That clause does seem to vary with insurers so you have to check to be sure.

Interestingly on my latest car insurance renewal they have updated the driving
other cars not owned or hired clause so that it now includes the line

Providing the other car is already insured on a different policy

Not sure if this is an industry change or just our insurer.

Will try getting a quote to see what they say for short term insurance as per
Jim's suggestion.

  Hi Jim,
I did offer it to him but he has bought another car in the meantime. Have
mailed the second highest bidder as well just in case they were interested.

If I thought an MOT would inflate the value I would do the work but by the
time I insure it to get it to the MOT station (or hire trailers etc) I doubt I
would recoup significantly more money. The other option is to break the car
depending on what the interest in bits may be.

Some 14? years ago (crikey time flies) I wanted to do a similar thing (MOT many
miles away as a way of moving car) so I phoned the local constabulary - very
helpful lady said well stricly speaking it's legal, but you aren't meant to be
taking the , and if pulled something else will probably be found. So as
Jim says possibly not worth the risk.

I’ve found most insurers will insure an extra car for a week or 2 for a very
reasonable amount, £20 to £30.
Ideal for selling an old one, or taking one that’s off the road for an MOT.

Never been quite sure how legal the driving to an MOT at the other end of the
country is, i think it’s more of a loophole.
I’m not sure I’d want to risk trying it.
Anybody know of somebody who has been stopped while doing this ?

Re: [Quantum Owners] Re: Quantum H4 for sale

2015-05-21 Thread ludditeal
Hi Jim,
I did offer it to him but he has bought another car in the meantime. Have
mailed the second highest bidder as well just in case they were interested.

If I thought an MOT would inflate the value I would do the work but by the
time I insure it to get it to the MOT station (or hire trailers etc) I
doubt I would recoup significantly more money. The other option is to
break the car depending on what the interest in bits may be.

Regards
Allan

For a Quantum without an MOT i think it got to a reasonable price.
Why not just sell it to the highest bidder, you can still do that even
though the original reserve wasn’t reached.

Sadly it didn't sell as my reserve expectations were too high, something
which I have over the past week or so come to accept. Before I relist it
 anybody interested at £800 ovno.

Contact me for further details or if interested.

 Steve,
I am a QOC member but don't have login details for the QOC site to add an
advert. Are you able to provide some credentials? I assume you can work me
out from the registration number M711VRA.

 Thanks

Sadly the time has come to end my ownership of a Quantum H4 which we
 have had since 1998 :(

I have listed the car on E-bay at this link

If you have any questions then either ask here or via the e-bay advert.
The car is in the village of Heather in Leicestershire which is J22 M1 or
J12 M43 if you want to view it.

 Thanks
 Allan
