[SlimDevices: Radio] Battery pack ordered!

2010-09-15 Thread Rikk

Right now I checked on Logitech page and the battery was given as
available (Italy), so I ordered it. Hope it was a real availability...

Anyone with fresh news about battery delivery?

[SlimDevices: Radio] Alarm is not using playlist

2010-09-15 Thread doubleugk

I've configured the daily alarm to use a certain playlist, but this
doesn't work. Instead I hear a default sound. If I check the alarm
settings, the desired playlist is not selected anymore. I've selected
it again, but on the next day, it was not played :-(
My server and my Wlan are shutting down every night and waking up every
day 25 minutes before the alarm goes off. I assume that the SBR is
getting confused by this. I've tested a alarm later during the day,
after this behavior in the morning, and it works fine using a specific
playlist.
Any suggestions?

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Using radio headphone socket and speaker

2010-09-15 Thread Soulkeeper

Does it help to just turn the volume down on the sub (or turning it off,
but keeping the jack plug in)?

If so, that may mean you've got a 'phase problem'
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subwoofer#Phase_control). That's an
inherent downside to not having an 'active filter'
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_filter) built into the unit.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Using radio headphone socket and speaker

2010-09-15 Thread MartinG

Thanks Soulkeeper;

I will try some tweaking, but the sound quality is noticeably reduced
in the SBR's internal speaker, not the sub itself.

So for example; if I turn the Sub fully-off, but have it plugged into
the headphone-jack, and select, Both on, in the Headphone switch
app, the sound quality of the music coming only out of the SBR's
internal speaker, is low quality. If I then pull the Sub-jack out of
the SBR, the sound automatically improves, this is an improvement only
in the SBR's internal speaker.

Can tweaking the Sub's Phase (0 or 180), Low Pass (80-160Hz), or
Volume, effect the quality of the SBR's internal speaker?

Thanks

[SlimDevices: Radio] Disappointed

2010-09-15 Thread wonder boy

As per my sig I am a fanboy. I am however initially disappointed with
the performance of the radio.

I don't need an alarm to wake me up but I do like to be woken by the
radio if that makes sense.(wife gets up an hour before me).

For more than a year I have had the boom in the bedroom streaming BBC
R5 via mysb.com at 6:55am without fault or fail. I don't really want a
24/s SBS server to do this for the moment.

I need the boom for another room so bought a radio, looks so nice so I
set up my alarm for this morning.

Like an excited child I was awake a few minutes before and then watched
with glee as 6:55 flicked over and the dulcet tones of the presenter
faded in. After about 30 secs but certainly less than a minute the
voice faded to be replaced by some jaunty/jangly music I guesse was the
default fall back alarm.

Obviously read loads of posts about hats and shoes and the fact that
the alarm is just a function of this mono wireless player, but
nevertheless I am disappointed.

What I don't understand is why did things work perfectly with my boom
but when I ask the radio to do the same it fails at a first try.

Style over substance? Logitech need to sort this, I would not have
parted with £100 had I known this was such an issue.

Sounds like something is up with the jack sensor. Maybe the speaker and
jack output shares the same DSP, and the jack sensor disables the bass
boost in the DSP or something.

If that's it, I don't know if it can be overridden in software. Sorry.

The Boom's audio design is described in a 'downloadable PDF'
but I haven't seen anything like that for the Radio. Which is a shame,
as it would make it much easier to make educated guesses about what's
going on. :p

 No, a failing network isn't necessarily the user's fault. I can't see
 that anybody has said that.
The post I quoted names router, the network, WIFI interference, hard
drive, computer running SbS, or music tags as reasons for problems
with the Radio. Indeed none of the major flaws is in any way related to
any of these points. Besides, neither a crappy server side
implementation (MYSB) nor a broken client side implementation is a
failing network.

Also a futile reply, as Sonos doesn't even have a standalone bedside

The radio also stops randomly without backup alarm. Even the euphemistic
release note of the last software update said that the random stopping
was just reduced, not fixed. Indeed this doesn't say much anyway, as
before the last update, the alarm didn't work at all in 9 of 10 cases.

A while ago, out of curiousity, I set my radio to use mysb.com instead
of my PC server.

So far for the last 8 days it has managed to turn on BBC Radio 4 at the
correct alarm time each day with no backup alarm kicking-in.

I'll leave it this way for a few weeks to see if anything odd happens.

However, even on this limited trial it seems that the Radio does indeed
work properly with MYSB.com, provided you have a good internet
connection, a reliable radio station and a solid internal network
(wi-fi in the case of my Radio).

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] So when does the next firmware update come out?

2010-09-15 Thread erland

If you guys want to complain, please complain where someone listen to
what you are saying, this would be either:
1. Logitech support: http://www.logitech.com/support
or
2. The official Logitech forum which Logitech support staff reads:
http://forums.logitech.com

You can complain all you want here too but none that can solve your
problem reads your complains here, Logitech support staff don't monitor
this community forum anymore. They did read this forum earlier but this
is no longer the case, read the sticky thread for more information:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80919

Generally, my feeling is that prioritization within Logitech is largely
based on what people complains about to the official Logitech support
staff. So if they get a lot of complains about something that doesn't
work, they prioritize it for the next delivery. So if you feel that
something doesn't work as advertised, please use one of the above
mentioned channels to make sure they know about it. They are of course
also aware of some problems mentioned here, since some Logitech
developers still reads this forum from time to time, but I'm pretty
sure it will give a lot better effect if you complain using the
official channels.

2010-09-15 Thread 0xdeadbeef

Yeah, yeah, user's fault. Sure.
I have a rock solid 25MBit/s internet connection that has no issues
streaming HD-IPTV video streams. All of my other devices WLAN or not,
work flawlessly, just the radio is not able to work reliably. So yeah,
it must be my setup. For sure my 100% stable internet connection is to
blame that the Radio is so buggy that even switching it off doesn't
work. Very plausible.
And no, there weren't dozens, if not hundreds of bug reports regarding
alarm reliability, all merged or claimed to be either duplicates of
unrelated issues or set to resolved without being fixed. Guess this
great reliability is also the reason for all the overwhelming reviews
on Amazon.

Sorry, but the official forum is a joke. As it the support or the
handling of bug reports in the bugtracker. Let's face it: the folks at
Logitech either don't care that the Radio's software is crap or they
are not willing or able to fix it. It's simply impossible that they
don't know about all the issues.
Besides: if this is just a user forum that Logitech doesn't care about,
why does the Logitech Squeezebox Software Program Manager place all

You mean like this sticky that explicitly tells folks that this is a
peer-to-peer forum with no official logitech support, but for official
logitech stuff, including support issues, they should post at the other
