What's with releasing 7.4 with a known bug! Ridiculous. I was just about
to order a Squeezebox Radio but thought I'd check here first.

Also seriously annoyed I can't use 7.4 with my existing Duet and

[SlimDevices: Radio] Possible to set a macros to numbered buttons?

2009-10-16 Thread furtive

Is it possible to create a macro and save it as a favourite to one of
the numbered buttons?

What I want to be able to do is press one of the buttons and get the
radio to play the Ocean sound effect with sleep set to 30 minutes
automatically rather than having to trawl through all the menus to set
it up every night

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] How do I get the Radio to connect to mysb.com?

2009-10-16 Thread 0xdeadbeef

I had a connection issue today as well. I temporarily connected to my
local SqueezeBox server (to install the custom and daytime clock
applets) and then tried to connect back to MySqueezebox.com - which
failed no matter what I tried.
In the info screen it even showed the IP of MySqueezebox.com and still
I couldn't connect. Switching off/on by pressing the power button
shortly didn't work either, I think I even tried to power off completely
with no success.
A little later when I deinstalled the day time clock applet and the
Radio restarted itself, the connection worked again. I don't think that
the problem was caused by the applet, but maybe by the applet
installation process.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Improve default Now Playing layout

2009-10-16 Thread 0xdeadbeef

Apart from the bugs that currently plague the Radio, my biggest issue
with it is that I can barely read anything on the display at night
without my glasses apart from the clock screen saver. The now playing
display has too small title/album/artist info, a completely unreadable
time and wastes precious space of the (a little too) small display.

I created two mockups (middle and right) to show what I would imagine
to look the now playing display like. Excuse the primitive design, but
I think they show the idea.

The basic concept:
1) move the playing bar to the bottom
2) move the picture to the left to get usable space on the right
3) Display large time and date info on the right side.
4) Use a larger font and scrolling for title/album/artist info

The 2nd Mockup only differs in having only one scrolling line for
title/album/artist info. Indeed this would be my preferred solution as
this works great for me on my squeezebox classic.

As a side note, while my mockups also leave a border of unused pixels
(as I'm lazy), I don't see any reason to do so on the Radio as there is
already a black frame on the display. IMHO display is too small to waste
any pixels.

One last mockup to show an idea regarding programmed alarms.
This would mean that today it's Monday and there are active alarms for
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, but not for Saturday and Sunday.

I'm not quite sure if I'd like this design myself, but I think the
concept has some potential. At least it packs a little more information
in about the same space than the display of the weekday plus the alarm
clock. Also there's some place for improvement, e.g. by using different
symbols/colors/block sizes for different alarm settings. So could e.g.
see that alarm 1 is programmed for weekdays and alarm 2 is programmed
for the weekend. Again, I was too lazy to work this out ;)

If you're using Squeezebox Server, you can do that with my KidsPlay
plugin; I just published an updated version supporting Radio last night.
See the URL below. If you connect directly to MySqueezebox.com, then I
think you're out of luck for now. I hope to write an applet for KidsPlay
to make it work on MySB but have no timeframe for that yet.

My SleepFade plugin also works with Radio if you want the sound to fade
out over those ~30 minutes (same MySB limitation). :-)

Quite obviously. Also note that the now playing screen on all the

Well, with it's mono setup and the built in RTC, the Radio is clearly
aimed to be (also) used as a bedside radio.

There may be people who are able to read the time in the current now
playing display, but I would assume there are not too many customers
who have the eyesight of an eagle if they're sleepy and puffy.

Anyway, of course I'd be happy if there were multiple designs to choose
from and to modify. Yet, the default design should be somewhat usable
for the planned use case.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Maybe I'm Crazy...

2009-10-16 Thread mmca22gr

But I though that with the SBR I would be able to specifiy what the menu
might be. I have gone to settings-Player, but do not have the option
for Menus as I do for my Boom etc.

Is there a way to set the dim level?

On a side note, I would like to congratulate SB engineers, developers
and testers for their hard work. You are almost there. I have all the
versions from the SlimP3 through various versions of SB2 SB3, duet and
Boom and with each time it slowly get mores Wife Appreciation Factor
(WAF).

The slim was NEVER used. She could not get the concept of the
heirarchical menu structure.
SB2 SB3 were easier to read but still had the same stupid menu
problem.
The Duet was almost a step backwards as it was so buggy.
The Boom was a revelation and she actually used it (It looks like a
radio, why does it not have FM?) It worked, especially when I could set
favourites to each preset etc.
Then with the SB Radio you changed the whole preset/favourite thing!

With the new SB Radio I set #2 as BBC Radio2 and #4 as BBC Radio4 with
some other sounds/stations on the other presets. Today I come home and
#2 is 'Waves' and #4 is BBC Radio2 etc.
Lets say that she was not impressed!

WAF now down a notch or two, but at least we are generally winning her
over. I'm still sure that her happiness factor would increase as I went
from Squeezeboxen-DAB Radio-FM Tuner-AM Radio-Person standing in the
room singing the song!

At present the only menu customization for the SB Radio is specifying
what options appear on the home menu. This is not set in the SBS web ui,
but on the Radio itself via Settings Home menu. This is exactly the
same as the other SqueezeOS-based devices, the SB Controller and the

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Improve default Now Playing layout

2009-10-16 Thread Keymaster

New FW finally got album art to go full screen in now playing (but it's
scaled a touch too big; I'm sure they'll fix that soon enough). I'm
from the the more artwork, the better school. To that end, I would
say that the perfect NP screen for me would be full screen art with all
borders and info being hidden until an action is taken. Just like
Windows hide taskbar

I know it's probably not everyone's cup of tea, but I think that would
rule...:)

Yeah, sure. Who would want to see the time on an alarm clock if you can
 see a cover instead?

I use it as an alarm clock and am -4.00 in each eye...empathy here...

I just like having the art go fullscreen on the Now Playing screen
during the day is all...and the more the better :)...

Keep in mind that you can set the Now Playing screensaver to be any
of the available clocks, not necessarily album art anyhow (although I
would agree that the alarm time should be displayed, not just the fact
that it's set)

Three cheers for anyone who manages to get all that info into a lil'
LCD screen :)

I'm hoping the new firmware will increase the actual screen size by two
inches. Now that would be impressive! :D

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Improve default Now Playing layout

2009-10-16 Thread MeSue

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the two in your first post, but agree with aubuti that
the progress bar is fine as it is now (except I would include the
elapsed/total time numbers on left and right).

I installed 7.4.1 today and saw the new NP screen like in JJZolx post
above. I'm all for bigger artwork, but HATE HATE HATE the chopped off
top and bottoms, especially when it results in a chopped off head.

By the way, have you checked out Erland's custom clock screensaver?
This is what I am using for now on the Radio, because I wanted to have
the time readable from a distance.
