Thanks Pippin. Your ap is on my iPhone Dock. Especially since I'm
down to one working remote for three players. The dogs just seem to
love the size and texture of the SB remote.

Thanks Tony. Dad doesn't get any presets, unless there's a NASCAR I
don't know of and it's close enough to the toaster to interfere with his
breakfast PB&J on toast.

This just keeps the two of them doing their own thing without
interference. I think my mind is made up and for $150 it really can't
be better. Over the last few years I bought them each iPods and I
believe they are yet unused and possibly Li-battery-dead.

Darn, should I grab the RustOleum and get to my TP? I guess that why
my right channel interconnects always have more fidelity.

Hmm, Wait! Is that why some ICs have switched from white for left
channel to black? A white SB Radio would sound worse than a black which
is worse than a red?!? What about those old red LPs?

Yes! Perfect example. You can even program a slideshow for your

Oh yeah, and since the SB Radio had 6 pre-sets (3 for Dad and 3 for
Mom?), after the initial set-up (which you should do), all they have to
do is touch a preset and it will turn on. Then just touch the power
button to shut-off. Really, couldn't be easier. If there is ever a
problem, just pull the plug and plug back in for a hard re-boot (no
settings are lost).

My only complaint with the unit is a bug with the back-up alarm.

Great gift. I bought 3 for gifts (and 3 for myself!).

You can, though mysqueezebox.com, remotely add/delete app's and set up

I would think so. If the mother in law didn't need some other stuff
more, the Radio would be her Christmas present.

I don't think so. If you remove 'local library' from the picture, and
all that entails (tagging, tagging, more tagging, fixing tags, etc) it
gets pretty simple for 'net radio' type things. MySB has a very nice
selection of radio and radiolike (slacker, etc) type.

>
> OOH -- can I remotely configure and fix her SBRadio?

I guess with portforwards on the router, you could ssh in...

But I don't think there is much you could fix that a reboot or smacking
the router wouldn't fix. (or in my case at work, rebooting the cable
modem... the router didn't fix it..)

[SlimDevices: Radio] Good Christmas gift for Mom?

2009-12-12 Thread kphinney

Mom and Dad are only as technologically savvy as my ability to visit.
They have no always-on computer, no MP3, FLAC, ALAC, or WAV files, and
absolutely no FM radio reception (NNY).

For my Dad's birthday Mom bought him a new Sony Bravia and BluRay combo
which includes Slacker internet radio. I'm more familiar with Pandora,
but was able to set Mom up with the two available classical music
channels Slacker offers.

The problems start when Mom wants classical and Dad wants HDTV.

Can I set up a SB Radio for Mom in the kitchen using my laptop and walk
away after Christmas expecting her to be able to use it for Pandora,
Slacker, and SqueezeNetwork without too many tech support calls?

They have an adequate ISP and g-wireless.

(As a gauge of their computer acumen: Dad has a laptop and can read his
news and email, but I'd never expect to get an email back from him. Mom
has a netbook, doesn't read her email, tries to do her taxes on it, but
cannot for the life of her figure out how to reinstall her printer and
waits until I dirve the 440 miles to fix it.
My own savvy include a full-time MacPro server with 9000+ ALAC files,
iPeng on my iPhone, two SB3s and one Transporter.)

Am I so comfortable with the SD/Logitech devices that I'm over
estimating my Mom's ability?

OOH -- can I remotely configure and fix her SBRadio?

I had the same idea ... SB Radio with line-out via headset output. Is it
possible to use a plugin like the boom-lineout-plugin to switch the
headphone-out to a line-out?

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Stream from the Squeezebox radio to the Squeezebox receiver

2009-12-12 Thread paulbt

Hi Appeland

Thanks very much for getting back to me.

I don't actually have any Squeezebox products yet so am quite new to
how all this works - so don't worry at all about correcting me!

Am I right in thinking I can have an NAS drive attached to my router
and then use a Squeezebox receiver connected to my HiFi to play the
music stored on the network drive?

How would I set an alarm on the receiver?

Thanks very much indeed,

Paul

I had to adjust the sync times as well with the radio - to everything

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Stream from the Squeezebox radio to the Squeezebox receiver

2009-12-12 Thread appeland

Hello,
the way you are asking is not possible, no.
To correct you (sorry) - everything streams from the Squeezebox
server.
You can also set alarms for the receiver on it's own, no need to get
the radio involved.
Regards,
Andi

[SlimDevices: Radio] Stream from the Squeezebox radio to the Squeezebox receiver

2009-12-12 Thread paulbt

Hi

I'm looking and buying a squeezebox radio and have a question...

Is it possible to stream from the Squeezebox radio to the Squeezebox
receiver?

I would like to be able to set an alarm on the squeezebox radio that
would automatically stream to the squeezebox radio connected to my
hifi?

Thanks very much,

Paul
