Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio problems connecting to network/server
toby, my setup is just like yours: I use WiFi, WPA2, SSID is hidden, router handles DHCP (no fixed IP's). I'm in California. 1. When you turn off Radio are you doing a soft off (standby) which is a quick ON/OFF button press? Or are you doing a hard off (actually turns off Radio) which is a press & hold ON/OFF button press (screen actually says GOODBYE)? A: Usually a soft off. But sometimes hard. My wife primarily uses the radio, so things happen variously. 2. When you say Radio can't fine SBS or MySB after radio has been off, what happens if you select My Music or Internet Radio from the Home menu? Does it offer SBS or MySB then? If yes, does it then connect? 3. Does your Radio disconnect while playing? Or you only have this issue from a Radio = Off state? A: for questions 3 and 4. Sometimes the radio loses wireless connection. As verified in the diagnostics. Repeated connection attempts and it eventually it connects. Sometimes it asks me for the wireless password again, I re-enter it and it connects. It has really great signal strength, and the 3 other wireless clients run fine. I'm using Tomato loaded on a WRT54GL. Had the same problem with a Netgear router I had until 2 weeks ago. Sometimes the wireless comes up and I get a can't find mysqueezbox.com notice. Couple on/off cycles and it finds it. 4. Have you tried letting Radio stream for a 24 hour period to see if it loses connection to your network (or SBS or MySB)? A: Never run it that long, but have never had dropouts unless we run the microwave oven, which is a couple feet away from it. I think the thing has a lousy algorithm at startup. I wish I could force it to WPA2 personal with AES, and set a fixed IP and specify the default gateway and dns. Then I'd at least eliminate those as possible problems. But my playstation, directv DVR, Roku and 4 pc's never have any trouble, so... -- vintage veloce vintage veloce's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=33790 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73095 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

I went to my local store to see if they at least had a display model too see - nothing there, either. It's unfortunate as there's no way to audition this unit without actually buying it first. Hard Off is truly off, requiring a full boot when turned back on (only by the ON button, or unplugging it and plugging it back in). Standby Off is pretty much the same as any other CE device that can be turned back ON with a remote. It needs to be in some state of ON to receive the command from the remote. Obviously Standby would be required for any Alarm function as well, hard Off would not sound the Alarm as the OS is not running. -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73134 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

[SlimDevices: Radio] Buttons to Power On and some other questions?
I like this and it has worked flawlessly so far. However, a couple of items lack intuition. It looks like only the power on buttons and the pre-set buttons will start the radio from a stopped/power off state. However, lets assume someone else is already sleeping and you want to check the alarm settings at the radio itself. Shouldn't just pushing the little alarm icon on the front bring up the alarm settings? Now, the only way to check the alarm is a two button push (power on; then press alarm icon) -- which may make music play depending on your "power on resume settings". Should not the alarm icon button always present the alarm settings? Even if the power button was previously pushed off? This way it can be checked safely and without starting music if someone is sleeping -- regardelss of the "power on resume settings". Just food for thought. Which by the way brings up some confusion. As I see it, the power button is really a stop and/or a pause button -- depending on your "power on resume settings" in squeeze box server. I think the power button should be labelled stop/pause or something like that. The only way to really kill the power is to pull the plug. So it is not a power button. That label is confusing. Finally, some settings are on squeezebox server -- but not on the radio settings when at the radio. "Fade in" alarm is not on the radio itself. Also, on alarm volume, you can't see what number it is set on the radio (only on squeezebox server). It should always be consistent between the two in my opinion. By the way, I love the "fade in" alarm. Much better than waking up to jarring volume levels. Other than those minor quibbles, a very nice piece of equipment. -- eap eap's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=32788 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73134 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio problems connecting to network/server
I don't experience Radio connection issues to my network or SBS or MySB (I'm in the US so that might be why MySB isn't an issue for me). Are you both on the EU server for MySB? I unplug my Radio, move it to other parts of the house, plug it back in, it connects to my network without issue, and then connects to SBS or MySB just fine (whichever it was on last) without me having to touch it. It even automatically starts playing whatever I was streaming before I unplugged it. I use WiFi, WPA2, SSID is hidden, router handles DHCP (no fixed IP's) What I have not done is turn off Radio for an extended period of time so that might make a difference as well. Few questions for you: 1. When you turn off Radio are you doing a soft off (standby) which is a quick ON/OFF button press? Or are you doing a hard off (actually turns off Radio) which is a press & hold ON/OFF button press (screen actually says GOODBYE)? 4. Have you tried letting Radio stream for a 24 hour period to see if it loses connection to your network (or SBS or MySB)? Dunno, just trying think of any possible reasons why your Radio's seem so unstable. :( -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73095 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Installing Applets is a two step process and you may be missing Step 2. Step 1: navigate to that Applet, select it, choose option "Install" Step 2: navigate back to the main Applet Installer (where all Applets are listed), scroll to the last item "Install/Remove 1/0" Radio should acknowledge it is installing Applets and reboot. -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=72669 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] VU meter and general comments
Thanks for the tip! I've installed the addon, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to configure it? Unlike some other addons there seems to be no config page. My point, tho, is it would be nice if this kind of configurability was standard, like it is with the Boom etc. I've just had my Radio fall off the (wireless) network. Not even a ping. Ended up power-cycling to get it back. Dunno what that was about, but it could be anything as I've had my MacBook fall off the network in the last few days. I need to look more into an issue with crossfade: basically it doesn't seem to work at all. Instead of fading, I usually get a "glitch" in the music about 5 seconds from the end of a track. I will do more research and file a bug if I can reliably reproduce the problem. Do you use crossfade on your Radio? Unfortunately there seems to be a bug in Custom Clock Helper so it isn't shown when you create a new style. You will probably need to edit the customclockhelper.prefs file manually to include it. Save the style, shutdown SBS, edit the prefs file and add the item1position, startup SBS and now it should be shown in the Custom Clock Helper user interface. The font style it self isn't possible to change in the current version, there is only one font available on the Radio so any other fonts have to be downloaded or bundled with the applet. I had some plan to allow downloading of custom fonts before I decided to stop all third party development. Chunkywizard;499582 Wrote: > > Also item2 and 3 have a position. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Clock Kerning/Centering
Hi erland, thanks (again). I have custom clock helper installed and am trying to work out how to use it. It looks like item1 is meant for the time and it will always be centred in height on the screen, correct? The margin will allow movement to the right. How do you change the size/font of the text? I see no settings for that. Also item2 and 3 have a position. Is this a height on the screen (y dimension)? Combined with a margin (x dimension) I guess this allows you to put the text anyway. On the standard radio clock you have the time centred (but a smaller size) and then at the bottom you have day date and month. As I see it this is 3 more items to place one of which needs to be a different size font. On the custom clock applet you only have 3 items max. So can I really recreate the standard clock (but with the nicer number spacing) with the custom clock applet? Your help is appreciated. If I get to the bottom of this then obviously I will share what I create. Cheers CW p.s.
