you have the choke out and once the
engine is fully warm push it fully in, or you will use more petrol that you
need.

Steve

Re: [Quantum Owners] H4 door glass

2012-10-05 Thread Steve Kodz
Jase,
The glass carriers are from the Mk3 Fiesta and I'm not sure if these differ
between the 3 and 5 door versions. They are fixed at either end mainly to
provide a stop height for the glass, but they also can make the glass locate
slightly more solidly when up.

These were supplied in the kit, but should be easy to find in a scrap yard,
if they have Mk3 Fiestas.

Sorry I can help with photos as I don't expect to see my Quantums for at
least another week :(

Re: [Quantum Owners] Who has info on 1.0 eco boost engine

2013-01-01 Thread Steve Kodz
Hans,
I think you will find the ECU controlling the engine also controls or links
into other systems within a modern car, so you would need to transfer a lot
of other systems and sensors to retain the existing ECU. The far easier
option would be fitting an after market ECU. There are plenty of options
out there depending on your budget.

Sounds like an interesting project though.
