Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox radio and not awakening pc

2011-01-02 Thread jhak

I try a lot of things and most of it works. I have one problem left.
When I turned on the SB my pc is getting awake and I can play music
from the pc. Then I choose for Mysb.com and I can listen to the radio.
The pc is going to sleep. Everything ok sofar.
If I then choose again for the pc the system won't awake.
The connection between SB and pc is only coming back when I turned on
the pc by hand.
Anyone a idea?

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] EU : must shut down and tur on to listen to radios

2011-01-02 Thread slate

I had the same exact experience on 31/12-2010 when MySB Europe went
down.
When MySB came up in the afternoon my radio was unable to connect until
the BIG switch was pulled.

However, the radio is one I just bought for my sister and I have NOT
made a reserved IP for it in my router as I am just running burnin
until it can be handed over; so that could be it. I will make a
reservation and check next time MySB is down.
Everything else have reserved addresses

FYI my sister lives in Spain; Squeezeboxes are hard to find down there
and way cheaper here. Created an account for her on MySB and it has
been running since 23/12 until 31/12 when MySB died.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox keeps on losing connection to reuter

2011-01-02 Thread toby10

Is your Radio losing connection with router? Or just your server?
When it happens make note of the color of the WiFi icon on the Radio
screen.
Red = not connected to router
Blue = connected to router, not connected to server (SBS or MySB.com)
White = connected to server (SBS or MySB.com)

Also, any chance of IP conflict? Two devices have been assigned the
same IP address?

[SlimDevices: Radio] Sprint Overdrive router

2011-01-02 Thread Cghackshaw

I bought my dad a SB for Xmas and I can't get it to connect to his
sprint overdrive router.
I'm hoping this is a simple solution. The SB finds the router in the
list of available routers, but we only have the option to put in a 10
or 26 character password. His mobile router only requires a 5 digit
password, so once you put in his 5 digit password, it waits for the
remaining 5 or 21 remaining characters before it will do anything.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks and happy new year.

Each device on the network (your router) must have a different IP
address assigned by the router. The router then uses a single IP
address to communicate with your ISP modem and the internet itself. If
two devices on your network have the same IP address you can expect such
issues as devices disconnecting from the router.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Pre-purchase questions

2011-01-02 Thread davenva

The alarm is not reliable. For over a year, it has exhibited various
problems, which change randomly over time, as software updates are
released.

Logitech has not fixed the problem, which stems largely from the poor
design, which implements alarms as a client-server task, requiring
interactions between the radio, Mysqueezebox, and your local server.

Some people claim that it works, which I suspect is related to their
specific server and network setup and characteristics.

A cheap alarm clock, next to the radio has been my solution.

I would not recommend the radio for anyone needing a reliable alarm
clock.

One more echo - the alarm is unreliable, and has been since the radio
came out.

It may work for days at a time, and then let you down.

If you need to wake up on time every day, do not use the radio as an
alarm.

The design of the alarm, relying on a client/server interaction is as
bad a technical design as I have ever seen. Logitech should be
ashamed.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Logitech don't care about us ! Class Action

2011-01-02 Thread davenva

IMHO.

The internet media player part works fine, and is a very clever and
enjoyable device.

The alarm clearly has problems, due entirely to the design, which
relies on networks and servers to provide a simple alarm function.

I think that a lot of the venting here is simply frustration on the
part of those familiar with good software design, who actually respect
the device, but are frustrated knowing how much better the device could
be with a fix to the alarm design. (Having managed software engineers, I
know how crazy poor design can make them!)

The obvious, and I suspect not difficult, fix is to move the full alarm
functionality to the radio itself, so it works even if the network or
server are unavailable. If this were done, the worst case would be the
unavailability of a specific music or radio alarm due to network or
server issues, resulting is a simple alarm tune or tone played from the
radio.

It's an inheritance from the old slim players thats does not have any
internal resources to speak off they are very slim they don't even have
a clock. In the begging there was no mysqueezebox.com either and the
alarm function began it's life as a plugin .

Boom introduced a realtime clock but it' alarm works the same as an SB2
or SB3 except for that it can remember the next alarm.

In theory boom should be worse than radio but it seems that it is more
reliable in practice

After switching back to the pc, try doing something that requires a pc
response, such as going to My Music.

At present you can customize which items appear in the SB's home menu
by going to Settings Home menu. Select the items you want and
deselect those you don't want. In the firmware that goes with SBS 7.6.0
(currently alpha/beta) you can do additional customization, including
re-ordering the items in the home menu.

Make sure you can stream high bitrate stations (320k) on your computer

I think a lot of Asian ISP's do bandwidth shaping which can cause

The easiest way may be this:

1) Find the IP of your Radio.
2) Ping the radio (open CMD in Windows and enter ping 111.222.333.444
(substitute the Radio's IP address for 111.222.333.444) to confirm that
the Radio answers ping calls. There should be four pings and four
replies.
3) Turn the Radio full off, and/or disconnect it from the network.
4) Ping the radio again. If something answers, it's not the radio,
which means that another device is using the same IP.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Sprint Overdrive router

2011-01-02 Thread virgiliomi

The 5 character WEP password is equivalent to a 10 character hexadecimal
key (which is what the Squeezebox wants to use instead of a 5 character
password).

Use this site - http://easycalculation.com/ascii-hex.php - and enter
the password in the text box. Then on your Squeezebox, enter the
*Equivalent Hex Value* (minus the spaces).

Or, if you would prefer to set up a more secure option, I would
recommend switching from WEP to WPA or WPA2 (WPA2 preferred, with AES
encryption if possible). The Squeezebox will then accept the same
password, not a hexadecimal key.

They all let you enter lower case letters as well as upper case,

The Radio lets you enter lower case letters as well as upper case,
numbers and punctuation characters for the wireless password.

Radio probably only allows 0 through F if he's using WEP. I wouldn't
be surprised if the router allows lower case entries but Radio only
allows upper case. In this case, it's not case sensitive.

There is rotate it further untill it begisn again or try the other
direction.

What kind of security is this is it a WEP key .

Maybe you should enter it as hex numbers , i dont think case is
important when notating hex numbers.

Btw WEP is not security anymoore you might aswell turn off security or
change to WPA2.
