Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] My mini review of the Squeezebox Radio
Back to reviewing the Radio - I love it. The first experience wasn't good, it wouldn't connect to the network on the wired socket ready for it but a bit of fiddling showed the socked wasn't properly wired. I take back all the things I called Logitech and the Radio. With a properly wired socket the installation was, and has subsequently been, easy. The display works well, if the viewing angle is a touch restricted sometimes, and the menus are pretty logical. After initial cursing the text/number entry system using the scroll wheel is quite effective. Being rather critical for a moment the sound quality isn't Hifi at all; the bass is boomy, there's absolutely no clear detail in the high frequencies at all, just a fizzy mash of noise, but that said the total sound is warm and enjoyable, there's no background noise, and it's perfectly good if you're not expecting too much - my wife is currently dancing round the bathroom to the Jackson 5! For speech radio it's ideal, voices coming through full and clear. It produces a decent volume and doesn't distort if turned up to max. It cost 170 delivered to the door from amazon.de and as such is pretty good value, we'll be ordering a second one any time now. Well done Logitech. -- hellesangel Two Squeezebox 3, firmware 127 Squeezeslave-0.9-65-alsa on same PC as server Squeezecenter 7.3.3 - 27044, running under openSUSE11.1 hellesangel's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5658 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=70788 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Can you use your own Backgrounds, Yes you can.
Customise Controller is intended to work for all device not just the controller and should have been renamed. I definately changed it so I suspect what has happened is that the old description strings have been reused. (Edit: looking at it some of the string have been updated but not the title...) It does check for the correct screensize of the image and should show them on the settings page next to any image you give it telling you which types of player will be able to use the image. Note that to get the images onto the player/controller you need to have them attached to the SBS not mysqueezebox.com and then go to the settings, screen, wallpaper page. So what is intended to happen: - install SBS on your computer - go to the settings, advanced, customise controller page - add links to your new wallpapers (should work just adding a link to images on this page into the URL box) and press apply - if the image is read correctly it will show up on the page and will have an indication next to which player it will work with - then connect your player to the server (by browining into my music to verify that it is connected to SBS) - go to the settings, screen, wallpaper page and the additional wallpapers should appear in the list you can select from -- Triode Triode's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=70940 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

It checks the size of the wallpaper and only allows the correct sized images to be available onto each player. It only happens when the device is on My early hardware beta running firmware 7.5.0 r7863 (and I should note Erland I both have very early betas; the circuitry changed enough on newer units that the plastic case shape had to change!) always hisses slightly, whether on or off, about as loud as Erland notes. This seems independent of the Line In gain setting. It is much, much better than the hiss on a couple Tivoli Model One radios I tried. The Model One, despite all the praise it's garnered over the years, has has a hiss that's audible from 1-2 meters, and is noticeable even when Model One is playing music! I think this is likely to be fixed in software, at least hissing when off (and maybe that's why Erland I see different behavior, maybe he's running Radio firmware that fixes the off hissing); if Radio isn't playing anything, including Line In, it should be easy for the firmware to turn off the amp. IIRC, there was a similar enhancement to the firmware for Boom after Boom was publicly released. I know of at least on Radio performance enhancement that hasn't been rolled out yet specifically because some folks like Erland I still have the older hardware. It could well be that the best hiss fix needs newer hardware, and therefore won't be rolled out for another month or two (?), when all Radio early access testers have production level hardware. -- peterw http://www.tux.org/~peterw/ Free plugins: 'AllQuiet' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/AllQuiet.html) 'Auto Dim/AutoDisplay' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/AutoDisplay.html) 'BlankSaver' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/BlankSaver.html) 'ContextMenu' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/ContextMenu.html) 'FuzzyTime' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/FuzzyTime.html) 'KidsPlay' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/KidsPlay.html) 'KitchenTimer' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/KitchenTimer.html) 'PlayLog' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/PlayLog.html) 'PowerCenter/BottleRocket' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/PowerCenter.html) 'SaverSwitcher' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SaverSwitcher.html) 'SettingsManager' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SettingsManager.html) 'SleepFade' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SleepFade.html) 'StatusFirst' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/StatusFirst.html) 'SyncOptions' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SyncOptions.html) 'VolumeLock' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/VolumeLock.html) peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=70788 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

The Radio alarm is proven to WORK even if there is no internet or server connectivity. There is even a local alarm sound that will function if the selected playback media is unavailable. It sounds like the person I was responding to was alarmed that having incorrect timezone settings on the PC he was running the server software on caused his alarm to mis-fire. Yes, there is a local clock and it would appear that this individual wants the local clock to run with no outside interference. To do this you would have to sever clocking functions between the radio and the SB server, or at a minimum you would need some kind of radio pref that lets you give the local clock on the client device a higher priority for the alarm. You would also need the means to locally program the clock so it can ignore the network time that is on the server or the internet NTP that it would normally use to adjust its time. Not sure I follow you here.
